I used to shop at this location regularly but I feel like it's either not as nice as I remember or the service isn't what it used to be. While the store is well stocked and a decent size, it doesn't do me much good to have those additional items stocked if I can't get a sales associate to help me with samples or pull more stock from the back. That said, if you are just picking something up and don't need any assistance that's less of an issue. I'm still pissed, enough to write a review. I went here to buy an eyeshadow palette for a gift for someone after they complimented me on my eye look. Made my gift giving easy! I purchased the palette and an Asian girl with highlights checked me out. Sweet as pie, super nice and chatty, and put it in a box with a gift receipt. Easy! Fun! Just what I expected from one of the happiest places on earth. (VIB Rogue for years, yo). On my way out, I noticed the becca eyeshadow palette, and it was on a flash sale, which is SO RARE for Sephora. I swatched it and the colors were so nice and creamy, I decided to get that for the person instead, and picked up 2 additional palettes for a couple friends. (Holiday shopping - done)! So I took them back up to the register, literally 5 minutes later, and had a different girl. Dark hair in a bun, and she accentuated everything with a Bitch Ass Attitude. I smiled and gave her my gift receipt, along with the VIB Rogue card, and explained I wanted to get these palettes instead. So... I was paying MORE money. And that I wanted to return original palette because I changed my mind. She held the gift receipt out in disdain and was like, where's your other receipt? Girl, I dunno, look it up with my card. Then she says, why are you returning this?! With a weird sneer. I explained again for the second time. She ROLLED HER EYES AT ME. Like, what?!? I didn't even leave the store, and wanted to spend more money. You're giving me attitude? She made a big deal about the return and I was like look, I literally just bought this 5 minutes ago. It shouldn't be this hard, also I want gift boxes. Oh now while typing this I realized I didn't get gift receipts. Ugh. Whatever. So she takes all three palettes and puts them in one big box and I was like... uh, these are three different gifts. I need different boxes. She sneers again and was like, it won't fit. They need to go in this big box. Omg. This girl. So I had her bring the original box over and guess what?! It fit. Anyone with basic geometry or a basic ability to measure with a ruler would have figured it out. She huffed and looked put out to assemble the MAGNET BOXES that pop together. The blonde manager next to her noticed and offered to help box. The diva just watched her do it. Finally she thrust my receipt at me and was clearly pissed off, and I too stalked off from register. No thank you, no goodbye, nothing. FIRST OF ALL. I'm in the service industry. (Check out bronze Beauty Lounge for a beautiful spray tan :) If you can't be at least civil - see yourself out. I don't expect people to grovel, but be pleasant back. It doesn't cost anything to be kind. I ended up talking to the store manager up front, who was very kind and appreciative of the feedback, but I still want to write this review. Customer service is a hit or miss. I have shopped here twice and have gotten good service but I came in today trying to get a sample of a foundation. I decided to ask one of the employees if I can get a sample and she quickly said that she was busy so she asked another employee to help me. This employee was somewhat friendly but seemed like she was rushing to put the colors on my face. I did get my one sample but I wanted to sample another color and told me ANOTHER employee was going to get that for me. I didn't like that they kept leading me to another employee on the floor. The other time I was here, one of the women helped me look for a foundation. She stayed with me the whole time and was actually friendly. Also, the two first employees were talking through their headsets while they were with me. I understand they have to communicate, especially when it's busy. I just feel like they should pay attention to a customer when helping. This location needs some employee training because I'm not only one who feels like some of the employees are rude. I had an instacart order here that was kind of a lot. Cara helped me and my girlfriend find everything in under five minutes and then helped us find a new acne regiment right after. We weren't even purchasing anything for ourselves but still had the most amazing experience. Some staff members are really nice and then there are some that seem like they just don't care to help. I don't know why, but every time I walk into a Sephora I'm always hesitant to ask for assistance. You'll either get someone who is over the moon to help you or someone that seems bothered/trying to avoid customers. Today I was a little annoyed as I browsed the Make Up For Ever line. I noticed the Ultra HD Pressed Powders on display, but they were out of the translucent one. Typically, the staff will check in the drawers underneath for extra inventory. I asked the lady in the front if she