Bun Bo #10 Bun Hue / Hue Spicy Noodles
    Will N.

This represents the vegan + Viet overlap so well! I loved the roasted pork execution. It's kind of addictive. The bun bo Hue gets at all the textures going in the traditional version. Not my favorite but I'm glad I tried. The papaya salad is great too. No bathroom in this establishment though.

I LOVE this place. Amazingly delicious vegetarian Vietnamese food. Lotus salad - light, flavorful, and refreshing for the summer. I loved the sweet flavor of the fish sauce and the crunch from the fresh veggies. The only thing though is that I got this medium spicy but it wasn't spicy at all. 4.5/5 Fried spring rolls - Not much to say except these were yummy spring rolls that were fried quite nicely. 4/5 Bun heo quay (no bean sprouts) - I wouldn't say their imitation is the most similar to real pork belly, but I was still very impressed. The crispiness was very nice and airy and the interior "fatty" parts had a nice chewiness like mochi, but also a similar buttery and fatty texture/taste to real pork belly fat. It was flavorful with a slight star anise flavor that's reminiscent of real braised pork belly as well. This is one of the most unique vermicelli bowls I've ever had; each ingredient tasted fresh and amazing separate as well as together. 4.75/5 Stir fried pho - This was full of flavor and tastes like everything I love about pho. I didn't enjoy the vegan meat in this one as much as the pork belly but it was still enjoyable. My favorite was definitely the pieces of mushrooms though. This makes me eager to come back and try the pho soup. 4/5

I'm from Idaho. Came here to try their seasonal dish and their famous banh mi. And I Love it!!!

Phenomenal! I tried the three course prix fixe for two people, which came with an appetizer sampler, two entrees, two drinks, and two portions of flan. The appetizer sampler was beautifully presented and all delicious. The chili tofu had an intensely tart and spicy sauce, the spring and summer rolls were fresh, and the lotus salad was bright and flavorful. The lotus salad was probably my favorite appetizer. For the entrees, the curry pumpkin was my absolute favorite. The root vegetables were all roasted and caramelized, pairing well with the rich and spicy curry. The rice had a nice, almost crumbly texture, which was great. The bun hue was also delicious - a bit spicy, savory, and comforting. It came with a large portion of rice noodles and vegetables. To finish off, the flan was a nice and not too sweet dessert, with nice toasty caramel notes. For drinks, we had the Vietnamese coffee, which was made with oat milk. It was quite good and not too sweet either. The bill came to around $100 with tax and tip, which is pretty reasonable for the huge variety of dishes, large portions, and wonderful taste. I can't wait to come back and try the other dishes.

lotus salad with a side of grilled soy rib and the lemongrass tofu summer rolls

My sister and I had a wonderful experience at Sen Saigon, a vegan Vietnamese spot with a warm, inviting, and casual ambiance. The service model is order at the counter and the staff brings the food to your table once it is ready. We ordered the lotus salad with a side of grilled soy rib, the lemongrass tofu summer rolls, the lemongrass tofu and mushroom banh mi, and the Vietnamese artichoke tea. We genuinely enjoyed everything we tried, but the standout for me was definitely the lotus salad. It was incredibly refreshing and unique, offering a great mix of textures and flavors. We used the provided rice crackers to scoop it up sometimes. I will certainly order it again, though I am curious to try the mango salad next time since it seems to be a similar preparation, but mango instead of lotus roots. The soy rib was thin and I ate it on its own, as I found the salad didn't really need the addition. I would likely skip it on a future visit. The lemongrass tofu summer rolls were also very refreshing, particularly when paired with the peanut hoisin dipping sauce. I enjoyed customizing the sauce with a ratio of about 85% peanut to 15% hoisin for a little kick, though I felt the rolls themselves could have used another herb or vegetable element to round them out, as they were somewhat plain on their own. I still think the rolls are worth ordering, so I might try the vegan sausage, or shredded tofu skin, versions next time. The lemongrass tofu and mushroom banh mi was delicious, featuring a great balance of flavors between the tofu, fresh vegetables, and sauces. Based on this, all of their banh mi options seem worth trying. To round out the meal, the artichoke tea provided a unique umami taste that I appreciated, especially since it is caffeine-free. It was a pretty small cup of tea though. While the prices are a bit on the higher side, the high quality of the food makes it well worth the cost. I look forward to returning to share a salad and explore even more of their summer roll and banh mi varieties.

