The restaurant is in Murray Hill, and it feels like such a great find if you're looking for a really special vegan Korean / Asian-inspired restaurant in Manhattan. The space was super clean, calm, and had a vibe that felt authentic to the cuisine. The staff was also incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and fast, which made the whole experience even better. But the food is what really blew me away. I got the Korean Wild Green Tea First Picked, and it was unreal. Yes, it had that beautiful green tea character, but it was so much more layered than that--smooth, complex, almost naturally sweet, and honestly one of the most memorable teas I've had anywhere. I also ordered the iced matcha latte, and it was easily the best matcha latte I've ever had: no grittiness at all, just incredibly smooth, creamy, and perfectly balanced. We also had the baby dumplings in spicy sauce, popcorn shrimp, fried Manchurian cauliflower, spicy kimchi pancakes, Peking duck baos, and the duck rice bowl. Every single dish was excellent. I'm still baffled by how well they nailed the shrimp texture--seriously impressive. The flavors across the board were rich, creative, and satisfying without feeling heavy. It's often very hard to find restaurants that serve fully vegan Korean food so the fact that this exists is truly special. A lot of items will be vegetarian at best so to be able to have an extensive menu to order from is a treat. My friends and I came here for lunch and were seated fairly quickly in their hip restaurant. I ordered a couple of things: - Combination Pancakes consisting of sweet corn cilantro, scallion & spicy kimchi offerings. This was their take on traditional Korean jeon and I didn't realize they'd bring out so many small pieces for the table. My favorite was definitely the sweet corn cilantro. - Crispy Korean Chili Tofu Lunch Special, which included a soup and salad of the day as well as two additional banchan (including a pancake!) The tofu was fried to sweet perfection and the chili sauce was top notch. There ended up being more than enough food just from this alone. It had been at least a decade since my last visit, and still, everything was as I remembered. Franchia remains a quiet sanctuary in the chaos of midtown, its menu a comforting balance of Korean and pan-Asian vegan classics, lovingly prepared and beautifully plated. The Penang noodles were everything I had hoped they'd be; silky, rich with coconut curry, just the right heat, and generously laced with vegetables and tofu that soaked up the sauce like a sponge. The vegan bulgogi, meanwhile, was deeply satisfying in wholly different ways: smoky from real wok hei, umami, with a chewy texture that mimicked the original surprisingly well, served with a nice little mound of toothsome brown rice. Franchia doesn't chase trends or reinvent itself every few years. It doesn't need to. It simply offers what it always has: peace, nourishment, and an atmosphere that lets you exhale. Early dinner in NYC. First piece of advice-reservations. We were able to snag an early one but they filled up quickly. Understandable why they'd be so busy. They're vegan Korean with a gluten free menu too, so they basically accommodate everyone. And the other guests we saw were a varied group of age and ethnicity so clearly anyone would like it. We started with cocktails made with soju or maybe it's soku? I don't remember. AI describes it as a Japanese liquor like vodka. Our drinks were good regardless. We also got the spring rolls as an appetizer. The "shrimp" was more like krabstick, but pretty good. However, the peanut sauce was amazing and made the appetizer so much better. For entree, I got a gluten-free buckwheat & sweet potato noodle dish. Came with lots of veggies and a delicious brown sauce. I also got their soy-based chick'n. Was disappointed it wasn't mixed in the dish, and since the dish wasn't drowning in sauce, I had to eat some of the protein dry. Don't get be wrong, it was still good, but I probably should have asked for more sauce. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed my food. Pretty sure my wife did, too, though like me, she wasn't blown away and will probably agree with the 4 stars. Excellent, but just not a perfect meal. I was looking forward to eating some creative vegetarian/vegan food, and wasn't disappointed at all after ordering a bunch of things from their menu. We ordered Fried Calamari, Spicy Buffalo Wings, and the Dumplings Combo. The Spicy buffalo wings were unbelievably delicious and were a top pick for our table from their small plates menu. For mains, we got the Curry 'Chicken' (Stone Bowl Rice) and the Mushroom Sizzler - both were pretty good. This order was enough for four adults and it hit the spot. Food taste is just unbelievable. My partner and I visited Franchia during our last trip to NY and were so excited to try their food. HanGawi, their a bit fancier sister restaurant, had been on my radar for so long. Unfortunately, I often don't have time for that kind of sit-down experience when I'm passing through NY. Franchia's more casual (but still very nice!) setting was perfect. We made reservations ahead and were seated very quickly upon arriving. The restaurant is tiered, so there are a few levels of seating. I think we were in the middle floor, which had several tables. We had to opt for pancake sampler, which was really excellent. I am always a sucker for scallion pancakes, so this was very much in my wheelhouse. We also got the Kabocha Bibimbap, which was also quite good. Service throughout the meal was attentive and pleasant. We would definitely like to go back next time we're in NY! read more

Definitely made it easier for my friend as instead of her finding the one option on the menu that is vegan/vegetarian, she can choose from anything available. I didn't have a reservation but you didn't need one as the place was quite big. - Malaysian Chicken Curry - The curry flavor was quite good and I appreciate the amount of cabbage they had in here. Who knew cabbage and curry could go this well together? - Crispy Scallion Pancake - I feel like Korean jeons can usually be vegan, and so I was a bit disappointed by this. The pancake itself was although crispy on the outside, a bit flavorless on the inside. It reminded me of what you would get at a supermarket where you could heat the jeon on a stovetop. - Persimmon Leaf Tea - My friend made an interesting observation, for an Asian restaurant, they were not very ready for sharing food eating style. This tea was a great example of that. Instead of giving us a pot, they served in a teacup with a bottle of hot water on the side for you to pour however much you want, inside the strainer lodged in the teacup. I wish instead, they gave us a teapot with the strainer inside and we can pour the team into our own teacups. - Singaporean Curry Noodles - This noodle was not bad but definitely on the dryer side.
