We had a pleasant bartender and enjoyed a huge appetizer of smothered fries. In fact, we had ordered an appetizer and a salad to split. However, the appetizer was so big we asked them to cancel the order for the salad. This was a really cute place. I also enjoyed a featured cocktail with Mezcal. Went for the first time March 29 2025 in Cary NC have been seeing this restaurant on Til Tok and decided to check it out since I was in the area. Overall it was okay I personally had my hopes up for the cast iron chicken when I ordered it I felt it was not that great chicken was dry and under seasoned. The brussels sprouts I prefer to be cooked longer and the butternut squash was not seasoned at all to me so sent my dish back. I ended up ordering the Bibimbap dish. Never had fresh spinach in my dish usually cooked but it was better to me then the cast iron chicken and my cousin had the steak with collard greens and Mac and cheese and she enjoyed her meal. The Pricing was fair will I return? I don't think I will if I am in the area again but it wasn't bad the service was friendly. read more

My medium rare burger was no trace of pink or red whatsoever and very dry, and the bacon I asked for was minced bacon like in a blender, weird. my daughters, macaroni and cheese was very good and fries are very good. BBQ egg rolls had the inside consistency of baby food with no flavor. Blech. Service Meh, the crappy bbq egg rolls made it to our table before the water. Slow and confused, would be my assessment. Maybe a pinch of I just smoked a blunt an hour ago. Our server was friendly, though, took care of the egg rolls, so that's a huge plus, although it took 15 minutes to get it to go box. Fun, easy night out vibes here. More casual than anything, and it's walk-in only. Luckily if you get there early enough, even on a weekend, the bar seating is usually up for grabs, and the servers are quite attentive. Had some wine, received good recommendations on different options and went with the crab dip and cauliflower bites to start. I will say the dip was missing something (maybe more of the cream cheese flavor!) so I would skip and definitely recommend the cauliflower bites - great amount of spicy buffalo wing flavor and excellent bleu cheese dipping sauce. Also had the bibimbap which is served in a slightly concerning bowl - maybe rethink - also saw some other dishes to guests served in these bowls that are a little tricky if you plan on using cutlery of any sort... but otherwise was an awesome portion and tasted great. We visited Scratch Kitchen and Taproom last Saturday and had a really good time. We got there at 6:30 and told the wait was an hour plus for a table. It was busy but we were then told we could sit at the bar and have dinner which we did. We opted for appetizers and shared. We got the Brussel Sprouts with pork belly, Loaded Fries with shaved steak, Harvest Salad, and The Sweet n Spicy Cauliflower. All were delicious!! The food came out quick even though they were slammed. Our bartender was attentive and the drinks came just as quick. They have seasonal drink specials and cocktails but I went with the Scratch Old Fashioned. It was made perfectly and hit the spot. The interior is deceiving from the street. The space is larger than I thought and there is a side / back room with additional seating. It was nice inside but it was loud so if you're looking for an intimate dinner spot, this is not it. The leftovers came home and the teenager devoured them the next day. We will definitely revisit again when out in Cary. read more

I come to scratch here and in Apex quite a bit and the last two times have been very lack luster. I order the same thing (chicken finger salad) and it has gotten worse each time. The amount of chicken I got this past time was one whole chicken finger. Previously when I wrote this review I had 3 full chicken fingers on top and in the salad. This one that I just got looked like they made the salad and at the last second grabbed a few pieces of chicken and threw it on there. When you pay that much for a salad you would hope it would fill you up but I was still hungry. The reason I kept it a three start is because the place does have very friendly staff and it's very clean. You can have dogs outside which is great and they bring water for them. Their other chicken sandwiches is what you should order as those are large and have great flavor. Just the past few trips have had very disappointing salads. read more

I gave my review 5 's simply because I had an awesome waitress. If you ever stop in ask for Tamia! We were here celebrating my cousin 29th birthday so we had a party of 18 people and had a wait of about 1 hour which wasn't bad. The hostess worked really hard to get us all seated in the same area so we ended up in 3 booths and 1 table. As stated before we had a waitress named Tamia and I was worried at first because in addition to our tables she also had 3 others. She really is a pro at this waitressing thing because she had a system as to how she serviced us and it was really appreciated. We got our drinks and appetizers really quickly and the portions are so big that I actually didn't order an entree. For the appetizer I had the Scratch fries and as stated the portion size is enough for the whole table. Other appetizers at my table were the Firecracker Shrimp and BBQ Eggrolls. All the appetizers were really flavorful. My daughter got a kids meal with tenders, fries and cucumbers. Entrees for my table included a burger(plain), crispy chicken sandwich, scratch Philly with chicken and steak and the bbq burger. This is a super fun local place with a great vibe! Service was great, folks were knowledgeable of the menu and made great recommendations for our first visit. The brussel sprouts had a lot of extra goodness on them typical of good southern cooking as did the fries. So don't come here if you are Loki g for health food. They did have some salads and poke bowls but that wasn't what we were looking for. The spicy Chicken sandwich is amazing, great crunch, juicy and packet with flavor. The shrimp tacos had the perfect amount of flavor and fillings that all complemented each other. You could taste how fresh and homemade everything was. I'd recommend this place to everyone as they have a huge variety in the menu. We'll definitely be back on our next trip to Raleigh! read more

