I've been coming here with my work friends for the past few years, and the staff is totally awesome! They are warm, friendly, and they always remember us - and my order! I highly recommend the uni - always fresh - and their specialty rolls. Unlike some other places, you can totally tell that their fish is fresher and the ladies are always quick to provide recommendations about what is *freshest* for the day. They take great care of their customers, and that's why there is often a line out the door!! It's definitely a lunch place - if you come here during dinner, it will be pretty empty. If you have a large party, call ahead and reserve a table. They're pretty small, and business is so good that I think they should EXPAND!!! read more

I watched Jiro Dreams of Sushi last night and after describing the movie to a coworker, we both ended up craving sushi. Since we work nearby and this place had decent reviews, we came here. First impression, rolls are a little pricey but we said eh, what the heck, let's do it. We ordered two rolls, the tempura combo appetizer, and edamame. When the rolls came out, we were duly impressed. Pretty damn huge and fitting of the price, but as we were eating them, we realized there was a little bit of extra rice padded around the inner roll. We ordered the 49er Roll and the Unagi Special. The 49er Roll was AWESOME. The fish was just heavenly and the roll hit the spot with the wasabi sauce. The Unagi roll was just ehhhh. There was lots of rice around the tempura shrimp and the unagi on top was just okay. Overall impression was that the food was decent (we ended up being overly stuffed) and the service was great. So food = 3 stars and an extra star for the service. FYI, our bill was 45 for lunch...it's a bit much for what we ordered...but my coworker and I are telling ourselves it's worth it because we enjoyed it and hours later, we're still full. read more

I would give this place 3 1/2 stars. The staff is always friendly and fast. Make sure you don't come right at 5pm for the dinner shift. They tend to take a while to get the ball rolling. I came here for sushi rolls, sashimis, and udons. The items on the menu are all very tasty. The portion sizes are not shabby as well. Review is based on a work weekday lunch. This is a tiny, quaint place in a strip mall of other little restaurant joints. We came before the lunch rush, but as soon as 12 PM rolled around the place was full! My coworkers and I ordered the lunch bento boxes, which come with a variation of 2 items + miso soup + salad. I chose the salmon teriyaki and california roll as my 2 items. The bento was decent, but it didn't blow my mind. I think this is a place you'd pay a visit during your lunch break out of convenience and fast service. The service here was methodical, quick, but still attentive. I gave this place another try. This time I waited after the lunch Friday rush to be over. I called it in at 1pm, ordered to go but told them I was going to eat at the restaurant. I walked in, and they were going to give me a menu but I told them I ordered over the phone to dine in, they pointed me at a booth with my sushi waiting for me. They asked if I wanted tea or water, I declined as I brought in my own water flask. I sat down, prayed, and devoured my food. It took me 15 minutes but it would have been shorter if I didn't get a call from sister. I was in and out of there in less than 20 minutes. The technique is come when it's not busy and calling ahead to order. Convenient location but parking is limited. Food are good (Star Wars & salmon nigiri) but not ChaCha good. read more

We were promptly seated and waited upon buy a super pleasant staff who was all smiles... and who even helped me out by allowing me to charge my phone there during our meal. My friends and I got together at this small Japanese restaurant just north of Tasman Drive right across from Samsung Building. Once inside we were greeted very warmly by the server. She gave us tea and we order our food, two bento boxes one for pork and the other for salmon and tempura donburi over rice along with chicken terikayi roll for my other friend. We sat by the front counter watching the chef preparing the meals. Our wait was less than 10 minutes or so we were very lucky that we came in at 11:10. Food was delicious my friend really liked the chicken teriyaki roll. Prices are very reasonable much less than some of pricier ones. Parking not a problem so long it's not around 12 to 1. What I liked about this place is that they speak Japanese so I know they served authentic Japanese food which is a rarity finding one is next to impossible unless you plan to go to Japantown no not the one in San Jose the one in San Francisco or LA. Later we sat outside which is really nice and we plan to come back again. I only wished they were open on weekends that would be great. read more

