I have found that the Pittsburgh area generally doesn't do authentic Thai food well, but Senyai is the exception. I have been here a few times over the last month and it has exceeded expectations every time. The Pad Si-Yu is excellent and the crispy chicken is cooked well every time. I've been to Senyai many times. It's a family run business and authentic Thai food. A bit pricey but the ambience is wonderful and in the summer, their patio is lovely. The restaurant itself is pretty small and can get very busy at lunch/dinner hours. It does open later at noon and their service is a bit slow but overall, I've not had any dish I didn't love there. My recommendations would be the duck curry, massaman curry, gra pow, pad kee mao or any of their seafood specialities. Pretty good choice of items. Their ginger tea is absolutely delightful and perfect for those cold, wintery days. read more

the food was absolutely mediocre. the duck curry i got was so tasteless and watery, it's not suppose to be like that! given that the location is in a highly gentrified area like shadyside, with their neighbor the famous Noodlehead being a totem for whitewashed thai food. I would bet a million that this place has some of the best thai food you will ever eat. Everything is fresh homemade and has grandmas special TLC in the food. Lins spicy garlic chicken wings are to die for and the Red Curry is my favorite thing on the menu. If youre a fan of seafood the crab curry would also be a great choice. The ceiling is beautiful. The food is DELICIOUS! Got three different main dishes (eggplant, pumpkin curry, and senyai moo sup) as well as a mango salad and every dish was amazing. And the desserts (custard with sweet sticky rice and taro custard) somehow managed to even top the main courses. Absolutely delicious food, and very reasonably priced too! We are from Southern California and happened upon Senyai Thai Kitchen when moving our daughter to Pitt for college. Since then we have eaten here every time we come to town. The modern, yet home-like ambiance sets the scene for a great meal, and the people that work here treat you like family. Every item on the menu that we have tried is amazing. Some of our favorites are any of the curries and the Si-Ew. Senyai Thai is always able to accommodate the different dietary restrictions in our family... my husband is vegan and I do not do well with monosodium glutamate. We'll be in town again next weekend and we are looking forward to our visit to Senyai Thai Kitchen! read more

The new kid on the block in Pittsburgh Thai is certainly the best. This is a sleek and cozy new Thai restaurant specializing in central Thailand styles with excellent skill at balancing seasoning and spice as well as featuring more seafood options than you may be used to. *updated* My first visit we got crispy rolls and larb which were both excellent, particularly the larb (a seasoned ground beef over chopped salad). The entree was the very satisfying crab curry which was a sweet and spicy yellow curry full of generous amounts of lump crab. The flavors were spot on and intriguing and absolutely balanced between the sweet of coconut milk, salty crab bits, and spice. Wouldn't worry about getting over seasoned here... which is important because these guys know how to balance heat and flavor expertly, something I don't get many other places. Our second visit (review update) we got crispy rolls again and this time shared and pad Thai. While we eyed a gorgeous plate of red snapper come out to our neighboring table (and will be trying next time!!!), the pad Thai was in no way disappointing. Opting for a very clean flavor true to the noodle, protein, and peanut without lots of citrus or rooty tones like basically every pad Thai I've had in pgh, this was truly refreshing. Sauce was was just enough to keep noodle sticky but not wet the dish and packed full of spice and savoriness. Staff and service and cleanliness all top notch. My favorite Thai restaurant in the area! I always bring my visitors here for dinner. They have a large variety of food on the menu with varying levels of spice which I appreciate. I highly recommend making a reservation due to the small interior. Their outdoor patio is very nice in the warmer weather. Also note, the restaurant is BYOB with a minimal corkage fee. Awesome little spot in an out of the way location. Set in what used to be a house, this place has a lovely half intimate half homey atmosphere. The servers were very prompt and professional and the food was delicious. I had the Tom Yum soup (appetizer size) and the Pad Thai, and my friend got the full entree size Tom Yum. The flavors of both Tom Yums were excellent, and the appetizer size Tom Yum had quite a kick (a level 2 on their 1-3 spice scale) but I preferred the flavors of the full size Tom Yum which had shrimp and an excellent lemon seafood flavor. The Pad Thai was very well done and the portion size was very large for the price, which I liked. Definitely the best Tom Yum I have had in Pittsburgh, and one of the better Pad Thais. The only complaint I could find would be that the music was quite loud and they had the same song on repeat for 45 minutes, not a big deal but slightly irritating. read more

The pad se eu didn't have the sweetness that I've tasted from other restaurants, but it was fine (just different). We just had lunch at Senyai and I can't wait to go back. The space is bright and airy at lunch time; can't wait to see it at dinner. We started with kra tong thong, "Herbed minced chicken, sweet corn, carrot in pastry crispy shells." (Also has peas.) These were wonderful little morsels in a phyllo-like mini-cup that don't overfill you before your main meal. I had grapow kai krop, "Stir-fried, crispy-chunk chicken, green beans, carrot and bell pepper in spicy basil sauce." This is a spicy dish and the heat level option on the spicy food is 1-3. I love HOT, so I ordered 3, expecting a "Pittsburgh hot," which is not very hot at all. This was nicely spicy -- enough to give a little burn (to me, at least) but not so much that all you tasted was HOT! This was very, very good and another dish I would order again, if it weren't for the 20 other dishes on the menu I want to try. My husband got spicy fried rice, "Stir-fried spicy garlic sauce with egg, mixed with steamed jasmine rice, carrot, bell pepper, onion and basil. Delicious. About a 7-8 on the typical scale of heat in Pittsburgh. I also had the homemade purple lemonade, which was slightly floral (lavender maybe?) and not at all sweet. Put some gin in it and you've got a great cocktail! Speaking of which, the place is BYOB with a corkage fee and has take-out menus. Best Thai I've had in Pittsburgh! We had the crab fried rice and Mussaman curry- both were so amazing. The place is super clean and charmingly decorated.