Came here recently and enjoyed our meal. Scratch had a dedicated parking lot with a few spots open, so we got to park right next to the restaurant. Always a plus! We were seated immediately, and the server did an excellent job throughout the meal of being present without being annoying. I got the country breakfast plate for my meal since we came during brunch hours and I thought it was super tasty (especially the biscuits!). My wife got a burger and really enjoyed it. Add in a decent beer selection and you have a pretty big winner on your hands. Overall, I'd definitely come back here for some Southern food and good vibes! read more

(at least at the time there were offering to-go service) If you order the Firecracker Shrimp as appetizer, you can request that they put the sauce on the side. This place was an ok lunch spot. We tried a few appetizers that were recommended - the crispy rice sushi and shrimp. Both were solid but nothing over the top. For our entrees, we tried the pad Thai and bibimbap bowl. The pad Thai was very "soupy" which was a bit odd to us. The bibimbap sadly lacked flavor as the greens were overwhelming. We stopped by on a Saturday morning. The wait was 20 minutes and the parking lot right in front of the restaurant was FULL. We had to circle a couple of times because there also isn't any parking right on Chatham Street behind the restaurant. We finally decided to park in the church parking lot on the opposite side of Chatham (not sure if that was legal though.... But we drove a long way to get to this restaurant and didn't have a choice). The menu is pretty diversified, some new and creative plates and some old classics. My husband got a salad which he said was really good and had just the right amount of dressing on it and I got a BLT. Now this BLT was not your usual sandwich....it was fried green tomatoes, lettuce and bacon crumbles....it was good but different. The waiter didn't check on us during our meal, I would have liked another drink, but our food did not take long to get out to us and he got the check to us promptly. The restaurant is cute, with a bar area and seating area with tables and booths. My smashburger was definitely overcooked, there's salad menu is very sparse, the salad I was interested in was $16. If I wanted to add chicken that was an additional $6.. $22 for A salad with most likely half a chicken breast? Nope. I've been to Scratch several times now, enjoyed the food very much and really appreciate that they've expanded their menu with many delicious items. This afternoon I tried the Crab cake Benedict which is supposed to be served with eggs over easy with hollandaise sauce on the crab cakes. The key to this dish lies with the eggs being prepared over easy and having an ample amount of hollandaise. I received my Benedict with fried eggs and barely any hollandaise which made the dish extremely dry. I was in a party of 5 and Scratch was packed, as it usually is so I shut up and ate my lunch. Details do matter in dishes being prepared the way the menu says they are prepared. I did bring some vegan friends and they said their vegan burgers were excellent. I don't want to give up on you, Scratch, I like the variety of the bowls, they are great. read more

We came in for lunch today and there was a decent crowd. Since we have had amazing weather here we decided to eat on the patio. Our waitress was super friendly and made sure everything was taken care of! We ordered a kids Mac & Cheese which came out promptly and hot but not scalding. I ordered the Shrimp Po Boy and it was a 10/10! Definitely would come back just for that. My husband ordered a burger medium and it came out well done. But he said it was delicious anyways! My family and my bf went to Scratch for my dad's Father's Day dinner. The place was quaint and I enjoyed the atmosphere and our server was very attentive and super nice. My boyfriend and I came late, and she swooped on over right away and introduced herself and took us through the menu. The food came out fairly quickly in my opinion and everything looked delicious. My boyfriend had the bibimbap and he said it was good, just wished that the portion size was a bit more (but he has a bit appetite). Also, there was a bit of a kick to it too, so beware for those touchy with spices. Salmon was cooked well and the rice complemented it very well. As for the Mac and cheese, it was very dense so come hungry if you want this dish! Overall, was a wonderful dinner and will be coming back here again soon! read more

The chocolate dessert was so rich and amazing! I am not a fan of rhubarb so I didn't eat it but I hear the strawberry/rhubarb dessert was also delicious. The bbq sauce I got on the side was not good, it simply didn't taste like bbq. It was so sweet, there was no tang. I was visiting Raleigh for the weekend and this place was a hit! Definitely would recommend if you're in the area. As the name suggests, everything is made from scratch so substitutions are easy (which I truly appreciate as I'm gluten and dairy free). I ended up getting the Buddha bowl (replaced tofu with grilled chicken) and it was delicious. Our table also got the scratch fries and they were AMAZING. it's a huge platter so would recommend ordering if you have a bigger group. Our server was wonderful and kind. I wasn't a huge fan of scratch kitchen and taproom. I really wanted to like it; I love southern food, but there were many things that weren't great. I ordered the harvest salad with salmon. Mostly, the salad was truly delicious and so creative, but my salmon was raw in about 70% of the filet. I want asked how I wanted my salmon so I figured it would be cooked all the way. I also bit down on a walnut shell in my salad, so glad it didn't chip a tooth! My husband ordered a burger and fries. He enjoyed the burger, but the fries were way over fried. We asked our server if it was possible to cook the salmon a little more and different fries that weren't overcooked. Our server seemed angry and annoyed with us. A manager came over and she was so nice and friendly with us though. We got a new thoroughly-cooked salmon and brussel sprouts instead of fries. The strawberry trifle for dessert was okay. Overall, it wasn't a great experience and I think we would try something different next time in downtown Cary. read more
