If I could give this negative stars I most definitely would! I walked in the store @ 10:05 am when they opened @ 10am! One employee looked at me said hi and kept it moving. I walked around the store seen a couple more employees and they just looked at me and rolled their eyes NOT one of them asked me if I needed help with anything(which I did because I was looking for something) they weren't busy there were only maybe 3 other customers in the store! I decided at that moment that I would NOT be spending my money at that store what horrible customer service they need to do better than that smh read more

I came to Stanford for Bloomingdales to return some stuff and decided to make a stop in Sephora since I adore the stuff in the store and not the store itself. In typical Sephora-fashion, there is a stupid long line when I walked in this tiny store. But oh-ho! There is product in stock at this location. Eat your heart out, Sephora - Valley Fair. But wait, why would I give the same rating for this store as VF? No associate offered to help me like at all. Makes me appreciate the customer assistance offered at VF. Sephora is like heaven to me. I could spend hours in there and there's always something that I "need" to have...which proabably explains why I'm a VIB beauty insider. The service here can be a bit hit or miss. Sometimes I get great service (normally on weekdays when it's slow) and other times I have to wander around the store until I can find a sales associate that's not busy. The store is smaller than Valley Fair, however they actually have products in stock, so that's what keeps me coming back. This Sephora is located in the Stanford Shopping center by NEIMAN MARCUS and MACYS Like any other retail store, your customer experience will vary depending on the staff on board. I am a fan of Sephora stores in general, the staff is always changing. I frequent this Sephora most often because of its location. It does get pretty hectic at times but for the most part, I can find someone to help me with some patience. I've found that like other "make up" store, the staff's knowledge of the products carried aren't as up to par as I would like. They do have a great return/exchange policy and perfume/colognes galore. So I was expecting horrible service coming here, based on all the other Yelp reviews, and I can see where people are coming from. If you don't know what you're looking for then you'll probably be dissatisfied with the service. I came in at 4:30 pm on a Tuesday, so the store wasn't too busy. I did have to look for someone to help me, and they didn't quite know what they were talking about and I did feel a little rushed. So yes, it is true, the service isn't as good as it is at other Sephoras, but at least there was no line at check out, since they had all 4 registers open. 1 star for having the product that I wanted, 1 star for no checkout line, and 1 star for having fully stocked make up remover and alcohol bottles (otherwise I'd be in trouble) read more

Before going to this location I browsed online and ensured all items I wanted were in stock, upon arriving they were either 1. Not in stock 2. No one knew where they might be Typically when you make a purchase sephora offers free samples as a nice customer service gesture...But here nothing. Also, the points on my card equate to that of a gift but it was like the girl working did not want me to use the points...There my points right? Just the best!!! So incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, efficient, and friendly! They are so on their game here! Lots of exclamation points because I'm so thrilled, haha. Stephanie showed me new products to replace a discontinued primer, prepped samples for me to take home, and even got me some complimentary make up guides for future reference. Imagine walking into a store, short on time and being approached by this real peach of a personality asking you if you would "like a bag to shoplift with?" Meh. Service is ok. Waited about 15+ mins before I could hunt someone down to help me!! Everyone was either with a customer..or acted like they were too busy! Could it be location related? Status (me not so rich & famous) related? Flip flop and tshirt with hair in a bun and no makeup related? Don't know....hmm...but definitely a thought to ponder. Regardless, I needed a really good serum for post pregnancy skin problems. Salesperson was not very knowledgeable in that area...but she did take the time to refer me over to someone who was able to help! After I got my free consult and a $90 bottle of serum...the salesperson who I originally stopped, helped me choose a nice light BB cream and powder fix and gave me a shitload of recommendations on what not to and what too do! All in all...not a too bad of an experience. Register ladies however...extremely SNOOTY!! What's it going to take to put a smile on those beautiful pouty red lips?? Sheesh. This Sephora can be a bit pretentious - that is why I typically order online. They say you can have samples of almost anything (with purchase of course - that is fair to me), but when you get there they run out of the containers, they seem unwilling to help you -- I don't know - this Sephora is set up really nicely, but my experience with the staff has been lacking. I have had really good experiences with other Sephoras, but I live in Palo Alto now and would like to shop at my local one and it to be a pleasant experience. I always enjoy going to this Sephora the staff Is very friendly and always helping you out. They never hover over you wile you test their products so you feel comfortable. When they run out of a tester you let them know and they will bring you out a new one. I do have to say what is annoying is that those who appear of the "higher class" tend to demand immediate attention and receive it. A woman walked right up in front of the line and saw the worker helping a customer and interrupted her saying "I need to pick up a product now" in a rude voice surprisingly the worker then catered the woman. read more

