Just finished having lunch here. Mmm! We ordered the tostadas de ceviche, 1lb crab legs boiling pot, half dozen oysters on the half shell and the crab cakes. Since it's wednesday, the crab legs were only $8.95. The ceviche was amazing. I really wanted to try the seafood gumbo but I was beyond stuffed. The restaurant itself isn't much to wrote home about but the hole in the wall places are the best ones. Staff was super friendly. This was our (the wife and me) first time to try this place.....and man are we glad we did! It was a Friday night and it was very crowded. We started off with ceviche. It tasted very fresh but it needed a little more lime juice and a dash of Tabasco. I had the fried fish and shrimp basket. They had the perfect amount of corn meal breading and the fries were hot and crispy. My only complaint is that the hush puppies were a little dry. My wife had the grilled shrimp tacos and she was very pleased with the taste as well as the amount of shrimp. Aside from the food, we have another reason to go back. THE FROZEN MARGARITAS!!!!! These were the best margaritas I have ever tasted! Nothing tasted like it came from a mix. It was a perfect combination of sweet, tart, and certainly had a wonderful tequila kick. I have not frequented other Mexican seafood restaurants so i have little to compare to, but this place is authentic and very busy amongst a largely hispanic clientele. I've had fish tacos, shrimp enchiladas, the ceviche, and shrimp cocktail on prior visits. My most recent visit I tried the shrimp and crab boil. Excellent portions and while not the prettiest plates, they're very tasty and I've never left wanting. The former Dairy Queen shell of the restaurant highlights their big problem. Limited seating. When it's busy, you absolutely cannot navigate this restaurant, almost to the point where you need to consider other options if you show up during a rush. The facility is a giant limitation here. If they could seat another 100 or so people, they'd be able to handle the rushes a lot better, but their current location is not going to allow this. If you can show up during a non-rush, prepare to enjoy yourself, otherwise, best of luck finding a seat. read more

This is a little neighborhood restaurant with a big heart! The atmosphere is extremely casual, and the food is fresh and delicious. Our appetizer of 12 cold shrimp was just the start of a fabulous meal - huge shrimp and a delicious cocktail sauce with a good kick. The garlic tilapia was very good, and the salmon was excellent. Went there with friends because it always looked busy and busy means it's usually good right? The food was good. But waiting for our food to get to our table was about 20-25 min? I would say they need to work on getting food out faster. Also, my friend ordered the fried calamari and it was overcooked. Not sure if we had a bad batch, but we weren't satisfied with the calamari. Shrimp cocktail was good, but it was too watery. I feel they need to keep up of what's out and needs to be refilled. When we got there, their horchata was out & we didn't have any crackers at our table for our cocktails. We also had to get a table that wasn't clean and had to clean it ourselves. So far this is my favorite cheap seafood dive in Dallas. The food can take a little while because they make it all to order. I had fried oysters which were delicious. They were nice and crispy on the outside but tasted like the ocean on the inside. Perfectly cooked. Awesome, hole in the wall, casual seafood spot. Order at the counter, easy and super fun menu, highlighting all types of cooking--grilled, boiled and of course fried to goodness seafood. The portions are generous and the items are super flavorful. We had the tostadas de cameron (shrimp tostadas) and they had some really nice heat. Definitely will order again. We also had jalapeños stuffed with a jumbo shrimp and crab cake! Yum! This place rivals other casual seafood casual places in town and is completely authentic. Customer service needs some improvement here. None of the employees are friendly and on top of that they look like they do not want to be there. However, they DO bring out your order so I guess thats good. Despite all this my wife and I keep coming here because of the food. The Shrimp Flautas are the best!!! Grilled Tilapia was delicious .. Guacamole had an extra onion which made it a bit spicy but still it was delightful .. Price was fair but the appetizers were a bit expensive to go for beside the meal (unless you're sharing). I would absolutely go there again. I just if their menu had some photos or explanation so I can order something that I don't know safely. Don't let the shady location deter you. This is legit Mexican seafood. We came on a Wednesday and everyone inside had the shrimp and crab soup. My husband saw that as a good sign and ordered it. I ordered the crab and shrimp boil. I asked for light on the spice since I saw other reviews and I hate when crab boils are so spicy you regret it the next day. When it came out it was literally drowning in spices but once I took a bite it was actually mild but flavorful. It came with plenty of potatoes and 2 corn cobs. It was actually enough for two people. I got thru about half and took the rest home. Lunch for two was kinda pricey at $40 but completely worth it for the amount of fresh seafood we got. I took home at least a pound of shrimp. The food is the best. The service is rough. But the boiling pot can't be beat. As good as any fancy chain restaurant, or better. We have had customer situations that were uncomfortable. When people come in there on a Sunday morning hung