This is a tough review to write. I liked the decor and the service at Senior Tequila's but choices for a vegetarian are extremely limited. Tequila's uses lard in their beans and chicken broth in their Spanish rice. All of the limited vegetarian options contained wacky vegetables like cauliflower and carrots. I normally judge a Mexican restaurant by its chili relleno but they didn't have a vegetarian chili relleno. The other key thing I judge a restaurant by is it's chips and salsa. The chips were fresh, tasty and surprisingly strong for their thickness. The salsa was pretty good for as finely chopped as it was. For the most part I prefer chunkier salsa but the flavor was good and they kept the bowls filled. In summary they have a pleasant decor and atmosphere plus good service but very limited vegetarian options. read more

I wrote a review recently, about how the service and food went down hill, and I am writing a follow up, since I returned after 6 months and see that nothing has improved (unfortunately). So let's start by saying that I came on National Margarita Day, which lands on a Saturday. Usually, they have happy hour all day on Saturdays (and also Sundays, sometimes at the bar, sometimes in the restaurant)... and we can usually get huge margaritas for $5. We figured that on National Margarita Day, we'd get some killer drink specials.....and were majorly disappointed. Their $5 margaritas were half the size and came in a plastic cup, and didn't even taste the same as their regular margaritas. After our first round, we just asked to pay full price (more money) for their regular margaritas, and were happy. I cant wrap my head around how on NATIONAL MARGARITA DAY, their margaritas were smaller, more expensive, and didn't taste as good. They were all mixer. On top if it, we came early (11:30 am) thinking that on national margarita day, the restaurant would be very busy (they were promoting this weekend on Facebook). The restaurant was dead, but as usual, our service was slow and terrible. And one more thing...everyone's guacamole was brown. We kept coming back because it's nostalgic - we have always had fun there. But we have decided this time that after so many poor experiences, we will never be back. read more

So where to start. Walked in place looked nice and clean. Boats was nice. Staff at table was great. They let me pick the table I wanted. That was a plus. He always give amazing service & great recommendations. (If he tells you to try something....DO IT!!!!!) he doesn't disappoint. He's very attentive, has great humor. He's a all around amazing server. The only reason I came to this place was for their Macho Burrito Challenge. I saw that they had a major event on Cinco De Maya and noticed they had this challenge. I really wanted to try some sort of eating challenge that is close by. No real rewards here. It is like Cheeburger Cheesburgers, where you just get a picture for finishing. The one that is listed for $18 is about 1-2 pounds? Not sure, but I finished in like 2 minutes? It wasnt a lot nor was it difficult really. It was tasty and it was fun to even try. You get to wear a mask with the Servers and take a photo. That was the portion that was well worth my time here. I must say, they were not kidding about the spicy level of that burrito. Although only a portion of the burrito had that spicy sauce, it was SPICY. I left it for last, but it was burning for the next 10 minutes or so. Be careful with your bill. They will charge you without letting you know. It will be surprise you. Waiters are trained to over change in your bill. On recent visit we noticed in our bill they had charged in the middles of our bill so don't see it. When drinks are buy one get free including Tequila or Margarita they will add the price for both as I said in the middle of the bill. They add money for salt on the rim. They will sneak some price for sauce, salsa etc. Always check your bill and keep menu with you till your dinner is done so you can compare what was the price for each dish. First time visit tonight! Outside of two big issues the meal itself was very good! Sadly, even though the food was tasty we did encounter two pretty big issues regarding both our reservation and service. I had made a reservation online for a booth in the dining room for 7:45 pm however when we got to the restaurant the hostess could not find my reservation. I ended up having to show my emailed confirmation but, that did not get me the requested booth in the dining room! Instead of the booth I requested they took us outside to a table on the outdoor patio...ugh! This would not have been too bad but, it was too cold to sit outside. Couple this issue with the fact that the continual wait time between courses was simply unbearable and sadly the restaurant only wound up with 3 "overly generous" stars here. Will we be going back? The first visit was very promising for a chain Mexican restaurant. The quality of the food was very good. They have several unique menu items in addition to the standard Mexican fair you'd expect of fajitas, chimichangas, tacos, burritos, etc. The menu is huge, actually. I tried one of their Molcajetes which is a huge stone bowl filled with sizzling meat, vegetables and some soft melted white cheese. I have to say it was excellent. I got the first one on the menu which has steak, chicken and chorizo. The chorizo made the dish for me as you get a bit of that crumbled spicy mexican sausage in every bite. It's enough for one large appetite or two people could share it if you had appetizers. It really depends if you just eat it out of the bowl, as I did, or you roll it up in tortillas, which come with it. I'd be hard pressed to not get one of these again. The pork carnitas entree came with large tender chunks of slow cooked pork, served with rice, beans, and fajita fixins. The kids meals were very generous portions. Adult meals were between $15-$25 (I'm sure there are cheaper options) and kids meals were about $6. The drink special when I was there was a pineapple margarita on the rocks with sugar on the rim. It was served in a large glass and it was excellent but weak. Good flavor without being too sweat or too sour. Some bars rely too heavily on the mix. The only downside is I had two and didn't taste the tequila (or feel it) in either of them. So, while a very good drink, it wasn't that strong. If you like it spicy, there is hot sauce on the table. You can also ask for the spicy salsa which was excellent. It came in a small ramiken and looked liked crushed up multi-color peppers (see picture) and had a really nice flavor You get free chips and salsa when you sit down. Chips were the normal crispy salted chips. Salsa was very good. Had a nice tomato flavor without being too watery. The place is huge. They took out the pool tables and you have three very large seating areas. It'll be interesting to see how they keep up with service when the place is packed. There is also a small outdoor eating area on the front porch and the nice long bar which has always been there. I have to say I had stopped going to Baileys long ago. The food didn't give me reason to return and the bar crowd was pretty trashy. We'll see how Senor Tequila's does, but so far it seems like a nice addition to Germantown. Service was very prompt and friendly. A little bit uninformed on some things, but this is still a new place and they are figuring things out. Will try it again and update the review accordingly after having some other menu items. I'd give it a try, though. It's something different than Guapos and I think a little better. If I could give half star I would have given them a 3.5. It was not quite a four but maybe it was based off what we ordered. The food we ordered was Fajitas Taco Salad with steak and Nachos with carnitas. We were given chips and salsa for free. The chips and salsa - good; Fajita salad - good and Nachos were ok. Second time visit to this restaurant and it was a bit worse than my first time around. Went here with 2 of my friends for dinner. The server kind of got our orders wrong, made a couple of mistakes... 1st one was that for the Vegetarian Trio, it should have been a Cheese Quesadilla, a Tostada and Cheese Enchilada. But they brought out the Pepper instead of the Quesadilla, so they had to reorder. 2nd mistake was, we ordered Chicken Quesadillas, but they initially gave us one with Steak. So they took that back and brought out the Chicken ones. Service was a little slow as well, even when the place wasn't too busy after 8:30 PM on a Wednesday evening.
