I've been to Scratch Kitchen and Taproom a few times. Their service is consistently good especially if you sit at the bar. The food is kind of a mix of American and southern comfort food. It's a little too rich for me most of the time but the atmosphere is nice and they have lots of outside seating and can accommodate large groups. Street tacos and fried chicken salad are good.

Came here for brunch after going on a hike with my friends. The food hit the spot. I had the kid's French toast because I downed their mini doughnut hole which tasted like zeppoles . I enjoyed every bite! Would definitely return.

Stopped in for lunch - descent meal. There was a variety of options. The salad didn't have a ton of flavor, felt like it was missing something. The service was ok.

I was visiting my friend in Raleigh for the weekend and on my first day, we decided to check out Scratch as the pictures on Yelp look enticing. Which overall, our experience was good although our waiter often disappeared and didn't stop by very often. For food, I ordered the lobster Mac and cheese, which was large and pretty decent. Could've used a smidge more seasoning but I enjoyed my meal overall. It's large enough that it could be split between two people. We also got the biscuits as an appetizer and I would say you can definitely pass on them. They tasted almost like an English muffin which is not my favorite. Now for the drinks, those were horrible and it's been awhile since I've had a really bad drink. My friend ordered the 'honey don't be sour' and I got a different one that was recommended by our waiter as it was popular and on the sweet side. Both were terrible, I mean like wow that's bad. I didn't drink it and just decided to drink water instead. My friend finished hers begrudging. Final rating is a 3.5. I would give Scratch another chance but would skip the cocktails the next time I go.

We were traveling through the area and did a little yelp research on places to eat. This one stood out to me with a unique menu. They have a beautiful inside area that could accommodate many different size parties. They also had a very nice outdoor patio with plenty of tables as well. Joe was our main server, who was very friendly and attentive, but then we also had another lady who brought out our food and that would check on us periodically as well. The menu is very eclectic to serve all pallets. And each dish that we had was a flavor bomb! Very tasty! The overall experience, and the taste of the food, was five stars.

We came out for my birthday dinner (my choice!), and with so many good options around, I ended up going back to Scratch in Apex. It had been a while since our last visit, and this was the perfect excuse. Sunday night, party of five (wife, both boys, and one girlfriend). No wait, no rush, just a nice, easy evening. I went with the pork chop and swapped the collard greens for bacon Brussels sprouts, because after nearly nine years of living here, I still haven't fully acquired the "collard greens appreciation gene." Maybe one day. The portions were very generous, and the three mac 'n' cheese dishes were generous enough that those orderers needed to-go boxes. Meanwhile, the poke bowl and I cleaned our plates. No regrets there, my pork chop was perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. Our server, Indiana, was excellent, friendly, attentive, and happy to answer every question we had. Only downside? The restaurant was a bit warm inside. Not unbearable, just enough that we noticed. But that's a small thing compared to the great food, great service, and overall good vibes. Not our first visit, and definitely not our last... honestly, we should come here more often. Solid comfort food, done right.

So glad we decided to walk in on this establishment. We opted out just to have appetizers and had the firecracker shrimp the crabcakes, the pork belly, the green tomato stacks, and the roasted cauliflower. We finished it all definitely will come back.. Service was fantastic. Real trendy spot in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina.

Went for lunch on a Sunday and it was really busy! The parking was a little difficult, but it could have been because there was an arts fair going on nearby at the same time. I got a spot in the parking lot outside, but my friend had to park several blocks away. The servers were super friendly and patient, considering my friend was late due to parking and I had to wait for her for a while. I really liked my salad, topped with salmon. I love a place with healthy options! My friend tried a bunch of appetizers and enjoyed them. We also enjoyed mocktails! For desert we shared the biggest piece of chocolate cake ever. A very nice ambiance with lots of windows. Also not too loud for conversation. Would definitely be back!

I was in Raleigh and stopped here for brunch on the way to the airport. The place was crowded and we were seated right away. Service was excellent, it was the food that didn't do it for me. The menu stated that everything is made from scratch with care and attention to detail, which set high expectations. Coffee for 2 came in a French Press and was quite good. Both my husband and I ordered the same thing: which is unusual, the Crème Brûlée French Toast. It sounded amazing--fresh local sourdough bread, bourbon blueberry maple syrup, vanilla whipped cream, fresh mint. It's served with potatoes, but we were able to sub fresh fruit When the food arrived at our table less than a minute after ordering, I knew something was off. It definitely didn't taste made-from-scratch. The flavors just didn't come together for me: the sourdough was too sour, and the syrup had an overpowering bourbon flavor with barely any maple coming through. It all just felt out of balance. I left disappointed. The place has a great atmosphere and service, maybe we just picked the wrong dish--but for a spot that prides itself on scratch-made food, it missed the mark.

