So glad we chose to check out this spot. We arrived at opening and sat upstairs which was a little warm but otherwise nice area. The servers were very accommodating and helpful when asking about particular menu items. We ordered the irish beef stew, stuffed cabbage rolls, fish and chips, tater tot poutine, and a kids mac and cheese. They definitely dont slouch in portion sizing we left with 2 full togo containers. The flavors on everything were fantastic. The poutine was better than some spots we had in Toronto, the cabbage rolls were like mini meatloafs inside and flavored well. The mac and cheese hit the spot especially with our 1 year old. The stew was a little runny but flavorwise fantastic. Overall great experience will be making another trip, well done! read more

I met up with a friend that I hadn't seen in a while to have some light fare and to catch up. The experience was overall pleasant, but did had some drawbacks, which I'll detail for you, gentle reader. Sean Bolan's is located on Main Street in Bel Air in the space formerly occupied by the somewhat well-known among Harford Countians as "The Georgetown North", which was a popular restaurant for decades. It is now an Irish-themed bar, having been in existence for about 15 years now. It was pretty busy on the early Wednesday evening I was there. There's parking in the back off Bond Street with a rear entrance which is nice. The inside is inviting and more intimate than not, with the bar up front and assorted tables in the back. There is also an upstairs seating area. Evidently there's an outdoor balcony as well, but I didn't investigate since as I've always said, only animals should eat outdoors. I took a small four-top table in the rear and was immediately greeted by a very pleasant server. In fact, interacting with all three servers who were on at the time was great, as they were all extremely friendly and helpful. I got menus from one of them, and a couple waters while I waited for my friend to arrive. The first thing I noticed right away was the disgusting condition of the table top. The thick layer of sticky grease built up from years of no cleaning meeting my forearms was unbearable. This is what happens when you just lazily wipe down tables with a wet rag and no cleanser. It was seriously comically bad. The ladies at the table next to me both mentioned it as I eavesdropped. Note to management: Come in one night with scrubbing pads and Bon Ami and scrub those tables down!!!! Seriously, no joke, disgusting is the only word I can come up with. (Note to owner--- No kidding, you got to fix this, it's fuckin gross.) We didn't order alcohol so I cannot comment on that, but we did order two apps and an entrée to share. We started off with the Old Bay wings (ten for $16). To me, these were small and very overcooked to the point of being burned practically. It was very much like just eating overcooked, leather-like chicken skin off the bones. In addition, there was WAY too much Old Bay on them. I felt like I was eating it out of the can. We shared this appetizer of only ten wings between the two of us and actually left two of them on the plate, which should tell you something about how unappetizing they were. I have better ways of spending $16. I should have sent these back, and I would have had it been just me alone, but I didn't want my buddy to think I was an asshole. Now, had it been my regular dining companion, Mr. X, as a lot of you who follow my reviews know he would have sent that shit back faster than you can say "I like to leave reviews a lot". Next came the fried cheese curd sticks ($12). These actually had a good taste, but the execution was a failure. The plate consists of four "hand cut" cheese curds, Panko breaded, and deep fried, and served over marinara. The idea is good, but the result was not. What happens is that as soon as you cut into a cheese stick with your fork, the curd-- which has completely melted-- runs out on to your plate making a cheese sauce puddle and leaving just a breading shell. It's messy and annoying to eat. You need a firmer cheese like mozzarella to do this, the soft curds just can't hold up, it being much better used a topping on things like fries and gravy. The marinara sauce was good though. We also ordered the stuffed cabbage rolls entrée ($16) and it was fantastic. The menu describes it thusly: "Seasoned angus (sic) beef mixed with onions, garlic, and rice and wrapped in cabbage leaves, topped with fresh mozzarella and baked in a savory tomato sauce and served with 'Irish Champ' ", which is basically a fancy name for mashed potatoes made with thyme and onions mixed in. Although the potatoes (which are oddly hidden inside the dish instead of being placed in a bowl beside separately) were fairly runny because of their placement under the marinara sauce, the dish was still very good and I'd certainly order it again. Next time though, I'd ask that the potatoes are served in a separate bowl. This entrée was the savior of the evening and for this reason, combined with the very sweet and helpful serving staff, is why my review is a three star instead of a two. Would I return? Overall, probably yes. But those tables need to be cleaned first. I mean come on, subjecting your patrons to that nasty, greasy slime is just ridiculous. tl;dr: If you can get past the greasy, filthy tabletops, it's not terrible. The food is hit or miss, but the super nice waitstaff makes up for a lot of it. Get the stuffed cabbage rolls entrée, but definitely skip the runny fried cheese curd app, and maybe skip also the overcooked, over-seasoned crispy wings. There is off-street parking in the back off Bond Street, with a rear entrance which is nice. read more

