Very interesting menu with sushi, traditional Chinese and Hunan food. I decided to try a mix and ordered online - steamed dumplings, mango fried rice and from the Hunan menu spicy fried pork livers. The online ordering indicated 90 minutes and I selected the call option. About 30 minutes later, my dog was going nuts and I saw the delivery man walking around my driveway. I was about to go out and meet him when he called. I'm happy to get the meal sooner rather than later but it would have been very inconvenient if I'd gone out in that 90 minute window as I would have missed the delivery. The food was okay. The steamed dumplings were the winner. Very nice taste. The fried rice was unique but left me feeling very gassy and thirsty the rest of the nice. Unfortunately, the Hunan dish was off the charts spicy. My dining companion who usually can take any spice level couldn't eat more than a few bites before feeling overwhelmed by the spice level. Be warned if it says spicy it really means spicy on their menu. Overall it was just so so. The prices were really high for what we got. I don't think I'd order from there again. read more

I loved this place until recently, when I bought my usual salmon tataki (two orders) and a spider roll. The salmon tataki normal comes on a bed of shredded carrots, or parsnips, except this time the amount of salmon was half the normal portion and it was on about a tablespoon and a half of shredded carrots, instead of the usual (approximately one cup). They had also put tons of wasabi and pickled ginger in the container, which took up almost all the room in the container. The salmon tataki never comes with pickled ginger or wasabi, it is eaten with ponzi sauce. I called and spoke to the owner and instead of apologizing or offering to make it up to me, he proceeded to yell at and argue with me. He told me that he was a sushi chef from Japan and owned three restaurants. I don't know what this had to do with my issue, but I guess I was supposed to fall on me knees in awe. He insisted that the salmon and carrots were seasonal, although I just got it two days prior and it was the normal portions. I told him that I could always take my business elsewhere and he told me to go ahead, so I am planning on it. He was rude, entitled and aggressive. The Good: The Bartender and drinks were great! The Bad: The Sushi, not good at all, the seaweed salad was good but the other stuff not so much! This place can't compare to Oye's or the Mandarin in Reading. Go there instead! Sei Bar is a very confused restaurant. I went here for lunch and had a lunch special if teriyaki chicken. The food was fair and unremarkable. The atmosphere is very nice on the inside (think hip, retro 70s/80s) while the outside is devoid of personality. It has a nice view of Shaw's and Wakefield Concrete. Service was decent and pleasant. The most authentic Hunan restaurant I had in Boston. They make their own cured meat and smoked tofu which are super delicious. Yes, you will need to wait for the food but that means all the dishes are cooked on site. They also did a great job with dishes with organs such as liver and kidneys! I'm really surprised this place isn't busier! It is kind of tucked away on a side street just outside of downtown Wakefield, but it is definitely the best sushi destination in town. We go here a lot, and the waitress/bartender is very nice and always remembers what we like to order. I really like the chairs and tables in the lounge area, and the whole bar/lounge is a great area to watch the game and enjoy some sushi. The chef/owner, is a renowned Japanese chef from what I understand, and we've talked to him a couple of times and he is quite knowledgable about the different fishes. We always get the scallion pancake, and usually a sashimi deluxe and you definitely can't go wrong with those. Great choice for Japanese/Thai in Wakefield amongst a throng of other choices in town. Service has always been super attentive and I find myself craving the Gyoza every time I see their sign. The parking is always the real issue...there are just a few on street spots out front or across the street so there have been a few times we tried to go and their simply wasn't anywhere to park...not sure of a solution for them. read more

