I'm not a seafood fan but everyone else in the family is, so we frequent Seagrass for a nice dinner out in Ocean Grove. The family raves that their meals are consistently fantastic and all the seafood is fresh. I always find something to suite my childlike picky-eater ways and can vouch that the menu has enough variety to cater to families with children, vegetarians or gluten-free eaters. Great wine selection, and the staff is friendly and responsive enough to offer you a suggestion if you're still learning about wine and want to find the right bottle to compliment your meal. Seagrass manages to create an elegant but unpretentious atmosphere so I appreciate that very much. I feel totally comfortable going to dinner here in a sundress and flipflops. read more

Doing a great job of serving the community during the Covid 19 pandemic. Food was great and price was reasonable. All restaurants should be striving to do the same instead of just closing their doors and laying off their employees. The food and service at SeaGrass are amazing. Clam chowder had tender chunks of clam. (Many times the clams in chowder are chewy). Sword Fish was perfectly cooked and paired with jasmine rice and coconut curry. Tuna was tender and flavorful with wasabi mashed potatoes. bok choy and seaweed slaw. We visited Sea Grass on a Sunday afternoon in August. It was a great meal, and it was nice being able to sit outside as they offer sidewalk seating. I went with the Blackened Tilapia ($10), and my co-diners had the crispy chicken salad ($12) and the Lobster BLT ($16). My dish was very good, and they both reported their's as being excellent. In addition, I had a cup of the clam chowder, which was top notch. All the dishes were reasonably priced for lunch as mentioned. Pros - Great food, good atmosphere, reasonable prices. Cons - not much to report on - they ran out of the Pulled Pork which looked really good, but I guess that is why they ran out of it. In addition, it took a few minutes before they sat us, even with an open table waiting for us, as they didn't seem to have an actual outdoor host/hostess. It was our first visit, but definately will not be our last! read more

Had the best experience at dinner this past weekend. The ambiance & service/staff was excellent. The right amount of choices on the menu. Of course, I stay on the look out for new trendy dishes on the specials, this way it keeps me coming. Food, our Server etc = wonderful. Being asked if my friend wanted her meal wrapped a minute after having it brought to our table was not wonderful. We were then asked by the same young woman twice if she "could take that" while we were all still eating. We were here past May before my daughter's choir concert. There were no seating inside so we dined outside. The dishes were all beautifully presented and tasted great. We ordered grilled & fried cod, seared seascallops, Wasabi pea crusted ahi tuna and fried softshell crab. All the entree were fresh and delicious but pricy. Each entree costed about $28. Had dinner here for the first time last night. We were a group of 10 people. The service was very good and the food was well prepared and tasty. We will certainly return. Veronica was our server and was terrific. Dealing with our group of load talking disorganized people was the same as herding cats. She was patient,caring and helpful in making food selections. We tried three appetizers. The best were the home made thick cut potato chips served with a hot melted cheese. Second best was the coconut grilled shrimp seed with a raspberry sauce. The calamari was fine, nothing special. A number of us ordered the cod fish served with a lobster sauce on top with hunks of lobster. Excellent, cooked perfectly. A few people ordered the sea scallops, they seemed to like them, it did not look appetizing to me. Meghan ordered sea food with parpadelle and it was enormous. She took enough home to have for dinner tonight. Bread served was warm and accompanied by a garlic butter that was good. No wow factor to the desserts. We spent $25 on an Uber to get there only to be told at 7:45 at night that they're not "taking names" anymore and she was turning people away. The service here is amazing- on a peak season, Sat night dinner, with my tired 4 yr old son, they were attentive and patient. Saw this w/ other families. The only weird thing is they seated us in the sun despite a bunch of empty tables. When I mentioned the sun, instead of quickly offering to move us, the hostess said "It's going down soon..." and tipped the umbrella. Anyway- I didn't insist, and should have. We had calamari and oyster apps, which were huge and beautifully presented. Calamari came with Asian sauce which struck me as odd. The texture was nice but there was no seasoning whatsoever. I doused them repeatedly in lemon, salt and pepper and still no time satisfied. My date felt the same re oysters. Good news: we were so full we skipped the entree, and split a nice spinach salad. My 3 stars reflect the value for price. A $13 appetizer should jump flavorfully into my mouth, ya know? Next time I'll read yelp and get lobstah sandwich. I would def come back here... read more