There's a reason why the first review I've ever written on Yelp is for Sendo Sushi. Two words: PARADISE ROLL. A little background, first. When I am handed the menu in a Japanese restaurant, my mind filters everything out except for the sushi, most notably in places run by non-Japanese (Korean, in Sendo's case), as these have more extensive and elaborate roll selections. Common bento box fare such as tempura, katsu, chicken teriyaki, and plain old California rolls no longer whet my appetite, because for my overly pampered tastebuds, it's all about the freshness of sashimi, the brilliant, often unexpected combination of ingredients in special rolls, and the culinary and artistic ingenuity that goes into creating and presenting these masterpieces. The Paradise Roll is Sendo Sushi's rendition of a roll commonly called the Lion King: raw salmon lovingly arranged atop a crab-and-avocado California roll, blanketed with a mouthwatering secret blend of mildly spicy mayo and unagi sauces, baked in an oven for about ten minutes, and artfully topped with tobiko and chopped green onions. If this sushi diet wouldn't drive me to bankruptcy, a wardrobe three sizes larger than the one I currently possess, and possibly a twelve-step program, I'd be eating this stuff every day. From that first, hot, tasty, fresh-out-of-the-oven bite of Paradise, I was addicted. Friends and family I've introduced to Paradise have become enamored with it. Apparently, it's one of Sendo's most popular rolls. It's _really_ good. Not to say that the rest of their creations don't stack up; much of what I've tried is excellent. I used to order Sendo's Dragon and Spider Rolls exclusively until I discovered Paradise, and I've thoroughly enjoyed the Sexy Bomb (spicy tuna sexiness), Unagi Special (macadamia nuts are an ingenious touch), King Dynamite (a serious explosion of taste on your tongue), and Super Philly. For me, there's no reason to look at any part of the menu aside from the rolls. To add icing to this already wonderful cake, the service here is great! I've been coming to Sendo Sushi for over four years, since I used to work right across the street, and the staff have consistently been friendly and efficient, whether it's during crowded weekday lunch times or the much slower dinner hours. Even before I became a recognizable regular, they've always been super sweet to me and have, on a few occasions, even served food on the house, from grilled saba and a crunchy roll, to fried tofu and a spicy tuna handroll. All around, Sendo has really wonderful and _genuinely_ nice service (perhaps more so if you become a familiar face to the staff) which is a lucky find in any city, in any state. Whenever I crave sushi rolls, I think of Sendo first. I've tried other sushi restaurants (over the weekend, when Sendo is closed and I, pitifully, have no choice) in search of a worthy substitute, but have found none that match the overall quality, variety, and service. It boggles my mind that people have reviewed this restaurant based solely on bento lunches. I'm here to highlight the criminally missed sushi rolls, and since I'm a biased roll addict who has never found any inclination to try the bentos, I'm helping to balance out the bento box reviewing crowd. The biggest downside is the price, of course. Eating sushi is like taking a trip to Vegas; expect your wallet to be much, much lighter than if you had just settled for a "normal" meal. As far as sushi rolls go, the prices at Sendo are average, ranging from $10-$15 per specialty dish, but every penny is worth the quality. I could name other places that boast the same price range or even higher, but the quality of their food doesn't justify the same cost. If you want to sit down for lunch, come before noon to beat the working masses, and be prepared to get comfortable with your neighbors, because the place is... cozy. Otherwise, just drop in for dinner, or call and order your food to go. I've been a loyal roll-loving customer here for several years, thanks primarily to the Paradise Roll. Although the restaurant hired a new sushi chef less than a year ago, the quality remains ever fantastic, so I hope to continue indulging myself here for many, many more years to come. read more

