Food and service are always great. I make sure it stop every time I'm I town. This time I was less than impressed with the terrible music that was being played very loudly. Food was still great along with service. But, please consider changing or turning off the music. It's hard to eat and relax with it playing. read more

I've only been for half-off sushi nights on Mondays and Wednesdays, but I've never been disappointed with my sushi rolls! There are so many to choose from and they're fresh and filling! The staff is kind and helpful. The only thing preventing 5 stars is that it gets pretty busy for dine-in on the half off nights and I'm typically waiting in line (primarily outside) for 20-30 minutes before being seated. It'll be fine in the summer, but not during the cold winter months. read more

I went here recently for lunch with my family and had a good time. Pros- Generous portions for the lunch, quick seating and friendly service, the Korean dishes are delicious! Cons- Drinks are expensive ($6.95 a glass for wine, $1.50 for a can of soda), there was a language barrier with the staff but I experience that at most Asian restaurants (this affected us when trying to get their attention), and the sushi was good but there are plenty of places in Syracuse that are better (Pacific, Tokyo Seoul, Sakana-ya). Overall, decent place to go but not 5 star. read more

Ordered takeout and it was great! Super fast and tasty. Ordered the fried tofu as an appetizer and it was way more than I expected! Great sushi. Staff was helpful and efficient. I will definitely be ordering from here again. read more

The biggest con about this place is the length of time you have to wait for your sushi rolls. I've been here thrice and on all occasions, had to wait longer than most places for my sushi. I already had dinner before coming here but couldn't say no when I walked by and saw that it was 50% off sushi Wednesday. They extended their 1/2 off days to include Monday. I haven't seen a lot of 50% off sushi spots since moving away from Sacramento. They have a whole separate menu for the 50% off sushi. There are a ton of options that range from $3-7. I tried 4 rolls during my 1st visit (Hans, Volcano, and two others I cannot remember) and the total was $22. Their regular menu has a lot of Korean dishes like seafood pancake, Korean BBQ, etc. The service was a little slow. You have to make eye contact or flag down a person in order to get service (whether it's taking your order or getting the check). I thought the rolls were larger than I expected for the price. You get around 6 or more pieces per order. The interior is pretty large and looks like two places conjoined into one. The left side is where the sushi bar is. The interior is casual and features lots of TVs. They sell soju and other fun fruity drinks. For two people, we spent about $35 on 5 rolls during my third visit (the Florida roll had mango in it, the choice roll had a nice sauce). read more

TL;DR: Our waiter got our order wrong THREE times. I still like this restaurant's food though. Came in on sushi half price day, glad that we went. We ordered a bunch of sushi and a Seafood Bim Bim Bap. The "Beaf Bim Bim Bap" was served before the sushi, of course it was a wrong dish, they swapped me with the real Seafood Bimbimbap. Then the sushi came, we ordered Salmon but the other fished replaced the salmon, we were too tired to ask them to change that. Then at last we found out that one of the sushi -- Spider Roll -- we ordered was lost, didn't see it at all. So we told them that we didn't get the spider roll, they then blamed us didn't tell them beforehand. I was really tired of asking them keep coming back to get us the right thing and kinda forget what we ordered cuz there was a lot... So after all it's not so good of an experience but the foods were pretty good. read more

This place used to be amazing and today it was absolutely awful. Went for lunch. Double order of shrimp tempura had literally 4 shrimp and was terrible. Chicken was stringy and tough and the flavor of the food was terrible. So sad because this place was an absolute gem years ago. Not sure it it's under new ownership or I'd this was a one off but terribly disappointing read more

My husband and I decided to try this place after months of saying "let's try this place". It took literally forever for a waiter to come to our table after being seated, we are guessing 20-25 mins. During that time, my husband actually refused to order a meal because he said (and I told him that I will quote him for this) "the menu was hard to read, and nothing looked appetizing (according to the pics associated with each meal)"... I thought he was just being fussy, but we have never been someplace where he has blatantly not wanted to order anything. He did reluctantly order a miso soup and we both agreed that was terrible; he didn't finish it. I, however, ordered the shrimp tempura udon soup. Surely that had to be good, right? It wasn't. I've had udon noodle soup before, and this tasted like bath water. The noodles were good and that was about it. The broth was tasteless, the seafood "pieces" were chewy and flavorless. I ate half (I usually always bring home leftovers!) and didn't box the other half. Disappointing meal for sure; we will not return. I really wanted to like this place! Not sure where all the good reviews came from, but maybe we just ordered the wrong menu options. read more

