I write this FTR only as an uninformed white-guy who knows not what to compare it to, or even what genera of food it is. So feel free to correct me! I'd love to find out what I got wrong. What I do know for a fact is that it's owned by the came people who run the apparently beloved mala xiang gu place up the row, Chilipa. I THINK that this restaurant mainly is, is an outlet for xinjiang style cumin-skewers? But i'm not completely sure. Maybe someone more familiar with this part of china can inform me please... They have two main food options. The first of which is what they call a "bento box" which consist of 6 or so above-average looking prepared (american looking?) chinese food entrees. Looks ok. Looks fast, ready to go. I like that. Didn't try it yet. The second option, and what I think the main draw of this restaurant is that they have maybe 20 different types of skewered meats/veggies between $1.50 to $3.00 ea. I won't remember the whole list, but it's like "Pork" (which is a piece of uncured bacon), Lamb, Chicken wings, Chicken Hearts, Chicken gizzards, "Bejiing Sausage" [which i'm always amazined to see is the most hotdog-like thing i've ever encountered that isn't a hotdog], Prawn (shrimp with delicious brians to suck out), Broccoli, Regular mushrooms, Enoki Mushrooms, Corn cob, Cabbage, Cauliflower? Chives, and two types of sweet bun, a fried and a "BBQ bun" which is grilled. They have others i'm forgetting, as well as some options to get a few whole fish. All of these items are put on the typical bamboo take out skewer, and BBQ'd with a thick coating of a cumin-based spice mixture, and cooked until lightly charred. With advisement from the friendly lady at the register, I got my little spicy powder cup on the side of my food, as opposed to on top. but I look back and I think agreeing to get it on the side was a mistake. I think in all Szechuan and Asian food in general, the heat is am important part of the meal. Next time. I put up a bunch of pictures of the things I got. Food ingredient quality was pretty average, but let me tell you, that cumin crust and the power of a BBQ grill can make any food into something amazingggggg. I've never had anything like it. I only got (lamb, chicken heart, pork, prawn, BBQ bun, broccoli, enoki mushroom, chives, fried bun). Everything was absolutely crusted with cumin which was both overwhelming and delicious. Once I finally caught on and put some of the spicy powder on my food it improved substantially. My favorites were the Fried Sweet bun, Broccoli, the chicken hearts (which were delightfully un-minerally for organ meat..) and the Shrimp. The shrimps' brains were amazing. The lamb I got was good. The meat was tender, and not cut fro ma lean section. There was some fat keeping it awesome right on the skewer. Cumin went with the lamb like crazy., but with the spice cooked in I bet it would have been really amazing. Next time, I am going to try the rest of the things I didn't get. I should get the lamb again with the spice on it I saw someone after me got the corn cob, and I realized I should have gotten that too, it looked superb. Everything was very tender and good, but I kind of had all these different neat skewers and felt like I hadn't actually had a meal. I got everything togo, and while it didn't present in the pictures super well, the packing job they did was super secure, and leak free for my walk back to the office. I really liked the place! But I'm still trying to figure out what to make of it. I hope it stays busy! Regionally based sub-generas of Sichuan food can be esoteric, even for awesome super88. I was thinking that about Chilipa when it opened, which is now continually busy all day. I'm sure this one will work out as well.

Shanghai Classic Pork Pan-Fried Buns上海生煎饅頭: I was instantly hooked! It's hard to imagine finding such good pan-fried buns in the US. Almost every table ordered them, so they were all freshly made, piping hot. The bun was made with unleavened dough, making it chewy and refreshing, with a light, crispy bottom--not oily or hard. The meat filling was substantial and tender, with plenty of broth (see picture). It was sweeter than salty, incredibly umami. The chili oil was also very fragrant, and dipping it in Zhenjiang vinegar enhanced the flavor and cut through the greasiness. Shredded Pork & Preserved Vegetable Noodle Soup雪菜肉絲麵: The noodles were thin and round, with a soft, mushy texture. While the noodles were clearly machine-made, this isn't a problem in the Yangtze River Delta region; the issue was likely overcooking. The shredded pork were well-stirred, with tender meat, but the noodles lacked flavor. They had to be eaten with the pickled mustard greens雪菜 to be slightly salty, and the umami flavor was severely diluted. The tableware is all disposable, and tipping is not mandatory. It's quite affordable.

They come out piping hot and fresh, and can kind of be hazardous if you bite into them too quickly and cause the soup to spurt out. I don't think I've had better ones in the states! In fact, even in Shanghai, it's kind of hard to find good ones sometimes (at least ones that serve them all day and not just for breakfast). It's more of a takeout place as it's rather small, but the interior is clean and bright.

The chain seems to focus on Canton rice noodle rolls. Opted for the beef brisket lo mien and it came out quick. The highlight was the generous portion of beef brisket that was tender and fatty. This wasn't too sweet! ~$30/head after tax and gratuity for lunch.

Both Cantonese and Mandarin were seamlessly spoken. Shrimp Rice Roll / Egg: It looked very appealing. However, the soy sauce was ridiculously sweet, much sweeter than in China, completely exceeding the standard "umami and sweet" of the authentic Cantonese cheung fun腸粉 (rice roll) soy sauce. The cheung fun skin was somehow overcooked, so some parts without egg at the bottom were soggy from soaking in the soy sauce, making the whole roll quite greasy. I have to admire my culinary acumen: I managed to preserve most of the skin's basic texture with the extra egg. Fortunately, the shrimp were fresh enough, six in a serving, with a crispy texture. Oh well, since I'm in America, it's tolerable. I must say, I would never have come here specifically for this, never in my life. Spending $10+ on a plate of cheung fun after traveling so far, will make me feel more like a sucker than ever before!

Beef and tripe was very well seasoned and no weird taste at all. The duck blood is the best duck blood in Boston, very tender and delicious. The cost of the dishes surprisingly a little bit cheaper than other restaurants. Even though the restaurant was super super busy, a lot of people waiting for a seat, and there was only one server, a very friendly man, we had water refilled and all the dishes arrived quickly. The service was great. Because the food was so good, many people willing to wait for a seat. I love the small busy restaurant kind of ambience. I will definitely go back soon!

The restaurant is much smaller than the Weymouth location, and the menu selection is also different. The server asked me to scan the QR code on the table for the menu, so I'm not sure if they have a paper menu. You can place the order directly via the QR code. I requested one dish to be non-spicy, and they were able to accommodate that. The only thing was that both dishes were a little bit too salty than my liking. I came here during a weekday lunch, and it wasn't super busy. I would return again.

Our server was attentive and replenished our water for the table as soon as they were empty without our even asking. Food 5/5: every dish we ordered represented Sichuan flavors well, especially the spiciness of it! Our favorites were the eggplant with spicy garlic sauce, with the chengdu dry hot chicken and the string beans. The braised beef with Napa cabbage and mapo tofu were also delicious. Ambience 3/5: super loud. It wasn't even the music, it was that people's conversations were bouncing off the walls in a small space such that it was not possible to hear the other people in my group except who I was sitting next to. I saw several dates there and hopefully they could hear each other ok. Drinks: 2/5 overpriced and disappointing. My Negroni was ok but my husband's Manhattan tasted watery like it had been shaken instead of stirred and the melon highball tastes medicine-y. Overall a good experience because we were hungry and the food was amazing. We made up for not hearing each other well by taking an evening stroll and talking as we walked.
