I can't believe no one has reviewed this place yet! Though tucked away at the Blackburn Inn, there is plenty of customer parking. There is only seating for 20 inside there is lots of outdoor seating with a wonderful ambience. There are only 4 beer taps but they are well chosen and there is a nice assortment of ciders and other beers in bottles. We loved the BBQ flatbread. Looking forward to a return visit!

    Nice sunny dining

Came for Mother's Day brunch and had a wonderful meal. Everybody liked their food and I liked everybody else's as well.Very attentive and pleasant service, very flavorful gourmet type servings in a bright, open setting. Will come back.

Every dish was as beautiful as it was delicious, and the combinations of flavors were imaginative in ways that continue to surprise us. Staunton is incredibly fortunate to have a chef of Ian's talent in our community. Thank you, Ian and Leslie, and the entire Maude & the Bear team, for the joy, creativity, and hospitality you bring to every meal. You have created something truly special, and we're grateful it's right here in Staunton.

The space is pretty basic and slightly chilly but wasn't very busy so it was easy to hold a conversation. There were a couple of disappointments: duck/sweet potato "kugel" would have benefitted from a bit more contrast. It was rather mushy in texture and needed something to cut through the general sweetness. The lychee 75 cocktail was overly sweet but, upon request, the addition of some club soda helped somewhat. While the pre-dining questions brought up our alpha gal concern and the fact that we were celebrating a birthday, our server didn't seem to understand the restriction (brought soup with "bacon that hadn't been braised in milk") and no birthday wishes were expressed. Honestly, that's not a big deal - we can manage our own dietary restrictions and celebrations - but why bother asking? Course timing was a bit off, but we weren't in any hurry. Water refills were slow. Overall, we do intend to return for the dinner service, so it's a definite thumbs up.

Finally, our drinks were taken by the bar tender and before we could get them we were seated. The drinks were never put in or she just flat ignored us. (We both saw her write the order down.) Our server finally had to re order them, we had now been there 22 minutes with no cocktails. Absurd. Anyway, our server Jerrod was great but everything else was subpar. I've made better scallops in my sleep and the presentation was an absolute train wreck, looked like it had been thrown on the floor and then scooped back up. The charcuterie plate was decent and the locally sourced cheeses were great, especially that Brie. But this place is overrated, at best. I can't recommend it for the price. Pretentious, overpriced and quite boring, not to mention unprofessional.

There are so many options in this lovely town but I made a reservation at Zynodoa because I have been on a farm-to-table kick lately. The servers and hosts were all lovely, interacting with both the guests and each other professionally and amicably. My server Sarah gave me as much attention as anyone else, even though I was the only person dining alone. I ordered the tomato and burrata appetizer. I am not a big raw tomato eater but I knew if these were truly farm-to-table, they would taste good, and they did. The flavor felt like a combination of sunshine and a warm hug! The cheese tasted like a sweet kiss. The portion was substantial, and there was balsamic reduction and a generous amount of coarse pesto. I ate the whole thing! For the main course I ordered the flat iron steak. Because I was traveling and didn't want leftovers, I asked the server for a smaller portion than listed, but either I wasn't clear or it wasn't an option--It's okay, though. I ordered the steak medium rare but it was a shade above rare; again, okay. Sides were good but I added salt. The meal was a bit pricey but probably fair given that it was sourced locally. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the chef is heavy handed on the sauces, which may not be everyone's cup of tea. Oh, I ordered the pinot noir and it was good, smooth, balanced. Overall impression of Zynodoa was it felt like visiting the home of a friend with a garden who loves to cook and share with her friends. The portions were generous and the seasoning was substantial. I highly recommend to anyone visiting Staunton.

The service was EXCELLENT. I swear, our drinks from the bar were at the table before we even ordered them, and they were delicious! The food was pretty good. The kids got penne pasta with marina. It tasted like canned marinara, so I wasn't a fan, but they tore into it! I got the veggie pasta and Brussels sprouts. The sprouts were delicious. The veggie pasta was pretty good, though it could have used an olive oil drizzle. My husband had the bison Burger and liked it. We also got dessert. The peanut butter pie was sooo sweet. The cheesecake was a good cheesecake. I would eat there again.

To the left is a large seating area that I didn't know was there until I went to the restroom. The bar is stunning. We were served by Jennifer. We shared artichoke dip; hubby had the lump crab cake sandwich with a side of coleslaw which he demolished, and I had the Toosday salad--delicious and a huge portion, with fresh pieces of apple, pecan, feta cheese and well prepared grill chicken. Had both the poppyseed and raspberry vinaigrette dressings which complimented the salad. Leftovers for me and no dessert. Great train area as well for train buffs.
