What a weird place. My girlfriend wanted coffee so we go in. The guy making her coffee had his sleeves cut out of his shirt and sliced almost all the way down to his waist, and a shaggy man bun. So much for sanitary. Then, I asked for a Diet Coke since I'm not a coffee drinker, and they don't carry soft drinks. Laid back coffee shack... When I 1st approached it, the decor & people in front reminded me of an early 70s head shop. After walking in I almost started looking around for pipes, bongs, & incense, but remembered it was supposed to be a coffee shop...:) I think coffee shop is a loose description for the Bean. It is an eclectic place where you can hear music, watch unusual movies, & sit in overstuffed chairs & sofas to pass the time; and yes order coffee & light fare. We had the coffee & a tofu wrap, both were on the bland side. However, the prices were reasonable. For good food...try the Brighter Day Natural food market next door @ Bull & E. Park! read more

My husband gives 5 stars for the egg and cheese sandwich he had. As a coffee connoisseur, I would have to say the coffee tasted a bit less than fresh, but at least the creamers were fresh! The only other factor was a customer that plopped herself and her candy bar wrapper trash right next to me so she could access an outlet to charge her phone. No "excuse me" or anything. I guess I was invisible. We are from New York and even in New York a customer would not have been that rude in a "community minded" coffee cafe such as this one purports to be. read more

Like everywhere we went in Savannah, the staff was super nice. This place was pretty busy for a Sunday night but there was plenty of room to sit. We actually went in for wine and beer which was such a good deal. ($5 for a mason jar pretty much full of wine!) the only down side was that the place wasn't super clean. When planning our move to Savannah, we only looked at houses walkable to Sentient Bean! This place is amazing. I fluctuate between vegetarian and vegan, and both options do not disappoint. Just wanted all "Yelpers" to know about my experience @ Sentient Bean. I worked in Savannah for over 5 1/2 months in 2009. We were shooting the Disney movie, "The Last Song" and my office was 2 blocks from the 'Bean.' I visited just about each and everyday (give or take a few days) and every time I ordered my coffee, it came out amazing.. I ordered a double shot of espresso with a bit of whipped cream @ the bottom of the cup..amazing. The place is awesome and did I mention the food?? OMG. I would always get the veggie wrap (Bean's choice) and it was so damn good. Thanks guys for always being so cool. Oh, and Jomie (sp) was usually my barista and was so nice and cool. Take care guys. During my four day visit to Savannah, I came here twice. The first time I came for brunch. I had just arrived from the airport and was starving. Being that this spot was two blocks away from the Airbnb I was staying at, I decided to eat here. The space is big with different kinds of seating, bar stools, chairs, sofas, etc. There is lots of artwork being displayed throughout the cafe. The ambiance was loud and chaotic. I guess it was because of the time.The bathroom was in dire need of a cleaning. The menu is displayed on the wall, next to the register. You order and get a trophy with a letter on it and find a seat. Your order is delivered to your table. I had the breakfast taco. It was very bland and extremely dry. My daughter had the vegan superbowl, which was ok. I came a second time during dinner. I had been out all day and was exhausted. I didn't have the energy to wander far from our Airbnb so I decided to give it a second try. I had the Heart of Gold salad and it was ok. It's a nice vegetarian/vegan spot with potential but, for now, it's average food at average prices. read more

We enjoyed the most amazing breakfast here a few days ago. So much that we keep talking about it and can't wait to go back! I ordered the bagel egg & cheese sandwich. My husband had the vegan super bowl and we shared the vegan blueberry pancakes and the hot apple cider. Everything was so delicious that we devoured it! I am usually a very slow eater but I finished before hubby! We also bought a vegan chocolate coconut cookie to go. We split it later on and instantly regretted not getting one each. Very satisfying, filling, and absolutely delicious! We can't wait to go back. Also I appreciated their use of "ecotainers". I'll add a pic of this. So we wanted smoothies from a non chain place .. looked up reviews and SB had good reviews . Went down for smoothies , and he settled on a fruit smoothie w Almond milk , me a banana pnut butter .. We got small sizes which was 8.50$ each or something there .. Well mine was just "'ok" Im guessing 1/2 tsp of pnut butter ? at best, and his was and 8.50$ plus tax , for cup of almond milk! I think it basically had 1 strawberry as we saw a few seeds and nothing more and no taste whatsoever .. complete waste of money , just paid for about 3 gallons of almond milk! I know things are costing more ..Ok charge me more but dont screw me over And compromise product ?! but seriously 9.00$ Ish " small smoothie and it was basically all almond milk with 1 strawberry if we were lucky ..Im a local here and 1st time yelper . We hardly go out and just wanted something cold to walk around with at our park , this is just poor business practice .. never again read more

