The setting was breathtaking...! Sweeping views of the Pacific, elegant coastal decor, string lights, and swaying palms creating the perfect atmosphere for a special evening. Our cocktails were light, refreshing, and beautifully balanced, made with freshly muddled berries. Service from Brett was impeccable from start to finish; warm, attentive, and professional. Instead of the usual appetizer + entrée route, we decided to build our entire meal around a selection of appetizers so we could sample more dishes. It was an excellent choice! Variety really is the spice of life. We started with the house sourdough focaccia: warm, spongy, and perfectly golden, served with a flavorful dipping sauce that we couldn't stop eating. The crispy saganaki was golden and addictive, with bright, complementary flavors. The crispy calamari was light, perfectly fried, and tossed with capers, fresh herbs, and a zesty lemon-chili aioli. We finished with the garlic harissa chicken kabob: tender, well-seasoned chicken with a tangy harissa yogurt, served with warm flatbread and roasted vegetables. It's a nice space with indoor and outdoor seating. Service, from Lisa, was great. Everything else was a disappointment. Drinks were good but took forever to get to the table. And then there was the food. Menu all sounded great but this kitchen isn't up to the task, and relys on salt to make up for shortcomings. Octopus was so salty it was inedible. Soup was equally salty and, at nearly $30 for a cup, is ridiculously over-priced. Swordfish Tacos had good flavot but were so light on fillings that it was a joke. Maybe, MAYBE, an ounce if fish per 'taco.' Only dish that was halfway decent was Lobster Rigatoni. Still salt forward, but good spice. As Coronado residents, my wife and I used to enjoy bringing out of town guests to Serea because it was once a place we were proud to recommend. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was one of the strangest and most disappointing restaurant experiences we have had in a long time. We brought a guest visiting from out of town and were honestly embarrassed by how poor the experience was from start to finish. The restaurant was only about one quarter full on a weekday evening, yet service was shockingly slow and disorganized. It started with our server fumbling through reservation lists trying to find our name, then acting annoyed when we ordered specific cocktails. At one point, he even asked if we were "old enough to drink," which came off as rude and bizarre. The first round of drinks took around 20 minutes and arrived poorly made. We then waited another 40 minutes just to place entree orders, despite barely seeing our server after appetizers arrived. Ordering a second round somehow went even worse. The server rolled his eyes, made annoyed noises, and acted inconvenienced that we were ordering more drinks at a restaurant charging premium prices. One drink, a dirty martini, took about 30 minutes and arrived with a greasy film on top from bleu cheese olives sitting in it far too long. We asked for a manager, who apologized but then asked whether we wanted sweet or dry vermouth in a dirty martini, which did not inspire much confidence. The remake came back not dirty at all and had to be remade again. After nearly two hours, our entrees finally arrived. The plates were dropped on the table without a word. The chicken and fish were passable, but the sides were awful. Cold, lifeless, and completely forgettable. The broccolini was especially bad. We complained again, and the manager offered to comp the bill. Even then, it took another long wait just to close out. I eventually handed the server $100 cash because we simply wanted to leave and still tip something despite the experience. He then shoved the check open in my face and said, "There's your bill." What made this so disappointing is that we used to love this place. It was somewhere we proudly brought visitors. Instead, we left apologizing to our guest for how uncomfortable and confusing the entire night was. We do not care about free food or comps. We care about receiving a decent dining experience at a restaurant charging $30 cocktails and premium entree prices. Serea has declined dramatically, and management needs to take a hard look at both service standards and overall execution. Do better. read more

