My coworker and I are on a mission to try all the little restaurants in our corner of Dallas. Today we tried the Seafood Shack. Several people we work with often go there to get fried fish platters, but when one lady told about their amazing cheviche we were sold. The place is in a old style dinner building tucked in behind an Italian joint, and it was busy. You order at the counter and they give you the number on a stick for your table. They run lunch special each day in addition to their daily special which was Tuesday 30 Cent oysters. The lady I was with got the shrimp tostada, and I got the garlic tilapia with a dozen oysters. It was a lot of food!! The shrimp tostada was a chilled shrimp salad on a fresh tostada and it was tasty. The garlic tilapia was a huge portion with rice and nicely sauteed squash. The oysters were fresh, but I'm used to having mine with horseradish and lemon, they serve theirs with lime. The food was great, but I took one star off for service and atmosphere. The girl brought out the first dish and then took the number so when the rest of the food came out they didn't know where it went. Also, it took a few minutes to order at the counter though we were the only people waiting to order. The place has all of its signs in spanish and english which is nice, but you get some looks for not being Hispanic walking into the place. Not the restaurants fault, but seriously? I recently ate at this restaurant and had the ceviche tostados which was very good. I have had this dish at other popular Mexican restaurants and have I have to say this is my new favorite in Dallas. The flavor and texture was great. The staff are friendly and were very helpful answering some questions. I will be going back to try some other dishes. I did find it a little confusing when trying to order due to the layout of the front of the restaurant. When you are at the counter the menu is almost literally directly above your head. I should have known I'd log on and find this place with a solid four stars. All these people are right, by the way. We walked over here because my girlfriend was having work done on her car at Pep Boys. Not planned. It was jammed, which was a good sign. The staff was managing the traffic really well (it's got a diner vibe), which was a better sign. The catfish was fresh, and freshly cooked, and was really really excellent. Catfish has no business being that good in a diner on Webb Chapel road. One thing we didn't try, but saw on damn near every table, was Ceviche. We'll knock that one out next time. Maybe it was because it was a hot Sunday afternoon in Texas, but I also liked the vibe there too. Great mix of people there, heavy Latin influence in both the dishes and the drinks. After leaving Houston Capt. Tom's left an impression on me so I went in search of the next best place to get my Raw Oysters, Gumbo and Micheladas fix. I walk in place is full of people and its right next to the Two Guys from Italy I always hear about. Oysters good. Gumbo tasty, I like how they separate the rice from the bowl and serve it with bread. Micheladas Eh.... Tastes like minestrone, not spicy, too much no carbonation. Fuck that. The food is awesome, batter is good different taste, fried fish filets are good, oyster's nice flavor and meaty great temperature, shrimp is delicious and a great price. 5 stars if the Micheladas were better. read more

I have had this place twice and the second time I must say it was not enjoyable. First of all it took at least half an hour to get our order threw the drive threw in which I believe they forgot about us entirely. After I received meal it s wasn't worth the wait. A Louisiana native, I got the catfish in which it was dry, tasteless, and lame. Idk if I'll be going back but if I do I hope they have a better showing. read more

We arrived at the restaurant 10 minutes prior to closing and were greeted with a nice welcoming smile by everyone. There were still several people in the restaurant eating and the drive thru was also busy. I commented that hopefully we were not too late to place an order. But the counter person assured us that we had plenty of time. Our food orders were placed and we were given a number. When our food was brought out my catfish basket was hot and the catfish were nice sized, wonderfully cornmeal breaded, very fresh and quite tasty. My dinner partner had ordered the combination shrimp & catfish basket. The shrimp were large, nicely butterflied and lightly seasoned. A big disappointment! Service was slow and shrimp had a heavy batter and tasted like frozen food. Fried fish was a little better but not much. The coleslaw was not edible as was soggy with mayonnaise. Fries were limp! I certainly wouldn't waste my time and money to visit again. read more

When you go to a new place for food, the first bite is the most important. If you don't love it, you most likely won't develop a like for it as you keep eating. I just got from seafood shack, and ordered at thier drive through window. Even though there is a sign advising you to remember this is not a fast food restraunt, and that you might wait up to 25 minutes for food, I was in and out in less than ten minutes, and with excellent service to boot. I ordered the shrimp tostadas on the lunch menu, and I have to tell you, these are phenomenal. They are really quite good, and I'm surprised that I've never been here before, me being a seafood junkie and all. All in all, I'm very happy to have finally tried this pace and am looking forward to trying everything else on the menu. read more

"Where to go, where to go?" I asked myself on one particular Tuesday. Nothing about this Tuesday was special in any way. I called a friend to ask what he was doing and he told me he was going to Seafood Shack with his girlfriend for some cheap oysters. "Oysters?" I asked. "Oysters," he answered. I was invited and happily decided to play third wheel. So the restaurant itself is fairly clean and large. You order up front and they give you a number so the server knows where to deliver the food. The revolutionary ordering system about this place. If you have already ordered and have a number, you can go to the short line on the left to add onto the order! WONDERFUL! Between the 3 of us, we ordered 9 dozen orders. One shrimp and one fish ceviche, the combo soup, and the crap and shrimp stuffed jalapeno. I like oysters as much as the next person. These were pretty delicious oysters. They're not too large which is why I was able to finish close to 3 dozen on my own. But for 30cents per, I'm not complaining. Don't forget to ask for the horseradish! The ceviches were both pretty delicious. The shrimp ceviche comes out more like mayonnaise~y than the classic fish. I would have preferred the ceviche with some tortilla chips becuase the tostata underneath the ceviche started to get soggy. The combo soup wasn't what I expected but delicious in its own right. It had a whole bunch of seafood in the soup itself that was cooked perfectly. I wasn't TOO big on the broth but those chunks of seafood inside the soup more than made up for the broth. The crap and shrimp stuffed jalapeno came from right field. This one, I didn't order. I should have though. It comes with 3 pieces and I could have eaten 2 more. Pluses - somewhat decent drink prices, particularly at Happy Hour (which ends at 6pm, a bit early) and the night we went a live mariachi band. Minuses - the rest. Can't remember being this disappointed. The amazing calamari people write about? Small portion of rubber. The slaw that came with it was the tastiest thing we had all night. We ordered a shrimp po boy and fried shrimp and fish combo Cajun style. Both were just not good. The po boy is nothing of the sort - tasted like breading on bread. Came with tartar sauce. Huh? The fried combo was worse - the Cajun breading was flavorless and only by drowning it in remoulade was it palatable. Sadly as of this wasn't all so bad we had a horrible server. Everything took forever, my water glass sat empty for ages, she never stopped to ask how the food was and then the kicker - asks us if we want a to go box (as we hadn't touched much of it). I say yes please and she was oblivious, instead grabbing the two plates and handing them to the busser behind her who promptly drops them in the trash. Yes really. Won't be back. I love their stuffed jalapenos!!! They are amazing - stuffed with cheddar cheese and shrimp.. wrapped in bacon! Tilapia was great as well. My husband and I have been known to stop in 3 times in a week and pick up the jalapenos and the crab and shrimp boil. Amazing! read more

It is what they say... a shack, so nothing fancy; but it's crowded, and worth the fight for a table. Think seafood meets a delectable Mexican food flair. Today I had the grilled salmon with veggies and they hit it out of the park! It was worth 15.00, but I just paid $8.95 on the lunch special. Saw some happy hour drink specials and such but haven't been able to partake. They have a variety of fried fish, shrimp, etc. If seafood is your thing and you want something very casual and yummy, this is your place. read more
