One of my favorite classic sushi places in Milwaukee! It's prime location right on the river. Also they have bottomless mimosas on the weekend for $15, and they're never booked for brunch. They are accommodating for large groups with private rooms for free. The sushi is amazing every time. read more

I'd been excited to visit Screaming Tuna, and hate to say it didn't meet my expectations. The inside is pretty nice, we were seated at a table next to the window overlooking downtown and the river, and that was by far the highlight. We visited on a Wednesday night and it was packed. Crowded in a way that was loud and the way the space is set up isn't very intimate. We shred edamame (good), and an eel roll and the Buddha roll with spicy crab. The rolls were just ok, I think overpriced for the quality. There are other great sushi restaurants in Milwaukee, and I had hoped for more from Screaming Tuna. read more

We went as a group on Saturday night (April 2021) and I was so incredibly impressed with the service, food and covid respective response that the restaurant was able to offer. Our server gave great recommendations as many of us had not been there before, you could tell she was trained extensively and I appreciate that so much. Went to eat here for a bachelorette party and our reservation was VERY last minute. The whole experience was over and above my expectation. I had previously been to screaming tuna and didn't have any bad or especially good experiences. It was just another restaurant. After welcomingly accommodating us, various customer service details, great service, and great atmosphere I want to thank Screaming Tuna and their staff for making our celebration extra special. Will choose them as my sushi destination in the future to continue supporting such a caring and detail-oriented establishment. read more

PERFECTION! This is the best restaurant experience I have had in years! The spicy tuna app was absolutely delicious with the most perfect textures, no name veggie, summer breeze, some more rolls and the dessert were all so tasty & fresh! Great views, great aesthetic and shout out to our server, BRANDON, for creating such a happy mood and vibe the entire time. You took such great care of us and seriously made our time feel very special. To top it all off Brandon served us a beautiful tempura ice cream dessert with "Happy Birthday" written on it just because everyday is a birthday! You are an angel thank you haha! I found myself in the Third Ward on a Saturday night without reservations. It was beautiful outside so while the wait for a table on the patio was long, we were able to sit immediately inside. It was perfect as the big doors were open and our table faces the river. Our server was attentive, and the sushi was so delicious! I was with my daughter who knows her way around a Maki roll and she agreed. I look forward to returning. With reservations so I can sit riverside. read more

We came in on a Wednesday night. Not a huge crowd, so we were seated quickly. Our waiter was great, very friendly, and knowledgeable. We had 3 in our group so we opted for the "dinner for 4", which was excellent! The quality, creativity, and amount of rolls were on point. We were also served soup or salad with the meal. I ordered a glass of wine, and it was a very hefty pour. Really great location right off of the water! We were very impressed. read more

Being that Screaming Tuna is a 3.5 minute walk from our front door combined with the fact that it's straight up delicious, it has become our go-to spot for dinner. We've eaten at tables with larger groups or when my parents were in town, but typically Geoff and I sit at the bar (are you noticing a theme? We always sit at the bar). Curtis, Amy and Jodi are some of our favorite bartenders who always have a good wine recommendation and know the menu inside out. They have a wonderful selection of wines by the glass, sake and a rotating list of house made cocktails. As previously mentioned, I brought my parents here when they were in town and my mom (who is Japanese) was very impressed with the quality of the sashimi/raw fish. I've never had an issue with any cut of fish being anything but fresh and delicious, which was a big concern of mine the first time I came for dinner. I mean sushi in Milwaukee?! Well trust me, they do it right. And fresh. Icing on the cake of dinner at Screaming Tuna is that they have Purple Door ice cream! The perfect way to finish your dinner! read more

What a treat to have a wide variety of specialty veggie rolls to pick from. We ordered 4 different rolls that could be vegan and gluten free--each one distinct and beautiful. Definitely will make a reservation next time (You'll need one if you don't want to sit at the bar). read more