over, they can be complete assholes, & the staff says & does nothing. After finding my way to Two Guys - thanks, Yelp - I put Seafood Shack Numero Uno on my list of "What's next?" I love Mexican food. I love seafood. And apparenlty I now love Mexican Seafood. And I really feel confident with my dining choice when I'm the only white boy in there on a Friday night. The Shack looks like it took over an old DQ, and the counter service works perfectly. A big plastic menu hangs over the counter, and the menu lacks any descriptive terms. (Note: Even though the Shack is Mexican-ee and is frequented by Latinos, there are no TexMex dishes, so if you want enchiladas, that's no bueno). You either know what mariscos (seafood soup), camarones (shrimp), ceviche, and shrimp cocktail (not the gringo version) are - or you ask. Which we did for some items and the counter guy didn't seem the least bit bothered having to tell gringos that ceviche is citrus-marinated "seafood" with avacado on a tostada. Nice touch. We also had Mexican Cocktail, which I loved already, and the Shack's was a solid rendition of a classic dish. At least try the small. It's only $4. In addition, we had oysters which were suprisingly large, and shrimp nestled so gently in a fresh jalapeno, wrapped in a little bacon blanket, and then baked in the oven like cookies from mi abuela. (OK, I need the prometida first.) Regardless, I will never again eat the Sysco-brand, frozen-in-a-box-then-fried crap. ("Who took my sabor?") They have a couple of bottled beers, frozen margaritas, bloody marys, and their liquor offering - as noted on their menu - consisted of 1) "Tequila" and 2) "Whiskey". That's awesome. It suggests to me that I should either go hard or go home. If you go for the first time and you just want to try out the flavors, skip the temptation to go with fried shrimp. Yawn. Order 1) a small Mexican Cocktail, 2) one tostada of Ceviche, and 3) Bacon and Shrimp Jalapenos and a couple of longnecks each. It'll run you maybe $20. I give the Shack 5 stars in relation to other fast casual, Mexican coastal seafood places - which do not exist. Are there even any other places? This has become "our' place...once we figured out that their oysters weren't our thing, we realized everything else is! It is always packed as others have pointed out, but aside from sometimes having to wait a long time to order, the food always comes out pretty quickly. It can be a bit awkward as the line snakes closer to the door but I've never had to actually wait outside or anything. Pro-Tip: if you're with someone, have them scout a table while you stand in line to order as the tables fill up fast. We always get the shrimp cocktail- we've found that one medium cocktail each plus sharing another thing -either the ceviche or shrimp flautas- make for a very delicious, filling meal. For the first time yesterday, they offered me octopus in the cocktail which was cool. It was very tasty and a nice little bit of added texture. We do usually get the ceviche but this time tried the shrimp flautas. Usually when I think flautas I think just a fried tube of tortilla full of meat but I'd seen a picture of the flautas and they are loaded up with a bunch of stuff on top- I needed to know what the stuff was! So, it is two big flautas, full of cheese, strips of jalapeno, and lots of shrimp; on the ends of the flautas, the leave the tails on your can kinda use it as a handle. Then, on top, there is a bunch of slaw, sour cream, queso fresco, and like a buffalo hot sauce, which is interesting, they also give you some for dipping. This thing was delicious and really, if we weren't already geared up for shrimp cocktail we were pretty full from just the flautas. They kind of seem more like an appetizer but they come with rice so I guess they are intended as a meal on their own. We each had a frozen margarita and it was a perfect Sunday dinner. It's not super cheap (we always end up spending around $40 for two people) but you are getting tons of delicious seafood for your money! The online menu isn't super descriptive but the printed menu is; it's helpful since my husband is gluten free and we need to know which stuff is fried- for example, Tacos Cancun ARE breaded fish but the regular fish or shrimp tacos are not, the shrimp enchiladas are made with corn tortillas, etc. read more

If however you are looking for an upbeat kid friendly atmosphere and delicious cheap seafood than this is your place. Monday is Margarita and Ceviche day. Both priced way below what you could get elsewhere. Tuesday is oyster day. They sell raw oysters at $0.30 a piece. Your not going to beat that around here. I had driven by this place all the time and never noticed it until i started to notice some of my friends that dont live so close anymore would check in to the place quite frequently on their facebook. One day i had a craving for fried fish and figured my girlfriend and i should see what this place was about. Let me start off with this : all the employees are wearing a seafood shack shirt that says "Best ceviche tostadas and shrimp cocktail in dallas" and sure enough just about all the plates coming out had tostadas on them. It was hard to decide what i wanted but let me tell you, i ended up NOT getting any fried fish!! On our first visit we ended up spending about 60 bucks but boy were we satisfied and stuffed like never before! We had Shrimp and ceviche tostadas wich are now my all time favorite!! The ceviche is like nothing ive ever tasted before, its not too lemony or salty and its super fesh, just a few drops of hot sauce and youre good to go! you probably wont eat just