Beautiful restaurant in the Del with a view of the outdoor patio and ocean in the back. We went on Mother's Day and still had to wait about 25 min even though we had a reservation. The online ad on their website said that there would be flower crowns for mothers, but the no one seemed to have any awareness about that addition. I get it the families are paying to stay here but can they find somewhere else to rough house other than in front of dinner guests who are paying $200 or more a head ? One star slash negative stars for the parking. $49 for two hours is criminal. Now for the food. The halibut ceviche was lovely and so was the steak tartare. I love that it's served with chips instead of heavy bread like some places. I got a side of bone marrow as well. What a terrible experience and so much worse than last time I went 5 years ago. Where do I start? The hostess didn't want to seat us at our scheduled time and wanted to put us in some table at the back, but we said no. The prices are crazy expensive, but I'm fine paying for high prices if the food is good. In this case, we got the salad and some of the lettuce was brown and the portion was super small. Tons of salt. The branzino and sides were so salty and so lacking flavor. So much butter used everywhere. The server was good but otherwise, terrible meal at incredibly inflated New York prices. Coronado Island is not only one of my favorite places in California but also one of my favorites in the entire nation. It beckons to me like a siren beckons the crew of a ship and is one of the few places I feel at peace. It is also one of my favorite places to spend my birthdays and was exactly the setting of my 41st birthday weekend driving down from Los Angeles with my boyfriend. While strolling the beach by the Hotel del Coronado; it was time to decide on my first birthday dinner of the weekend and Serea (which translates to both 'mermaid' and 'siren'); lived up to its moniker and beckoned us into its beauty. Serea sits beachside by the Hotel del Coronado with walk up access offering both outdoor and indoor dining options (but, come on: this is Coronado! Of course you must eat outdoors!). We arrived on a very congested Friday night but Serea had a table for us in about 20 minutes and were very pleased to learn we were celebrating my birthday. Our table sat on the back patio with a clear view of the ocean and masterpiece canvas of oranges, pinks and yellows of the setting sun that flowed into the candles/ dim lights of Serea. I am sure Serea is gorgeous at all times of day; but I absolutely recommend it at night, especially for a romantic date night. We were greeted by an extremely friendly server (forget his name but he had sleeve tattoos on both arms) who immediately mentioned my birthday before boasting of some of Serea's key dishes. Executive chef Jojo Ruiz - who has more accolades than I have room to type here - offers a surf and turf style menu with a Mediterranean finish using local and ethically sourced ingredients. Be prepared to struggle in what to choose as everything sounds divine! While we contemplated what to order; we put in our cocktail order of a Lavender Moscow Mule (Ciroc Vodka, Pavan, Lavender, Ginger beer, lemon - $24) for me and Passion Star (Tanqueray Gin, passion fruit liquor, Chandon, Citrus foam) for my beau. The cocktails were as beautiful in presentation as Coronado itself and I absolutely adored my Lavender Moscow Mule which was forward on the lavender (exactly how I like it) but without skimping on alcohol. The Passion Star was not too fruity and refreshing with it's tropical notes and delicate foam. For my birthday dinner #1, we started with the Halibut Ceviche (cucumber, lime, avocado, serrano peppers, marinated in Coconut Leche de Tigre - $29) and the House Sourdough Focaccia for my boyfriend (I am Celiac). For my meal, I decided on an appetizer (I was trying to not gain too much weight on my little mini vacation and failed anyway!) of the Grilled Spring Salad (grilled radiccho, fennel, broad bean, whipped goat cheese, smoked almonds, saba vinaigrette - $26) while my love ordered the Grilled Lamb Chops (marble potatoes, mustard greens, charred eggplant puree, chermoula - $69). As expected, the plating at Serea is pure art and upscale but still with the relaxing, coastal island vibes that makes Coronado such a heavenly destination. The Halibut Ceviche was served with a tortilla vassal and coconut-y but spicy with the peppers dancing in a symphony on the tongue with the halibut. The House Sourdough Focaccia was a HUGE brick-sized bread and was loved by my boyfriend. I tried the herb butter served alongside and it was so good, I would have purchased that butter to take home. My Grilled Spring Salad was a perfect mixture of a warm salad but with the coolness of goat cheese with flavors that both stand out and work together in harmony. And last but certainly NOT least: the Grilled Lamb Chops are delicious with its sauce accent and potatoes. Serea is NOT cheap; but the food delivers making the prices somewhat understandable. For dessert, my boyfriend chose the Basque Cheesecake (strawberry preserve, macerated strawberries). Serea also surprised me for my birthday with Salted Caramel ice cream (gluten free-friendly) with a candle. The cheesecake was MASSIVE in size with a charred top, ricotta style. Perfect for those who like their cheesecakes dense and thick. The birthday ice cream was AMAZING and some of the best salted caramel ice cream I've had and I've had a lot! The main issue at Serea was that the food took FOREVER to come to our table. My boyfriend may have aged 20 years before his lamb chops arrived and the cheesecake took so long that you would think they were making an entire cheesecake fresh (come on, you know you only had to slice it - what is taking so long?!). We were never even visited by the server to apologize for the wait. I understand that Serea was busy but this was still disproportionately long. The check also took a snail's pace to arrive. Serea has one of the best dining atmospheres (I would return solely for this) with delicious, artful food and pleasant customer service. On the negative, it is a pricey and the food takes too long to arrive. Despite these flaws, Serea is wonderful and absolutely recommended while in Coronado. read more

