    Smoked bincho tataki

    * Great little Japanese seafood market * In all the years I've lived in Vancouver, I had no idea this little strip mall existed. It isn't on a major street so I never passed it. You literally need to be looking for it to find it. The store has three main businesses: 1) Tourist food perfect for grabbing and bringing as a gift (local smoked salmon, maple syrup, maple sugar, maple caramels, etc.) 2) Local Japanese style seafood products (everything from large whole halibuts to individually portioned fillets of black cod to sashimi, etc.) 3) Mail-order targeted to shipping the above two to Japan. They are setup to ship directly with a shipping partner in Japan. They even include Japanese language instructions for how to prepare each seafood item. For what it is worth, the price to ship to Japan is amazingly high, so I wouldn't consider #3 myself. But they will actually pack up items for you ready to ship with proper cooling, etc. so you can check it in as luggage on a trip to Japan - nice! To try out their products we picked up two items: - Cod fillets (at a very reasonable 88 cents/lb!). These were frozen at sea, and once defrosted were very fresh tasting. Ridiculously inexpensive too! - Smoked bincho tataki. We got a decent sized loin of this (enough for about 12 generous slices) for about $4.50. It was packaged in clear vacuum packaging. They lightly smoke the sashimi and then lightly sear the outside. The combination of the light smoke and the sear made for a very unique tataki when we sliced it up at home (apologies for bad knife skills!). I still really like Angel as well, but this will be a nice addition to the Japanese seafood shopping circuit!

I wanted sockeye salmon this year for the freezer. I like the idea of not having to wash cut and…read morewrap my own fish. I can guarantee you I clean them better then they would (only because I spend more time on them) and to cut them I prefer larger pieces for baking so that isn't a big deal. But it takes time to clean up the mess (not that bad) So I thought I'll get them from 1fish2fish. But when I seen they want 18.00 a pound I said no way. I can buy sockeye for 10.00 per lb. So they are saying they want 8.00 a lb for cutting and wrapping? Not from me they are getting this price. You know if you would have not got so greedy with your prices you would have alot more business. Or maybe you are and the people that are paying this price have too much money in there wallets :) Sorry to say until your prices come down I will not be a customer. I gave you are 2 star only because you product is good :) So if you don't mind the prices then go for it!

Our Yelp search led us to 1 Fish 2 Fish and now we order our Lobsters with them ever since. We eat Lobster 3 to 4 times a year for celebrations and have never been disappointed with the quality. Worth the 45 min drive one way across the border. Would recommend them in a heart beat to anyone looking for quality fresh seafood. Several cuts above anything that you'd at a regular market. The word is "fresh".
