This food was delicious and the service was very helpful in understanding the menu and helping you create your meal. They have a make it your way menu but they also have some preset recipes. I tried three of those recipes taco style. I ordered the Seoul Train, Kimchi Krunch, and Fireball. I would say the Seoul Train was the least impressive. Kimchi Krunch and Fireball we're both spicier and more flavorful in my opinion. Overall though the tacos were a really good size especially for the price. I love the idea of Korean-ish Chipotle and they do it well here! Everything I've tried is delish and it is reasonably priced. You can't go wrong with a rice bowl, bulgogi, all the veggies, and some ginger dressing + sriracha. My main issue is that while ordering I've had pretty assertive homeless people come in and ask for money. Also outside the restaurant I'm constantly approached by homeless people. I get it, it is the city and times are tough for people. That being said, I do not think the restaurant should allow homeless people to beg from customers in line and in the store. read more

I ordered kimbap with bulgogi, bean sprouts, corn, carrots, cucumbers, kale slaw, creamy sriracha, ranch on the side, crispy garlic, cilantro, scallions, and roasted sesame seeds. Sounds like a ton of ish on there, but the flavor was great! Highly recommend! It was a BIT challenging to keep together, probably bc I added everything to it. It's ok Korean style food but nowhere near authentic. We were starving and staying at the hotel around the corner so this place was convenient. Husband ordered the Klassic bowl off the menu which surprisingly, didn't include kimchi. He had to ask for it. I customized my bowl (bulgogi, carrots, cukes, sprouts, kimchi, kale, sesame oil and seeds, cilantro, egg) with sriracha mayo. The veggie portions were generous on both our bowls but flavors were bland. Service was great and the place was clean. The noise level is pretty deafening and it was difficult to hear the employees when they ask you what type of meat or veggie or sauce you want. I think they want you to yell out your order to be heard. It's super annoying and the food doesn't make up for the noise. You can pick and choose which protein, veggies, house-made sauces, and toppings to go with your dish. I think that's awesome! The service was quick and friendly. The boyfriend ordered the signature combination called the Fireball (spicy pork, corn, pickled radish, kale slaw, kimchi, Korean hot sauce, creamy sriracha, crispy garlic, scallions, roasted sesame seeds). If you can handle spicy food, you should go with that. I had one tiny bite of that and my tongue was a burning fireball. I decided to do my own thing and went with a rice bowl. I chose purple rice, chicken, extra corn, kimchi, pickled radish, kale slaw, carrots, cilantro, scallions, and the cilantro-lime ranch sauce. Let me tell you, my combination was pretty banging. That is a nice mix and it was delicious. If you ever visit SeoulSpice, give it a shot and try my combination. The total came up to $25.28 for the two bowls and the two Korean soft drinks called Sac-Sac Orange and Sac-Sac Grape. Another one of those "see what you pick and eat" places where food comes in a variety of choice in an assembly line. Nevertheless, I find myself coming back for seconds. What snagged me, you may ask? "the egg". Medium to soft boiled egg marinated in heaven. Add rice, Asian-style veg, and a protein - it makes for another $10 spent but well spent. I prefer pork to the bulgogi myself, but the bulgogi will sell out. If you can't think of good combinations they have pre-set bowl orders as well. Always order the egg, it's like paying extra for the avocado but better. This is the best place to grab lunch in the NoMa area. Their staff is very nice and down to earth, the food is fairly priced, seating is plentiful, and it's conveniently located for the residents in the neighborhood. I love the bulgogi beef here. It's always good, they season it with some kind of mild sweet sauce and it's just awesome. The creamy sriracha sauce is excellent on pretty much anything and kimchi is always a tasty addition to your rice bowl. They have gluten free cookies and brownies by the register that are really tasty, I suggest giving them a try. They also do a great job of killing the heat if you get spicy food. Generally I pay $10-$15 per person depending on what I order. They don't charge you extra for veggies in the bowl, so feel free to load up on whatever you like most. I really love Korean food, but unfortunately there are not many Korean restaurants that metro accessible in the DC Metro area. I usually frequent the Annandale, Virginia area for my Korean food fix, so I was very excited to hear about Seoul Spice opening. At the same time, I understand that the concept of this place is to following the recent trend of upscale fast food restaurants. For example, (Chipotle, ShopHouse, Cava). I order a Rice Bowl with Bulgogi, bean sprouts, carrots, corn, cucumbers, korean radish, kale slaw, and kimchi, creamy Sriracha sauce, cilantro, scallions and roasted sesame seeds. I also paid the $2.00 up charge for the egg. The combination was very good and this place can definitely fill my Korean food fix when I can make it out to Annandale. WOW! How have I never heard of this place before?! I believe this is the only location in DC that I am aware of, and came in on a Sunday at about 12:30 (sadly the place is empty, which is a shame because this food was AMAZING). I expect that during the work week this place fills up pretty quick. It's close to the metro station and a fast / casual Korean spot. How can you go wrong?! Think Roti or Chipotle - but Korean. So you get your options of style (rice bowl, salad, taco, burrito) - I went with a rice bowl (you can do sushi grade white rice or purple rice). I wasn't sure how adventurous I was feeling so I opted to go with a signature-style bowl - Seoul Train. It comes standard with a spicy sriracha mayo and WOW... it was AMAZING. For about $10-11 I left with more than enough food and a soda/fountain beverage (also included with their soda option is a choice of an apple & kale juice or a ginger lemon tea). The bowl was extremely filling and I wasn't hungry until much later in the day. I will definitely be back and/or adding this to my delivery routine. read more