Serea is located on the ocean side of Hotel Del Coronado and has a lovely view from their large dining patio. It's a large, bright, open restaurant with a modern Mediterranean theme. The service was friendly and welcoming. We started with lobster bisque and wood grilled octopus. The bisque was good and had a good amount of lobster chunks. The octopus was super tender and tasty. It was served with potatoes which makes it a filling appetizer. For entrees we ordered the spicy lobster rigatoni which had generous chunks of lobster and was very rich. We also had the chicken kebab which is technically an appetizer. It was served on a flatbread with a few pearl onions, cherry tomatoes, and micro greens. The chicken was tender and marinated in harissa. Overall everything went well. The main attraction I would say is the view. read more

We didn't really have any preference for seating, we were sat in their outdoor dining / patio and it was a vibe. A really really chill SD night kind of vibe. We dined at Serẽa Costal last night and timed it perfectly to watch the sunset. The restaurant was busy but the service was on top of it. We started out with the Serea Mezze appetizer and OMG was the farmers cheese was amazing. They could have just gave me that and the pita and I would have been happy with that. We got a bonus appetizer of the octopus due to a hiccup in the kitchen with our dinners. The octopus was seasoned nicely and it was nice of our waiter to bring us this while we waited. When our dinner served I had the Greek Freak ahi tuna and my husband and mother in law split the fried snapper. The tuna was good, but I tried the snapper and that melted in your mouth. The waiter apologized again about our dinner mishap and brought us a cheesecake which was SO good. It's not dense like most cheesecakes, this was light and fluffy. The chocolate cake had 7 layers and had toasted pralines and chocolate sauce drizzled all over it. Ambiance - the outdoor seating was great. The chairs at the tables were very comfortable and the inside of the restaurant was very bright with light. Definitely make your reservation and try to time it when the sunset happens. read more

Fabulous views! The food here is great, and so fresh. This time around we came for just drinks. We walked around the hotel property to see all of the Christmas decor, and then stopped by after for a cocktail. There was a separate outdoor bar area with open seating which was super nice and quick service. What I love about Thai outdoor bar area is that you get to see all of the liveliness of the ice skating and views, while enjoying an outdoor drink in a glass cup. I had the seasonal cocktail, Chocolate Espresso Martini and really enjoyed it! Everyone around us had different cocktails which all looked tasty, so you can't go wrong! read more

Visited Serea on the weekend with one of my girlfriends for an easy brunch and catch up and so glad we chose this spot! One thing to start off with though, is it is located in Coronado and inside the Hotel Del. Parking can, and was, extra tricky, especially on the weekend. Alas, we found parking just in time and it was a short walk there. The view for Serea is gorgeous as it of course, looks out over the beach, and the decor for Serea doesn't fall short of the boho beachy vibes either. We were greeted by two sweet hostesses (who's dresses were SO cute btw) and then seated outside and were greeted by the assistant, then by our main server. We enjoyed 2 espresso martinis with Kahlua added for a sweeter creaminess and then shared the octopus appetizer as well as the shakshuka. Loved both dishes! The octopus was seasoned well, and the texture was the perfect bounciness. I feel I've had good octopus too late in life and just got over being nervous to order it because usually the texture can be gummy and I don't love that. But Serea got it down, and it was a delicious appetizer. It paired well with the mini potatoes and onion on the plate as well. The shakshuka was also flavorful and I love that the bread came chargrilled because it added to the overall flavor. Smokey, tomato forward, and tasty. San Diego alone also lent itself to our experience here simply because it was a beautiful day - sunny, but a cool breeze. We ordered drinks at the outdoor bar next to the restaurant, the bartenders were not friendly and we had to ask for water twice. The martini was a short pour at both the bar and restaurant. The food at the restaurant is mediocre at best. The flatbread appetizer was hard and dry and sparsely dressed with the bland toppings, my $64 filet was cooked fine but came with nothing but arugala on the plate, kids pasta with butter was watery and awful. Best thing was the french fries which were also nothing special. It's not hard to make great fresh food! Especially for these high prices which are expected at somewhere like the Hotel Del but it's like whoever is running that restaurant just doesn't care. We should have walked to Chipotle and brought it back to enjoy the view. Will not be eating at the hotel again during our stay. read more