I have been going to Sendo Sushi for several years now. I've been to many other restaurants, but I still find that Sendo Sushi offers the best service and quality. I'm not sure why there are so many bitter and negative reviews here. The waitresses are very hospitable and kind. They give you a warm greeting and will usually try to start a friendly conversation with you if they have time. If you get to know them enough, they may begin to give you free soy beans, miso soup, samples of sushi, and other treats. I have gotten to know the waitresses and I would say that they are very generous and care greatly about making their customers happy. The only problem is that their restaurant is small and there is limited parking. This becomes a huge problem during lunch time. If you come around 12pm-1pm, expect difficult parking and slow service. But you really can't blame the waitresses for trying their best in handling the rush hour, given their circumstances. They may ask you to move, but they ask very nicely and may even compensate you with free appetizers. Still, don't let this problem dissuade you from coming. The portions are generous (especially the bento boxes) and the fish tastes fresh. The food is excellent in general. My favorite orders are the Chicken Teriyaki bento box and the Tiger Roll (fried salmon). And when the staff is not swamped with work, you will get the chance to meet some very friendly people. In regards to pricing, people complaining about the price here shouldn't be eating sushi. Unless you want bland, fast-food quality sushi that is cheap, you should expect sushi to be somewhat pricy. The prices here are decent, especially considering that there are other restaurants that are more expensive and sometimes lack quality. In short, I love this place. I believe that many of the negative reviews here are due to the rush hour chaos.For the best experience, I suggest you come a little earlier or after the rush hour. More like Sendon't Sushi... This place was quite mediocre and even though we knew the reviews weren't great, Vivian D. and I decided to try it out as we needed a place that was close to our work. This place isn't the biggest and I arrived just a few minutes before 12pm, there were only 2 tables left in the house. We ordered the Jimbo Roll and the Sashimi Combo. After she took our order she asked us in a very hard to hear voice if we wanted soup or salad (which I thought was maybe included in the combo). We both picked the salad. We assumed it was free as we noticed everyone else around us had miso soup or salad on their tables (even the people without Bento boxes). Anyhow, right when the salads came out I knew they weren't free as they were a pretty generous portion. We ended up paying $3 for each salad...the Asian in me cringed when I saw the bill. haha. Finding the place wasn't too hard. Small stripmall right on the corner. Found enough parking even on a Friday night around 7pm. Tough to review though. The Good: Big rolls! Unagi special has flavor. Vege Roll flavor too Also the feel of the place, like a hole in the wall with a family feel... is nice. Price is about the same I would get at a more upscale decorated place. The opposite of good (though not bad!) The Rolls are big... is that always the best thing? I like to be able to put a bit size of flavor in my mouth. So, a big roll falls apart when you bite into it. I'm not sure I liked the 49er because of the sauce added to it. I think that a sushi roll should have the basics of rice, seaweed, fish or other inside. Not impressed: Miso soup... it was rather cold. I hope that was just an off day. Potstickers... they had the typical look of being deep fried out of the freezer. Not much flavor as I would have expected from the other reviewers. They tasted the same as in other sushi restaurants I've been to. I'd go back because its close by but I will try other items. We also had the pot stickers and the octopus and cucumber salad. Both were great as well. The only thing that wasn't great was the price. This place isn't cheap. My boyfriend introduced me to this place. Their sushi rolls here are the best! Well priced and fresh fish. If anyone says the rolls are expensive, the price is really good for the quality of the fish and size of the rolls you are receiving. Their dinner special is a really good deal for a big portion of yummy food: the Salmon Kama with Tiger Roll, soup, salad and rice for $12.95. The salmon was well cooked and very juicy. The salmon with the soup, salad, and rice would have been enough, so the tiger roll to me is a bonus. I ended up not finishing all of dinner and took some home. Quite honestly, I have been to countless other sushi roll restaurants around my area, and I have not found another place that has the generous, large sized rolls as Sendo Sushi does! Their sushi rolls are not tiny, bite-sized pieces, like most places! What else is great about this place is the people here. The waitresses and sushi chef are very friendly and warm to the customers. Lunch Bentos, yo. For some reason, there aren't that many Japanese restaurants in the North San Jose/Milpitas area. For a guy like me, on the hunt for that ben-to, this is unacceptable. Luckily Sendo Sushi is here to fill that void, even if they do have their misgivings. I would say Sendo has the most japanese-feeling bento boxes in the area. What I mean by this is that they serve bento boxes with sashimi and salmon teriyaki without an upcharge (I'm looking at you Okayama Express) and their food is actually pretty good. Salad has properly sized lettuce and japanese dressing. Lines always go out the door at lunchtime. However, a few things I was not happy with. Their soy sauce def. had a strange taste to it - I think it needed to be switched out or something because that tainted all the other food I was eating. The tables outside are pretty dirty and the choice of clear glass covering a moldy wooden table with moisture trapped is not the most appetizing sight. The chopsticks used were the lowest quality that you can find, with short splintery wood. Sushi rolls are pretty expensive (one roll costs as much as a 3 item bento) so that's not the best if you tryin' to roll like that. However, when one feels like eating a good japanese bento and can't make it out to Sunnyvale or Japantown in San Jose, Sendo will do. read more