First time visit today. Weather was great so we sat outside. View is great of the water the restaurant is very modern and laid out very cool. Our server was super nice. We did appetizers first. We did the crab wontons and the tempura. Both was great. We ordered for different rolls to share. My favorite was the Panko popper. Was great. We got the screamer, WOW. It is so spicy!! But good. We got a pretty big selection and everyone seemed to like them all. I would go back for sure. read more

My first time eating at this sushi restaurant. My friend and I sat in the patio area. We were blessed with wonderful weather and a great view. The food was delicious and fresh. Delicious sushi! I went there a few weeks ago on a Monday (1/2 sushi specials) and even though it was packed we were seated in a timely manner and had great service. I don't post reviews very often, but I'm totally shocked by the low quality of food received. The sushi rice was so bland. In fact everything was bland to the point of tastelessness except jalapeño and onion. Even the passion fruit barely had any flavor! Spicy tuna- what spice? The tuna had literally no flavor and was the texture of a paste. The edamame- mushy on the outside but the beans were undercooked. How is that even possible? And the tamago, my son's favorite, is over cooked and kind of brownish. The icing on the cake is that one item I ordered was not in the bag, so I had to call grub hub for a refund. Although, with the condition and quality of the items I did get, I'm wishing now that I never ordered in the first place. read more

Screaming Tuna was a perfect experience, from the moment we were seated! The view was lovely and our server, Riley was very knowledgeable and helpful. We started with cocktails and raw oysters. They were both fantastic. The sushi for 2 (chef's choice) was the best sushi I've ever had. The different types of fish were all so fresh and just melted in your mouth. Their signature rolls had interesting ingredients and the combo of these ingredients put us in a state of delight. I had a late night sushi craving so my friend recommended this spot. The service was great. I did order the screaming tuna sushi, and I hated it. I'm one who loves spicy, but that roll was just flavorlessly hot for no reason. It's just piled with hot mustard and wasabi. I'm all fairness, I was warned about the heat, but it was just hot for hotness' sake, to the point of discomfort. Had it been spicy with flavor, I would have screamed my praises from the mountains. As a vegetarian, finding GOOD veggie sushi rolls is extremely difficult. But the Veggie Shekhar roll at screaming tuna absolutely blew me away. The combination of the hash, avocado, and the sriracha blends together perfectly and keeps you wanting more! The location is perfect. I recommend trying to go when the weather is nice out because sitting outside next to the riverwalk is the best way to spend a summer day! However, I restrain myself from giving the 5 stars because the service here is painfully slow. I've been here twice already and I've waited almost an hour each time before getting my food! I highly recommend getting a couple drinks while you wait because the food is worth it. read more

I was told Monday's are 1/2 off and thought I'd give it a try for a first date. Though that isn't quite how their specials work, the Monday deals were more than reasonable. I ordered sangria, mango roll, shrimp tempura roll, and edamame. My date ordered an east side old fashion cocktail, shrimp tempura, and sweet potato roll. Everything came in a reasonable amount of time, seemed fresh and tasted decent. Was a little underwhelmed as there weren't any distinct flavors, but a side of eel sauce probably would have helped a bit. The atmosphere is pretty modern and the view (if you're seated by a window) is amazing at night. We were sat almost immediately even though it was packed, but the noise level was obnoxious. This is definitely more casual and social than laid back or intimate... at one point we were literally shouting to hear one another. In any regard, great experience and decent food. read more

