Amazing food, wine and cozy neighborhood vibe. We ordered the bread (pane), burrata and one entrée (manzane with eggplant) to share between the 2 of us. I landed on a Thursday and we were making some impromptu dinner plans. Serafina is close by to our friends' apartment and just so happened to have a cancellation for a table of 4 so we were able to sit down right away. We had great and attentive service all night from Jeffrey. For wine, we tried the Gonc which is a Slovenian bottle per servers recommendation for a different / bold red wine. It was good! The second bottle we tried was an Italian cab and it was on the lighter side. For food you can never go wrong with their focaccia service (so warm and soft... I want to sleep on it lol) and their burrata which comes with this amazing squash and pickled grapes. For entrees, everyone else got the melanzane (eggplant) and I ordered the spaghetti with clams. The noodles were perfectly Al dente with a nice crunch with the toppings. The clams were a little fishy tonight which made the whole dish a little too fishy for my preference. I tried my husband's eggplant and it is just as I remembered from the last time I tried it... rich and acidic atop a bed of delicious angel hair. Serafina's is always a good meal. They really like reservations regardless if the place is busy or not. We came for dinner yesterday and were seated by open windows which we requested and the patio is open as well for outdoor seating but is first come, first served. We had this lovely furbaby to enrich our view and experience. Our waiter was kind and helped us get water out to this cutie. An amazing hole in the wall, cozy, no frills, and packed restaurant! The pasta here was absolutely delicious - I got the mushroom pasta with black truffle butter. It took a little while for our food to arrive, but it was absolutely fine since the quality, cook, and flavor of the pasta was incredible. The servers are very attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. Ended up here by accident because Cicchetti is closed on Monday (now you know that fact as well). But they share a patio with them, so you're not at a total loss. During happy hour on Monday, it was a 15-minute wait for a patio spot on a sunny summer day, so if that's your calling as well, be prepared for a potential wait, especially if you've got more than two. We were hungry but not famished and ordered the cheese plate and the meat board. Both were amazing, and the server's knowledge of the various eats was impressive. The different options were so varied, and the accompaniments were great. I wouldn't change a thing. The pate was especially good. To drink, I had one of their roses, again the waiter was super helpful in describing them. My companion got a cocktail that was amazing, so you can't really go wrong on the drink options. The food was meh. The service ruined the night. Our server didn't seem to be too into it. They offered no recommendations, pepper was inconvenient for them and when they carded the birthday boy they didn't even notice the date and wish him a happy birthday. To close out our meal the busing staff swooped in and took his bowl while he had the last bread in his hand that he was about to finish off in the sauce in the bowl before we could say anything. The four stars would be minimized if we were allowed to dine in. This is a Coronavirus restaurant review of take out pasta and meatballs. Take out is a "new ballgame" for many restaurants, and take out pasta seems to pose issues for most kitchens. My wife, being Italian and having learned to prepare pasta from Grandma, was going to prepare pasta and meatballs for her birthday. The rolling pin was already on the counter. I refused to allow her to work on her birthday, and ordered out from Serafina, our first taste of Serafina's cooking. While the Rigatoni Bolognese was cooked al dente, they were very heavy and the sauce rather bland. We were in Bologna in December, so maybe our taste buds have a spoiled memory. The meatballs were made with pork and beef, but the pork punched out the beef, and the flavor was decidedly piggish. Not my personal favorite. Desserts were good, but overly sweet, in my opinion. We will try Serafina again when dining in is a viable option. Seattle has few Italian restaurants, the Northwest not a particular stop for Italian and Sicilian immigration. We're used to NYC, Chicago, and Italy unfortunately. I do miss Il Covo, which has disappeared under the crunch of Covid-19. I could drive to West Seattle to get Il Covo's pasta, but with the bridge out, that's a schlep. Who know's what Seattle's dining scene will look like once the curtain is lifted? read more

I recently chose this restaurant for a date in Seattle, and it was lovely. It was dimly lit & well decorated, with a welcome vibe. My date was a chef so I let him order and we tried a few entrees to share. Our server was good and the food was tasty overall. My favorite part of the meal was the gnocchi, the flavors were so good together and we finished it all. The steak was good but the potato squares were a bit dry. It was not quite cooked to medium as I requested, but I still enjoyed it. The chicken wasn't edible, as it was undercooked, the bones inside were still bloody and raw. We sent it back and were told by our server that it's due to the brine that the chicken is marinated in. My date, a 20+ year executive chef, disagreed. I asked for a second drink, but I think our server forgot. We weren't charged for it so that was fine. We did not have dessert because we were just too full, but it was an enjoyable dinner experience & a memorable date. read more

Disappointed. My husband I had come here many times in the past few years ago and loved it. So, we stopped in recently and ugh..we didn't have a great experience. We sat +10 minutes before anyone came by to offer a drink or anything for that matter. There were only a few other tables..so not sure if everyone as on a break or something?? We started with the meatball appetizer oh my gosh we thought it may have been the cheese on top but it was the entire meatball...so SALTY!! Our entire meal, everything was so salty. I ordered the special pasta with mushrooms and my husband had the Amatriciana and he ate about 1/4 of his meal. We both were shocked at the amount of salt in our dishes. We asked for bread and our waiter brought a few slices and then charge us $4 or $5....can't remember exact amount but for two slices seemed ridiculious. The restaurant was extremely cold as well..no coziness going on and I recommend NOT siting near a window especially in the colder months. Our water service was good. I've been meaning to review this restaurant since we've eaten there three times now. Each time has been a memorable evening for all the right reasons. As places have reopened after the shutdown many have been uneven. I would never fault them for that as we all know how difficult everything is these days. Serafina seems to have discovered the secret though. The service is even, timely and polite. Just enough banter one conversation to display genuine interest in your experience there yet not so much as to try to become the experience. Even in the best times many restaurants get this wrong. The menu is fairly diverse and we have enjoyed most of the proteins. The steak is served perfectly prepared and with ample portion of fingerling potatoes and green beans when we were there. The anchovie butter adding just the right amount of decadence. Their take on Bruschetta is fun, toasted slices of French bread with toppings you can add yourself. The Smoked Salmon and the house made hummus with pistachio were great. At the end of the evening, desert was awesome with a decadent flourless chocolate cake and a bit of gelato. All and all, in three visits and after trying many entrees and starters it's a firm yes from us.. oh, and I never even mentioned the salads.. pickled grapes? Omg! read more

