I had to rate this Sephora because I love this location! The girls that work here are so sweet and are always willing to help. The last time I was here the woman working the register made sure I found what I was looking for and then discounted the perfume I was purchasing since part of the packaging had been opened. This is a smaller store and anything you purchase here is through JC Penney but I'd still come here anytime! read more

Came here looking for some face makeup and was greeted by Kimberly. She was very nice and helped me find a BB cream and concealer that matched my skin tone. She also answered a bunch of makeup questions that I had and did not make me feel like I was wasting her time with the little makeup knowledge that I have. read more

It took two sales associates to help with my exchange and while doing the transaction they just had to make stupid comments under their breath or to each other like "we don't even carry this anymore.. this receipt looks different" blah blah blah as if I can't hear them. If this review was just based on make up I would give it five stars, but it is based on the entire stors which includes the NON-FRIENDLY staff. Lets talk about the good of Sephora. I love make up, colors, lipstick, beautiful smells. Though the Sephora at JCP is a little smaller than others it has a good variety: benefits, bare essentials, Lorac, Nars, Make up forever, of course sephora brands, and others. It can be quiet if you go on a weekday which I prefer. But again I love make up and my fave is Benefit line. Staff that is a no no. I don't expect to be treated like a queen b/c I am not I am a customer. So I expect to be treated like a customer and be acknowledged and treated politely. This is not something you get from staff there. They have there own agenda and I think are even annoyed when you ask them "excuse me where is the..." So three stars to make up and non for the staff. read more

Hooorriible! My friends &i went in there about 2 weeks ago &the saleswomen would NOT stop staring! We would walk around &they would look @us very sneaky. &despite having said "no thank you, we're just looking" about 10 times, they kept asking "can i help you with something?" i believe it was an excuse to creep up on us. &we werent even stealing anything! They were lucky i even bought a mascara from there, i should have gone somewhere else, where they had good customer service. And when i left with one of my friends, my other friend stayed and overheard them talking about us &saying we were stealing!! RUDE &ANNOYING! Not goin back there again. I was so excited when I saw the Sephora coming soon signs at JC Penny, but come on no Make Up For Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This brand is only carried by Sephora stores and this one does not carry it!!!!!!!! I'll have to keep going to the Burlingame ( and I hate Burlingame) store. Also they are a little cheap about giving out samples. Samples are a part of the Sephora experience. You can't be cheap about giving out samples. read more

Went searching for a nude lipstick. The girl who helped was able to find the perfect nude color that went with my skin tone.She pulled out lip gloss that cost 25.00 that went great with the lipstick but when I mentioned I wasnt so happy with the price she did not hesitate and found me a look a like for a cheaper price. Came inn and was nicely greeted by ALEX she was able to get everything I wanted ! she knew exactly where I was coming from being a MAC user all the time and opened my eyes to better and similar products. she really new her makeup and did a wonderful job on helping me with shades and finishes. As I was walking around the store I noticed that no one offered to help me. When I wanted a sample for one of their products I asked a lady in uniform. She was very rude and tried to rush me. When I asked the young lady to speak with a manager, she rolled her eyes and said it was her. I read her name tag and it is Justine. She insisted on why I wanted to know her name. I told her I didn't have a good time shopping here due to lack of customer service. She gave me a insincere apology and walked away as if that's all I needed. Completely left me with no sample and no help at all. The rest of the employees seemed overwhelmed and scared while she was around. I know I'm older than most women that go in there but the manager, Justine, had no patience with me and it really upset me to know someone like that is in charge. I really wanted no stars but I had to click on one to complete this review. If you go to the JC Penney website and click on the Sephora link the impression is that you would either be able to buy from the Sephora inside JC Penney or order an item if they don't have it in stock. A fair assumption given that you can do this when you shop at any JC Penney. Well you can't. And when you go directly to the Sephora website it is EXACTLY the same website. But they are not the same. Don't buy a giftcard from Sephora inside JC Penney and think you can use it at Sephora.com. What you are buying is a JC Penney giftcard and it won't work at any Sephora. So you are stuck buying whatever stock they have in the JC Penney store. And as others have stated they do not have trained sales personnel so customers are pretty much on their own when trying to pick out foundation or blush. If I go to Macy's or Nordstrom's I can buy the makeup they have in the store or online. Not quite sure what either Sephora or JC Penney had in mind with this arrangement but it doesn't work for me. Ulta may not have the range of products but that is where I am shopping until Sephora and JC Penney figure out what their customers want. I have no desire to be looked down on as a consumer and would rather give my hard earned money to retailers who look at a customers needs from all angles-and deliver. read more

This sephora in particular is small but well done. I went in one day and there were so many people and only one worker at that moment and she was getting to everyone without a trip. I hand gone in to ask about the Kat Von D makeup to cover up a tattoo. So Tommi helped us and showed us how to use it and even wrote it down for future reference. She was very nice and knowledgable even under pressure. read more

Went in to get my Shiseido cleanser that I tried in a sample. It has glycolic acid in it and it made my skin feel amazing!

As the other review state customer service is not their thing. Unfortunately you have to work here or know somebody who works here to receive information not even a hello. It's a shame that a good location not good service even over the years. read more

I go here almost everyday and the one time I attempt to return something I've bought I got the worst customer service. I bought the Kat Von D liquid lipsticks in bow n arrow and Lolita 2 and tried to return them yesterday with out a recipt. I've returned something without a recipt before and they were able to look up my beauty insider card just fine. But this time I was denied that option because they have "jcpenny registers". Like what does that even mean and how was someone else able to look up my insider card with the same register? I had my debt card which I used to purchaced the two and was still denied to actually look it up. Not only that she proceeded to help the woman behind me in line before me. Anyways besides the point I was in a rush and just wanted to leave, she proceeded with te return and until I actually left the store I realized that she didn't fully refund me. Those liquid lipsticks are $20 each and I got refunded for $18 each. Yeah it's $2 but I expect a FULL refund for products I spend my money on. read more

I absolutely love it here!! All the MUA's are great. Everytime I go there I always have questions about what I could do to make my make-up look better. A few weeks ago, Christian helped me by answering a question in regards to which contour pallet was better; it was between the Kat Von D Skin Light or the Anastacia Beverly Hills; walked out of there with the Skin Light Pallet; so far, I love it. I also asked what he used for his primer because I was having such a hard time with my make up not separating in my T-zone area. He recommended that I take a sample of the FAB Mattifying Lotion, wow!! So far, it's been working out great, I'm already on my 2nd tube! Christian is amazing with his advice on how to prep my oily skin. I went back in ready to purchase the B6 and De-Slick sprays by UD, but luckily, I ran into him again and he suggested I tried the Boscia Charcoal setting spray. I love makeup and shopping at Sephora. However, today I came into this extremely cluttered Sephora in San Bruno. Which I understand since they are having renovations going on. But my boyfriend and I were accused of trying to steal. He was holding a box of sunglasses he had purchased at some other store and they thought it was a makeup product. We were just standing waiting for my sister in law to purchase her foundation and she later told us as she was paying she heard the cashier say "there's a couple over there and it looks like they're trying to steal". So then an employee with light blue hair came over to tell us "nothing from Sephora can leave Sephora OKAY !" I work in retail and I know that it is never ok to make customers feel as if they are trying to steal. I even went out of my way to explain to her we bought it somewhere else. Bottom line. Really unorganized and no one ever came to assist us or ask if we needed help. only after they assumed we were stealing. read more
