Let me just start off by saying that these 5 stars are thanks to one person who made my experience here absolutely amazing: Marychris I've been looking for a good eyebrow pencil for a while now, but was either too lazy to stop by a Sephora or just didn't have time. In the past I've ordered a few products online from various websites but wasn't too happy about how the color matched with my eyebrows. I decided to finally stop by here and see what the beauty experts had to say. As I walked up to the Anastasia Beverly Hills display and looked at all the different color options for the eyebrow pencils, I was definitely overwhelmed by all the color options. I glanced around to see if any associates were nearby for me to ask for help. I noticed that Marychris was a few feet away from me, taking out the trash. Before I could even get halfway through my statement "Could you help me pick out a brow pencil? I'm not sure what color my eyebrows are" she quickly replied TAUPE! It was as if she read my mind LOL. I looked at Taupe and instantly knew that was not the color I'd ever choose if I was picking out a color all by myself (which goes to show you how much I don't know about color-matching). I was ready to just pick up a pencil and head to the registers to pay for it when I saw that Marychris had set down the trash, cleaned her hands, and was offering to demo the color on my eyebrows for me to see. She literally stood there and from what it felt like haphazardly drew on one of my eyebrows, but when I looked in the mirror I was shocked that 10 seconds of her free-handing my eyebrow with a pencil made my eyebrow look better than I ever thought it could look. This girl had skill!! Not to mention, Taupe matched my eyebrow EXACTLY. I was extremely impressed at this point, and really thankful that she had taken the time to stop what she was doing and help me out. I'll definitely be back to this location, solely due to Marychris. This girl is super talented and knowledgeable, and my #1 go-to person if I ever have another question regarding make-up. read more

Some of the staff are rude not pleasant don't say hi don't acknowledge the customer. I'm a rouge member and it's upsetting. Today I was there, didn't buy anything today but asked a lady for a sample. She didn't even say hello, grabbed the product no communication stood with a negative facial expression just handed the sample and walked away. While I am a huge fan of Sephora, I'm not a huge fan of this particular location. Don't get me wrong, I'll still shop here simply because of the cosmetics and skin care products they carry and because it's the closest Sephora location to where I live. However, their customer service leaves plenty to be desired. The level of helpfulness is totally hit or miss at this store. Some of the staff is completely friendly and willing to help you, but many others look like they're trying to avoid you like the plague, or if they do offer help, it's with a little bit of attitude. The other reason I don't like this location is because it's tiny. There is no room to maneuver in there, even on days that it's not so busy. The displays are just too close together. I'm surprised my clumsy ass hasn't broken anything in there bumping into one display or another. In short, even though I don't really like this store, I'm basically a captive audience because of the brands they sell and because I like getting Sephora Beauty Insider points to get free stuff. read more

I normally shop at the Powell Street Sephora in SF. After my experience at the Walnut Creek location today, I will continue to shop at Powell Street Sephora. The cashier (ethnic looking light olive skin, garish red lipstick and nearing 50 -- avoid her at all costs!) was impossibly rude to a customer in front of me. I believe the customer was trying to make a return. The cashier was being snooty and provoking the customer. The customer was extremely upset and ended up saying she would never shop at Sephora again! Now, I don't know how true that is, but why did the cashier allow the brouhaha to escalate to such a high level when there were customers in line watching? And why egg the customer on? Why not just solve the problem and be done? I put my purchases down and walked out of the store. Even if the customer was in the wrong, she shouldn't have been treated like a petty thief. Is this how the Walnut Creek sales associates are trained to treat all their customers, including me potentially? To "win" at any cost? No thanks. I'll stick with the much friendlier and much more professional Powell Street Sephora. read more

My daughter spent $50 at the store to get a makeover the other day. She was curious about make up and did it just for fun. She is only 13 years old and Selena made my daughter looks like a prostitute. If she is a professional make up artist she should know what kind of make up is suitable for a 13 year old girl but obviously she doesn't. I literally cried as soon as I saw her face and made her wash her face. It was that bad. read more

