i've never had model bakery english muffins before so i can't comment if the ones from scratch are comparable or are supposed to emulate them, but their english muffin breakfast sandwiches are really good. almond croissants are equally good, the almond paste filling is my favorite. sadly coffee missed the mark. our latte tasted more like milk than coffee. would absolutely return for food, coffee, not so much. read more

Tried this bakery out after seeing it in OC Restaurant week. They had a breakfast option of $20 for 4 people (consisting of a tropical fruit blend juice, bowl of fresh fruits and 2 each of 4 kinds of mini pastries) or $20 for a 2 person picnic (consisting of 2 strawberry mint lemonades, 2 vanilla cream puffs, 2 chocolate cream puffs and a choice of 2 sandwiches with salad). Both options sounded good so I called to see if I could get both at the same time or if they didn't serve sandwiches until lunch time. The owner informed me that they hadn't anticipated such a huge interest and I could order in advance with my credit card and they'd have it ready for me. Glad I did because when I came to pickup, there were so many people in line. Presentation: the food was packed impeccably--breakfast pastries were in a box inside a brown handle bag along with a large bottle of juice and a decent sized bowl of fruit. For the picnic option, I was given a beverage tray with 2 strawberry mint lemonades and a brown bag with 2 boxes each containing a sandwich and corresponding salad along with a bag of 4 cream puffs. Taste: breakfast was yummy. The fruit was fresh with even amount of cantaloupe, watermelon, strawberries & pineapple. The pastries hit the spot for my family of 2 adults and 2 children. The mini ham & cheese croissants were a favorite but all the other items were enjoyed by everyone. The picnic option was equally delicious. I ordered one of each turkey avocado sandwich and Italian grinder. While both options were tasty, the turkey sandwich was our favorite. The strawberry mint lemonades were refreshing and the cream puffs were light and airy as they should be. We enjoyed the picnic option so much, I ordered another one 2 hours later. Ambiance: the place is nicely decorated with gorgeous pastries and food options on display in glass cases. There are a few tables for people to sit and eat but there are tables and chairs outside near the live stage. Overall, a great dining experience. Food was fresh, delicious and reasonably priced. Service was good--I overheard the manager accommodating the lady ahead of me whose family member had an allergy. I will be come here again to try other items on the menu. read more

First time visiting Fashion Island in a long time and this place was such a pleasant surprise! The gentleman who attended us at the register was so friendly and the other workers were quick and welcoming as well. I could tell they were smiling even with their mask! We got the breakfast sandwich with bacon for $7.95. I thought it was such a great price for the quality and taste! It was the best English muffin I've ever had!! You could tell right away it was homemade, so fluffy on the inside but slightly crispy on the out. And you can't beat the ingredients they use! I know I wrote a review here during their preopening but it's not here now. I do hope they fixed the dirty silverware since they told us it was new and then waited over 10min for utensils since they were stained already. I do like their food and am excited to have them at this location. Nice to have a variety and definitely worth a try. I always default to the chicken salad salad which is crisp and fresh. The strawberry croissant is incredible...their salads on the other hand are incredibly week. For $15 The summer salad was a few slices of apple and pear, sprinkle of feta & sliced almonds. We virtually stumbled upon Scratch Bakery Cafe while walking around Fashion Square. The sandwiches we ordered were made to order and were excellent. The Baked goods available were delicious. Love their new location in Newport Beach at fashion island . My husband and son devoured the chicken melt sandwich and Nutella croissant. I loved the spinach artichoke croissant and the veggie sandwich was good too. Sourdough bread along with all their baked items are made in house from scratch. I usually don't go out of my way to write negative reviews, but this one I had to. I ordered one coffee and one chamomile tea. The coffee came out pretty fast. However, the three young workers at the time forgot about my other order (my tea). I asked what happened to my tea order and they acted like nothing had happened, and no apologies; furthermore, when I finally got my tea, it tasted like water with a small bit of chamomile. They should have used two bags for a lager size............after posting my review, the owner (Ronnie) reached out to me and refunded my purchase. I'm sure if the owner was there when I ordered my tea. I wouldn't had any issues. Still tastes good but I demand justice for the insane breakfast muffin they used to have. Super fluffy English muffins with a thick, high quality sausage patty and cheese/egg. Over the last few months they changed -- the muffins aren't as fluffy, and most egregiously the sausage Pattie's are paper thin now. Price went up too. It still tastes good but the sausage definitely took a few steps down with quality and size, while going up in price. Similar story to ham and cheese croissant--much smaller now for higher price. I get they need to protect margins but they've largely lost my business. I go when I'm at fashion island but will no longer go out of my way to pick up breakfast from there again. I was looking for baked goods and stumbled onto their website online, which had lots of basic stuff I was looking for like carrot cake, brownies and more. However, once I got to the location at fashion Island, I was very disappointed. Most of the items I saw on the website were not available. I didn't even see slots for those items. They did have a lot of desserts, which were IMHO all very small portions at somewhat high prices. There were twenty people in line at 3PM, so service seemed to be moving very slow. We LOVE this place! Everything we have tried here so far has been really good -- the breakfast sandwiches on homemade english muffins are absolutely outstanding, the french toast is our other breakfast favorite, good espresso drinks, grilled cheese & tomato soup, knock-knocks and fresh baguettes - all delicious! The staff is always friendly as well - we have been in about 6 times now (Newport location) and are quickly becoming regulars because it is so good!
