Two Doors, a Window, and One Sad Pooch: The SHI Tale It began with wormholes posing as two sliding glass doors and a window; special California wormholes that allowed heat to pass into the house and cool A/C to pass out, but never the reverse. In winter and colder hours, a young pug used to find the lit spot cast by the sun on the carpet and warm himself. It was decided that something ought to be done. I can't remember the name of the first guy, so we'll call him Q, 'cause he showed up with the suitcase full of gadgets. Inside were Anlin window samples, where we got to see the incredible quality of the frames and the impossible clarity of the double-paned glass. Q described how the gas between the panes refused to pass the heat one to the other, and then demonstrated it with a heat lamp whose heat was hurty until you put your hand on the other side of the glass. We even got to feel the weight and sturdiness of the sliders, which felt like the kind of military-grade rollers you'd see Delta Ops slide on across a wire out a 30th floor window. Blake came next to work out the paperwork. Went through the details step by step, very clear, patient with my slow brain. Likely would and could have torn a phone book in half had we asked him too, but we are sans phone books these days. Blake probably would have worn the Christopher Reeve tights better, but Richard K was the real hero. He handled all the obligatory HOA shenanigans, including paperwork submissions, resubmissions, picture submissions, emails, the inevitable chasing down of HOA personnel for updates and approvals. All done with incredible professionalism, eloquence, and transparency, and requiring little to no effort on our part. It is to Richard that I owe what hair I have left on my head. On the day, Ricardo, Lewis, and Jesus showed up punctually and managed to remove, lug away, and install both sliding glass doors and the window in a single day. This was no small feat, given our Fortress of Wormholes was on the second floor of a wooded condo. They managed to hoist one fully formed glass door frame up and over the back balcony like human DC-9 cats; and the other, I'm relatively certain they broke the laws of physics somehow shimmying up the second set of indoor stairs and snaking around a 90-degree corner. All without a single epithet from any of them. I dropped a few, but that was all in awe of their work and designated as Holy. And the results of Select Home Improvements work installing our Anlin windows? Seriously, nothing short of spectacular. I'd not have thought changing out some clear glass for clear glass would make much difference, but I'm a convert now. The clarity is about that of a mirror on a NASA telescope; the frame seethes superior quality; and living about 200 yards from a busy freeway and 30 feet from a backyard waterfall, the first difference to jump out was how amazingly quiet our home became. Night and day difference. I highly recommend workin' with SHI, and pickin' up the Anlin windows if you can. I've taken part in quite a few contracting projects, and every one has hidden pitfalls, irritants, stress, reworks. The opposite was true in this experience: The process was smooth, well-planned, excellently communicated throughout, and the results are nothing short of brilliant. Very pleased. If I could go back and redo any part, it would be to make sure I had a phone book handy on the day Blake managed to squeeze through our front door. We do have a sad pooch now, who doesn't stay long in the sunny spot on the floor. The light carries no warmth. The temperature wormholes are extinguished. read more

Wow, I'm shocked to see this company only has 3 stars?? I'm an avid yelper and I don't get it, they rocked it! Well I hope this helps as I will never do another job without these guys. This has been a long time coming as not only did I hands down get the most amazing results, but I made a couple friends out of it as well. Amazing company! We sat down with Will Arm aka "Will the Thrill", and he went over everything, detailed explanation's about everything perfectly, gave suggestions on our windows and doors that we had installed, creative ways to pay etc. I shopped all the big dogs out there for 6 months (you know them) and shut the door on all of them as it seems to always be the same result, sales guy was all about the $$ and not the customer. Mr. Will was different, my experience started with him not only ditching the ever so annoying archaic pressure tactic, but this guy even prevented me from buying windows when I didn't need them. I mean for real, as I was about to sign, he stopped me and said "let's check out these with heat lamp before you sign JP" .. and guess what, no need for the windows in that area, I then diverted the funds to a beautiful custom glass wall they put in my bedroom with views that will blow you away. This is only the sales dude so far! Now the crew follows, and in construction you have Aces and Spaces, Aces are rare, but this crew baffled me, the speed and efficiency was crazy! 