I have a love hate relationship with this store that's been going on since they opened. LOVE the samples HATE that their stock is always low, the staff is useless, and being told "you can go online." Then explain to me why you have a job? Seriously! The staff seems to be engaged in conversations with each other and have no problem being sarcastic with customers. I brave a trip maybe once a year at the most to this store. Online is better! If you are desperate for samples then stop in but be warned it won't be a glowing experience. read more

Hated my experience here. I was simply looking around, specifically the perfume area and a lady working there walks up to me and disturbingly leans over to look inside my bag. She tries to play it off as if she's speaking to someone through her headset as I turn towards her. Then I look behind me and there's another lady just standing there watching me. Sephora really has a great return policy. They truly stand by the products that they sell and will take anything back that didn't perform the way you expected or just simply didn't like. Ok, so I don't live on this side of the bay, but I was visting family and wanted to take my little coussin in to buy some makeup brushes and show her some of the eye shadows that I use. I walked in and 2 ladies who worked there just looked at us and didn't say one word. Ummm....really? The sephora I usuall go to they say Hi and don't shove you off like you're nothing. Plus it just seems really dirty in here. There mascara display was nasty, the bottles were leaking and were covered in dry mascara. I really think instead of talking, they should clean some of their products. I may look young, but I'm not, and I'm not stupid, I know what customer service is supposed to be like! No one asked us if we needed help, no one asked us if we were finding everything ok. There were only 3 people in the store at the time with at least 6 associates there. 2 of them were playing with the no no hair remover and were blocking the isle. WTF?!?! This place sucks so badly, I was going to spend $100 on brushes for my coussin, but there are such snobby bitch's in there, we left. If you saw the amount of cosmetics, hair products, and skin care we have in our house, you would tell me I really don't need to be coming here but yes, I am totally addicted to new products. I was the happiest girl ever when they opened up this location because I used to travel all the way to Stoneridge and SF to shop for make up. This location doesn't carry all the lines that the other stores mentioned does but it will do because it carries the more popular ones. So far, so good. I have been OBSESSED with skin care goods since I was the young age of 13, I have done extensive research on great products, which eventually lead me to getting my esthetician licence ( never did much with it, but I learned a lot) and I will certainly pay a few extra bucks if I know the product actually works well. As for makeup, I'm not nearly as obsessed, but I certainly have had my share of trying to skimp and save a few bucks by getting some cheaper brand in hopes that it will work just as well as the higher end products, which usually leaves me realizing I'm loosing money by having to spend gas as well as my time, to return these cheaper brands.....that's why I rely on such places as Ulta and as of recently, Sephora. Until recently, my go-to beauty place was Ulta, well now since I live back in the Concord/WC area, I have found Sephora to accommodate me with my must have makeup necessities. Sephora is located in downtown W.C, right next to David M Brian and right across from Starbucks. I really adore the higher end- black and white color scheme that Sephora portrays. And what I really admire, is that everyone seems so genuinely friendly and helpful, something you don't really encounter at similar stores. I came here several times recently to get my Urban Decay Eyeliner and a Smashbox bronzer. The whole Sephora team has been extremely accommodating and friendly on both my visits which is greatly appreciated. Prices also seem to be comparable to Ulta other than they just carry several different brands. Sephora...my new go-to beauty provider. read more

I had the best experience at this Sephora yesterday. I went in looking for a new everyday face wash after my go-to got discontinued. One of the workers there (I wish I remembered his name) helped me find a new face wash and toner and even gave me a sample of his favorite mask to try.After that he set me up with Susy to get a free facial since I was spending a certain amount on skin care. My skin is still glowing the next day! She was super friendly and knowledgeable as well. While I was getting my facial the man who helped me find a new face wash helped my boyfriend address his skin concerns which he was super excited about. We both went home with smiles on our squeaky clean faces. So thank you to the both of them! Next time I need something from Sephora I'm coming back to this location. read more

First off, I love Sephora. I dont know what it is about this location but I have never had a truly great experience here. The staff are often rude, completely ignoring the customers or they hover around like you are going to steal something. They often cannot answer any questions about the products they are selling and are generally pretty useless. The store itself is small, the testers are often gross looking, broken, etc. and they are at least 50% of the time out of stock of what I went in there to get. I would much rather take the trip to Emeryville as that Sephora has better staff, a better stock of products and there are also much better shops around it. Overall, this location is bad. Skip it and order online or make it out to Emeryville or San Francisco. read more