I came here to inquire about some scalp products because I am experiencing dry scalp this winter. The first representative that was helping me, I thought she was great. She answered my questions, and when she wasn't sure, she called over a co-worker. I wasn't very fond of her co-worker. I felt like when she answered my questions, she was rude and condescending. And I didn't bother to ask her more questions. I don't expect Sephora representatives to be doctors, nor was I asking patient-doctor questions. In fact, I was asking beauty questions, and had I known the answers -- I WOULD NOT have asked them!!! That representative needs an attitude check. Sorry I don't remember seeing name tags, but you give me a line up I can point them all out, ha! Also, I was upset when I arrived at the register to find out Sephora system's deleted my 400+ beauty insider points and account. However, I got this straightened out when I called up Sephora. Make sure to keep any purchase order numbers -- this was the best way the Call Center Representative, Asa, was able to find my information and merge my old and new accounts. First disclaimer, I'm a guy, Asian and straight, lol. As a youth, I got carded in my mid twenties. But, I remember some kid at a store called me sir once and I almost freak because when I get carded they are the one that usually freak. Several times store clerks would say that I stole the drivers license and wouldn't give me beer. Oh, that really gets me mad. But, these days age has caught up with me. I can't kick people's ass in sports anymore, I can't drink like a fish, eat two 24 oz porterhouse steaks in one meal. Hell, I have to even eat my vegetables and do green smoothies. So, I go in to Sephora for skin care product because my gay friend says to. I get told by a male sales clerk to get this kit, he's explaining how to use it. I call back the next day asking what steps to use the kit. I get it totally wrong, the lady on the phone explains it to me like it's easy, because you girls have been doing it forever. It's the serum first, then the rejuvenating creme and the eye cream, put the masque on at night. This by the way is because my gay friend says to go in get a free sample of Vitazing. I always end up spending way more than I anticipated here. I love this place. The staff is amazing, the nicest and most helpful Sephora employees work here. I have combination skin, and sometimes products are very hard to find. THe staff here knows just what I need, and always gives samples of other products to add on (which I always end up coming back for... great sales tactics!). I am a huge fan of the Shesido, Stila, and Benefit, and love this store because they carry all of those, but other brands as well. I could spend all day here. I miss when they used to carry "lip venom," but as usual, they have substitutes. The events for their VIB's seem extremely fun; however I have missed them all so I cannot say firsthand. read more

I thought it was weird that the cashier told me that they could make a sample of anything I wanted in the store. Um, isn't that what someone on the floor should offer? Why would I want a sample as I was checking out? That was weird. I used to work in a bath shop, and the only samples I gave at checkout were pre-made. Anyway... Aside from that, I wasn't crazy about the layout or size. Employees seemed overeager to help, even though I was just looking at the moment. (Not rude, just... eager). I went in today around 10:45am and had hands down THE BEST customer service! I felt like Vivian from Pretty Woman when Edward takes her to Shop! Everyone there was on their A game and I almost felt silly! From the second I walked in I was greeted by not one but TWO employees who offered to help. Then handed over to a make up specialist (who I couldn't stop starring at because it was flawless and fierce!!) who helped me apply some Bobbi Brown serum I knew nothing able to the adorable woman who helped me with the Jo Malone fragrance counter. Seriously, whatever the Sephora team had for breakfast, I want! They were amazing! I'm not one to shop in fancy pants places and usually feel out of sort with my baseball cap and jeans but this team didn't make me feel anything but amazing!! I'll be back for sure! I usually knock a star off for places that don't serve Diet Coke but not gonna do that here. They earned EVERY star plus one! Go team Sephora!! Visited here to get a gift for a friend. There's a nice selection of items and it laid out in an organized way. I wasn't sure what to get and initially couldn't find anyone to help me, but eventually a nice assistant came along and helped me pick out a few items. I love Sephora, but this location is not the greatest. The only reason why I am giving it two starts is because the girl who rang me up was the sweetest. The girls on the floor were dismissive and relatively rude. This is a smaller store and they were out of most of the products I needed to buy. I went in to look for concealer a couple of weeks ago, and the sales person went out of her way to help me find it. Then I started asking miscellaneous questions about different products and she was very patient and found others that could help me. Definitely a terrific attitude. The products are definitely pricey, so I only pick things there that I'm not comfortable getting at CVS or Riteaid or that they don't carry. For example, I can get Murad products there instead of ordering online. Though it is cheaper to get it online, this is good if you don't want to wait. In general, less overwhelming than the department stores where you really have to decide in advance what brand you want. read more

