Nice surprise to find this small local diner with a twist on breakfast favorites. We enjoyed a smokey shriller with ham, smoked Gouda, carmelized onions and sautéed mushrooms and a bayou skillet with blackened shrimp, peppers, andouille sausage, goat cheese and onions. Will be back! read more

So who knew Dyer had the best BBQ in the area. I had the brisket at Scrambled today and it was Better than any I have had in the area including Chicago! If you get a chance try either the brisket or pull pork sandwich they both are outstanding. You may have to wait but WELL worth the wait. read more

By far the best breakfast place around. Expect a longer wait on the weekends, but well worth it. Service is always pleasant. Food comes out quick and always tastes fresh. They allow substitutes and you can split entrees with no extra charge, which I recommend. Portions are huge, always come home with leftovers. Kind of a tight squeeze for seating, but there's a large waiting area and out door seating. It's a convenient location for St. John and Dyer residents and those traveling from Illinois. Quick update, we were able to eat outside on our last visit. There was construction a few stores down from the restaurant and the waitress apologized more than once. Always heard great things about this diner so my husband and I thought we would try it out. We were excited to finally have a breakfast date without the kids and wow were we disappointed!!! The place was extremely small and cramped,and the food was honestly the worst we have ever had. We both ordered skillets,I ordered the cajun and he ordered i believe it was the bayou. When they came we just looked at eachother in disbelief. We started eating them and they were so burnt you couldn't even tell what the ingredients were! You could tell they did not clean off their grill. My husband ordered his egg over easy and it wasnt even cooked right! His skillet looked like soup it was so gross! Never again will we return. We have gone there before and had great experiences. Today we decided to order take out from them. I went and pick up the order and when I got home, it appeared that the main part of the second entre was missing. I had ordered three eggs over easy with toast bacon and french fries instead of hash browns. The toast was there and the fries were there but no eggs and bacon. So I return to the restaurant for a refund. I was not about to waste even more time waiting for them to remake the order. They informed me that the eggs and bacon were in the order, they had just covered the entire order in a huge pile of french fries. Ok, who the hell wants FF on TOP of their over easy eggs? It was a nasty mess. I again asked for a refund and was told they would comp my next order. At this point I am thinking I probably won't be back so I, again, ask for a refund and the say a vague OK and go on to help other people. A few minutes later they ask if there is anything else they can help me with and I tell them I am waiting for the refund. They say they already did it and I ask for a receipt and they say they don't have one. TERRIBLE customer service. Not even the vaguest apology and NO ATTEMPT AT CLEAR COMMUNICATION at all. My boyfriend's family lives in the area, and are regulars at this diner. I finally got to try it out last weekend after hearing such great things about it. I must say it did NOT disappoint. The service is amazing and the waitstaff is very personable. The place is adorable too, covered in pics of the family... it also super sunny and bright inside. Everyone at my table got omelets and they were HUGE, and delicious. I was in the mood for lunch so I tried their buffalo chicken sandwich. That too was big and I had leftovers. Every thing was great! I think the most simple way to put it is that they're trying too hard with the menu. What I love is a breakfast diner that serves all the basics but make the basics taste and look like gourmet. I went with intentions of getting an infamous Midwestern skillet come to find half their skillets had shrimp in them. No thanks. Plus, as I was looking at the menu, my friend (who introduced me to the place) said, "I used to always get the Boston Skillet, but then I got FOOD POISONING." At that point, if I wasn't in a group of four, I would've left. I skipped getting a skillet and went for the breakfast burrito. My girlfriend ordered a skillet though. The skillet looked good, but was laying on basically what was a bed of grease. My burrito turned into a chorizo scramble type deal because I couldn't eat it how you're supposed to, because it fell apart in my hands instantly. It was also extremely greasy. Our food was so greasy it upset our stomachs for the rest of the day. At one point I was convinced I ate something spoiled. On top of that, the waitress screwed up the billing and charged my friend twice. It was taken care of, but still. The cherry on top of the sundae. I won't return. I hated the coffee (mid to dark roast, and probably 100% robusta), but enjoyed the rest. I had the blueberry pancakes and shared a side of bacon and a homemade cinnamon roll with my husband. The cinnamon roll is huge - a meal on its own- and wins the award or the most cinnamon-y. A lot of places I've been to skimp on the amount for some inexplicable reason. The pancakes were bursting with blueberries and reheated the next morning incredibly well. BIG portions, excellent value - especially as there were leftovers for the next day! Quick and pleasant service too. I heard that everything is made from scratch which boosts this from a 4 star review to 5. I would definitely return. read more

Came here once, wasn't too impressed. Points for creativity, they had some very interesting things on the menu, different from your typical breakfast place. Also extra points for house made hot sauce and ketchup, very tasty. I got a bayou skillet, which came with shrimp, sausage and goat cheese. Greasiest thing I ever ate, and although I usually love goat cheese, I didn't like it in this skillet at all. I would go here again just to try more things on the menu, I'm sure they have to have some good stuff in there. read more

Scrambled is the breakfast place we use to compare all other breakfast places and it always wins! Yes, it's small so you have to get there early if you don't want to wait... but it's worth it if you do. Everything is always cooked to perfection, I love the regular 2egg breakfast. I had the corned beef hash (my favorite) and a cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll wasn't bad. I had order it all to go and I had wished they put the frosting on so I didn't have to, but whatever. It was ok, but the outside ring was a touch dry and stale. The middle was soft and very good. It was def different than any cinn roll I've ever had too. Which isn't necessarily good or bad, just different classification for me all together. The corned beef hash was very disappointing. Normally I like "burnt edges" in chili, BBQ, etc. But it was not so great here. Every piece of meat was a burnt edge, but it was swimming in grease. I didn't (couldn't) after eating in middle of the cinn roll, so I saved it for later. When I opened the container, the bottom was white from solidified greased, nearly an inch thick of it. It was bad enough to make me gag. It's nice to see a diner stay true to homemade, but if homemade isn't good, it's no better than IHOP. I have to say the hostess who took my order over the phone and got my food when I got there was sweet and very friendly. Staff doesn't seem to be a problem. Food quality tho, needs to pick up the pace. Three stars solely based on the middle of the cinnamon roll and the hostess. read more

I loved scrambled! I am a vegetarian and they are so amazing about my food specifications and if I order something that comes with meat, they give it to me to go for my puppies!! The tangled up in blue is my favorite (no bacon) and the hash browns are amazing! These people put things about this place being pricey but you are, in most cases, getting 2 plates of food and all the highest quality and the freshest ingredients. I've been to plenty of overpriced places in lakeview and logan square where it's not even close to the quality and not as much food. read more

If you want a delicious breakfast there's no better place on NW Indiana. Parking is scarce so be prepared. You may have to wait but the food melts in your mouth. This is not a health food restaurant. This is a cute little place where there are little options for eateries of this type. It's small and given its the only place of its type in that area you'll wait for a table. The menus not huge and I think they try too hard to be hip with what they have on there. I ordered an omelette with Swiss and some vegetables with a side of sausage. Coffee wasn't that great. The omelette was big and fluffy but was disappointed the vegetables were not cooked. Just thrown in and I guess I'm used to the veggies being cooked a bit before being tossed it. Eating raw onion isn't tasty. Toast was good as was the potatoes. Sausage wasn't great the flat type vs links. Service was very nice. Overall it was ok but I'd probably drive to other places next time. Too small, too little on menu and just not what I wanted in a breakfast experience. read more