Some of my Korean friends recommend this place so I decided to give it a try. Not to impressed tho. I've had Korean food at many different restaurants in the states and South Korea as well. This place has the typical home style Korean food with lots of others on the menu making it overly complicated to decide on what to eat. More of a Asian fusion restaurant. The side dishes were mainly 3 spicy fermented dishes like regular kimchi, cucumber kimchi, and white radish as a compliment for Korean spicy chicken. The spicy chicken was disappointing and lacking in flavor and was missing the Korean red sauce called gochujang. Their bulgogi is very good and very well marinated in good ratio to vegetables. Services was pretty slow due to the amount of customers on a busy Saturday night at 9 pm. Do give this restaurant a try tho since this place has items on their menu not found in a traditional authentic Korean restaurant. read more

Amazing Korean food. Very authentic!! I got lucky for being there on Wednesday and my sushi was half off which is unheard of! read more

This place should stay a secret. Waited 10 minutes to be seated at the front. Waited another 15 minutes to take my order. Made a mistake ordering the spicy rolls as the use American mayo for the sauce. We asked for low sodium soy sauce and waiter said it's all low sodium. That's because the soy sauce is refilled with water! Trust me I lived in japan for 3 years. However, the fish tasted good at least and the sushi is half off on Monday's and Wednesday's which is really nice. read more

Wanted to try something I usually don't have so decided to try this place out. I feel like I can't evaluate how good or bad the food is as I don't have much to compare to or knowledge of it. Went with the lunch boxes and there was a lot of food for the price, so can't go wrong with that. I did wish some things were a bit warmer. It was interesting to try new things even though it tasted very foreign to my tastebuds. The sushi was also half off (on Mondays and Wednesday's) so we got the Spider roll and it was alright, not the best. The place could be cleaned up a bit and renovated. The menus were a bit dirty which could be easily wiped. Bathroom was a bit outdated. Service was very good and welcoming. read more

Secret Garden Bl-Won - Korean Near Me - Syracuse, New York

Secret Garden is more of a Korean restaurant than Japanese. This is also one of few Korean places at Syracuse and the food is pretty good by Syracuse standards. I recommend going with 4+ people, so you can order the large hot pot style dishes such as army stew/budae jjigae. The Korean Rice cake, seafood pancake, and glass noodles/Jap Chae all tasted pretty good as well. I will steer away from the sushi, the bento box, and the bi bim bop. Bi bim bop supposes to have a barely cooked/yolky egg on top (google it). So if you ever see bibimbop with fully cooked fried egg, like the ones at Secret garden... DON'T GET IT. In regard to sushi, I just don't like having sushi anywhere inland. If you are not on the coast, don't get too fancy with RAW seafood. The service can be very slow... sometimes you really need to get their attention. Other time, they can be attentive and quick. read more

This is the best Korean food I've had in Syracuse. If you want Korean in the Cuse, this place is the place to be. I can't speak for the Japanese food since I tend to avoid the Japanese food from Korean places like the plague. I would say that it is the best Korean food I've ever had outside Korea, but I have to knock a star off for not having any BBQ equipped tables. All their non BBQ items are "best outside Korea" quality however. As far as I know if you want some Korean BBQ (the meal Koreans and Miguk saram rave about the most) you'll have to head to New York, Baltimore or DC. Dishes I would suggest: Panjee (like a pancake with veggies and meat mixed in) Gum tang (beef bone soup, add a lot of salt and pepper to look like a true Korean) Duk Bulgi (rice cake in spicy sauce) BiBimBap (rice with vegetables, like the big mac for Korea) read more

Wednesdays are half price sushi and half price wine nights... need I say more?? The sushi is delicious and their entrees are amazing too. I highly recommend the sweet potato roll -- tempura fried sweet potato wrapped in rice, YUM! -- and the Venus Roll, which has the most amazing baked tuna on top. The yaki soba stir fry is really good, but really salty. This place is worth every penny. Speaking of, you get 5% off if you pay with cash! TREAT YO'SELF. read more

