Came here for the reviews. I started with Mr. Crab, was really good. Continued with 6x2 pieces of sushi including Ikura Uzura. Had a very good sake, Dassai 45, and some Asahi beer. By far the best quality sushi you can find in Ventura County. I recommend making a reservation in advanced and maybe going on the earlier side to make sure you get the fish you want. They sometimes sell out of their most popular fish later in the night on weekends - a sign they have only fresh fish on hand imo. Service is always great. Most importantly, the service is inconsistent. 3 times I have been "manhandled" by servers trying to get an upper hand on optimizing their tables. I am a Resy member thru Amex and expect fair treatment. I won't eat at the sushi bar (which is where they hope to seat me) because the chairs don't support my finicky back. Nonetheless, the rudeness (3 times now), is beyond compare. Shame on you! Maybe Seabutter should profile European cafes where each customer is respected, where patrons are welcomed with a smile, and allowed sitting even as they linger much longer than expected. Average sushi. Nothing special. The hand rolls were mediocre, because the seaweed was not of highest quality to where it allows the simple breakaway and crunch. The sushi falls apart when you pick it up with your fingers or a chopstick. Therefore it is not pressed properly and when asked to fix it. The Sushi Chef laughed at me and argued. Even though I showed him that it's impossible to eat. He agreed, but still laughed and replaced it with a new one. it was better. Overall experience nothing special. Especially for the area. Internal atmosphere was lovely and my server was excellent but in such a Richie neighborhood. You would expect much more from a sushi restaurant than this. read more

This one star is strictly for the incompetent women working as the host tonight on Wednesday, February 1. We had a reservation set for 6:30 -- arrived at 6:10. There was a table available for a 4 top upon arriving. We had asked the host if we could sit there because the next 3 parties on the list were all 2 tops anyways. And she had said she had to save that table for a party of 3 with a reservation at 6:45... 30 minutes later... that's okay. I figured with such a small capacity, they sat parties accordingly. But if you're so gung-ho about not being able to sit a party of 3, 30 minutes later, you shouldn't have sat an incomplete party of 4 when only 1 person was present. Her logic made no sense to me so we were arguing back and forth until finally she had just brushed us off and walked away to help someone at the bar. Ridiculous. Please get better staff. Pretty early on Friday for dinner and it took very long for a server to come take our order. One even said he would be right with us and we never saw him again. Ended up with another one, she was very good once service finally started. Food came out very fast but most of it was mediocre. Sushi rice was too loose so things fell apart pretty easily. Wagyu in the wagyuband uni sushi was very chewy. Salmon crispy rice was smothered in sauce and was too salty. Chicken was dry and salty. The Seabutter roll is on the hand/cut rolls section of the menu which states they can be made as a hand roll or a cut roll but when we ordered it as a cut roll they said it can only be done as a cut roll. Toro was very thin. Scallop & uni sushi and the chilean seabass were great. read more

Another seabutter in the town!!! I am a huge fan of seabutter since they have been operating in multiple locations in southern cal. Beverly hills and laguna beach. I was visiting my family last weekend then i found a new seabutter just opened in promenade mall in Westlake Village. I loved the inside. Clean, neat and modern. Especially it is open kitchen, so i can watch all master chef's move from my table. The store was packed when i was there last Sunday night. My bad I didn't expect that. As usual, fantastic hospital experience from Seabutter. I wish i can see more seabutter in the future. Sorry forgot to take a photo. PS: kanpachi yuzu must try Salmon truffle. read more

Ok for starters I didn't realize this was a chain. Now on to the review. So I do want to start off by saying that this was my first time. I was excited and booked a table for 6 people. The place isn't big , but I didn't feel like I had to constantly ask for the servers attention. I didn't like that I had to ask the server 2 times that we are ready to order appetizers. Lucky the second person I asked brought my dish For the apps : I didn't care for the garlic edamame. it wasn't anything special. Soups: I had the mushroom miso soup, honestly it was ok , I should have gotten the udon like my friends did or the regular miso. The crispy rice salmon was delicious I would get that again Ok rolls time: 1. Crispy albacore = the amount of crispy onion on top was a bit ridiculous. It overpowered the roll. 2. Saw the reviews and was skeptical. I was thinking ehhh just overpriced Westlake bs. I was very wrong. Fish quality 12/10, service was superb. We sat at the sushi bar which was fine, hoped for a bit more interaction with the sushi chefs but they keep to themselves. No worries because the food was insane. Yellowtail belly, chutoro, king salmon, halibut, albacore sushi were all perfection. Spicy yellowtail crispy rice was delicious, the truffle salt they use is out of this world. We walked in and only waited 20 minutes for a table. The employees were very welcoming and the place looked very nice inside and out. We got our food quick and it was so delicious. The albacore crispy onion was really fresh and our favorite. We also got the Hot Night roll with soy paper and the tuna was a little spicy but so delicious. I went to the new Seabutter Sushi in Westlake Village tonight. We ordered the Omakase which did not disappoint. Positives - the Nigiri was excellent, especially the cod, toro and the amberjack. Very fresh, fish and a perfect sushi to rice ratio (we only had nigiri). The service was fast and pleasant, every employee greeted us with a smile and offered to serve us. The ambiance was modern and clean. The price was pretty good, I felt that it was not overpriced and that our meal was really good for what the bill was. Negatives, they brought all the sushi out at once. I much prefer it served at a nice pace and not get 10 pieces put in front of me at once. For an upscale restaurant I was surprised by the disposable chop sticks in a paper package and the cheap paper napkins (easily fixed, please get real chopsticks and cloth napkins). All in all it was a positive experience and I would go back. I do think with a few small tweaks, cloth napkins, real chopsticks, and slower pace of service it would be one of the best sushi places in town. read more

Depending on the roll, you either got 6 or 8 pieces which were mostly rice and hardly any fish. One of the rolls took forever to come out for some reason. First of all, the staff is amazing and deserves all the accolades. Super friendly and amazing from first greeting through the time we unfortunately couldn't eat another bite and had to waddle out. The sushi, oh my god - fresher, tastier, more professionally prepared, than anything you've had to date. Honestly rivals some of the best sushi / Omakase spots in the country. First time trying the place the other day. It was good. Fresh fish, recommend trying the toro roll and the scallop sushi with uni on top. Those where good. Service was good friendly kinda of small so it can get crowded fast. It's definitely a certain type of sushi, if you are looking for raw fish not a lot of cooked stuff this is your place. Went this past weekend to a "soft opening." It took waaay to long to be seated (30 minutes longer than we were told). The service was excellent.