I almost don't want to review this place so it doesn't get overrun... It's on the tour routes so I'm sure it's frequented by tourists as well as locals. It wasn't the best iced coffee I've ever had but was good. The location is great- right by Forsyth Park and on the DOT express route. Cute robot art was on the walls. Eclectic patron scene. My 13 year old nephew liked it & said it had a chill vibe. He charged his cell phone and used WiFi to play video games while I got some stuff done on my laptop. The bathroom was a bit odd- no mirror and looked like a prison cell, but it had a changing table for all the parental units out there! I don't often drink fancy coffee drinks, so I can only really comment on the Bean's regular coffee and food options. I appreciate having good descriptions of the characteristics of the drip coffee available each day, as it changes. Most of the time, there's a coffee available that I really enjoy. Every once in a while, the three caffeinated coffee choices miss the mark for my tastes, but there's always cream, milk, soy milk, honey, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg available to jazz things up. Their breakfast burrito is becoming an addiction for me. Whole wheat tortilla, farm fresh eggs, spinach, salsa, and a generous helping of melted cheddar cheese makes me a very happy girl. Their salads and paninis have always satisfied me. The Bean had two small downsides in my estimation. The first is one of convenience which I am slowly getting used to. They take cash or check only. They do have an ATM inside that charges a $1.50 transaction fee if I haven't prepared ahead and picked up cash. The second complaint is that if they are busy, it can take a while to get your food. I can't run in and be assured that I can quickly get a sandwich or salad. Forcing me to slow down and enjoy some quiet time is not a bad thing, but their food service slowness limits when I can enjoy breakfast or lunch there. I'd be grabbing lunch there all the time if I could pop in and out quicker! read more

Very cool place. I was looking for vegan options in Savannah and although they are not exclusively vegan they have great options like the vegan breakfast burrito or tacos. They give you an old plastic sports trophy to take to your seat so they know where to deliver the food. Hip young vibe but a diverse crowd. It's eclectic and laid back vibe makes you want to keep coming back. And the clientel is a mixture of artsy types, college students, and folks who love good coffee and great eats. Last week, they we're showing a film and a while before that there was a Spitfire poetry showcase (absolutely love Spitfire). You go in for coffee and a pastry and never know what you'll find. So, I will start by saying that the tea that I've had from here is great. I really enjoyed it. It was the coffee that kinda upset me. So, a friend and I went to sit in one afternoon after going to the Farmer's Market. She ordered something and enjoyed it, but I just ordered some coffee. I ordered a macchiato. I think I got a medium macchiato and looking back, I should've just said something about it, but I didn't. The coffee even after sweetner just tasted horrid. My cup was 80% foam, 20% horrid coffee. I went to the Sentient Bean for lunch and had a drink called the Dirty South with coffee and lemonade which was good. I also tried an espresso drink with maple which was delicious. The Sentient Bean has great vegetarian and vegan options. I had a bowl with quinoa, avocado, okra, and other veggies. Food was good, not outstanding, but good. The staff were friendly and it's a relaxed atmosphere. I was happy with my overall experience here. Just as an aside, with one bathroom for customers, there was a long line for the restroom during the whole time I was there. read more

Great food, great atmosphere. My daughter (who is vegan and adamant in her food choices) and I each got a drink, and she got a cinnamon roll. The line was a bit lengthy - which speaks to the Sentient Bean's popularity and good service - although it moved quickly and the wait for our drinks was only a few minutes. The staff was so friendly and let my daughter get an iced chai - not even on the menu, although easy to make. We enjoyed our breakfast outside in the shade. The best coffee shop in town. Not only is their coffee the best in Savannah, but the food selection is huge and delicious! The cafe is spacious, warm, laid-back and inviting, with unique artwork hanging on the walls. Service was friendly and fast. Plenty of seating for all- including couches, reading chairs, and traditional chairs. It has a cute patio out back, and it's right across the street from the park. I am stunned at these great reviews. We went to this place on a trip through several cities and this was by far the worst place we went. It's vegetarian but looking at the menu that appears to mean essentially "replace with cheese". We ordered a sandwich and a black bean quesadilla. We waited for 45 minutes and I finally went up to the counter and asked if they forgot us. A woman who appeared to be the owner gave me an annoyed attitude that made me wonder if I did anything wrong. They had taken our food to a different (empty!) table and as nobody ate it they took it away!! Seriously?! Anyhow, we had to wait for another 15 minutes, and instead of apologizing she just threw the plates on the table in a way that was plain rude. The food was ok, but nothing special and rather average. The side of greens should be categorized as garnish. The peppermint iced tea though was very good. So here is my recommendation: Go next door to the natural foods store Brighter Day. You can't tell from the outside but they have sandwiches and also make them to order. Much bigger vegan selection and their staff is super friendly....oh and it costs much less and you can still sit in the same tables outside. read more