It's a "Korean-Japanese" restaurant that also serves Thai and Korean/Chinese food... I guess up here there's no niche so they have to try to cater to everyone to stay afloat. With that grind said I think it would be extremely difficult to truly be absolutely great at everything and therefore just eh. Parking can be difficult but you have the next lot over for overspill. It's located next to the Korean supermarket which just has the basics. (Don't expect HMART from NYC/NJ) Wait time- went on Saturday night seemed like few tables were empty but they weren't cleaned right away so we were left standing there waiting till someone was able to clean off the tables. Convenient they had a bucket of $15 wines which some I think maybe valued more than that which was a nice offering. Once seated the waiters brought water and hot tea with utensils and side dishes which were quite basic. Menu: extremely extensive they even had loose laminated pages.... Like stated earlier... Korean.. Japanese.. Chinese..Thai food. It was just too much but lucky for me in this instance since I had a major craving for Beef Tang Soo Yuk and JaJangMyun (Chinese) and my husband had JamPoong- the beef tang soo yuk wasn't as "pineapple" like as I would have preferred, the jajangmyun was almost just bland. The JamPoong though was super flavorful and spicy just the way my husband and I prefer it! I had to ask the waiter for yellow radish to go along with my meal. The price is avg for a Korean restaurant in this area, but they have signs up saying 1/2 price sushi on Mon and Wed. We'll be back again and hopefully we can find something that blows us away! read more

I love this place. the Japanese food is as good as the Korean! I have been several times and thoroughly recommend either the Bulgoggi if you want Korean or if you like Japanese, some of the crispiest and lightest tempura around. the portions are big and the prices reasonable. great friendly service too. read more

This restaurant is pretty tasty and the service was decent during the two times we recently went here. One time for a standard dinner and the other time for Korean BBQ. The first time i had a standard chicken teriyaki which wasn't too shabby and my wife had Chambon which she said was great. As for the Korean BBQ...i was beyond disappointed. While the meat was good quality. it had zero flavor or seasoning and just tasted like meat. That may be their thing but for 70$ for two people i want more. In NYC the beef always has some sort of flavoring such as subtle sweetness or spiced. I would give this place a 3 star on taste but since the waiter was so great with the Korean BBQ it gets a 4. read more

Not too bad for a restaurant with such an extensive menu. The gamjatang had a good amount of pork and flavor was okay. It was a bit salty. The kanpoongi (sweet and spicy fried chicken) was also okay. Only problem was that it didn't taste spicy at all. Only sweet. I wouldn't get these two dishes again but would like to come back and try other things on their menu. read more

Yummy sushi and half off mondays can't beat it! Authentic Asian grocery next door if you want to make Asian food at home.

Unfortunately the sushi here manages to be remarkably flavorless. I've tried the unagi roll, the dragon roll, and the Han's roll, but they all taste the same - not of eel, but just a blandness. The rice that is used for the sushi doesn't always seem fresh, either, resembling refrigerated rice. The Hae Mool Pah Jeon was good, though the sauce for it was lackluster. I do not recommend this place for sushi at all. You'd probably do just as well getting the frozen sushi from Aldi or Walmart. read more

Went for lunch on Veteran's Day, which was also half-price sushi day. It was a mob scene. We sat and waited for a long while after being seated, when a harried, sweaty waiter came to take our order. Midway while speaking with us, he ran off, unexpectedly to speak to the chef. when he returned had to start our order all over again, kind of like Groundhog Day. I should have taken the advice of a fellow yelper who advised against having the sushi. The food was mediocre but plentifull. I had a sushi bento box which included a large helping of salad, Edamame in the pods, two dumplings, A few slices of an interesting fruit or vegetable, not sure what it was, and tasteless sushi. The staff was noisy and inattentive. While we were eating a woman came to the next table to clear it with a cart full of dirty dishes. She proceeded to loudly throw the dirty dishes into the cart from the table. The place could use a sprucing up. I don't think I'll be returning. read more

I really want to give this place a good review. But the service was literally appalling. We waited forever for our food. Our appetizer came after our main dishes (they had completely forgotten). Our Bi Bim Bap didn't come with sauce. We never got our tea. My friend had to ask for rice 5x until they finally came with 5 rices AFTER the rest of us had practically finished eating. The whole experience took about 2 hours for what ended up being 'meh' food. WHAT!? But despite the frankly horrible service/general experience, as a native Californian, I know I'll be back. At the end of the day, I get the most horrible asian food cravings that would make me return to even the worst of asian restaurants. Oh the things I'm willing to do for some Bi Bim Bap.... read more

