We enjoyed a very nice dining experience at Sea Salt. The service was attentive and timely and the food very well prepared. We would highly recommend the crab- corn soup (on the sweet side due to type of corn used) , the squid ink linguine, and the grilled Bronzino. We came for dinner at 6 on a Monday, as a change of plans. No trouble getting a table. Things were starting to get a little busier by the time we left, but still not crowded. Service was well-trained and friendly but rather intrusive without being particularly attentive. One big positve was that the proper flatware was provided promptly without requests being required. We started with a green salad and a watermelon salad with duck confit. The green salad was adequate but small and too salty. The duck confit was very tasty. Main courses were seafood pasta fra diavolo and scallops au poivre. The pasta got a good comment from my husband. The scallops were tasty but too salty, and quite small; the accompanying cauliflower puree was good. We are in our 60's and no longer are huge eaters, generally preferring quality over quantity. However we did feel a bit underfed. Pros -comfortable chairs, adequate space between tables, and a nice outdoor deck. -acceptable, if not ideal, service -interesting menu Cons -Chef has WAY too heavy a hand with the salt -Expensive relative to what you get. read more

So.....woke up decided to go next door for breakfast...ps....only till 11am....we arrived at 10:50...my sister ordered an omelet filled with: carmelized onions, ham,goat cheese. It saddens me to write this review about the decline in the quality of food at Sea Salt. We've been coming here several times every summer and enjoying cocktails and several shared appetizers. Up until last night the food was always above average and simply delicious. Last night that all changed as the food was not good at all. The signature Baby Back Ribs were totally changed - the sauce was different, the ribs were big (not baby backs), and the meat was tough and gristly. In the Grilled Octopus Salad the highlight was the arugula greens while the octopus was tasteless. The Seafood Ceviche was one of the worst I've ever had and the presentation did nothing to help. The only saving point of the evening was the Ocean Club Cocktail, which thankfully hasn't changed. But something is seriously wrong in the kitchen. We won't be back this summer unless that is fixed. read more

The 4 of us friends had a wonderful evening. The wait staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and laughed at our jokes. Food was fresh and tasted SO good! I could make a meal of just appetizers! The Scottish Smoked Salmon melted in my mouth. I found the doneness of the Prawns in garlic and ginger perfect.but I could understand some people finding them overdone. The meat was amazing, both came with mashed potatoes, and a mix of veggies like asparagus, cauliflower, zucchini, and squash. Came here for breakfast on a Sunday and had an absolutely delicious meal. I had the "healthy start" and my husband had the chocolate chip pancakes. Did a five course tasting with wine and it was absolutely worth the money! The menu was full of variety; raw fish, cooked fish, beef, pork, chicken and vegetables. Sure to satisfy any cravings. Fish was fresh and delicious. Nice mix of different flavor combos that left you wanting more. The presentation was also impressive. Portions were perfect; not too much but enough. The wine that paired did compliment food but nothing special. The food was the star and if we did a tasting again would leave the wine out. The service was good; waiter was very new but pretty knowledgeable of dishes and anything he wasn't sure of he would ask and let us know. Must get the halibut with red pepper coulis and fresh vegetables. The scallops, chicken and cauliflower were also very good. And salmon tartare; and i rarely eat salmon. Enjoy modern, sophisticated dining as you feel warm ocean breezes, all while still under cover. With an eclectic contemporary menu and extensive wine list, this is not your fathers's idea of Cape May dining. Our smoked trout in lettuce wrap appetizer was fine and our Arctic char and black squid ink linguini entrees were terrific. Top it off with a strawberry Napoleon and creme brûlée desert and you have a great evening. The team service was initially surprising but was well coordinated, prompt and very courteous. We've been going to Cape May and dining out for years. This year we thought we would try a different place and one our B&B hosts had not tried either -- SeaSalt. The service was excellent and responsive and the meal wonderful. We split a salad and shared a bowl of corn and crab chowder. Both were great. My wife had the Arctic Char and it was prepared to perfection while I had the scallops au poivre and they were wonderful. WE had a table by the window and enjoyed the view. Friendly staff, very good service and food. This was our second visit to Sea Salt and they provided the best meals of our stay both times. Had dinner with my wife (vegetarian - not vegan) while on vacation in Cape May and had a very good meal and dessert. While there is not all that much on the menu for a vegetarian, the chef will prepare a vegetable plate that is excellent. Not quite a balanced meal, but very good none the less and my wife was very happy with her meal. I had the scallops au poivre. In a word, outstanding. Unlike many restaurants, vegetables are treated with a great deal of attention both individually and in terms of how they are paired with the meal. I have had both the ginger creme brûlée and the chocolate flan with strawberries and chili sorbet, both were excellent. Worth a visit. We will certainly go again next time we are in Cape May. read more