2-3 days, I had this done cradle to grave. All Aces, over delivered so that crew, wow! I even had to call the next Superstar @Richard Kovach for some follow up items and let me tell you, the only guy I've ever seen thus far who was calling me more than I was calling him. He called just to make sure all was good, he called vendors, he's a follow up machine and he delivers. I'd hire him to run operations at my company in a second. Ricky even came by once and swept and helped the guys work a bit, that's just the kind of guy he is. I really respected that and appreciated his servant leadership. The whole company was good, Danny in scheduling back office, she was there for me with scheduling / financing and I just can't say anything bad. I'm so happy, I've kept my sign out for 2 months with their name on it. Honestly, they can bring anyone here anytime to show off their work. We can't say enough about this company and our windows!!! First of all our windows look amazing! But the looks aren't even the half of it! They sound amazing!! I know that sounds weird but it's true! You don't hear them when you open and close them. The neighbors can't hear the dog's tail hitting them when we come home. The neighbors can't hear us going in and out. And most of all, we can't hear the soccer games and the baseball games going on at the park next door - and here's the best one....we can't hear the freeway noise on the other side! All these years we thought we lived in a pretty quiet neighborhood, it is amazing how much sound we really do have here but these windows completely knock it all out. They are truly amazing!! The team that provided us with these amazing sliders and windows is awesome too! They are all very professional and knowledgeable. Every last person we talked too. From the guy who was walking the neighborhood that came by and asked if we would be interested in talking to someone about getting windows, to Tony who came over after we got out of work and did the initial pitch and brought samples, to Mark who did the measurements and inspection, to Aldo, Alberto and Freddy who did all the work of installing it in under 4 hours!!!! Oh and i can't forget the team that we talked to on the phone, the schedulers, the ordering team and the processors. Not once did we run into any uncertainty or odd little problems where we needed to question this company's standards or ethics. The only real problem we ran into was the threat of rain. And by the newscasters reports it was to be the biggest rain of the month, with torrential down pours, thunder, lightening and flooding. The crew still came over despite the rain in the morning and finished the job. The rain wasn't going to stop them. This crew was dedicated. They were clean workers too! After they were done, you couldn't tell we had any work done to our home. They even put our old blinds back up. Hello originally I gve this company a rave review prior to settling my bill. I will say I am satisified with the work and the crew that provided the service but the company communication needs to be improved. As with most standard contracts I entered into a contractural price for xx,xxx which included a first installment of x,xxx. Their was a change order signed by both parties because of a lower price negotiation that same day which was x,xxx lower than the original price. Upon completion of the work two months later I paid the lower price. The work crew and I spoke with another company rep and the sales person who signed the original documents advising me the lower price was a mistake (mind you two months later) and I was responsible for paying the original higher amount. During that conversation the sales rep continually admitted he made a mistake and appeared to be tearing up while we were talking (extremely unprofessional). Quite obviously I was upset because they didn't honor the change order price saying I was responsible for the sales rep's mistake. They had the contract and mistake for two months and did not bring that to my attention. On advice from an attorney found out I was not responsible for their mistake but the company would execute a mechanics lien. My remedy would be to sue them in civil court which would cost me. I did in fact receive a letter from their attorney. The moral of this story is while I will probably avoid the mechanics lien this company is very unethical. They are refusing to own up to their mistake. I suggest anyone considering this company only speak to one person in the company and the work crew. Too may people in their decision making matrix which adds confusion to the consumer. read more

My wife and I are very pleased with the service and the professional manner that was shown to us when we met Noah Reeve the Senior Marketing Manager to go over the kind of roof that should be put on our many gabled roofs home. Noah brought samples of the materials that would be used on our home and as a retired engineer I was very impressed. The underlayment was top quality. When we saw the materials that would be used and the warranties to stand behind it, we were quite amazed. We then met Bill Stien the Project manager who came to look at the roof before project started. My wife wanted to make sure we were getting the color we wanted, and I wanted to make sure the cool factor was there and the high winds to be able to resist due to our area being known to be visited by many high winds. Bill also introduced us to Sam the project Forman. Sam went out of his way to make sure we saw a actual sample of the color roof we had request, and it was great looking. Sam took photos of his step-by-step prep of the roof before the shingles were put in place. Making sure that trouble areas had a better coving and system than the previous roof. Sam is a perfectionist and shows that he wants to do the job right. He works well with the crew too. They were all hard workers. I appreciate all their hard work and thank them for doing a good job. The new ridge vents are already saving me money, by keeping my attic cooler my heat sensing fan is not having to run as long and as fast. I was also impressed with ow they would clean up the area after they were done every day. They had a big magnet to make sure no nails were left behind. I get