This place had one of the best views in Milwaukee. It overlooked the historic part of downtown and the lake. We had the spicy king crab roll, the screaming tuna signature, and a shrimp tempura roll with a side of edamame. The edamame was probably our favorite part.. it was well-seasoned and full of flavor. Out of town visitor who saw the glowing reviews here and great view on the riverfront, but was only impressed with the latter. Waiting area: ergonomically awful seating in weird el-shaped clusters that only have legroom for a single person. Indoors: loud and somewhat sterile. It seemed like an unpleasant environment to dine in. Outside: fantastic view over the river. Restrooms: shared with a bar/club next door, and they were in abysmal shape -- toilet paper all over the floor, but empty rolls in most stalls. Crispy Spicy Tuna appetizer: crispy rice was great, but the minced tuna did not appear to be seasoned. If you got a bite without sauce or a jalapeño slice, utterly flavorless. We did not finish it. I genuinely think a key tuna prep step was missed in the kitchen. Gyoza: solid Tempura appetizer: the vegetables were battered in tempura, but the shrimp were panko fried. Odd. Specialty rolls: we got two that we did not finish. The seaweed in them was inedibly tough and overpowering in taste, like perhaps the sheets of nori they were using were overly large and were rolled over themselves too many times? I've truly never had that experience before while eating maki, so I'm not sure what the cause might be. Nigiri: we ordered some simple nigiri after deciding the chefs were not up to the task of pulling off the more complicated rolls. They were fine, though I have eaten nigiri that were more carefully cut -- had some fatty bits that were a little tough to chew. I'm not likely to visit again. read more

The service at the table was excellent and the adherence to COVID protocols was exemplary. What surprised me (aside from an exceptionally long wait for our main entree rolls to arrive on a Sunday evening) was the lack of flavor. We have heard such great things about this restaurant and did a trust fall in ordering several rolls with descriptions that were *quite* a bit spicier than our usual fare. Thus, pretty shocked at how bland they tasted. Fresh? Yep. Flavorful? I'm afraid not. We're stumped as to how that could have been the case. read more

I was hoping the reviews were accurate, but cmon. Take away the riverfront location and this is mediocre sushi at best. Or rather, one of those 'once upon a' joints that serves a decent designer roll to an undiscerning crowd. But the quality of their sashimi - the true measure of any sushi place - was rather poor. Go for the waterfront vibe and cheerful staff, but there are far better sushi options in MKE (tho not many). read more

This is now my favorite sushi place in Milwaukee. I usually dine at restaurants for the food and service without much consideration for the decor. That being said, this place is really aesthetically pleasing. Lots of dark reds in the woodwork, pink marble floors, and the whole river facing side of the building is floor to ceiling windows affording a great view down a long stretch of the River, with Milwaukee's skyline as a backdrop. Hostess was friendly, Server was attentive and pretty knowledgeable about the menu. I even took his suggestion and ordered a Signature roll. Decided on fried calamari along with the signature roll for appetizers. Both were really fresh and I enjoyed the flavor combos on the roll. Had the screamer, mango, spicy tuna, and dragon roll after the warm up. All the roles tasted fresh, and had great flavor profiles that meshed well together. I made a reservation for 8:00 on Sat and we arrived at 7:45 and grabbed a drink at the bar, at 8:00 we were told our table was ready and were seated promptly. The menu is quite extensive and has some very unique things like the Tuna Pizza, also a lot of cooked entree's which is great since one person in our party is very new to sushi. We got our drinks in a fair amount of time but our server seemed to be a little off, all of our food came out at once instead of the appetizers first and the entrées second. The Kolbe beef appetizer (I am drawing a blank on the name, but it has little crispy rice noodles on it, and is held in a little boston lettuce leaf) was one of the best appetizers I've EVER eaten!!! Any time I'm in Milwaukee I have to come here for the best sushi around! All of the rolls I have tried have been amazing and fresh from the more simple ones such as a spicy salmon roll to the ones I never imagined myself trying and liking (the Kraken- try it!). Most commonly, I find the sushi dinners for a group are of the cheapest and plainest sushi/sashimi/maki. Such was not the case. This was a selection of their most popular items. The Crab Rangoons aren't too bad either. They used to have mussels, which were delicious, but those seem to have disappeared from the menu. Both times I've gone, it's been a weekday just before 5 PM, and my guest and I were usually the only ones there. I don't mind that at all--it makes for a pretty relaxed experience. One of the coolest parts is that they use an iPad service, so you don't have to wait around for staff to come take your order. You can just put in what you want and keep things moving. For an all-you-can-eat setup, it's a pretty sweet system. Save your appetite, because there are plenty of good things to eat. ZX Sushi is definitely worth checking out if you're hungry and want to get your money's worth.