    Planters that need cleaned out

Not exactly a warm welcome from hostess. Just grabbed menus & showed us to an inside table. We wanted to sit outside, not that she asked us. There were 2 tables available outside. So we asked a passing waiter. He said nothing was available outside. We spoke to another waiter (Dadrian) , who said they could seat us outside. We weren't in a hurry, happy to wait. Dadrian took good care of us & he was helpful & friendly. However, we were never given utensils/napkins. Our food arrived very quickly but we couldn't eat it. He checked on us & realized & asked the hostess with the mostess to bring us utensils. Minutes ticked by. Other waiters/food runners brought food out & policed tables but we couldn't get any of their attention. Don't really work together as a team. It honestly was an extremely long time before we were checked on again & we were still waiting for utensils. By the time we ate...our food was cold! While sitting there unable to eat started looking around. The outside patio is quite dirty & could use a power wash. The planters enclosing the tables need cleaned out of dead plants from last season. I had the special mango chicken w/ fried rice. A bit much combined. Either alone would be good, but too much sauce/flavors combined. Husband's fried chicken sandwich was good, but neither of us enjoyed the coleslaw. Being greeted with the Chex mix was a nice touch Agree with previous comment that if you don't park in their parking lot you need to walk in the street to get to the place. The planters that block off the patio make it impossible to cut thru. A bit dangerous to walk there in the street. We were never checked on by any manger type person.

Spicy Crispy Chicken Biscuit - Sub fries

We came for Saturday brunch and were surprised it wasn't too busy. The place feels a little small, but is cute and had a southern vibe. Drinks were great. I had the mango mimosa, my husband had the Maple Bacon Old Fashioned, and our friend had the Bloody Maria. We all enjoyed them. The food was a bit of a mix. I ordered the spicy crispy chicken biscuit and didn't enjoy it. It wasn't spicy, it was dry and lacked flavor. It really needed a sauce or syrup. My husband got the Chicken Dutch Pancake and thought it was excellent. Our friend liked the Southern Huevos Rancheros Bowl but felt it was overloaded in black-eyed peas and it overpowered the dish. Service was great. The bartender and our waitress were both very kind and helpful. We would definitely come back and try something different next time.

I'm not sure if I went on an off day considering all the rave reviews but my Mac and cheese dish was straight up inedible. It was oily and no flavor whatsoever. I ate a few bites before giving up. Very disappointed and wouldn't go back!

We were in downtown Cary and walked to this restaurant. The location is very nice and walkable. We each got a drink that both were okay; neither were a wow for us. I missed getting a picture but we got the pimento cheese wontons as an appetizer which were good; they weren't exactly what I was expecting on the shape of them and the crunch you get on a normal wonton wasn't there but the flavor was there. We got the Bacon Hoop Cheeseburger to split which was just okay; burgers are one my favorite foods and it just didn't hit that sweet spot of feeling satisfied. I did appreciate that the red onions were pickled though; it was a nice difference to the usual. We also felt rushed like the waiter wanted us to pay and get out as soon as possible so they could get the next group in; if I feel like I am cattle being herded, I am not going to feel like the overall experience was good. However, everything was good enough that I would give Scratch Kitchen another try if we were in the area.

I love Scratch! The food is always amazing and the mocktails are to die for. The service is spectacular and the outdoor seating is pretty.

So I then asked if I could place the order and get all flats , she didn't understand what a flat was so I had to explain that, and she eventually told me she'll let the grill know. I get there to get my order and check my food and low and behold , it's drums in it. So then another server comes and I told her the situation and she said I could get a refund or they could remake the 3 flats that were drums . Then got the manager and ended up telling him just to make it fresh which I waited about ten mins for . I get home and I realize , THERES STILL DRUMS . And they gave me the old wings anyways and just 3 fresh flats which I didn't want my old food back there anyways because I figured that would happen but let's just say this: NO OVER THE PHONE ORDERS AND THEY CANT DO ALL FLATS . They need to better train the server. Update dec. 2,2023 So I came here a second time and this time dine in. Did NOT like the experience. They literally ran out of silverware and my steak got cold waiting for one so I didn't even want it anymore and on top of that, the chimichurri was DISGUSTING. They said there was nothing they can do about there being no silverware and they can't just "pull it out their ass" . Didn't even offer plastic .. Took forever for food and drinks. Never got my water. Or napkins. Ended up having to order nachos only cause it was the quickest thing to order without needing the silverware . A different waiter actually helped get those nachos and faster service to me. Don't believe I'll be going back at this point. First review before the update was a year prior to 2023 review. Haven't been back since .

It would be like renaming the Angus Barn to something like the Beef Shed. I'll start with the two desserts...we couldn't decide between the three desserts they had so we settled on two. Both were freaking amazing. Almost ordered the third to go. The Chocolate tort with Nutella gluten free was creamy and deeply rich in flavor. The Espresso Panna cotta with strawberries was lighter and subtly sweet and perfect. I also couldn't decide between one entry so I got the Vietnamese pork chop and the smoked wings in plum bbq sauce...the pork chop was just okay but everything else that came with it was really good...those vegetables rocked! Now the plum wings...that's unusual and was definitely something that was downright flavorful...I would get them again for sure. My girlfriend is gluten-free and picked this place just for the GF chicken and she was blown away. I tried it and I was blown away. Usually GF food is not good, grainy, and lacking real depth...not this place. This was in all likelihood the best gluten free friend chicken I've ever had and it was half of a freaking chicken! Soooo many fries. We ended up taking half of it home and it made a complete second dinner the next day reheated in the air fryer. Definitely somewhere we will return very soon. The atmosphere is cozy and small and the perfect place for a date night. Also, their GF chicken is better than Beasley's GF chicken...just sayin!!