at least 1 or 2 calls a week from these contractors that claim to do it all. Wether it be Landscape or Air Conditioning or some New Windows, etc. I almost always say, "No thanks" and hang up. But this time I was greeted with the nicest girl. Professional, friendly, patient, understanding. She really captured my interest. So I went ahead and scheduled a consultation, for paint or a coating actually. I had absolutely no intentions of doing it but I was very curious, as I had listened to presentations of this type of coating a couple of times from other contractors. I was interested in the product but was always put off because the sales rep just, I don't know, irritated me I guess. This time was different. Bryan Wilson was the gentleman that came to present the product to me. I was so impressed by Bryan that I didn't even want to see the the presentation. I just knew that I now was ready to go ahead and take the leap. Hard to say what it was about Bryan that changed my mind about having my house coated this time but I can tell you that he was so likable as a salesman that I wanted to by his product. He made me feel like I was going to get my money's worth, as it is an expensive investment. He made me realize that too, that it is an investment and not a over priced scam. He made me see how much work is involved. He worked with me to help make it more affordable to finance. I just had such a comfortable experience working with Bryan that I truly was left with an anxious excitement in my gut. I never feel that way after making a big purchase. Thanks Bryan. need some work done on your home? these are the guys. I recently was able to realize a dream of replacing the (50+ years?) old windows in my 50+ year old home and a rental unit on the property. a thing I'd been hoping to do for literally decades. my old house was drafty on a good day, a wind tunnel or convection oven on others. I had these guys come out to take a look at my old house, mostly to get yet another estimate and see what they could do for me. they came out, did numerous measurements, assured me they could provide me with new, state of the art windows without destroying my home (stucco, wood, etc. all the things I would normally see during window replacements in other homes). their presentation of their products, recommendations and professionalism really set the mark. the work between the two houses I was having done, there were 11 windows and a sliding door. I was sure it would be a week+ to get it all out, ready and done. done and gone in 2 days!! the work for BOTH! houses was done in just 2 days. their crews were on time, busted their backsides and cleaned up their mess (and even a little of mine) in no time and I was left with brand new, amazing windows for a very fair price. it's quieter, cooler when needed, warmer when needed and don't let the rain in, even when it's storming (unlike the original windows which were pretty much the opposite of all that) HIGHLY recommended! best decision I've made for this old house. read more

Hi praise for SHI staff from Brian, initial sales call, the project managers (of which nearly every one got involved - Ken, Aron, Rick, Mark, Taylor) to the office staff (Nicole). My project involved replacing 9 windows with the Argonne gas Anlin windows, demolishing my unsafe wood deck, installing an Alumawood patio cover and install concrete steps. Since the home was constructed in the 50's, codes have evolved significantly so the SHI team had a lot to deal w/permit wise from the city. The PMs had to make repeated trips to my home to make sure set-asides & measurements complied w/current codes not to mention to the permitting offices and all of our conversations. I have a lot of experience in my occupation w/contractors, I can honestly say I've never had as good an experience as I did w/SHI. They were professional, patient, dependable, knowledgeable and executed well. Each task had a crew specific to the work. Each crew was timely, courteous and completed the task on schedule allowing for normal hiccups (of which there were minimal). Follow up communications have been just as thorough. We wanted to give our home a fresh look and reached out to Select for a quote on painting our home and repairing stucco. Greg Lavender was our salesperson -- he told us his goal was to make our home look 'the very best that it could.' And that is exactly what Select did. Every person at Select provided excellent service and excellent work. Jose the foreman was terrific, he was always available to answer questions and always communicated their schedule. The workers did a phenomenal job on the paint prep, Cool Wall application, and painting our doors and metal gate. They take pride in their work and when we asked for their suggestions they were very honest, gave us options and delivered what they promised. I had bedroom, bath, and dining room windows replaced, and the slider in the living room - with Anlin brand. The crew showed up on the appointment day as planned. The were professional and courteous, and answered the many questions I asked as they worked. They had to call in "reinforcements" to help get the slider frame up over the balcony.., but continued working the rest of the windows without a delay. The reinforcement guys showed up, hoisted the frame below up to the 2 guys on the balcony. Those extra guys actually stayed to finish up the detailing on the windows - caulking, cleaning and finalizing. In total, the entire demo/replacement took about 4 hours. They cleaned everything as they went, and the final cleaning when all was finished. Mark Evans was my Project Manager, and came to do the