On top of that, the language barrier made it difficult to understand her. Ten minutes later, she called back and it was clear she had been looking at the wrong account and speaking to the wrong person, though she never admitted to her mistake. Only then did she finally confirm my name and date of birth, something she should have done in the first place. Now, I'm seriously considering finding a different office. My prescription for both glasses and contact lenses are clear, and the Optometrist was professional and patient. No problems. However, when it comes to actually getting glasses, I was less than satisfied with the service and quality. I purchased a pair of sunglasses (frame and lenses) from Vision Designs Optometry and found the lenses to be extremely poor quality compared to lenses made with the same prescription from another business. I paid a fee for hi-index lenses because of the magnitude of my prescription, and expected the lenses be thinner and lighter. It was the complete opposite. Additionally, the lenses made me dizzy even after wearing them for a couple of weeks. I brought this up with Sylvia, the optician, and was met with a dismissive attitude. When I asked if she could check if I indeed received the hi-index lenses, her response was, even before looking, "You did because I entered the order." Sylvia started blaming the thickness of the lenses on the large frame, which I confirmed with 3 other opticians that it made not sense. She then agreed to re-make the lenses and shave off some of the thickness. One week later, I got a call that my new lenses were ready (note the first order took about 2 weeks). When I tried on the new lenses, I did not see a difference in the thickness of the lenses, but rather noticed that all they did was mount the lenses forward in the frame. When I tried them on in the store, it was fine. However, after wearing them for about 20-30 minutes, I become dizzy again. I have completely given up on the pair and they are now just sitting in my drawer because I cannot wear them without feeling dizzy. I even question if the lenses were even re-made or if I just got the same lenses back. I really wanted to support this small business as it is in my community. However, between the poor customer service and quality I will be looking for a new optometry business when it is time for me to renew my prescription and get new glasses.

Unfortunately, my interaction with the woman doing the eye exams, Charlie, completely changed the experience for me. I accidentally mixed up the Seal Beach and Long Beach locations when booking. Once I realized on my GPS, I immediately called to let them know I'd be about 10-15 minutes late. I apologized multiple times and even offered to reschedule, but the employee on the phone reassured me it was completely fine and told me to still come in. When I arrived, I was sitting in the lobby filling out paperwork when Charlie came out and loudly said multiple times that she would "rather take the patient that was on time," making it obvious she was referring to me. It was embarrassing and honestly unnecessary, especially after I had already called ahead and offered to reschedule. When she later called me back for the exam, I calmly asked if there was an issue with me being late and again offered to reschedule. Instead of acknowledging how it came across, she became defensive and started rambling. At that point, I no longer felt comfortable continuing the appointment, so I decided to leave. What really confirmed everything for me was that after I walked out and came back in to ask for her name, I overheard her loudly saying, "I wasn't being rude." Clearly the situation was already being discussed the second I left. Instead of accountability, the immediate reaction was defensiveness. And honestly, if conversations about patients are already happening loudly in the lobby, it makes me uncomfortable thinking about how patients may be spoken about behind closed doors. What's really unfortunate is that I waited a week for this appointment. Patients should feel comfortable and respected during medical appointments, not embarrassed in front of a waiting room.