Secret Garden continues to be my favorite local restaurant! We ordered dinner to go for an 8-person "bubble" last night (lots of testing, quarantining and more testing, folks, to make it happen) and it was amazing! Various sushi rolls, kimchee pancakes, avocado salad, green salad, jop chae, bibim bop, fried rice with chicken...the portions were huge and everything was ready for pickup at the exact time we requested. They brought the bags out and we all feasted at home, plenty of leftovers too. :-) You just can't go wrong with this place! And of course they came with the usual sides: pickled daikon, kimchee, miso soup, spicy peppers. They are unable to make the hot stone pot bibim bop for takeout, for obvious reasons, but will make it cold and you can heat up the rice at home. Still delicious! This was my first time getting curbside takeout from them and they were very helpful and flexible. Highly recommend! read more

Coming from a heavily Korean populated area and then moving here, it's not bad for a Korean restaurant in Syracuse. Tried the Kimchi jaeyook bokkeum and it had good flavor but barely any meat, it was all kimchi. Will probably come back to satisfy my Korean cravings but try another dish. read more

I couldn't tell you what I ate since my best friend ordered for me, but it was outstanding. Some small dish with lots of veggies and rice with an egg on top (bibimbap I think?). It was still cooking when it came out! She said that the veggies in the dish change with whats available each season. I couldn't have been more impressed and the staff was very friendly. My only complaint is the atmosphere. It's very dark, unnecessarily so, and they are playing the local pop station quite loudly. I've heard good things about their half priced sushi, but I haven't really tried it for myself. I'll let you know the next time I go back ;) read more

The appetizer seaweed salad is as good as any I've had anywhere. If you order a garden salad, expect to be disappointed. But, then, why did you order a garden salad in a restaurant such as this? Great food! I was very hesitant at first because I saw a review that complained how slow the service is but I thought why not? We were seated right away and given a hot green tea. My husband ordered two types of sushi, I ordered ddeuboki as an appetizer and spicy pork+squid on a sizzling pan. We also ordered soju and fried ice cream for dessert. Everything was on point! Delicious and was served very quickly! Their kimchi is one of my favorite kimchi I have ever eaten and trust me, I have eaten lots of it. Anyway...the portion was pretty big and my bill came up to around $60. The city that I currently live, the Korean restaurant would charge us $50+ just for ordering two spicy bulgogi. I am telling you guys this so you guys can see how impressed and satisfied I am with the food and the fact that it isn't expensive at all. We will definitely come back to this restaurant! read more

My family and I have been going to Secret Garden for a few years now, it's a definitely a favorite. Whenever we want to go out Secret Garden is in our top 5 every time. Their food is amazing - you have not lived until you've had ! They also do Korean BBQ the proper way, you get to grill the meat fresh. The staff there is wonderful and very helpful, if you're learning Korean and get a Korean waiter many of them are more than happy to talk to you in Korean. :) We also love to walk over to Tous le Jour for dessert (gotta try their bean paste buns)afterwards. Just returned from having dinner at Secret Garden. I wasn't aware that tonight was half-off sushi day (available on Mondays and Wednesdays). I entered and the place was poppin'! Since it was only me, I was seated at the bar. Despite being so busy, my food didn't take too much time (about 10 minutes for a rice cake app and three sushi rolls). I usually don't eat much Korean food, so I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered the rice cake. The rice cake is sauteed with bell peppers, scallions, and onions in a spicy red sauce. It was delicious, however it was fucking spicy. Like real spicy (but of course I don't have much tolerance for spicy Korean food). I drank the entire cup of water before my sushi came out. By then, I was nearly full (don't you hate when that happens?!?!). Moving onto the sushi, I had ordered the Bikini, Dragon, and Spicy Tuna. The Dragon was my favorite of the three, simply because the other two had spicy mayo on top (and this mothereffin mayo was spicy like nobody else's business). So I drank a couple more glasses of water, and bloated up like a blowfish. I would definitely come back here and try some more sushi and the Korean cuisine. If don't like spicy food, don't get the freakin' spicy mayo! read more

I have been eating at Secret Garden for years, and I've NEVER had a bad meal there. Recently I've been getting the Bi Bim Bop which is kind of like Korean fried rice but with a raw egg on top (sounds gross but its amazing).
