We had lunch on a Saturday afternoon. This small, quaint bistro / deli was busy but not chaotic. The wait staff greeted us immediately and had us seated within a few minutes . The waiter took our drink order right away and gave us time to review the menu for our food order. I ordered the Italian Beef sandwich and my wife had the pesto turkey. As they have printed on the menu, they are not fast food, be patient and kind. We sat and chatted while we waited for our order. As I stated, they were busy and food was coming out in a timely manner. We got our sandwiches and were impressed from the moment we saw them. The pesto turkey was loaded with thinly sliced turkey, a delicious pesto, sun dried tomatoes that added a slight sweetness and nice texture, as well as bacon and melted provolone. The roll was toasted and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The Italian Beef was absolutely fantastic! Thinly sliced beef and italian sausage piled high on the same soft roll. The roll was sturdy enough to hold the sandwich and soak up the au jus without falling apart. It was loaded with onions and peppers and plenty of pepperoncini to add some crunch and a briny kick to cut the richness of the sandwich! A delicious pickle and a couple of whole pepperoncini came on the side of the plate to complete the sandwich! We were stuffed as we left and my wife took half of her pesto turkey sandwich home as these are sizable portions! We will be back for sure, I can't wait to try the Philly, and the toasted Italian! The wait staff was attentive, and they had a great flow to everything they did. The attention of the waitstaff worked well with the efficiency of the kitchen staff in a small kitchen. Truly one of the most delicious sandwich shops I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. My boyfriend took me here saying it's his favorite Eugene restaurant, and I can see why. First, the staff was very downto earth and patiently answered my questions about which menu items were no sugar added. Seriously one of the best places in Eug. I try to go here at least once a week and ALWAYS recommend it to any friends/family visiting. The pricing is a little intimidating at first but is (in my opinion) completely worth it. Super generous portions and always the best service. Even when I'm back home in CA, I miss the sandwiches here. There's just nothing like them. Going to Scribles is an experience. Once you've arrived, you're part of the crew. The menu $$$ do seem pricey, but the serving size is LARGE. Got a pastrami on hoagie and small Caesar salad. The sandwich's with blend of pastrami and mustard was quality savory. Salad was pretty good too. I could not eat all of sammie and took 1/2 uneaten home. Date had a flat bread chicken cordon bleu. Good flavors. Also, took 1/2 home. Compared notes on left-overs and they kept their flavors, no blending into blah. Service felt personal but they warn you to be patient on getting food. A beer or cider helped pass time. The building is the old whirled pie building and they changed little. Kept the ambiance of local pub/deli and the night we were there ... everybody seemed to know everyone's name. Great feel. I met a friend for dinner at Scribbles. When I ordered wine, server asked white or red? I said white and he informed me all they had was Pinot Gris, which I took. The Pinot Gris tasted like mass produced wine such as Cupcake or good 'ol Carlo Rossi, so I didn't drink much of the very heavy pour served. I have been craving a good meatball sub, and, since they offer gluten free options without a huge upsell charge to the consumer, I ordered it. No explanation from the server that this would result in getting the smallest sandwich I have ever ordered or paid $15.50 for. I have ordered gluten free options and understand the bread is usually a smaller portion but this meatball sub was pitiful. It appeared as if they had taken a gluten free hot dog bun and cut off the rounded parts, then grilled it. It had no marinara, which I had to ask the cook for. The cook, of his own accord, apologized for the sandwich size and stated he was not able to give me the same size of sandwich as the non-gluten free option. The cook also stated the meatballs were gluten free, I really doubt this. I have eaten Costco meatballs agizillion times in a former workplace and the meatballs tasted exactly like Costco's own. The cook was friendly and took accountability for the miserly serving but only after I asked for some freaking marinara. The server informed my friend and I that they closed at 8 'now', insinuating we had to leave at 8:20. We weren't even finished eating. Transparency about the gluten free option and closing time would have made this a pleasurable experience. I don't have to eat gluten free and I am able to manage time effectively. I do expect staff who serve customers directly to be friendly and informative. My friend (a regular patron) was shocked at the service and portion size and kept apologizing as this was an unusual experience for her at Scribbles. I am a kind, empathetic person and usually a good tipper, I left no tip. Times are hard economically and psychologically for everyone, I get it. I don't get the oddity of this visit and I would not go back here, ever. read more