Seagrass Restaurant is a cute place in the charming shore town of Ocean Grove. It offers an interesting menu and creative seasonal specials. I dined here with a friend and we both started with their mushroom artichoke soup. It was a little bland for my taste but it was still very good. My friend had the roasted salmon over quinoa. She raved about it several times that evening. I had the tempura soft-shell crab served over a spinach salad with edamame, cucumbers and an asian vinaigrette. Light and fresh. We shared their linzertorte. It was the shining star! The almond and raspberry were the perfect combination and it wasn't too sweet like others I've had. This is one of the best restaurants in the shore towns in Monmouth County. The fish is always super fresh and prepared in creative ways. The halibut is cooked to perfection and served on top of a bed of lobster risotto (which is a meal in itself). I have been here at least five times and they have never had an off night. I talked a few family members into going that had never been here before. They were hesitant, not thinking they liked the menu that was posted online. They ended up absolutely loving the place and can't wait to go back. Jeanette is a fabulous waitress whom I've had the pleasure of serving me on numerous occasions. My daughter loves the duck here also and claims it is the best duck that she has ever had. Try the warm calamari salad, you won't be disappointed. If you expect to be able to enjoy your dinner without feeling rushed out the door from the moment that you are seated after a long wait, don't go to Sea Grass on a Wednesday night when entrees are half price. We were a party of four who shared menus and were asked if we were ready to order within minutes of being seated. In the middle of attempting to eat our appetizers our server asked if we would like the appetizers to be packed up. This has never happened to me in any restaurant! It was obvious that we were still eating. Although my friend and I requested tuna rare, it was served medium rare. Immediately after our main courses were cleared, we were given the bill without even being asked if we wanted coffee or dessert. This was a belated birthday celebration with special friends who we had previously dined with at Sea Grass. The server begrudgingly gave us a dessert menu and said that they had people waiting and that we should be quick! We had waited about a half hour to get a table. Customers seated prior to our arrival were still enjoying their meals but obviously were not being asked to hurry because people were waiting. My friends spoke to one of the owners. The server lied and said that she had offered us dessert. Perhaps she forgot that was AFTER I requested a dessert menu. What should have been a celebration was a terrible dining experience due to a server whose ONLY concern was to get as many customers at her tables as quickly as she could with no regard for the time it takes people to eat food. Half price or not, customers are not obligated to choke on their food. This is not an inexpensive restaurant. Customers should NEVER be treated as if they are dining at a fast food establishment. I have never experienced a lack of consideration as a customer in any other restaurant, in this country or overseas, as I experienced tonight. Great food, service and atmosphere. Our waitress Sam was sweet and efficient. She made great recommendations and when we told her we were going to share our entrees she had them both split and served us a plate of each. The oysters onnhalf shell with the house vinaigrette were fresh and delicious. Both the ahi tuna and Halibut over lobster risotto were fantastic but the lobster risotto was just ridiculously amazing. I have been coming here for 5 years about four times per year in the summer months The food is great The prices have increased generously over the years and it is very busy now Last time I mis calculated the tip and tipped 13 percent by mistake and was basically chased by the Waitress if something was wrong I did know that I mis tipped so I said no everything's Fine I tried to go the restroom before I left but they were occupied so I as I was leaving I was approached again letting me know that I did not tip the 15 percent Which I always calculate the 15 percent and round it of to the nearest 5 I felt embarrassed and will never return They are great restaurant all over why should I feel embarrassed when no other place in the world are you obligated to tip read more

Wednesday nite visit with friends-who live in OG. Had scallops app very good, oysters ( breaded) w tarter sauce homemade was good. Tuna tartar ok too much sesame oil overpowered the tuna. Mixed review of mussels Entree's: crab cakes excellent with little filler and subtle flavor delish. Avg version of egg plant parm but not real Italian. Had a really nice birthday dinner for my wife with out teenage kids. The menu was extended pretty significantly with specials but we didn't take advantage of them. Calamari with sweetened spay sauce was wonderful. My son, the calamari expert says it was the best. My wife had the bisque; it was very flavorful but had begun to separate. Everyone agreed my Chowdah was better. My son had an very good fish and chips that wasn't on the menu. I had the swordfish over jasmine rice and my wife had the halibut over lobster risotto. The swordfish was excellent and the coconut curry was really interesting and different. I might have preferred a little spice in it, but I enjoyed it as is. The halibut was a little bland but the risotto was quite good. My daughter has the seafood pasta. The best assessment of the night was hers "there's barely any pasta in this" as it was so stuffed with seafood. We went to town on the desserts with 2 Lava Cakes, an Apple Galette and a key Lime pie; all were delicious. Overall it was pretty pricy but good for a special night out. One reason we come back to Ocean Grove each summer is to eat at Sea Grass. We love the Caesar salad, seafood pasta, seared scallops, and carrot cake ... and we've tried just about everything else on the menu and loved it all! While visiting Ocean Grove for the first time, our cousin recommended this restaurant, & we were not disappointed! We ordered the hot cheese dip with smoked Gouda & aged cheddar, escargot, & the ahi tuna tartare as appetizers. All were good, but the tuna was our favorite. Entrees were all fantastic - seafood pasta, lobster BLT, Cajun swordfish, & seared scallops with risotto. Portions are huge! Also since the town is dry, it's BYOB, so we brought a bottle of wine & they provided us an ice bucket for us. We really enjoyed SeaGrass & will return again next time we visit! read more