can help me check if they had any more in stock. She really tried to tell me "no, we've discontinued this item"...!! There's no way Sephora would ever ever ever discontinue one of their best sellers that they've had for years. Didn't believe her, but double checked online that they do still carry the product. She was nice, but just seemed lazy and needed a reason to stray away from customer service. I said forget it and bought the loose powder form instead. I love this wc store but have serious concerns about the new employees due to desperate hiring. They are misinformed about many of the products, stating that the formulas do things that are contrary to product descriptions online, and say they cannot provide samples due to rules they are all confused about because they all say and do different things depending on what day it is. Nobody wants to take beauty advice from amateurs. Nobody wants men with long dirty fingernails handling their service. I had a question about a device not a single soul in the store could answer. I haven't stepped inside this Sephora in a while, almost a year or so. Everything's been remodeled and changed. There's a beauty studio where they can do a mini make over in 15 minutes: eyebrows, contour, eyeshadow, etc. not to mention its walk ins! I had a complimentary make over because my boyfriend got me 100$ giftcard and when I tried to use it while on vacay, it wasn't activated. Turns out, when he purchased the giftcard, they were having problems with their system so it wasn't activated. Pierre, the manager whom I spoke with was very nice and understanding. He told me about the mishap and wanted to fix the situation for me. Angela was my assigned make up artist and she knew exactly what I wanted. I was going to a wedding so I said I needed a neutral smokey eye & she did an amazing job! She was nice, funny and informative which made the session very enjoyable. I learned a few tips as well. The girls here are always really helpful and kind. It's like no matter how busy they are, they always find time to check on me and ask me if I need anything. I'd say the service at this location is much better than other locations I regularly frequent. It's never hard to get someone's attention to get a sample, answer questions, or grab any products that aren't already out. This review maybe biased because I love Sephora. I don't know why but every Sephora I visit I always have a very good experience at the store and with staff. And I don't even expect much when I come to the store. They greeted me when I came in at this location. I circled around and a staff asked me if I needed anything which I did. One question was answered right but the second question was like so foreign. But she referred me to the manager and she knew right away what I was looking for. One thing though is that not all the staff's product knowledge that are equal. Some may know more, some less. I am a Sephora junkie. I keep up with the latest products and a subscriber. I think I look at the app every day and at least open the email they send me even if I may not read it. I'm even subscribe to Sephora Play so I get products every month. As a member you get points that you can redeem for free products. You also get birthday gifts plus other perks (free classes, shipping, special coupons, make overs) depending upon the type of membership you have. I love that a lot of the products they sell maybe pricey but they're cruelty free. Most of the products also have no pthalates, parabens, or sulfates. I've been to this store many times and my recent visit was great. These days I buy a lot of products online. But I come to the store if there's a new product I'd like to swatch or see in person. The funny thing is that I don't even wear a lot of make up and I like the no make up look. On this visit I wanted to see the container for the new Smashbox Primerizer. I got to try this in my Play box last month and I love it. There's a big prize difference in sizes online and I just had to see it in person to help me decide since it's not that cheap plus I wanted to swatch the new Too Faced gold palette. Had a make over done yesterday. Alex helped me from scratch since I don't know anything about applying foundation, primer, powder... What brush goes with what. The session lasted about an hour and she kept asking me if I will remember the steps so i asked her to write everything down for me. I tried to replicate what Alex taught me today but I need to practice more. I love going to sephora coz they have the Murad products that I use. And you accumulate points that you use to redeem samples, like lipsticks among other things. I'm saving mine for something big. They didn't have the one product I use but they helped me order it on line. So far the employees have been very helpful. read more