I needed two new foundations since the brand I used for decades changed their ingredients and looked orange on me. Carly was awesome. She really listened that I needed one lighter foundation similar to my old one for tennis and a heavier one for other events. She gave me a IT foundation with a high SPF for tennis. She gave me a Dior foundation for other events that was age appropriate for my skin. She also sent me an email and added the products to my beauty insider profile. I've wanted to come here for a while but it's difficult now with a toddler. Well, not just any toddler but *my* toddler is, shall we say, a spirited child. Others would call him a genuine pain-in-the-ass whenever you try to go out shopping or to restaurants. Thankfully, we lined up a babysitter on Saturday so my wife and I could go out like civilized adults. That was the perfect time to check out Sephora. My first cologne in the early 80s was Drakkar Noir. I'm not quite sure why I picked it but it seemed cool to get a black bottle of perfume. I think that during my college days, I wore mostly Calvin Klein fragances: Obsession, CK One and CK Be. Shortly after graduating from college, I switched to Hugo Boss for some unknown reason and I've been pretty much faithful to that brand for the last 15 years. Recently, however, I thought it was time to try something new. Despite the fact that this place was extremely busy and full of double-X chromosomes when we came in, service was friendly and efficient. I sampled about 2 dozen fragrances here at Sephora and after about 15 minutes I narrowed my choice down to Égoïste by Chanel. It actually reminds me a lot of Hugo Boss but seems a little more wise and distinguished. Perhaps I'm just totally full of shit but I ended up buying the perfume anyway and I'm enjoying it so far. read more

Kinda ticked off at Sephora! I have spent so much money there and have received one sample on one visit and one an another, two total in my 10 plus visits. I see folks getting samples with there purchases and they dont ask. I mean I spent $401 IN ONE TRIP AND GOT NOTHING! I was shocked when I got home and not one sample. Not a happy camper. When I buy online, I get three and the site says you get them in the store. Everyone seems to get samples except for me. That really gets to me. I did go in last night and pick up Glam Glow and loved it! Got no samples and was told they had no more, yet I saw the one under the display, walked up to the guy working the door and asked to purchase that one, he got his manager and was given permission to sell it to me. That was cool, but if a customer asks for something while standing in from of it, and they say they are sold out, maybe they should have offered it to me! read more

