This place has a delicious scratch kitchen and is reasonably priced, if you take advantage of it. I highly recommend you call as of November 30, 2021, they do not have lunch seating opening at 5 PM. Keep in mind if you don't particularly like an ingredient or want something more along the classic line, feel free to ask. BEST oysters in AMERICA! Well this spot is sort of the Outback of Nantucket. It's really not but since it's located out of town and super kid friendly, spacious and has booths with kind of generic upholstery, I've always sort of put it under that umbrella. When living on the island on a more permanent basis I remember often hitting up their bar happy hour for hh priced delicious grilled pizzas and a glass of wine but we're talking close to a decade ago now so we'll keep to my most current experience. My family and I went for an early dinner. Seated in the dining area, they pump that AC. It was freezing. I mean it was really hot out, but the dining room was definitely cooler than any cucumber. The bread basket looked amazing, I passed but the rest of my clan enjoyed the homemade goodies. My brother said the chowder was amazing and definitely recommends ordering a cup. Now, my cod with lobster mashed potatoes was definitely not a calorie saver but worth every bite. A smaller piece of cod, perfectly cooked sitting on top of some cloud like whipped potatoes smothered in a lobster bisque like sauce with chunks of fresh lobster. I did not ask anyone if they wanted a taste, no way in hell was I parting with a bite. My man thoroughly enjoyed his tuna special and my 'rents were happy enough with some grilled swordfish. Only my hermano was a bit disappointed with his blackened fish quesadilla, found on the bar menu which you can order off of in the dining room if you ask. The dish was actually a bean quesadilla with blackened fish on the side but the chunks of avocado and lettuce definitely helped out on the $20 price tag but really, $20 for a quesadilla? The service was friendly, nothing formal but definitely got the job done with a smile. Is this place expensive? I mean it's all relative. Nantucket is an expensive place, you're really paying at least $30 pp anywhere you go for a sit down meal, so, this shies on the lower end of that spectrum, and the meal was not a let down. read more

I'm a bit conflicted writing this review rating it 3 stars. You see the food was outstanding, the service was excellent but the music piping through the dining areas was loud and awful. I'm no snob, liking just about everything from 40's swing music to Jason Aldean/FGL as well as rock, new wave 80's... and most of today's pop music. But this was some of the worst music imaginable. I'm not really sure what it was. It was like smooth jazz meets Phish. then it was crap forgotten and left in the 70s for good reason. I seriously could not return because of it. But if this kind of thing wouldn't bother you, I would absolutely tell you to give Sea Grille a visit. read more

Just finished our family meal - party of 6 - a sub standard meal and service. Owners not taking ownership and it took 1.5 hours for our meal and they were 65% occupied. Wonder if they were 100% occupied - would the service be worse! After we had our waitress Chris take our drink orders - it took 25 minutes to get our drinks (they have 2 bars) they must have been busy! Bread was delivered 40 minutes later...food was just ok. My experience at this establishment was short lived, the manager/hostess was unconscionably rude and as such myself and my party of 13 left immediately. It was easily over 95 degrees F inside and the staff refused to open the windows, or make any reasonable concessions to remedy the situation. The owner then proceeded to berate one of our elderly guests and said "don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out". Had dinner there last night. The new decor looks good. Food and service were good but pricing has gotten too high. They changed all of the drink glasses so they are smaller. They brought me a martini in a shaker the size of a thimble. This used to be a place where the locals went for good food at good prices. Now they are just like everyone else, chasing the dollar. The wife and I stopped in at the SeaGrille for dinner on a Friday night (7pm) without a reservation but were seated right away. Parking a non-Issue. The wife had the Parmesan Swordfish and I had the Surf n Turf with sides of asparagus. The Swordfish steak was all of an Inch or more thick and the wife couldn't say enough good things. The filet Mignon was awesome but felt the tail was more about the presentation then for consumption. Asparagus spears are huge! I can say this place has some really good food, but service-wise aren't that friendly to non-regulars. Second time venturing in to The Sea Grille. The lunch special is what entices me. Half a sandwich and soup that falls in at $11 isn't wallet busting. As is my habit, I order out either by calling ahead or when I get there at the bar. Maybe it's because I've only been there a few times, but the lady behind the bar doesn't seem to like me very much. She's cozy with the other lunch time folk, but not exactly open arms when I show up as of yet. I'll just attribute it to me being unfamiliar. Give it time, right? Though the sound of the phone slamming down in my ear doesn't exactly spell hospitality. Regardless of reception, their food is actually delicious. Half a sandwich and soup at a reasonable price. Their sandwich changes daily, but has been good both times. The most recent being a smoked salmon BLT sandwich. Paired with their out of this world lobster bisque, you get a filling and Nantucket affordable meal. I'm here until September. Maybe the lunch bartender will be my BFF by the end? If not, no big. Had never tried the Sea Grille, so we booked reservations, grabbed a cab and headed over. Place was about 1/2 full on a Monday night. Our waitress Rhonda was very pleasant and attentive. Each of us started with a nice Caesar. For entrees, my wife had the Nantucket Bouillabaisse - lobster, shrimp, scallops, clams, mussels & swordfish in an excellent broth. I had the lobster and fettuccini which was superb - loved the fresh pasta. The seafood in both dishes was so fresh it was amazing. Just because a restaurant is near the ocean doesn't mean their seafood is fresh... Sea Grille was truly awesome - loved it. We'll be stopping back in next time we're in Nantucket! read more

Recently found this restaurant after coming to the island a few times and not knowing about it. It's a fantastic restaurant and the food/service is outstanding. Service was sub standard, no product knowledge and the one question I absolutely hate because it reflects poor salesmanship and shows sheer laziness: "would you like to see the desert menu?" had to top off our dining experience. We've been coming to Nantucket for many, many years (30+ years for my husband; 20+ for me.) We have family friends who are year-rounders, a decent sense of the lay of the land as far as restaurants go. There's a reason why, despite so many years vacationing on this island, in a home we own within a half mile of the restaurant (which has been open forever), and despite spending entire summers here in some years, we've only eaten at Sea Grille four times: The food is boring, overpriced old people food. Some of it is well made boring old people food. The Nantucket bouillabaisse with "lobster, shrimp, seasonal scallops, clams, mussels, swordfish and rouille" cames in a delicious broth, with seafood ranging in quality. The mussels were very fresh, very good; the lobsters were slightly overcooked and rubbery; the swordfish, a grilled, rectangular finger, was thoroughly overcooked, tough, and probably previously frozen. It was something we finished the next day out of a sense of obligation rather than pleasure. Grilled lobster and house made fettuccini with roasted tomatoes, garlic, marinara and beurre blanc was also a mostly well rendered classic version. The tomatoes seemed to have been from a can (inexcusable at this price point, in this season), but flavors in the dish were all well balanced. Fried seafood -- oysters, cod, scallops and shrimp -- fared less well. The breading was overly thick and insufficiently blotted of oil for my tastes, overpowering the seafood. It was a shame given that what we could taste of the seafood was fresh. The best: moist, tender scallops. The worst: oysters, which were chewy lumps of oily breading. Fries were beautifully seasoned, but soggy and oil-logged. Sadly, we didn't get to try the beet salad. We ordered it, were charged for it -- but it was never brought to the table. I don't want to sound whingey. The food at Sea Grille is fine. It's just that at this price point, even on Nantucket, you can do better than just "fine." read more