Had dinner at sea salt last week. The decor and atmosphere was inviting and had a south beachy vibe. The special cocktails (ocean club $ blood orange Cosmo ) were different and amazing at the same time. We started with the calamari which was spot on. My wife had the scallops and was more satisfied. I had the aged rip eye and it was one of the best steak dinners that I've ever had. I'm not used to a cape may restaurant doing a red meat entree that spot on and filling. We finished off with splitting a banana spring roll that was inventive and a great end to our dining experience. Finally live music and happy servers made the night a one to remember. We had a wonderful dining experience at SeaSalt in Cape May. One word...delicious. The atmosphere was lovely, and the service was excellent...not to mention handsome. We chose to share a soup, salad, and an appetizer. The jersey corn and crab soup was fresh and tasty, and not too heavy. Our fine herb mixed green salad was tossed in a flavorful lime pepper dressing. So good! For an appetizer, we had the Scottish smoked salmon. The chive-scented cream cheese was the perfect touch. My main course was the BBQ grilled chicken. So moist and juicy...didn't need my knife to cut it. Loved the sesame-chili dipping sauce, and the Asian slaw on the side was amazing. My mom loved her Halibut, and with the bite she shared with me...I could see why. Had to leave room for dessert...and we were not disappointed. We shared two...the banana spring rolls and three samplings of their homemade ice cream and sorbet. The banana spring roll came with a scoop of burnt honey ice cream...heaven. The blood orange sorbet was fabulous. The drinks were yummy. I enjoyed a mango mojito with my meal and a Godiva martini with dessert. I was so impressed with the presentation of each meal, and even more impressed with the manager and chef...meeting them both at our table was a pleasure. This place is a mixed bag. Some very good food, and some, well, not so much. We were with our two children and had 3 entrees total. To start, we ordered a bottle of wine and the cork broke off in the bottle. The wine was good. The cork, not so much, and probably half a glass was lost to trying to get the cork pieces out of the bottle with no consideration given (not sure if they strained it or not-- they took the bottle away for 5 minutes). Apps were good. Not much can be done differently with crab claws, shrimp and oysters. The Jersey corn and crab soup was very good. We ordered it without Tabasco because of our children, but it would have likely been amazing with it. The menu was limited and almost seemed like they were trying a bit too hard. Main course was where the mixed bag really came in. Pork chops were awesome. Scallop au poivre had very big scallops but underdone and slightly fishy tasting,m. Didn't even bother sending it back because they were seated in a pepper and balsamic based glaze or rub and they would have either recooked them or made a new plate, completely throwing off the meal. I ate maybe half the plate. The cauliflower purée was a bit bland. The third entree was the tuna. My wife prefers hers well done, while I prefer seared. She liked how it was prepared for her taste. The sauce was good. Desert was two servings of sorbet and the banana spring roll with a honey ice cream, which was excellent. The service was very good. The waitress was a very nice young lady and the bus boy was polite and engaged us in conversation that was delightful. Overall, it was average for the price paid. With 20% tip and a $60 bottle of wine, it was well over $300 for 4 people eating 3 entrees. This was a total mixed bag of a meal. Parts very good, other parts no so much. read more

My friends and I visited Sea Salt in June 2015 - we WILL NOT be going back! One of us spent the rest of the night in bed and in the bathroom - a definite sign of some kind of food poisoning! Admittedly, the atmosphere - the music and decor - were spectacular - but God gave us some of those elements being the stunning beach was across the street! The whole grilled fish was very good. HOWEVER, the squid ink pasta - which should be treated with utmost respect - was thoroughly overcooked and slimy. My friend who got ill ate the shrimp cocktail - which looked and tasted like it came out of a test tube. She also had the aged prime rib - it smelled funky and was a disaster - (aged is not supposed to mean old). We had a week old cheesecake which we could hardly stick our forks into! How does that happen?? Obviously, we should have sent almost everything back - but - feeling like we would have been thoroughly embarrassed, we did not. Our mistake. In my humble opinion, and Chef Robert Irvine I"m sure would agree, they would do better by simplifying their menu and serving freshly grilled local fish and veggies. If their meat doesn't sell - instead of calling it aged and charging $50, they should throw it out - or better yet - maybe the chef should eat it! read more