But this place is disgusting, this lady in the cashier keeps on calling me "my friend" "my friends" and she is so loud, why cant she talk normal and not scream? I don't know why it's so lowly rated. I received excellent service when I was here. I was immediately greeted and I was helped with finding foundation and concealer. Ozzy helped me out. He was so nice and he was very knowledgeable about the products. He was able to match me and he gave me some samples. He did a great job applying my makeup as well. A sales girl asked what I needed help with right away but when I told her, she pointed to another sales girl and told me to ask her. I was a little annoyed and thrown off by that but whatever. I walk to the next sales girl and she was amazing!! Helped me find the perfect primer/foundation combo for my skin and did my make up right away for me! Where to begin? The Good: I love this store! I love the products they carry, their adorable displays, and the fact that there is so much to choose from! Sephora is one of my favorite stop-in places. I can get my hair, makeup, and body products all in one stop (well...for the most part). And I don't have to move counter-to-counter and deal with employees who are trying to earn their commission. LOVE IT! The Bad: My cousin and I were shopping for her sister's birthday and were looking for a Marc Jacobs perfume. We asked for the price of one of the perfumes on display because it didn't say and were interested in a ball park figure. The employee that was standing nearby was a younger girl and we asked her. She looked at us, dead serious and said, "I don't know." And then she walked away. She didn't offer to look up the price or even direct us to someone who would. We then asked another employee and that employee said she would find out for us. The rude girl who wasn't helpful from before told the other one that she would, "have to check the computer which is a big hassle." Ummm...maybe don't work in customer service if you don't intend on actually helping out a customer. Needless to say, we were kinda amused. It happens... I came by to pick up a product I saw in a video by James Welsch and was greeted by Ryan, who offered his assistance in helping me look for it. He offered me hand sanitizer and directed me where to go, but I've never bought skin care from Sephora so I was in the right section, just couldn't locate the product and Judith came by. She asked me if I needed anything else and I actually was curious about a new foundation by Fenty beauty and Judith helped me find my color. However, my color wasn't available but I picked up primer that was 50% off that day. When I went to check out, Maddie greeted me, she cleaned the surface before I put my products down. I asked her where I can purchase I can buy the compact Milk cream blush (i picked that and mascara for my birthday gift last year and I loved it and somehow it disappeared from my make up bag). Maddie told me I could get one today if i opened up a credit card. I don't really shop at Sephora too much, I can make my makeup last but Maddie pointed out i bought skin care products and I was interested in buying that Fenty foundation so I opened a credit card. i got to save my 15% off too for a later date (When I can come get that foundation) and when they offer a week of 8% cashback. I swear I don't work for Sephora haha but Maddie made me feel good about doing it! As I was leaving I remembered to ask for lash brushes, before COVID, you could just grab a few of these. Nick was in view and I asked him if I could get some ( I have lash extensions) and he was really awesome and gave me about five of them. Are all Sephora stores impossible to move around in? Seriously, this store has become way too popular, and the Walnut Creek location was not built to accommodate the hoards of beauty-obsessed shoppers, myself included. I am a total Sephora addict, but the best locations to avoid crowds and get that personalized "can I help you find something?" attention are the Vintage Oaks (Novato) store and Union Street in SF. Otherwise, bring a snack with you because you'll be waiting in line a while... PS - Korres Quercetin & Oak anti-wrinkle cream (pm) and Murad Skin Perfecting Day lotion (am) are miraculous! read more

I haven't had a makeover since I got married. Now divorced and in my 40s I felt my old tricks are not really working. I really needed a new makeover so I scheduled a appointment. I arrived and Janna helped me with my makeover. Her makeup was amazing! But I'm lazy so I told her that I need the bare minimum. She would show me how to apply my liners (eyebrow and eyeliner) on one eye and make me do the other eye. A girl needs to learn! I messed up every time...it was sad. But she would say "no problem, we can fix that". I took pics of myself during my "transformation" and send it to the gfs to see what they thought. I was happy with the results. One of my friends from NY was vising and I toured her around Walnut Creek. She very specifically wanted to go into Sephora because she chipped her nails, wanted to repair them, and didn't have the nail polish with her to fix them. We wandered in, the place was crowded, and no one looked at us. We finally found the nail polish right next to to the line for the cash register. As you may imagine, this made it hard to maneuver! Someone did come up to us eventually and ask if we needed anything and we tried to get a missing shade of nail polish, unfortunately they were out. I was with my husband when I went into Sephora. I told him, "You're going to hate it in here." He told me afterwards how right I was. Like many other Sephora stores, the atmosphere is total sensory overload. Loud-ish techno/dance music with obnoxious vocals, bright white tile floors, clean lines, narrow isles, tons of people, many of them wearing a lot of very dramatic make-up (which kind of scares me). Basically, the "fashion avant-garde" that Sephora takes delight in is what we've come to expect, and that's what you get here. I had a pretty good experience at this Sephora. I spent some time trying to get someone's attention, but eventually, a very sweet representative with a vintage, classy look approached me. They were out of a product that I had a read a review of, but the representative was able to recommend a great liquid liner and an awesome mascara. She didn't try to sell me what I didn't need. I was able to get out before my husband's head had a chance to explode. Next time, I'll let him run around GameStop. read more

I LOVE Sephora- the company in general, but this is my go to location. I almost always have excellent service (even when I come in right before closing), you get to sample all the products- perfume, make up, and it's generally a fun place to shop. The beauty insider card affords you a free sample for every $100 spent, AND you get a birthday present :) I took my mom in today for a makeover, as it was her birthday, and she deserved something fancy. You are asked to purchase a $50 gift card in exchange for the makeover, which I gladly did... The stylist who did my mom's makeup was phenomenal. She listed to my mom about what sort of "look" she was looking for, and had great suggestions for her skin tone. I am a big fan of Bare Escentuals "Buxom" lipgloss, and I buy almost exclusively at THIS Sephora. read more