They have one menu for non Chinese and one for Chinese. These menus are very different. - 擂辣椒皮蛋 Grilled Pepper w. Preserved Duck Egg：Even though it has 3 pepper signs, it's not that spicy. This one tastes better than I expected. The preserved duck egg flavor is minimized and that's how I like it. It's better to eat with a spoon as the pepper and eggs are chopped into small pieces. - 湘式爆炒羊肉 Quick-fried Spicy Lamb： This is probably the most spicy dish. It's cooked with cilantro. I like it. - 干锅肥肠 Pork Intestine Dry Pot: Even though it's dry pot, it's not dry. There's some sauce/soup there. I like the taste. The onions and peppers inside it taste good as well. - 糯米蒸排骨 Steamed Sticky Rice w. Pork Ribs: It tastes good and it's good for people who cannot eat spicy food. The corn is sweet. The sticky rice is fully cooked with the flavor from the pork ribs. The port rib quality is different though. Some barely have meat and some have a lot of meat. It'll be great if they use similar size/part of the rib for the dish. - 双椒鱼片 spicy fish filet: The fish is cooked with 2 types of pepper sauce. The red one is more spicy than the other. I would like to give ZERO star if there's one. The food is super salty and super spicy. The amount of the food is very small, but the price of the food is very expensive. The more terrible thing is they mandate Tips as 18% of your total price of your order no matter how much service they provided, how bad service they provided, how many people that you have in your party, how's your mood during that time......You have to give at least 18% of total as tips. If less than that, they will curse you, scold you, and chase you to ask for more tips and insult you. They'll force you to write down at least 18% of total tips before letting you go. This Sei Bar Wakefield Hunan Cuisine is super bad. Super salty, spicy, no other taste. Waitress will have super bad attitude to you and chase you, curse you, scold you, and insult you if you don't give them at least 18% of total as tips. Took over an hour to deliver my food when I opened the bag the soup was spilled, the sauce was spilled, my tempura was soggy and soaked in every way and it was $4 for a less than an 6 oz cup for bubble green tea which btw had no straw to get the bubbles up which was extortion nonetheless! I can go to the mall and pay $5 for a 12- 16 oz bubble tea and the mall is usually overpriced for no reason... At least the tea tasted great... It was the only thing I got to slightly enjoy... I used to go out for sushi all the time in the Cambridge/Somerville/Medford area, so I was beyond thrilled when one of my go-to restaurants opened a new location here in Wakefield. This place has high quality sushi at very reasonable prices. They also offer original rolls and fun appetizers that you can't get anywhere else (I know it sounds weird, but I am a huge fan of the sushi pizza!). We've also been pleased with their Thai offerings. The bar area here is fun and spacious. The actual bar is oversized, so you can order loads of sushi dishes without ever running out of room. If you like sports, the large TVs on both sides are perfect for catching a game, and there are no bad seats. Weirdly the bar is usually pretty quiet. I suspect that since it's not directly on main street, the local "night scene" crowds haven't really discovered it yet. Their loss! The boyfriend and I decided to try a new sushi place last night, and ended up here. We were the only ones in the restaurant, but it was a Monday night, so it wasn't too unusual. Our waitress was adorable and attentive - she was also the one who made us our scorpion bowl...okay, bowlS. We ordered the Love Boat for 2, which came with a wonderful assortment of sashimi, maki, and other little wrapped goodies which I had never had before. The sushi boat was $40 - very reasonably priced for the amount of food we received. At the end of our meal, our waitress surprised us with a complementary Creme Brulee. It was delicious! Went there excited , came out full of anger. There were 7 of us in our family, and we were seat inside with 3 little tables put together. We asked if we could have the round table near the door. The waitress was nice to ask the manager, but she came back saying the minimum for that table is 7 adults.However , the maximum seats for that table I see is 7, it was Saturday noon, they need to save that for other bigger group. We have 4 adults and 2 teenager and 15 months old baby. don't teenage boys eat more than adult women ? I told them that the table is not big enough to put all our orders! They still refused to give us that round table. Later I saw they give other groups of two people tables that are two small tables put together. Just because we have two teenage boys , we should live with 3 small tables ? What drives me crazy is that round table was still empty when we left ! I did not eat much because I don't want my in-law to constantly pass the food! The food was ok, not bad. But I don't like how we are treated. I understand they are trying to make money, but we are just trying to have a good meal. We don't care the money. We usually order more food than we eat and take leftover home for dinner. It was a waste of 25 min drive ! What's worse, when the table next to us came after us had all their food ready , we still had two not coming out. I was so angry and decided to cancel it. So happy we decided to try Sei Bar today for lunch. Between the three of us, we had sushi, pad thai and the chicken in red curry. Everything was so fresh, great flavoring and ample portions. Our waitress so was knowledgeable about everything on the menu, had a great sense of humor and made us feel so welcome. Three complaints: it was freezing outside and we needed to keep our coats on for the first 1/3 of our meal. We did ask for them to turn the heat up but she said it was not keeping up for some reason. Second, I ordered the spicy yellowtail maki and it was not spicy enough. I did mention this to the waitress and she said they put a "standard" amount on and I would've needed to ask for it to be extra spicy. Good thing there was enough wasabi! Lastly, I am of the old school that tea should be included but we were charged for our tea (but not the refills). I will definitely go back and highly recommend it for local sushi since there is not enough around. read more

I have been going to Sei Bar since I moved to Wakefield. I have always felt like this place could use a little freshening up, but, the sushi is very good. Usually when I would go there the restaurant would be slow, even at times that would be considered peak times. The last two times I have gone to Sei Bar it has been very busy. I am happy for them but, I have been basically ignored The last time it took forever for someone to wait on me and the waitress couldn't have been ruder ( previously very nice). I felt like I was bothering the wait staff. I decided to give it another shot tonight, hoping it was just a fluke. No, tonight I was flat out ignored until I got up and left. I went to Feng's, great service, food and ambiance. There are too many good sushi restaurants in this area to be ignored. Only reason it's not one star is that the food is good. read more