I'm really surprised to see such bad reviews of this Sephora store. I usually shop at Sephora for most of my makeup/bath products, so I'm in the store a couple times a month. I've been going to this location since I've moved to Walnut Creek over a year ago. I love all their products and especially the variety which they carry. They have a great return policy, so you can try a new product and not get stuck with it if it doesn't work for you. Whenever I've been there, someone always greets me, and usually one or two reps will ask if I need help with anything. If I have any questions, they have always answered them and have even helped me look for certain products. I also love the freebies you get with your Insider's Card (which is free!), so you get to sample new products in generally generous sizes. Last month, they had samples of Go Smile teeth whiteners and Sephora brand bodywash. Yesterday, they were giving away travel size samples of Philosophy Microdelivery face wash, under eye creams, etc. They also offer free demos of certain products. This weekend, I've signed up for a free facial and then makeup consultation! Not bad! I think there are rude people at all retail establishments, but overall this Sephora location has been a good experience for me whenever I go, and I go there a lot! read more

I was nervous about going to Sephora and working with an artist who's work I've never seen. And this location is exceptionally busy and staff could easily be overwhelmed by the volume of people but Taylor was professional, friendly and knowledgeable of the products. $90 is a steal for the look she did. Went to this Sephora a few months ago and got some Gucci lip gloss stain. Talked to a team member for thirty minutes about the lip gloss. To make sure it would not smudge or come off when you drink or eat she said no it doesn't. She said she was in fact wearing it from the night before I was amazed at how good it looked and bought it. I didn't use it right away because I have tons of lipsticks and lipglosses. So when I went to use for the 1st time it was 3 months later and it smudged horribly and I went back to store to see if I can do anything but at that point they said it was too late to do anything. I'm not upset about it being to late I'm upset about the team member lying to me and I feel/ felt tricked into buying something that I told her I didn't want to get!! I've been to this location multiple times throughout the years especially when I grew up living in the Bay Area. I recently came here for a custom makeover appointment that I got free ($50 makeup purchase value) from my VIB Status ( Beauty Insider). The employee Jessica who did my makeover was very nice and she listened to what I wanted. I told her I'm familiar and comfortable with makeup already but I just wanted to see how someone else would do my makeup to get some new ideas. She incorporated a few products that I already own and she also brought out some new ones for me to try! I'm usually skeptical of other people doing my makeup because sometimes they don't really know what they're doing but Jessica was great! She didn't force or push any sales which I liked! Most of the employees here are very friendly and helpful. Especially Sandy. However, there's one employee who I try to flag down for assistance (by the skincare section) and she ignores me or she acts slightly annoyed when she does help me. Meanwhile, she is helping two women who look like they're in their 40s... I don't know if it's because I'm 21 and I look young--like I shouldn't be taken seriously as a customer. I may be wrong about this, but this is just what I've observed from her specifically. I don't know her name but she has straight red dyed hair (or auburn.. not sure). I once had an LTR with a make-up artist, so I know more about make-up than your average red-blooded, straight male, learned mostly by osmosis and proximity rather than personal experience! So eye liner versus mascara, matte vs gloss, day vs night make-up, concealer vs. rouge are not baffling terms or concepts for me, at least in theory, not hands on! The name Sephora is partly derived from the Greek word Sephos, meaning beauty, and the name of Moses' wife, Zipporah. Not a bad choice, considering most cosmetics are sold based on the idea of selling to women something between Hope, and a Miracle in a bottle to be beautiful. Genie could have been a good runner-up name, but somehow a garage door opener company grabbed that. Maybe Helen (of Troy fame), whose face launched a 1,000 ships, was on the list? How do you know whether the cosmetics are expensive or cheap? (er, I mean value priced?) .......By the color and type of clothes of the make-up artists and beauty advisors (sales people), that's how! - Black, tight fitted designer clothes are de rigueur for those at high-end department stores like Suks Fifth Avenue and Needless Markup. - Black, designer knock-offs are worn in the mid-priced department stores like Macy's. - Black H&M outfits or smocks are worn in places like Sephora. - And if they are wearing Blue, Green or Orange smocks, well, your in a drugstore like Walgreen's, Rite-Aid or Target! - If they are wearing a white smock, either you are at a more natural brand like Clinique, or you're in your doctor's office getting Botox! This location is in the suburban-swank that is the Broadway Plaza of Walnut Creek. Even though W.C. is 90% Caucasian, and the average age is close to Moses, the women working here are 20's somethings and nearly all women of