The customer service here is awesome! The employees seem to be very knowledgable when it comes to the products, even the cruelty free brands & whether they are sold in China or not.. (Btw if they are sold in China then the company is not really cruelty free) which is important to me. Love the return policy and all the free gifts! The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the lighting. Trying Products on in store is absolutely wonderful! But I do advise asking someone for a hand mirror and looking at the swatches on you outside in natural lighting. Many products I thought looked good and natural on in store looked dull and lifeless on me outside, and others looked too warm or even yellow inside but looked absolutely stunning and natural in literally any other lightning. I don't spend too much time under fluorescents so seeing the swatches in the sun helped me a lot! read more

I've gotten everything that I ever went looking for, and much more from here. Besides, this is such a fun place to browse around for the new latest and greatest products on the market. Customer service is always a hit or miss here, for me. Every time I've had a question about a particular product and/or cosmetics line, I'd have to walk around the store back and forth couple times to find an associate that can help. And when I do flag down an associate, they would have to go find someone that actually knows anything about that product. One note that I made to myself is that if I needed any knowledgeable service from their associates, I should definitely avoid the weekends. It is way too crowded, and I don't get helped adequately. I should head down there the next time I go looking for something during the weekdays instead. But this is where I discovered my now favorite all-natural "Bite beauty" brand of lipsticks. IDEAL TIME TO VISIT: FIrst think in the morning on weekdays. Ask for Liz. This locations feeds that whole region of the very populated Contra Costa East Bay. They replenish their inventory quickly and get packed with visitors just as fast. Make sure the items you're looking for are even carried in the store. They're phenomenal with prepping samples if you need to avoid the crowds. Call ahead for unusual products that typically only carried on Sephora web or specific stores, you babies. You can also pull up their app and double-check for specific products while in store as well. EXTRA STAR: This busy locations gets a lot of pro make-up artists brand reps at the store. read more

I came to this location because my friend needed to do some last minute shopping for Christmas. It was crowded, but not so bad that you couldn't get around without bumping into people. My friend got help from a young lady who was polite, but you could just tell that she didn't really want to be there. She ran off as soon as she could without asking if we needed anything else... I guess she wasn't that polite. Whatever. I gave it 4 stars because of the lady at the counter. I wish I knew her name because she was very helpful and sweet. She had a conversation with us instead of just ringing us up, she looked for something that my friend wanted (they didn't have it), and she gave both of us samples even though I didn't buy anything. I can't complain about that. She did more than she had to and gave me hope about the customer service there. read more

I LOVE LOVE Sephora the company, however I prefer shopping for all my stuff online. I do however come in to try things in person and check things out before I buy them. This location is right near a Starbucks and near CPK and Crate & Barrel, so it's very lucky. They are all very nice when you enter the store and check up on you. I like how they don't constantly pester you. I love the selection of make-up and perfume and their rewards program is AH-Mazing. This location is a tad small but it's great to come in when it's not crowded. read more

Came into the store with my mom and appreciated the awesome customer service! My mom bought a Yves Saint Laurent lipstick and I bought the Buxom mascara. Was a little crowded but it was expected on a Saturday. Tip: If you haven't signed up for Sephora's Beauty Insider", it's a must! For every dollar you spend you collect points for mini rewards both at the store and online, and for your birthday you also receive a nice gift! This year I got a Nars mini eyeliner and lipstick. Oh and the more points you collect, the more perks and discounts you'll receive. It won't cost you a penny to sign up, maybe just 5 minutes of your time, but it's worth it if you're a regular shopper. Also, don't be afraid to ask for samples for perfumes or foundations. It's just a great to try things before buying them. One more thing, Sephora also offers 15 minute makeovers for free! Just ask someone who's available. If you're coming in on a weekday you have a higher chance than coming in on a weekend so plan accordingly. read more