I LOVE this place! I work about a block away, and came here about a year ago for the first time. I've been coming back, probably around once a week on average, ever since! The service is fast and efficient, the servers are friendly, the sushi chefs are awesome (and funny), and the food is always delicious! In the numerous times I've been here, I have never had a problem! Everything always tastes super fresh and tasty. Prices are pretty average for a sushi joint, so no complaints there. I usually sit in and go with 2-3 friends - never really had to wait too long for a table. Also ordered to go, and it's been quick. I have been going to Sendo for years during my SJC visits. They were slow before the Levi stadium was built so stay away during large events at the stadium. Service staff is friendly and they can get overwhelmed at times since they do a pretty significant take out service. We had to flag down the server several times but once we got our order in, the food came out very fast. There are many other similar restaurants in this area but I find that Sendo has the best taste quality. Their sushi rolls are one of the best I have tried. Korean owned Japanese food. These 4 words sum up the entire restaurants and the dining experience. You want me to elaborate a little more? Fine. Food quality is not bad; I like their saba shioyaki, and that's about it. Other dishes such as tempura, sushi, bento boxes, etc., they all feel a little westernized for me. Yes, this restaurant is located in a business area, and yes, their primary clientele are the folks working around here, so perhaps what they serve is just fine. That's ok with me, but in my mind, if you want to do something, you should try your best and take it to the next level. They are always packed for lunch, so they must be doing something right, I just hope they serve a little better food with the kind of prices they charge. read more

Tucked away in a shallow strip mall, I totally enjoyed this after my flight up from LA. The Lucky 7 roll was unique. The 6 pieces were topped with fresh poke and a delicious sauce with slices of onion and jalapeño. Very tasty!! I loved the variety of rolls you could choose from, with clear explanations; not something you get on the menu at all sushi restaurants. I have been a client here for 10 years. Mostly the same staff know me by site. Tempura combo: can't speak to their rolls, I am not a rice fan, but the tempura is always hot and crispy and a variety (dinner) which me and the wife enjoy. She gives me the starchy stuff and I give her my green beans. Nice size shrimp, 3 plump pieces. Salad: lettuce usually fresh, the carrot and red cabbage shreds might be a bit wilted, dressing could use a bit more sesame seasoning. Also comes with soup and rice. Wife sometimes gets the Katsu, which is also consistently good. Potstickers: small, but flavorful meat and always nice and crispy on the outside. Sashimi: I usually get the small and a spicy tuna hand roll. Always fresh, as fresh as you can get this long in from the ocean, never gotten sick in 10 years. The no so good: I really wish they were open on Saturdays. I don't get here often enough for their smiling faces and warm welcome and consistent food, but I have a weird work schedule. Would be here every Sat if they were open to take stuff for work. Lately their soy sauce had taken on a sweet character which I don't enjoy, usually have to add my refrigerator version to cut the sweet somewhat. Service: 5 stars here, but I guess I am considered a reg. I always get greeted by the sushi chef and staff when I walk in but I'm sure non regs do too, but I might get a hug from my fav lady!, lol. These folks work hard and always ask after my wife and the food I've had has always been consistient. I would see them more often if they's be open Sat's! That's the only reason for the 4 stars. I love it here so much and I'm so happy we live so close. I am always happy with the service here and quality of sushi. You get HUGE portions of sashimi , always so so fresh.. The salmon always melts in my mouth. There's a great variety of special rolls too. My favorites are the super Philly roll and Wonder Woman roll, but you really can't go wrong. The ladies here are also so sweet, love them! And for dinner we always get some fresh complimentary fruit for dessert :) It's not really a fancy looking place, but is clean and the sushi is just that good that it doesn't matter.