Great restaurant and great staff. We had a wonderful dinner at Sea Grass this evening. We enjoyed the warm calamari salad beyond enough for two to share. My wife had the seafood pasta and I had the ahi tuna. All tasted fantastic and were prepared to perfection. This place has potential but I don't think they are ready for the summer crowds. Waited 2 hours for our entrees. When the food did arrive the risotto was way undercooked, although the scallops were cooked decently well. They then attempted 4 times to collect our plates right after we were served... we were still eating. Our server was nice but another waitress was incredibly nasty. Atmosphere of eating outside at SeaGrass is great -- how could it not be in Ocean Grove on a quiet July Monday night? But food was mixed. The seared mahi mahi ($28) was dry, and server said no one else has had an issue with it and she suggested dryness isn't surprising since seasoning is mostly just basil oil. I'm not familiar with mahi mahi, but I find it dubious that it can't be cooked and still be moist. It was my mistake for not saying anything until paying the check; I should have sent it back after my girlfriend agreed that it was dry. GF had a halibut special ($34?) with a rich sauce and lobster risotto. The dish was delicious though the lobster meat was chewy. Server was very friendly and attentive but always appeared rushed. We do wish we had gotten to try the escargot -- it comes with puff pastry and looked incredible, but we knew our appetites weren't big enough for an appetizer. read more

The appetizers were fantastic - complex and delicious. Unfortunately, the entrees were all quite bland. This would have been a great meal if we'd only ordered appetizers. I almost never use salt or pepper in a restaurant, but I had to use both just to give the halibut some flavor. The only entree at our table that tasted seasoned was the seafood pasta. My boyfriend and I ate here yesterday. At first we were confused as to how this place only had 3.5 stars. Service started out great and food was phenomenal. We ordered the crispy calamari for an appetizer to start. It was really really good, very crispy, just how we like it and the portion was large. They served it with a soy sauce which was a little odd, but still yummy. We placed our orders for dinner and waited. I then saw our waiter bring out the food and noticed she had our order in her hand but she went to a different table, realized it wasn't their food, went back to the kitchen, and it was awhile before she returned and gave us the food.. I called her out on it and she tried to cover it up but ok we had our food. I ordered the lobster BLT and my boyfriend got the stuffed lobster. Both entrees exceeded our expectations. One of the staff came and took our finished plates and then we waited, and waited, and waited for our server to return so we could ask for the check . We gave her the card and then it was Atleast another 10-15 minutes to wait for her to come back with it. Meanwhile the hostess is standing pretty much right next to our table waiting for us to finish so she could seat another couple. It was busy so maybe it could be more efficient with more staff. I didn't find the outside hostess to be very friendly either. I asked how long the wait was for a table and got an eye roll. read more

Dinner Nightmare To the owners of Seagrass Three friends and I have been frequent diners at Seagrass virtually from the time the restaurant opened many years ago . We go there regularly for the fine food, great service and pleasant ambiance. We've enjoyed many satisfying lunches and dinners and have recommend many people to do so as well. That changed last Thursday evening, March14,2019. We came to celebrate a friend's birthday. It was an ugly experience that turned into a nightmare. It was something that we have never experienced or witnessed in a restaurant in all the years we have been dining out. Upon gathering for this special occasion one of the ladies in our group was literally accosted by Rhonda ,the Manager. Our friend was subjected to loud, rude unprofessional and inappropriate verbal abuse. It appeared that Rhonda believed , and Rhonda was not there, that our friend had dined there the Thursday before, which she did with her husband, and questioned some of the menu choices on the price fixed menu which were spicy. Rhonda apparently perceived our friends menu concerns to be racist and called her a racist which she is certainly NOT! As a result, Rhonda took this opportunity to lace into our friend in a loud threatening manner which the entire restaurant heard and bore witness to. In addition, Rhonda told her for all to hear that she was not welcome at Seagrass and she could leave. Sadly, as we were in shock, we opted to stay through dinner and the birthday dinner was completely ruined. We could simply never come back to Seagrass. You will also lose all the people we have and would have recommended. We have decided to inform you of this unfortunate incident in the event that you are unaware of what happened. We are sorry that our association had to end on such a sour note. We hope that this incident concerns you and that you handle it in the appropriate manner. Thank you. It is November, and Sea Grass has started their half price Wednesday menu. A great bargain, and unbelievable value for one of the best seafood in the area. I had the Baked Cod, delicious. My better half enjoyed the Day Boat scallops. The table next to us had the Lamb Chops, a future order for next time I am there. Gets crowded, but 2 entries and we split a dessert for under $50 including tip, and don't forget the tip goes on the full price not the discounted meal! We will be back. read more