The traffic on 95 to Baltimore for our culinary adventure was so bad we diverted to Bel Air Maryland. What a nice find at Sean Bolan's Irish Pub. Great bar setup. A downstairs and an up. We chose up for the view overlooking the town center. My friend had the Banger Sandwich with champ( Irish mashed potatoes) plus a cup of the Irish stew and strangely enough for an Irish pub- a hot soft pretzel. He loved it all. ME: An overflowing bowl of Irish Stew chocked full of lamb pieces, sweet carrots and potatoes. The broth reminded me of a Guinness broth from Dublin. This filled me up like an entree would. The Guineas was poured perfectly and was a nice accompaniment to a nice meal. Service: Very Good. read more

Looked like a fun place with a group but I did take out. Prices were ok but Irish Stew seemed like it had been cooking for days so meat and vegetables were nearly cooked to mush and portion size was unimpressive for the price. Rye bread seemed fresh. Shady/thief bartenders poor management and owner, I Used to go here all the time until one of your bartenders acused me of leaving without tipping on a previous occasion. In front of my friends and other customers. it wasnt true I always leave a good tip. Feeling bad I left an extra 10 for her and when I walked away I expicitly remember leaving a tip on the previous occasion. I was really upset and when I asked to speak with the manager I was told he was busy in the kitchen and to come back later. I came back during the day to speak with the manager or owner the following week but he was too busy to speak with me again. will never visit again under any circumstances. Update the owner has reached out to me to appologize and offer me a free drink on the house. I declined and asked for my $10 to be reimbursed. He ignored my request and has not responded. read more

We got the walleye and ribeye specials tonight, along with the lamb burger. all were excellent (really generous lump crab with the walleye) and our service was amazing despite sharing our waitress (Ellie) with a large table of homecoming highschoolers In their sparkly dresses! Love the variety of food that this kitchen consistently manages to put out with such attention to balancing flavors. I have come here several times and I have loved it several times. Parking is street parking since this place is kind of hidden off Main Street in Bel Air area. But given certain times at night it should be free, just have to get lucky for close parking during winter. I loved their prime rib, wings, poutine, and seafood chowder. Can't really go wrong with this place if you want some Irish Pub style food. Definitely coming back one way or another. read more

Grabbed a high top in the bar area. Alex came right over and took our drink order. W Smithwicks delivered to the table, poured to the rim. Ordered Irish Rolls, delivered quickly, piping hot and very tasty. Our main courses were delivered quickly. What a wonderful restaurant. My first visit and it was very nice. I love the way its setup. Nice upstairs and downstairs. I had the Irish Roll as an appetizer and that was two rolls cut in half filled with deliciously seasoned cabbage and beef. Then I ordered steak and cake. The steak was once again seasoned, seared and served perfectly. The brussel sprouts (vegetable of the day) were superb. And Monica was excellent wait staff. I have nothing but positive thoughts about tonights visit. Oh my sis had the Herb Chicken in a fabulous gravy (I cannot remember the name) but she is super picky and she loved her food. So last 2 times I have been have not been great. You get ignored in favor of regulars at the bar. I waited about 8 minutes and never got a drink or food...left out of frustration instead of going to a table that had a waitress. Stew last time was good but they have increased the amount of carrot filler a lot compared to how the stew was from 2006 to 2016. Overall the food is not as good.....chewy steaks, overcooked burgers, cold fries....Not just my experience but my friends. This place used to be the king of Main Street.