I don't think I've ever received a correct order via delivery and the bowls are always half empty. Like a Korean chipotle! I very much like the options you can get here. I got a purple rice bowl with beef, Kim chi, corn, scallions, the spicy sriracha sauce, and an egg. I think the egg is a bit expensive but it's very well made and I don't regret adding it. The rice isn't perfect, some parts were a bit drier/hard not fluffy. Beef is well marinated and tender though and the kimchi pickled well. I was scared the sauce was gonna be too spicy but not at all - a little kick but goes well with the bowl. In one of my recent reviews I was rambling about how much I'm over the Build Your Own Bowl system. Some places do it better than others but at this point, I am inclined to rate BYOB establishments harder. Seoul Spice does have Purple Rice so they get many points for that. Progressive! I also liked the location. Sort of feels like the middle of nowhere on a Sunday night. I just like trying places away from the main restaurant enclaves. Now time for the review. Writing a review for another BYOB place is giving me review fatigue. That, that, that, that, and that. That's it. They do have chopsticks and no veggies of mine were in bad shape. I went meatless for my protein. The Tofu was fine. Staff was cool. I just doubt I will be back. I should've just gotten Purple Rice with Cilantro and some sort of sauce and dipped out. I ordered the bibimbop bowl and the korrito. The bowl looked good but there wasn't any flavor; it was very bland. I also paid extra for "the egg" but i didn't get one. I don't think the Korrito was wrapped properly because it fell apart in the container...so basically another bland bowl of food that fell out of its wrapper. I only received sauces for the bowl. I did not receive the sauces ordered with the Korrito. The little bit of sauce I received had decent flavor but was too little to help the food taste better. Missing sauce, no egg (that I paid extra for), a broken Korrito and bland food...overall a pretty terrible dinner experience. read more

Americanized Korean version of a chipotle Spacious seating area with a chipotle style of ordering food. Pick between bibimbap (Rice bowl), kimpab (But as a "burrito"), tacos, or salad. Then fill up on rice, proteins, sauce, and desired sides. I was ordered a rice bowl with spicy pork, korean hot sauce, egg, and a bunch of other sides. Whilst ordering, they confused my bowl with someone else's and added the wrong sauces. Then they redid my bowl, but I didn't notice that they replaced my initial order of purple rice with brown rice until after I started eating. My bowl was on the spicier side but it wasn't too spicy to the point that I couldn't taste anything. The spicy pork was savory and gave a kick. The flavors mixed well with each other. The egg was soft boiled perfectly, but was a little too salty. The rice was sticking to the bottom of the bowl, but the overall bowl was very flavorful. However the portions were less than generous given the price of the food. read more