Came here with my mom for dinner! This is one of my mom's favorite places to come to lunch, and my first time coming to this restaurant. The overall experience was good with delicious food. The host took my jacket and our waiter began taking our drink orders almost immediately. It was dinner and it felt a little cramped with spacing however my mom reassured me that the atmosphere during lunch is better. Polpo: Braised octopus, fregola sardo, finocchiona, peperonata, parsley, and smoked chili emulsion. Rigatoni Bolognese: Anderson Ranch lamb, fennel sausage, marjoram, and Pecorino. Lasagna: Lamb-pork ragu, béchamel, ricotta, and Grana Padano. Agnolotti dal Plin: Duck confit, sage butter, roasted chestnut, and balsamico. Latticello: Buttermilk cake, coffee mousse, marsala, amaretto caramel, orange, pomegranate, and espresso tuile. Nocciola: Chocolate hazelnut tart, strawberry sauce, and hazelnut praline semifreddo. Affogato: Vanilla gelato and Illy espresso. -------------- The highlights of the meal: Cozze, Rigatoni, Agnolotti dal Plin, and Latticello. Overall delicious food, even the house-infused oil that you dip your bread into was so savory! I had high hopes for the lasagna however it was a little too salty and lacked structure, I was going to say something to the waiter but we finished the lasagna nonetheless. The Cozze was so delightful, the smokiness of the mussels, the flavors of the rich broth, the bread we already had on the table was the perfect match to help soak up the broth, in fact we liked it so much we ended up ordering more bread to go with the broth (we didn't order the grilled bread $3 to the Cozze because we already had bread on the table). Frankly, although we got this dish as an appetizer, I wouldn't mind eating it as an entree... The Rigatoni... My only complaint is that I wish I had more! The rigatoni was cooked al dente and the Bolognese sauce was absolutely perfect for the rigatoni. The Agnolotti was so cute and tasty. The rich flavors from the duck confit and roasted chestnut were the perfect pair with the sage and balsamic vinegar. The sage really brought out all of the flavors in ways I never imagined, this dish inspired me so much that I went to the store the next day to buy sage to try to make an interpretation of this very dish. Alas, I wasn't as successful and am totally okay with returning to Serafina for this dish! The Laticello. Order it. Even if you don't have room. You won't regret it. I would come back to Serafina just for this cake in fact. Imagine a tiramisu but wayyyyyyyy better!!! The combination of the soft buttermilk cake, creamy coffee mousse and hints of the marsala, amaretto caramel, orange, pomegranate, and espresso tuile are spot on. I've been dining at Serafina for 20 years and sadly will not return. My friend and I booked a table on a Tuesday night and the whole experience was off. Both the hostess and waitress were short with us and seemed annoyed that we existed. Only the bartender was friendly and welcoming. The food was OK. I ordered a $46 halibut entree that had about 2 ounces of dry halibut in it. Generally, I like the smaller portions of fine dining but that's taking it a bit far. I guess my friend and I stayed a little too long because someone started sweeping the floor at the table next to us. We ordered appetizer, entrée, dessert, multiple drinks, but felt rushed the whole time. Over $200 for the two of us. I just didn't feel that Serafina charm anymore. We went to Serafina last night. I was hesitant because there is a chain in NY called Serafina that is kind of for tourists. This Seattle restaurant is very different, the waiter said that they are a standalone 37 years old place. We had the best bread and a wonderful salad to start. Wow, wow, wow. I think I would feel justified writing a billion wow's and calling it a review, because Serafina established, for me, an impeccably high standard for Italian cuisine. That said, if my billion wow's can't convince you to drop by this gem of a restaurant, please read on. From the start, the service at Serafina was wonderful. My boyfriend and I made reservations that night, and we did not experience any waits as a result. The hostess kindly took our coats without my having to ask, and the waitress was attentive to our dining experience from start to finish, describing dishes in detail with excitement and patience for the many questions we had (my boyfriend and I are both on the curious side LOL). Shoutout to Beth, who was the best waitress ever! With regards to the food, we began with the pane. The olive oil dip was unique, sprinkled with what seemed like red pepper flakes that added a delightful kick for each bite of the bread. For the mains, my boyfriend ordered the agnello, and I ordered the melanzane, both of which were phenomenal. The agnello was perfectly tender, pairing perfectly with the polenta. The melanzane, Serafina's version of eggplant parmesan, took me back to Rome with one bite. The portions for both dishes were also incredibly generous, and my boyfriend (who calls himself the "bottomless pit") had a difficult time finishing. My only qualm about Serafina is the extremely difficult parking. The only option is limited street parking, which was frustrating even for me, an L.A. transplant. That said, the parking situation is worth it. For me, really good food doesn't just satisfy your stomach or tastebuds but touches some part of you that isn't merely physical. Call me dramatic, but there are foods out there that we call "soul food" for that reason!