Been to this location on several occasions and overall it seems understaffed. Almost impossible to find someone for help, and when you do finally get someone's attention they get your name and tell you an employee will find you in a few minutes. HOWEVER on my most recent trip I asked for a walk in 15 mini makeup lesson (or whatever you call it) and the girl (DARIANE- hint hint, give this girl a raise or a bonus) was SO helpful. I got so much great advice. Originally went in to learn how to do lips, but I ended up asking for some advice on eyebrows because I only just recently started attempting makeup in that location. So Dariane showed me a really useful brush and gave me a quick, easy, informative demo on how to do one, then watched me do the other. I really felt like she was attentive to all my questions, didn't feel rushed or judged. My rating would be a lot lower if it wasn't for Dariane. read more

I never wear make-up. My daily make-up routine consists solely of moisturizer with SPF and if I'm going to a fancy event, I might slap on some mascara & lip gloss. You would probably expect that a make-up-challenged girl like me would have her make-up professionally done for her wedding. That was what I was originally planning, but the more I thought about it, the less enthusiastic I was. I've had my makeup done professionally a couple times before and every single time I've HATED it. I always think I look like a clown. On my wedding day, I want to look like myself. A better version of myself, who doesn't look washed out in photos, but still myself. And myself does not walk around with 6 layers of foundation, colored eyeshadow and bright red lipstick. Unfortunately, because I'm getting married 3000 miles from where I live, trying out lots of different make-up artists to find someone I like isn't really an option. So I got the (perhaps crazy) idea that I should just do my own make-up. After consulting various wedding blogs & message boards, it seemed like the best way for a make-up novice to do her own wedding make-up is to go to a store like Sephora, ask for advice about make-up, let them show you how to put it on, and then buy some products from them to use. I decided to go now, since I"m doing engagement photos in a couple weeks and that way I could have nice make-up for that as well. So off I went to this Sephora. Once I got there, it took a couple minutes for me to find someone to talk to and then I had to wait probably 15-20 minutes for Kimberly, their make-up artist to come over and help me. It was worth the wait, and Kimberly did an awesome job listening to what I wanted. I told her I wanted to look very natural, and I also didn't want to spend a fortune on make-up, since I have very little occasion to wear it. So she picked some products and then did my make-up, explaining to me what she was doing. I loved how it looked and if I could just hire her to do it on the wedding day, I totally would. She also gave me a written explanation of the products she had used, and drew them on a drawing of a face, which is super helpful. She also picked affordable products for me - the eyeliner, mascara, eye shadow, lip gloss, and blush were in a set that sells for $40 (quite a steal at Sephora, where many products individually are in that range). She also used a lipstick, which I didn't buy (I might buy it before the wedding, but I think for the engagement photos just the gloss will be fine), a tinted moisturizer, and some foundation powder. She gave me a generous sample of the tinted moisturizer so I didn't have to buy a big tube of it. I wanted to buy products, but I definitely didn't feel like there was any pressure to buy anything and I didn't feel like I was encouraged to buy more than I needed or pricier products than I wanted. I definitely recommend this Sephora, and particularly Kimberly, to anyone looking for wedding make-up or tips & advice for DIY make-up! read more