I had been wanting to try this vegan Vietnamese restaurant for a while and finally found myself in the neighborhood this past Sunday afternoon. This is a very small, very casual establishment with not a lot of tables. The place was packed. I was able to get a table after a very brief wait and the service could not have been better. I enjoyed a very delicious pho, which was fresh and presented beautifully. Note that this is not a fancy place and there is no alcohol but it is a wonderful place to enjoy delicious vegan Vietnamese food with very polite service!

I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. There was an earth day special, and I think my favorite dish I tried was the stir fry pho noodles! I never expected it to taste so good. It was a fast sit down. Theres not a lot of tables so it filled up pretty quickly around 5:30/6 pm

To preface, I'm not vegetarian but tried this spot out due to its good reviews, and verdict... pretty tasty! I'm not a fan of imitation meat products, so I stuck with mushroom and tofu dishes and had a good time with that decision. The bun cha gio was pretty close to the traditional version, and it was nice that everything tasted extra healthy.

SERVICE - located on the border of Chinatown and lower east side - very small interior with seating for groups of 2-4 people - order at counter and then find a seat - interior is cozy with plants and wooden chairs - ambiance good for a casual meal - food served relatively quickly - no restrooms MENU - Vietnamese selection of appetizers and entrees - all vegan/vegetarian - gluten free options available - average price ($17 per person) FOOD - bun cha gio (8/10): rice noodles with fried tofu puffs, bean sprouts, pickled vegetables, spring rolls, fresh herbs, and a side of vegan fish sauce. This is a very refreshing meal with the cooling herbs and the fresh rice noodles. The spring rolls were my favorite part as they were filled with a variety of vegetables and fried so that they were crispy but not oily. I ordered it spicy but on its own it was not very spicy. The chili oil on the table is a dangerous addition: a little goes a long way. Overall a great meal that is satisfying and unique. WOULD I GO BACK?

    vegan duck and bamboo noodles
    Nicole N.

Not a vegan myself but I certainly enjoy vegan and vegetarian-based meals! Given the limited amount of vegan options, let alone places service Viet food, I stopped by Sen Saigon to check out their vegan pho. I actually got myself the vegan duck noodles from their specials. I liked how the bamboo shoots had a crunchier and chewier texture than your typical bamboo shoots featured with ramen. I also enjoyed how the mushrooms were marinated, instead of regular mushrooms. The mock duck went well with the ginger sauce. The noodles were fine, but I wish the broth could be better seasoned and was warmer to cook my sprouts/basil leaves. I got to try my friend's vegan pho and the broth was pretty solid with the star anise and herbacious flavors. The cha gio was very solid!! Loved the crunchy wrapping and the mix of vermicelli and woodear mushroom. They substituted the pork with finely chopped taro, which actually worked! Its a cute, cozy little restaurant with a handful of tables/seats. We ordered at the counter and food came out quick. While vegan pho may not be on the top of my go-to meals, their pho was solid in this context!

Checked out this place after seeing some social media posts about a vegan Vietnamese restaurant. I would to say the place is okay. It's probably high quality if you are vegan, but I am not. I love trying vegan and vegetarian places. The vegan pork belly is actually pretty okay. It's heavy on the star anise, but essentially you're eating bread on bread action so it's kind of like eating a bread sandwich. I do like the idea of vegan pork belly though. The service is great, but I think it misses the mark with regular people

This is such a cute laid back little vegan Vietnamese restaurant. The banh mih is the star but I've since come back to try a few more dishes. The service here is also fast (but not fast food fast) and friendly and the staff seems to actually enjoy eating here. Good amount of traffic in even the middle of the day.

We dropped by again beginning of March and this time with a big group of 8 people. The whole group loved the vegan food here, especially everyone the Banh Mi. Yes we tried all the Banh Mi this time. They were super accommodating and we sat at the restaurant for a long time. They were nice enough not to kick us out :) Missed meeting An and Erik this time.

It just has that something-special quality- there's a good premise (veg/vegan mexican food makes so much sense), nice ambience, extremely yummy drinks, and a solid vibe. I've tried tacos (with vegan chorizo, don't see it on the menu at the moment), a quesadilla, and if I remember right, the fried mushrooms. They were all great - the tacos were amazing. And both times I/we got the churros, which are FIRE - I'm not even a dessert person but I highly highly recommend getting them if you like churros / cinnamon / chocolate at all. This is a lovely spot for a date, friends' hangout, parents in town, but maybe a little small to expect a big group to fit nicely. It was loud but not too loud. Expensive for sure but it feels really nice, not just a regular overpiced spot. And I'm not a vegetarian (neither is my friend), so take that into account.