one. While the shrimp tostada is pretty good too theres a creaminess to it that i didnt quite like but my girlfriend prefers these over the ceviche. The shrimp cocktail is amazing! in my opinion far better than aw shucks and big shucks, which i used to think were great but after having the seafood shacks - now seem too bland. Lets see i've also had the gumbo which is really flavorfull, chunky and hearty! The crablegs.. oh my Gosh those grab legs!! Their crab cakes are pretty good too, not as good as pappadeaux or saltgrass's crab cakes but for what it costs pretty satisfying. I eventually tried the fried catfish and that is very good too, very meaty and the breading is far better than what you get other places. its not so greasy and fatty! All together i must say this is a place you want to visit to get some great seafood at a great price. for a few months we used to go at least twice a week! I see so many people order micheladas and they down them like no ones business but i always either order a coke or a margarita, so i have yet to try those but theyre definitely on my list! Something i almost left out!! their service is amazing! theres mostly only young ladies working behind the bar and the register and they are all so friendly they make you feel at home! We were at the Italian place next door, that was as good as it has been for over 20 years and noticed this place doing a pretty brisk business, so we decided to give it a try a couple of nights later. What a disappointment. Our food came out nearly 10 minutes apart from each other, but that was just the beginning. The food was not good. Overcooked, over breaded and very flavorless. Hush-puppies were dense, oysters were mush and the shrimp were little hockey pucks. The catfish was so thin, it was like eating a shingle. Overnight, I had horrible indigestion and the guy I was at dinner with said he was sick for an hour overnight!!! Every place can have an off night, but that did not seem to be the vibe we got. I can only guess that the GOOD REVIEWS come from a lack of options for seafood in the area. Do yourself and drive a little to any of the SHUCKS locations. we recently stopped by after driving by a few times and never seeing it empty. it was a friday night and we were going to meet our friends who recently moved to the area. upon entering we realized we were the only non spanish fluent people in there, but hey - I took 4 years of Spanish and have made quite a few trips across the border (by plane and car), so we actually felt right at home. this place rocks!! check out the happy hours and specials each days. they have a day that has .25 cent oysters, plus others. we ordered (to go) a medium mexican shrimp cocktail, a michelada to share, and a fried shrimp/fish basket, took our seat at the bar. there were a few men eating a wonderful looking caldo de camaron or mar(soup of shrimp or seafood), and everyone seemed to be having wonderful beer or micheladas. they have a drive thru but I don't recommend it because this place's authenticity was just incredible. we want to come back for a lunch special, or a dinner special. all in all the food was awesome and fresh, michelada (mexican bloody beer with worcestershire, pepper, salt, hot sauce, lime and clamato with your choice of beer) was incredible, and the friendly service was cool and not found elsewhere. come here if you can, you won't be disappointed! read more

Yep. This place is good. I've been three times and Im a fan. This is a mexican style seafood restaurant. So seafood cocktails, ceviches's and caldo's are on the menu. YUM. Today I had a sauteed dish w shrimp, fish, octopus. It was very good. Nice spice heat to the dish and the texture of the seafood was perfect. I didnt have to add any hot sauce, pepper or anything. Well done Seafood Shack. Also tried the Cancun tacos. A fried fish taco. The fried fish was perfect. Light. Not greasy w tons o flavor. Had a spicy salsa-ish topping to go w it and it was out of this world. I look at the plates everyone gets too and everything looks delicious. Its usually crowded so also a good sign. Why don't you just hire a waitstaff so we don't have to stand in line for 15 minutes in a cramped little area which blocks the door? The food is good-but would be super if there were some things explained in English on the menu since last time I checked we were still in the states. Got the fish tacos *I could read it... So it was my natural choice. They were a little on the soggy side but with roughly a cup of theit table sauce per taco they were pretty good. Service was no bueno. They forgot our kid's entrees and it took 20 minutes for one of our girls to get her lunch. Plus side: crab and shrimp stuffed jalapenos were awesome. Prices were reasonable. It had been 12 hours and I do not suffer any effects of a food-bourne illness. Downside: it looks and feels and is a shack, true to the name. Our order was wrong twice, and the wait was RIDICULOUS, which in and of itself is not a big enough reason after one visit for me to leave a review, but with that, this food wasn't even good enough to go back. I would call it an issue of miscommunication on yelp's part, because this is not simply seafood, definitely not cajun, it's Mexican. It was also underwhelming. The catfish and shrimp were run of the mill. The cole slaw didn't taste like cole slaw, the fried okra didn't taste like fried okra. As for the actual Mexican dishes, maybe they're good? Small place off of Webb chapel. Thought it was similar to boiling crab but they have wider range of items to choose. We got the 1 lb shrimp and crab legs. Those items had good seasoning.