In store... you need to ask all the time (sometimes spending $70-100 or more it's nice to have a bonus of extra presents), even their promotion "when you buy any 3 products - you get travel bag for free", just got to the car and understood - that it didn't happen i forgot to remind and lady didn't care - I will return everything and will go online, enough is enough. I like to have pleasant experience, and all my friend started to shop online when I explained the deal with amazing miniature samples you get! Some of the cosmetic lines make products/gift packs that are exclusive to Sephora which is fun! They also have a great line up of skin & body care including: Peter Thomas Roth, Philosophy, Bliss, Murad, Dr. Brandt, Korres, Clinique, Lancome and many others. You can also pick-up haircare products (Ojon, Oscar Blandi, Living Proof, Rene Furterer, Phyto, Frederic Fekkai, etc.) and T3 blow dryers and flat irons there as well. They have a large selection of tools and cosmetic bags including Juicy Couture made specifically for Sephora. Every perfume you could imagine is there! Men's cologne is also offered and a wide variety! Perfume or cologne gift packs are available sometimes more than others, such as around holidays. You can also ask for a vial of perfume/cologne if you want time to try it out before making the purchase. If you are a Beauty Insider card holder, you can accumulate points and receive free gifts and a gift for your birthday too. I found the employees to be very nice and helpful, however some of them were just standing around and really couldn't answer questions or make product recommendations. With all the different lines & merchandise Sephora sells, they really should train specific employees in certain areas so they know about-say for example all the hair care lines & what they're for. This would ease some of the frustrations of customers & employees alike. Some of them are more generous with the samples than others, I notice they mostly make samples out of testers on the floor rather than give out the factory made foil packettes. Which is fine, I like the ability to try certain things out before making the purchase. When ordering online @ sephora.com, they have set samples that are factory made and you can choose 3. They have now come out with an even better rewards program Very Important Beauty Insider (VIB), which you can get if you spend $350+ in a calendar year. Basically it differs from the Beauty Insider in that you get a 10% discount welcome offer, access to pre-released products, holiday gift card, exclusive events/monthly perks, % off purchases here & there, etc. So if you shop a lot, it's nice to get some better perks!! Overall, I love Sephora! They have everything I need and it is one stop shopping for all of my beauty needs! However, my wallet aches every time I come here! read more

I'll start this off by saying that I absolutely love Sephora. I'm a makeup artist so I'm constantly in Sephora stocking up for my kit and testing out new products. Needless to say I've spent thousands of dollars here over the years. I have only ever had pleasant experiences at all the Sephoras I've been to around the Bay Area. However, this was one of the first times I have been to this particular one in Stanford Shopping Center. At first, everything was fine - my friend and I spent probably about an hour in there, just browsing and trying on different products. They were out of stock of a particular lipstick that my friend was looking at, and I remembered that I had a lipstick in my purse that was really similar to the one she wanted. It was still in the box, and I pulled it out of my purse and showed it to her to see if she would like it (they don't sell this particular brand of lipstick at Sephora). I know this sounds weird, but as I said, I'm a makeup artist and I often have random unopened makeup with me. Suddenly, a few employees were staring at us and I began to feel really uncomfortable. I didn't end up buying anything, so I went outside to wait for my friend while she was buying her stuff. I understand how this might seem suspicious, since they saw me pull an unopened package out my purse and walk out without buying anything. Anyway, so I was outside and my friend texted me saying "they saw you steal something, and they want you to come back in and put it back. they said they notified security, and that if i leave with you I'll get in trouble too". I was pretty shocked because I didn't take anything obviously, and I was really surprised that they didn't say anything to me before I left. I wasn't stopped at the door or anything as I was leaving. I walked back in and I told an employee at the front that I didn't steal anything, and that I had an unopened lipstick in my purse that I was showing my friend that they may have confused for one of their products. Every single employee that I saw was staring at me and I just felt extremely uncomfortable. I felt super embarrassed that this was even happening. She was nice enough and told me that everything is okay. Then I talked to another employee at the cash register and she just came off as a little rude even though the woman at the front "cleared" me. Overall, this wasn't a huge deal, and before this happened there was another employee who was extremely nice and helpful. However, I just found it rude and unprofessional that they didn't approach me and instead chose to involve my friend, who had nothing to do with it. Instead of staring at me and making me extremely uncomfortable, I wish they just would have politely asked me if I'd taken anything before I left, instead of taking a passive aggressive approach by calling security and telling my friend. read more
