If you're looking for the same old thing, then Sea Salt is not for you. The food is unique and creative and delicious. The decor is lovely, and I highly recommend eating on their deck if you are able (and if weather permits). My husband was obsessed with his scallops and corn and crab soup. I loved my SeaSalt salad and ribeye. All in all, this is a place for people who enjoy good food. A+ read more

This is my first restaurant review ever. The chef should turn in his whites. Crab and corn soup was room temp and tasted like someone used sugar instead of salt.....inedible it was so sweet. Tempura rock shrimp was not tempura or rock shrimp. It looked and tasted like prebreaded frozen baby shrimp. Entree was shrimp on white rice, 1/2 lime, and sauce. Menu read beautifuly. We stayed at Ocean Club Hotel in Cape May and my son has several food allergies so i was concerned, but i called ahead of time and spoke to Ed Roberts, a co-manager there, and he could not have been more knowledgeable, understanding, and accommodating. He made sure that all was arranged ahead of time so that all of my son's meals and treats (great pool-side smoothies!) would be ok for him!!! We could not have enjoyed ourselves more, and we will definitely be returning many times because of the care and accommodations we received! Thank you to Ed Roberts and the entire staff at SeaSalt! Impeccable meal and service. From the cape may oysters to the grilled artic char, scallops au poivre and mocha cheesecake for dessert - everything was perfect and the service was amazing. Our experience overall was positive - we loved the atmosphere of Sea Salt, the decor and the very pleasant, attentive, and knowledgeable, service. Both my husband and I enjoyed the corn & crab chowder; his Char was very good, my Bass was not very good, but the accompanying risotto was excellent. We loved the carmelized cauliflower/shallot side and the sundae dessert. It's in a nice location, right across from the beach in Cape May, I wouldn't bring kids, but we would return as a couple or with friends. read more

My wife and I typically lower our expectations when eating at the shore, but Seasalt set a new low for having a HORRIBLE experience.... We decided to try Seasalt in Cape May as a change of pace and branch out from our normal safe places to eat. When we arrived there for our reservation, the hostess looked at us with a sense of surprise like she didn't know what to do with us. She then proceeded to sit my wife and I next to a table with a number of young children... Even though there were about 15 empty tables. Not our idea for a romantic night out, and asked to be moved to one of the other open tables. We sat at our table for 15 minutes with no menus, no water, and no drinks while the wait staff stood around looking clueless. When we finally got our menus, we thought everything would be ok, but how wrong we were. We sat there for another 15 minutes, with nobody coming to ask us for our order. We stopped one of the bus people asking to get some drinks, and they told us we had to ask our waitress who was no where to be seen. We waited another 5 minutes, and then when we finally decided to just walk out. I could understand waiting if the restaurant was busy, but when the wait staff is just standing around, there's no excuse. Even the nasty looks we were shooting at them didn't change our plight. Another disappointment was looking at the wine list, which consisted of a number of overpriced mediocre wines, some of which were 6-8x what I would expect to pay at the local liquor store. If you're looking for a night out of fine dining, there are much better choices in Cape May. Warning....avoid at all cost. read more

My husband and I visited for the first time while on vacation, and we each had the 5 course chef's tasting menu. It was one of the best meals I've ever had! Well worth the price, more food than you can imagine, and each course just got better and better. What might seem like a lot price wise is well with it! We sat outside, which was beautiful. The service was prompt and easy going, not rushed at all. Each course was prepared to order (even risotto), which allowed some recovery time between courses. Highly recommend! read more

This restaurant gets an A for ambiance and service, B+ for taste, but a C for portions. We ordered the crab and corn soup - it came in a huge bowl, but had about 5 spoonfuls in it. It was more like a sample than a bowl of soup. And my husband only got one piece of crab, while I got about 5. The fish was about the size of a check, cut in two pieces, with a shmear of pea risotto. The risotto was more of a decoration, than a "side". All other sides were a la carte. The crab cakes, aren't really cakes, but crab balls. They don't use jumbo lump, seemed more like backfin, with a lot of breading. I did enjoy my meal, but we will not be going back. read more