Best dining experience in Cape May! SeaSalt staff were excellent from the moment we walked in the door until we finished our meal. We did the chef tasting menu and the food was phenomenal. The food was in abundance for the price of the tasting menu. The barbecue chicken melted in your mouth and the seafood was very fresh. Service from our server and the other staff was great. They were extremely knowledgeable of all the dishes, very personable, and accommodated to all of our needs. It was a pleasant surprise to have a well trained wait staff compared to some of my recent experiences at Cape May restaurants. Looking forward to my next dinner at SeaSalt! read more

This place really shocked me. Their menu looked and sounded amazing but the food was bland and unsatisfying. Like other reviewers, it was clear that this place was trying to be above the rest and appear bigger and better than it really is. My partner and I came here to see if it should be the location for our wedding reception. HELL NO. I'm so horribly disappointed because there aren't any high end places in Cape May and I thought it was the place. We paid $115 for a meal and that was enjoyed only by the booze we washed it down with. My partner ordered their "signature dish" of Fra Diavlo with squid ink pasta. It was terrible. Usually a Fra Diavlo sauce is spicy and full of flavors of garlic and capers. This tasted like bland canned tomatoes and nothing else. I make better sauce at home that comes out of a jar. At least I throw some red pepper flakes and garlic in their to give it some life! We planned on talking to the manager to talk about booking a space for our after ceremony meal but ended up paying our check and leaving feeling disappointed. I feel like a chump for not speaking up as we signed our checks because we heard another couple complaining about their meals at the same time. They turned their food away and got the bill covered by the manager. This place is not good. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Seriously a waste of money and a cute outfit. read more

Fabulous dinner Sunday night. We had salads (good size) with a lite dressing that started our meal. My wife had the red snapper, again good portion and I had the black sea bass whole fish that was delicious. My wife order a side of califlower that was well worth ordering. My husband and I had the pleasure of dining here with our three kids, ages 15, 13, and 9, on our recent and first visit to Cape May. We asked to see the tasting menu just out of curiosity, as it was stated on the main menu that the entire party should partake if this was ordered (usual for a tasting menu), and we knew our younger two, at least, wouldn't be up for that. Our waitress, however, saw our interest, and soon a manager (at least I believe to be a manager) was at our table explaining that if we wanted, we could in fact order that, and how it could be worked out with the kids' meals (timing-wise). Long story short, 15 year old, husband, and I got the 5 course tasting menu, while our younger two got their choice of a regular meal plus dessert. We were all super happy with the food as well as with the service. I loved that our oldest tried everything, and he liked, or loved, most of it. We shared some tastes with the younger two when they had interest, as well. I loved the variety and care taken with the plating, and the food was delicious! It was a great experience for all. Dessert was awesome (between us all we had a lot of what is on the dessert menu; you can't go wrong!) Tip for a growing teen (or really any person of any age); BBQ chicken was a big hit. He really liked most everything, except for the pureed cauliflower (I loved that, so none was wasted!) Apps and salads; awesome. Seafood; same. Red meats good as well. Attitude and attention from staff, fabulous, and is worth going there, regardless of what you order. Ambiance and view, wonderful. Thank you for a great experience, and for so graciously offering to accommodate us so we could experience the chef's tasting menu and share it with our oldest, who likes telling people about this; he really enjoyed it, too. Edit to add: The tasting menu takes a while, as it is a lot of food. We were there for over two hours. Moves along nicely, we didn't feel any lag-time at all and enjoyed our time there, but if you have young kids and/or fussy eaters please keep this in mind. Let me start by saying I have never in my life sent back a meal. I'm the "suck it up.. you ordered it, you eat it" type. But I couldn't even get through this meal. I was really excited when I saw the Squid Ink Linguine Fra Diavlo on the menu & immediately went for it. They brought it out (after quite a long wait) & it looked awesome! I took my first bite & tried to overlook the disappointment by the horribly bland sauce & suuuuper overcooked noodles. When I think fra diavlo, at the very least I expect a little heat or spice. This had no flavor whatsoever. My partner was unhappy with her meal as well. We didn't complain or send back our food, but we probably should have, as we saw other patrons getting up & leaving. I'm really hoping maybe it was just a really off night for them, but for the price of the bill & quality of the food... I really wouldn't recommend risking it. You'll get a MUCH better meal at a casual spot like Cabanas Beach Bar. read more

Terrible. Food. The corn and crab soup was overly creamy and tasted more of sugar than corn OR crab. The lump crap cakes are DEEP FRIED (returned them without even trying). The calamari was extreemly deep fried, the cauliflower and shallots side even had grease hiding in it! Finally ordered the lobster ravioli as a last ditch effort to eat dinner, ordered it without the butter sauce and it came out completely flavorless! The raviolis were not fresh and the filling was way more ricotta and way less lobster. Even the rolls they brought out before dinner were crap grocery store variety.