I stopped at Seoul Spice at lunch time about a week ago. I would give the food 4 stars and I thought it was good. Our group had mixed feelings on it. I thought it was fresh but others did not think of it as authentic Korean food. I would definitely go back and thought it was very tasty and fresh. Service was 3 stars. Cant blame the staff. I think it's more of a training issue. However the process was 2 stars and they need to get it right soon. The POS was down during the middle of lunch crowd. This is a big predominately lunch crowd area. The cashier was using a phone and square device to ring people out. Also itemizing lunch plates which was taking forever. Management later on got it right and fixed the problem. You should definitely set up a back up internet system and just go with a flat rate on dishes to save time if it happens again. Also there was a huge line clogging the area to walk to seating space and couldn't even walk across the room. There's an easy solution for that. Could be a good spot for lunch and maybe happy hour in a growing Noma area.. hmm. TBD. .. check it out. read more

After living in Korea for three years, they did well blending some authentic ingredients. The purple (bean) rice is on point, and the kimchi is also very good. They also have authentic Korean soda/juice/beer/soju. The food is fairly priced with like restaurants (Cava or Poki) and really does capture a Korean vibe, At least in the rice bowl (bibimbop), which is what I always get. Keeping it out of the 5 star range is the cost of the drinks. $9 for soju. $3 for a fountain drink. $3 for 6-8 oz Korean juice can. All these things in Korea cost $1 or less. One thing about Bougie Bites, is that we love great tasting foods that aren't so heavy on the wallet. The atmosphere, staff, and menu were definitely a win in our books! Seoul spice is first time friendly, they allow you to sample their foods so you know if you want to commit or not. We committed, but of course we have just a few things to keep in mind. 1. We were expecting robust Korean flavors especially since "spice" was in the name. If they put a little more SeOUL in their Spice they would be an ALL around winner. 2. If you have not tried the purple rice, you MUST. It is no different flavor than white rice, but the concept is pretty awesome. (Adding Whole grain to this menu or lentil would bring their concept of "naturally GLUTEN-FREE, our recipes nourish the BODY and SOUL" full circle. 3. I don't work in this area on a regular basis, which is a damned shame, because I'd be here all the time. Or maybe that's a good thing - because, well... I'd be here all the time. I ordered the "classic" bibimbap, because I tend to stick with the safest thing on the menu in a place I'm trying out for the first time. Opted for the purple rice, bulgogi, garlic, all the veg, and the egg. Also decided on the honey lime tea, though the drinks are self-serve and you can pretty much try both that and the kale apple if you choose. (I did. More about that in a minute.) I'm used to a hot bibimbap in a stone bowl where the egg is cracked on top of everything, so I was a little surprised to get what was, more or less, a half-boiled egg. Probably not something I'd choose again, as it was COLD. Noooooo. Not right, not right, not right. Other than this slight misstep, I was pleasantly surprised. The purple rice was absolutely divine - I would definitely choose this again. And the bulgogi was sizzling hot and surprisingly bold-tasting. Except for the egg, this was one hell of a good meal, and I truly wasn't expecting much. The honey lime tea was good, but I was blown away by the kale apple drink, and I'm not a fan of kale-anything, usually. The atmosphere is metal and boxy wood and high ceilings, which to me is a little off-putting - it's sort of "cold" and uninviting. This is one of those places where you shouldn't raise your voice, because it's like being in the Alps - you'll hear your echo for 20 minutes. No complaint here about staff, really - I didn't have questions to ask, so not much interaction there. Next time I'm in the area for a training or a meeting, I'll definitely be stopping here for lunch. Great experience. read more

So the food tastes ok, but I ordered a salad today with chicken and there was a small, one inch, thin chicken bone in it. Luckily I bit on it and was able to spit it out before I swallowed it. But with small cubes of chicken, not something I'm on the lookout for and could certainly be a choking hazard. I won't be returning It's worth updating my review to say that almost immediately I was contacted by the VP of the company and offered a refund for my lunch and a new entree. She also expressed concern over my experience and said she was going to call their supplier. I reluctantly went back to give them a second shot and it was very good.