My husband and I recently visited this restaurant for dinner. We could not have been more satisfied with our experience. The wait staff was very efficient and all of our needs were met and exceeded. The staff worked together seemlessly to ensure we had everything we wanted, and our glasses never made it past half empty (a pet peeve of mine in other restaurants). We had heard amazing things in regards to the creativity and talent of the chef, so we ordered the chef's tasting menu to have the full experience. We were overwhelmed by not only amount of food but the outstanding quality and presentation of every dish presented to us. The tasting menu allowed us to try 3 appitizers, 2 fish entrees, 2 meat dishes, and 2 desserts. There was not a dish presented to us that we didn't love. The quality of the food as well as the amount we recieved far exceed the price. We will definitely return and can't wait to try more dishes from such a creative, talented chef. read more

The food was pretty good and the service was okay, however when we first arrived we weren't greeted for awhile. There were two people at the host stand and neither acknowledged my party until a few minutes after we arrived. Whoever greets guests at the door is the first impression a guest receives of the restaurant so I feel it is always important to be greeted promptly and with a smile. We didn't get great first impression, but the food and service made up for it. read more

My family has owned and operated a guest home in downtown Cape May for close to 16 years. We eat out on occasion but primary stick to lower end establishments because, Hey, I am done there all the time and it can get pricey. I do however like to try at least 1 new restaurant a summer and it gives me an opportunity to share my experience with our house guests. Unfortunately, my experience at SeaSalt this past weekend was uninspiring to say the least. First lets start with the location, it is several blocks from the downtown hustle bustle so you are committed when you get there. The Ocean Club is beautifully re-modeled and the facility is impeccably clean. We were seated right away with our reservation, which is always a plus in a resort town. The waitress was extremely pleasant although it was very hard to hear her over the room noise. If you are looking for peaceful, quite, romantic dinner spot, this is not the place because of their large open floor plan. Ok Ok, lets get to the food, because this is why we are really here. The menu is small and tries to have an upscale modern creative vibe but it misses the mark. In my opinion, the Menu is limited compared to some of the other restaurants in town and if you are not a seafood lover, I think there were three options, one of which was a $40 Porter house. We order two main dishes and a calamari appetizer. Lets start with that, the calamari was hard and extremely chewy. Pair that with the overly salty sauce, I was disappointed but hey, its Calamari. OH and not a single lemon!!! WHAT!!. Onto the entree, first my girlfriends' prawns, which should have been labeled jump shrimp. The taste was great, pair with a hint of ginger but the rice was lack luster and felt like it was missing something. Now my dish, the special of the night, Blackened cobia, three small cubes of fish came out under cooked and basically raw inside. I asked the waitress how it was supposed to be prepared, to which she needed to ask the Chef. ( mind you, I love to fish and have caught cobia on occasion in Florida and never have I had it raw like that). Medium to Medium-Rare was the answer, but it was cold and raw in the middle.. hmm. I returned the dish because at that point, my date was halfway through her meal and I did not want to eat by myself. Extremely disappointing in the experience and I was really looking forward to the dish. While the location and staff are friendly, the loud and unimaginative menu does not, in my opinion justify the price or the time spent to get there. SeaSalt can probably survive on the Ocean Club guest alone but if you are staying downtown, I would advise you to eat locally. read more

We were lucky enough to have dinner and see the fireworks on July 4th 2015. Given our trip was planned last minute, Ed the manager of the restaurant was kind enough to help with getting us a table on short notice. Words cannot explain how genuine, accommodating, and funny he is. We were seated on the patio outside, and had an incredible view of the fireworks, which made for an amazing and romantic setting. The food and service was truly impeccable and needless to say we will definitely be coming back to visit. Thanks Ed again for making our experience so wonderful. read more

The dinner here is not good (as my previous review---and others' subsequent reviews attest), but the breakfast has potential, mainly because of the location: On a sunny day, you can eat on the deck, which is across from the ocean. That's nice----and the main attraction. The food isn't bad, but I was very disturbed with the uncleanliness of the servers' uniforms. The girls wear ties, and the last couple of times I've been there, the ties were visibly stained----not new stains, either, but set-in stains, as if they had not been laundered for weeks. It actually ruined my appetite to see that. Where is management in all this? Doesn't anyone look at their servers to make sure that they're presentable? This made me question the cleanliness of the kitchen. One of the previous reviewers commented on the fact that this place bills itself as "high end" but is far from it. I agree: Breakfast for two will cost approx. $35 without the tip, and for that, the cleanliness of the servers' uniforms should not be a problem. read more