final "inspection" today. He is very personable, and easy to relate to - very professional and very down to earth. I am amazed at the difference between my old 1979 aluminum windows (that never locked!), and these beautiful Anlin windows. I would definitely recommend Select Home Improvements to my friends! We had Select come out to our home to repair stucco and wood siding, and to paint the entire house. The stucco and wood siding are 40+ years old. The paint was put on the home by the family that sold it to us two years ago. Already the paint was sun-baked and fading. Cesar and his team were able to make the stucco and wood siding look brand new. And, the new paint looks like it was applied by the experts that Cesar and his team are. Clean lines and great coverage. Select even framed our windows and painted the frames to match the trim. We have had multiple neighbors tell us how much better the home looks since Select finished its work. What makes this a five star review is that Cesar and his team kept us apprised of their schedule on a daily basis, and always showed up when they said they would. Their line of work is unpredictable, and things come up. That was much easier to understand when we were constantly kept in the loop. Even still, they finished the job faster than I expected. I recently had all the windows in my home replaced with anlin windows and I was nervous due to the cost. I knew they would look good; however, I cannot tell you HOW good they look. I thought my house looked very nice to start with; however, now there is no comparison. I previously had a garden window in kitchen and the replacement anlin garden window is amazing. It is larger and much strudier. My cats think it is their sunbathing condo. Not only is the product great but so are the installers. My team of three were headed by Sean who was very knowledgable. They took the windows out and put in the new ones in record time and then they added the finishing touches. They cleaned up any mess that was made and did not ruin the flowers in my flower beds. All in all it has been a great experience starting with the salesperson, then the installers and then Richard who answered any question I had. We got our windows and sliding doors upgraded and I can't even begin how painless the process was. We hed privilege of having Richard as our project manager. All I had to do was the things he couldn't do, get our HOA approval. With that said he did contact our HOA as well as the property management company and did what he could and when it came time for my part he not only provided the contact info I needed but instructions on where and how to do it. He saved me so much time not having to go through the HOA rule and procedures. Try them out. I'll buy you lunch if you're not happy after the project. I can't forget to thank Taylor. Taylor as the onsite supervisor. He wasn't there through the whole project but he was there when they had a minor issue and was the one who installed and delivered a small part missing from the screen door. They were actually pretty fast and the only thing that set them back was fitting the sliding door through my door which they managed to do without having to return. all the major work was done in one day. read more

Select Home Improvements provides a "COOL WALL" exterior wall high tech coating. We were convinced about this product for several reasons. 1: Our exterior stucco walls which face south and west would get too hot to touch. Needless to say, our electric bill (even with solar) was very high. Once the coating was applied, our house has remained very cool in spite of 90+ weather outside. We have seen a corresponding reduction in our electric bill. 2: We have a leak somewhere that we have been unable to find. We expect this superior grade coating will eliminate it as well. We had several large and deep cracks in our stucco that that the coating fixed completely. Select Home Improvements staff was well trained, very professional, and paid attention to the details. Communication was excellent. The process requires a certain length of time (nearly four weeks in the case of our large home), but it was well worth it. And it was not inconvenient at all. We would highly recommend the COOL WALL product and Select Home Improvement. read more

Hi, my family just recently took advantage of having all are house's windows and the livingroom slider door replaced with high quality Anlin brand, Del Mar Luxury Series windows by (Select Home Improvements). All we can say at first, WOW, the difference was tremendous! A great guy, Jonhny M. who does sales told us of the perks and he was right. The temperature in our home does not fluctuate uncomfortly any more. along also with the UV rays that heated up the kitchen of are house. We love it. Also now when we go to sleep the noise from outside is dampened causeing a deeper slumber for rest. Wow, just wow. I feel like I have a brand new house! My home was last painted in 2003 and was drab and tired. Paint was faded, peeling, and in some places nonexistent. Add to this some termite damage and wood rot, and it embarrassment on a major scale. The answer was TexCote by Select Home Improvements. Myles H. patiently explained the complete process and benefits versus a "paint job". Power wash, trenching, wood repair/replacement, and other preparation before gorgeous baby blue texture coating with crisp white facia and trim. Everyone knows prep is everything, and so worth it. I have zero construction experience, but witnessed the crew working really hard with great attention to detail. They clean up after each day and respected my house and property.