color. I guess they weren't used to talking to men, because I was in a hurry and nobody asked to help me as I walked up and down the aisles looking for what I came for. Not even a free parfume sample sniff spray like at Macy's, or a free 5 minute make-over from the make-up artists so I could load up with GWP (gifts with purchase). Someone finally asked me if I needed help finding something, and I pointed to the printout from the website in my hand and said I am looking for this. They gave me a little attitiude then pointed me in the right direction. What am I doing in Sephora? Well, it was Mother's Day recently, but that wasn't the reason. My FaveRel wanted to cut her hair, and get a lighter weight Hair Turban for after a bath or shower. Sephora has a nice micro fiber one, lightweight and more absorbant than terry, but not cheap, at $20. But much better than those run of the mill cheapo turbans you get at Bed, Bath and Beyond or your local beauty supply store. BTW, people at BBandB don't wear Black. You do the math. read more

Let me just start off by saying that these 5 stars are thanks to one person who made my experience here absolutely amazing: Marychris I've been looking for a good eyebrow pencil for a while now, but was either too lazy to stop by a Sephora or just didn't have time. In the past I've ordered a few products online from various websites but wasn't too happy about how the color matched with my eyebrows. I decided to finally stop by here and see what the beauty experts had to say. As I walked up to the Anastasia Beverly Hills display and looked at all the different color options for the eyebrow pencils, I was definitely overwhelmed by all the color options. I glanced around to see if any associates were nearby for me to ask for help. I noticed that Marychris was a few feet away from me, taking out the trash. Before I could even get halfway through my statement "Could you help me pick out a brow pencil? I'm not sure what color my eyebrows are" she quickly replied TAUPE! It was as if she read my mind LOL. I looked at Taupe and instantly knew that was not the color I'd ever choose if I was picking out a color all by myself (which goes to show you how much I don't know about color-matching). I was ready to just pick up a pencil and head to the registers to pay for it when I saw that Marychris had set down the trash, cleaned her hands, and was offering to demo the color on my eyebrows for me to see. She literally stood there and from what it felt like haphazardly drew on one of my eyebrows, but when I looked in the mirror I was shocked that 10 seconds of her free-handing my eyebrow with a pencil made my eyebrow look better than I ever thought it could look. This girl had skill!! Not to mention, Taupe matched my eyebrow EXACTLY. I was extremely impressed at this point, and really thankful that she had taken the time to stop what she was doing and help me out. I'll definitely be back to this location, solely due to Marychris. Sephora....the place I go to for the necessary tools for me to get glam. When I walk into any Sephora, my eyes glitter at the sight of color pots galore and the menagerie of multicolored glass perfume bottles that line the wall. I catch my breath to see which make up line to peruse first. It's not that I don't wash my hair. My hair gets really dry and brittle easily with swimming in chlorine, heat styling, and even through regular shampooing. If I find that after a day, my roots get slightly oily, I spray this stuff on to absorb the oil and rejuvenate the bounce until my next shampoo. All natural, no chemicals, good for sensitive scalps...this product is all around good stuff. My daughter spent $50 at the store to get a makeover the other day. She was curious about make up and did it just for fun. She is only 13 years old and Selena made my daughter looks like a prostitute. If she is a professional make up artist she should know what kind of make up is suitable for a 13 year old girl but obviously she doesn't. I LOATHE THIS SEPHORA! There are no other words for it. Yes, I am from the East Bay. Yes, this Sephora is only 15min away from my house. Yes, I would rather get my ass out to downtown SF than shop at this location. Yes, the salespeople are horrible and need an attitude check. Every single time I'm here, I need to flag down someone in order to get help. It's ridiculous, I mean why are they even here if they're not even doing their job. In this economy, I'm sure there are hundreds of people out there after your job. And when I am able to flag someone down, I'm greeted with the biggest attitude ever followed by an eyeroll by someone who obviously does not want to help me. I'm not ever rude to any of them so this behavior is unwarranted. I have only been able to deduce that it's because they hate their jobs and don't want to help. It's your damn job, so deal! Like other Yelpers have stated, you practically have to dress to the nines in order to get some decent service here. But sorry Sephora, for a tshirt and jeans kind of girl like myself, you and your horrible salespeople aren't worth the extra prep time and I will gladly take my business elsewhere. read more