We loved this place! (The only reason it did not get 5 stars is the deserts were nothing special, seemed frozen with pastry chef on staff.) The atmosphere kills - inside the Ocean Club which is modern décor with white marble and a great outdoor pool-side tiki bar. The restaurant, which operates as an independent business, has an outside section overlooking the Ocean and view is beautiful. The inside felt like a cool South Beach restaurant. Our aps were delicious and both my husband and I loved our fish dishes. The wine list is very reasonable. We ordered a $34 bottle of zinfandel which was incredible and, obviously, a great value. We took a pic of the bottle to order a case. The staff was extremely pleasant and very accommodating to our party which included an infant. The only problem is it is only open seasonally! With aps, entre, deserts, coffee, wine, tax and tip my husband and I paid $120 for two of us. I can't wait to go again. read more

I dined at SeaSalt with my family to celebrate my birthday and was very happy with my decision. My family and I were sat immediately at a window-side table with a great view of the ocean! We decided to go with the four course Chef's Tasting Menu and for $50 each my family and I were able to try 11 of the restaurants best dishes. The food came in waves and I was able to experience a variety of flavors not often experienced in the Cape May area. Our drinks were always full and there was always someone around, be it manager, server, or buss person to provide the service expected from a fine dining establishment. Our server Elise contributed to the fine dining experience with an answer to each of the numerous questions we posed throughout our meal. The Swordfish Puttanesca and the Crème Brulée were among my favorite dishes featured on the Chef's Tasting Menu and are sure to be a part of my next visit. SeaSalt Restaurant is a must when dining in the Cape May area! read more

I dined at SeaSalt with my family on 7/29/13. The atmosphere is modern and relaxing, staff friendly and knowledgeable, and food unique and tasty. Our server, Elise, was outstanding. She recommended I try their mango mojito (virgin). The drink was sweet and refreshing. Bread came out in a timely fashion after we ordered. The Chef sent out a complementary appetizer dish of smoked trout, salmon roe, and pickled beets, on iceberg lettuce. Although this was a dish I did not originally think I would like, it turned out to be very good. The smoked trout was flavorful and a little bit salty-sweet, while the roe, beets, and lettuce provided perfect accents. We had ordered calamari, lobster ravioli, and corn and crab soup as appetizers. The calamari was great, unfortunately I didn't realize until the end of the dish that you have to eat the calamari with the capers and lemon used as seasoning. The lobster ravioli was sweet like molasses and rich, but not too filling. I think the corn and crab soup was my favorite. I would definitely recommend this for anyone visiting SeaSalt. It is a sweet explosion of jersey corn with plenty of jumbo lump crab. Next was entrees. I ordered the Linguini Fra Diablo. The pasta was al dente and the sauce flavorful and very spicy. The squid ink used in the pasta gave it a nice color. We also ordered the ribeye, scallops, and prawns. All were excellent and I would recommend them to anybody. For desert we ordered the creme brûlée, SeaSalt sundae, and lemon sponge cake. The creme brûlée was good and the homemade ginger snaps were excellent. The SeaSalt sundae was also very very good. The lemon sponge cake was slightly sweet, and, because it was made with olive oil, light. It was topped with homemade whipped cream and curd, and fresh blueberries and strawberries. It was paired with blueberry sherbet. This was the perfect finish to an incredible meal. The presentation for all the dishes was artistic and appetizing, the portion size was just right, and the flavors were new and inventive. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Overall it was a great evening out in Cape May. read more

We visited on a Friday evening in July for dinner. The spacious dining room, which is subdued and modern, was half full while the patio facing the ocean filled completely. Started with cocktails- the Cape May Old Fashioned was delicious and unusual while the Mango Mojito was refreshing with a hint of mango. We split the corn and crab soup which was like no other soup I've ever had. First, it's presented beautifully, "pretty as a picture," while all the flavors pleased the senses. It isn't heavy, as one might expect. The lovely manager stopped by and explaIned that no thickening agents are used in it. For entrees we moved on to the scallops, which were mouth watering, and the halibut, which was light, flaky and crispy. Again, presented beautifully. Washed it down with a glass of cold dry Pinot Grigio from the judicious wine list. The wait staff was attentive and informative without being intrusive. For desert we split a delicious molten chocolate cake and substituted vanilla honey ice cream for the raspberry that usually accompanies it. Again, simply mouth watering. All in all, a lovely dining experience by people who try very hard to make it memorable, which it was. A solid four stars, we will return. read more