These guys started out strong, with good deli sandwiches and salads. But the service is horrible. The 2 guys who seem to be there every day I go in are very rude. They seem hung over all the time. They don't open till noon but seem irritated if you come in at 12:15. The drinks are watered down. The soda gun doesn't produce bubbles. I used to frequent this place, but I will not support them anymore due to the way they treat their guests. It is small and sporty inside, they don't have enough tables to be this over stressed about 2 people coming in during business hours. The last time I was in there the skinny guy straight yelled at me because my phone was on when I opened it. I immediately turned it off when I heard it. But he still tried to make me feel bad. I apologized, and he told me again the no speaker phones were allowed. At that point I got up and left with no food. He was so rude. He could of simply asked nicely. What a cute addition to the neighborhood. Located on the edge of downtown, this is a very warm and inviting space. Great tomato soup on a cold rainy day (shocker for Eugene right?) but that isn't all! They have some seriously tasty sandwiches. I had an Italian sandwich that had tons of flavor from many meats and the bread was complete with a great toasted crunch. They have some fun wood paneling on the walls and several flat screen tvs. With those and the beers they have in a cooler, this would be a fun and intimate setting to watch a game at! Ultimately, I loved the food and the friendly service here, as well as the ambiance. The only thing I could complain about is that the sandwiches are on the higher end of what I want to pay for a lunch, ranging from $11-$13. However, the price is understandable given that they are using mostly local and fresh ingredients, so I will pay it to enjoy their sandwiches from time to time. read more

Best Ruben & potato salad in town! I've had lots of friends recommended Scribbles for their Ruben as I am always looking for a good one. Their take is served on a split, toasted, and delicate roll... with meat thinly sliced and piled super high. It's finished off with sauerkraut and melted cheese with a tasty German mustard. The potato salad had the perfect amount of radish for crunch and seasoned with a generous amount of paprika... and it was served SUPER chilled (just how I like it). We also had their special of the day, a tremendous Cubano that is also highly recommended if they are serving it when you are there. I will be back for their Friday rib special and Saturday jambalaya. Or, maybe to just have another Ruben. Wow, great sub! After reading the other reviews, we were headed to the wineries and ordered the meatball and toasted Italian as recommended by many. The bread was fresh and the Italian had so much meat on it, great for sharing.. I've only done take out but seems like a cool place to watch a ball game and have a beer with a sandwich or flat bread. If I could give 4 and 2/3 I would . I just wish they opened an hour earlier on the weekend. This was my first order from Scribles and I was hoping for a Philly cheesesteak. However, they were out for the day (which is a good sign for their cheesesteak!) I called in my order and wasn't prepared for them to be out of my first choice, so I panicked and ordered a pastrami sandwich instead. Not sure why because I'm not a big fan of pastrami. The sandwich was prepared quickly. Quite a lot of mustard and lettuce, but I couldn't really taste the cheese on it. The sandwich was served on a nice sandwich roll--I really liked how the crust was crispy but the inside was soft. My only disappointment was that the hinge of the bread was sopping wet and easily tore apart when I picked it up for my first bite. Some folks might really enjoy this (au jus fans, for example) but I really cannot deal with wet bread. (I've been told I'm weird about this, so I won't make any general claims about the quality of sandwich based off some soggy bread.) This sandwich wasn't my favorite, but its size and the quality of the ingredients makes me want to try something else from Scribles in the future. read more

I discovered this online, never heard of it before. I found Scribbles listed #9 on Yelp. I met a girlfriend there for lunch, we decided to try something new and different. It doesn't have much curb appeal, but I wasn't turned off by that. I was hoping for a new experience. Nice menu, happy to see the gluten free bread option. I had the Reuben on GF bread. It was great! No complaints there. My three star review is for the cleanliness of the place. We were busy talking after we ordered and I didn't really look around until the food came. This place needs a good cleaning. Felt wall hangings with dust and hair on them (right by my table). The rag I saw the waitress wring out was almost black! Still makes me cringe.
