    Awesome views on back 9
    Nicole F.

If you get a chance to play this course I definitely recommend it...for the back 9 holes alone. They offer views of Pt. Loma and the Coronado beaches. I wish the course was reversed and those views were on the front 9. As another reviewer has mentioned, their website is completely outdated and not maintained. Pricing on that site is incorrect. They used to charge retirees by rank but now it is all one set fee and I believe around $27 on a weekend, not including the cart. Civilian guests are $37 on the weekend. Cart fee was at least $18 and while more expensive than other bases, these carts come with the latest GPS technology so you don't have to guess where the pin is and yardage if you are new to the course. The greens seem well maintained and play seems a little long at 5 full hours on the weekends. If comparing to other Coronado venues for golf, Sea & Air GC is quite a deal, especially as beer and sodas are pretty cheap too.

Sea N Air is located on base at Coronado north island. You can be escorted by someone with base access to play this course. I actually love playing here, the fairways and greens are well kept. The tea boxes could use some maintenance work but will not affect play. Other than that no complaints from this very affordable 18 hole golf course. At certain parts of the day you'll be accompanied by planes taking off and landing over the back 9. Absolutely awesome!

First of all, Smitty is awesome! Great customer service in the Golf shop! My husband golfs often - I do not. I lost a bet that landed me a day of golf with him. I had never been out on the golf course and yet I felt comfortable and like I fit in right away. The golfers ahead and behind us were all very polite. Of course, my husband knows golf course etiquette so he was able to keep me from making anyone mad I am sure ;) A golf cart rental, and a few cold ones completed the day. Return of the cart and my rented clubs couldn't have been easier - and again, experienced such wonderful customer service. Especially for being on base, I was pleased with the views and the scenery. I am looking forward to going back- and getting better! I am glad I lost that bet after all, never realized how fun golfing can be.

Great day for Coronado Island golf

Awesome golf . Wide fairways and very forgiving course layout. The jet fighters and vintage plans flying above is a sight to see.

The green fees are $85, but my friend informed me he paid a $25 advance hold fee per person, so make that $110. I doubt one would be able to simply walk on to this course. We booked a few weeks in advance and only had two tee time options. We had an 11:30 start time, but didn't tee off until 11:50 due to a tournament, which was backed up. That said, I was both surprised and annoyed to see they allowed the foursome ahead of us to walk versus take carts. We were held up all day and didn't finish until just before 5 PM (sunset was at 4:45). My only other caution is there are at least two holes which run along heavily trafficked streets, where a lot of construction was also underway. If you're easily distracted by noise, this is probably not the course for you. We saw the cart girl on two occasions. Cold beverages and cold food, only. If you want hot food, you'll have to order before you start, after you finish, or between the 9th and 10th holes. I do not recall seeing any bathrooms on the back 9, so be sure to moderate your drinking or else roll the dice if you can't hold it.

The moment you step into the clubhouse you realize the vast history of the location. For example, some parts are in need of major repair, but there are also nearly 100 years of player trophies and accomplishments on display in a large lobby time has not touched (nor cleaners, painters, renovators...but I digress). Don't miss the unbeatable hilltop views out the back of hole 1 and hole 18 side-by-side with the cityscape in the background. The same view can be seen from the restrooms, giving this place the best view from the loo award. I played the regulation 18 (they also have a nine hole executive course). The course was in good to very good condition. It's a fun, unique track and there are some very narrow holes, but fair enough because they are shorter. Accuracy off the tee is favored over length on most of the holes. There are also a few challenging elevation changes, but not many blind approach shots, which I don't think anyone enjoys. It's a fun track that keeps you on your toes. Many holes are lined by canyons so errant shots on those will be lost. Another unique aspect is that Balboa Park sits under the landing path of the airport. I tried to catch an airplane in my photos and it was pretty easy to in most all of them. Pace of play was fine at 4.5 hours on a weekday afternoon. Staff was friendly, but they deal with a lot of people so I could see how things could go sideways as some reviews have mentioned. Just exercise the golden rule. If you play golf and live in San Diego, I say this is a must play at least once. I'll be back again when I'm in the right mood.

I've always tolerated the usual annoyances, but today's experience was disappointing. I attempted to play the 9-hole course with my girlfriend, who is new to golf. She was mostly coming to walk along with my friend and me, but wanted to hit a few tee and approach shots for practice. We were more than willing to pay for an extra round for her to be more comfortable on a course. The pro shop said this was fine, yet the starter/manager turned us away solely because she didn't have a full set of clubs, stating it is policy. This decision felt arbitrary and is inconsistent with my experiences here. I've repeatedly seen regulars on the 9-hole course play with few clubs, no bags, and dressed poorly without issue, yet she was singled out and denied. She was dressed appropriately, had the clubs she's comfortable with, and the interaction was unnecessarily hostile. While the course is kept in decent shape, the pace of play is always extremely slow, the range is in poor condition, and staff can be hit or miss. Experiences like this make it hard to recommend, especially given all the other issues. To the starter who turned us away: this kind of behavior doesn't grow the game or help the course. She was extremely excited to be included for a round and took the afternoon off of work to make it, which you ruined for some small power trip. This is a budget municipal facility, and if policies are going to be enforced, they should at least be enforced consistently. I've been around golf courses since before I could walk and have played courses around the country, and this was easily the least hospitable interaction I've had with course staff. Do better.

Blessed with a pleasant bay view, the seemingly automatic customer base of the always busy Coronado golf course, and the disposable income of this affluent community, you would think that this indoor/outdoor setting would be a perfect place for brunch or lunch at 11am to noon on a beautiful Saturday, but our post-round meal was accompanied by lots of empty tables, empty space, and empty vibes. Although my salad had good flavor, it was surprisingly small. My friend ordered a sad-looking tuna melt that he said was the worst he had ever had. Another friend said the same thing about his old fashioned, which had a bizarre red tint to it that indicated an over-abundance of bitters or perhaps a flat-out wrong ingredient like Campari. Either way, it's clear that the bartender did not know how to make a very simple classic cocktail. The service was also abysmal. Although the place was far from busy, his terrible old fashioned didn't arrive until after the entrees, which themselves took quite a long time to arrive. And this was after my friend had to remind the server that he hadn't received his drink. Also, upon inquiring if I could substitute chicken for the turkey in my salad, he enthusiasticly said yes without informing me that that the substitution would be a five dollar upcharge, which came as an unwelcome surprise on the final bill. Finally, the chairs are horribly uncomfortable, and for someone with a bad back, sitting there for an hour was not a pleasant experience. All of this probably explains why business looked so paltry on a such a lovely Saturday. With such a great setting, the Coronado golf course really deserves better. I'm being generous with the two stars, but it's safe to say that our post-round meals and drinks will be enjoyed elsewhere from now on.

We walked in and while it was a little loud for us older folks, we looked around and took in all that was happening. There were people there much older than us as well as people barely old enough to be in a bar. The pianist (s) were hard at work a the drummer was rocking out too. We sat down. Let me tell you, that was the most fun we have had in a long time! All three musicians played multiple instruments, piano, harmonica, sax, and drums. The songs were everything from Slim Shady to Elton John and everything in between. Slips of paper were placed on the piano, a nod was given and off they went. The crowd sang along and we all laughed! Some of it was silly but ALL of it was fun! Highly recommend. About 10:30 the older crowd started making their way out, us included, early morning flight but we would have stayed until closing time. We might have paid for it the next day but had we not had a plane to catch we absolutely would have stayed. It was fun to see multiple generations having so much fun together and the music was incredible. We had just eaten so we didn't order food but what we saw on other tables looked good. Go!!