I recently came here after walking around Coronado for the Christmas lights. I saw that it was Michelin plate 2022. Which made it more intriguing to try! The location was inside the hotel Del and the decoration is very cute and chic. I only came here for the drinks but it was pretty good. They had lots of options and can make any drink of your choice. When you order the hot water and lemon it's came in a cute tea pot and had little honey jars! My group order the ceviche as well and it was fresh. Very tart too, if you love sour and refreshing food! My wife and I went to Sorea for a very special occasion. We were going to be in Coronado anyway, and I picked the restaurant specifically because of its ambiance. It was at the Hotel del Coronado, and most of the restaurant had outdoor seating. What a beautiful setting for a special occasion! I made a reservation days in advance, and we got to the restaurant a little early. As the host was guiding us to our table, I got more and more concerned that we were going to get a table inside. Sure enough, that's what happened. But not only was it inside, but it was probably the worst table in the restaurant. It had no view whatsoever. It was far away from the rest of the action in the restaurant. It was kind of being pushed to one side in a place that was easy to ignore. I asked the host if we could possibly get a table outside, and she informed us that we would have to wait at least 30 minutes for that to happen. So, we decided to suck it up and eat inside. Surely, the food would be good enough and the service efficient enough to make the occasion special for us. It took a long time for us to get our server to come to our table. I was pretty frustrated at the server. But as you'll see later, it was certainly not his fault. We ordered a whole snapper, one and a half pounds, wood-grilled. We also ordered patatas bravas and focaccia. The focaccia came right away and it was really tasty. Then, we waited and waited and waited for our entrée. Eventually, it came and the server de-boned the fish in front of us. It was good, but not great. The flavor was okay, and it was a little bit dry. But overall, it was a decent entree. The patatas bravas was by far the highlight, much better than the fish. The little balls of potato were fried really crispy, and the sauce was on the spicy side, but very flavorful. Then, we waited and waited and waited again for our server, so we could order dessert. After all, we were celebrating. And they had one of my favorite things on the menu, Basque cheesecake. I was very excited to try it. But we kept waiting. Eventually, we saw our server run past us, trying to serve all his tables. That's where my frustration shifted from the server to the restaurant. It was clear that the restaurant was significantly understaffed. I've never seen a server run so fast in a restaurant, especially an upscale one like this. He was trying his best to serve all of his guests, but it was a losing cause. When he finally came to the table with our dessert,I asked him what was going on, if the restaurant was understaffed, and he acknowledged that it certainly was, and he was running his little behind off all night. The cheesecake was as good as I had hoped. It was a great way to end the meal and made the celebration a good one. But for a meal that cost us a lot of money, I would've hoped for more attentive service, and that means more staff. And I would never go back to this restaurant if I wasn't guaranteed outdoor seating. That is the draw, that is the memorable highlight that we were hoping to have. So, overall, it was a fine experience, but for the money, we could've had a much better one somewhere else. read more

I wanted to give a 5 star but couldn't but it wasn't because of the food or the atmosphere. We went there for a business dinner and had reservations for 5:30 it took around 25 minutes for some to even come by to give us water, and that was AFTER one of the hubs coworkers went to talk to management twice! After that the staff did up their service game. Our server gave the table two complimentary appetizers which were delicious. We were gifted the hummus, whipped farm cheese board, we also ordered the calamari which was cooked to perfection. The table had a couple bottles of Duckhorn Red and White wines. I had the filet medium rare, hubs had Ahi and the table shared the beet salad and harissa potatoes. For dessert we shared the strawberry cheesecake, Nutella chocolate cake and Gelato trio. With dessert several of us had Old Fashioned cocktails . We all understood that sometimes places get busy so we all enjoyed our dinners and I'm sure the hub's coworkers will want to go back. read more

I was really looking forward to have dinner at this restaurant for our anniversary. Food wise: the Greek salad was amazing. It tastes like a genuine village Greek salad. The tomatoes and cucumbers were delicious and full of flavor the calamari fell short of the mark , salty and over seasoned. The main dishes were quite disappointing. I had the grilled roasted chicken And Greek potatoes. The chicken was dry and the potatoes tasted reheated. We weee not charged for the dish. The lamb chops were ordered rare but came almost raw. Our server however was the highlight of the evening. Paul was outstanding. He made evening packed with fun. His rating would be 10 out of 5!!. He provided a second heater immediately after he noticed I was cold. He treated us to an anniversary dessert which was hazelnut cake and it was scrumptious. The atmosphere was quite enjoyable and the bus boy checked on us regularly. Sadly the food quality does not meet the expectations especially at that price range. read more

My friend loves it here so we booked a reservation for a dinner hangout. Food was amazing and insanely beautiful. Our server Sean was totally awesome. Had a little trouble at the beginning with the host but overall experience was amazing. Spoke with Darren about the incident and got handle pretty well. Definitely come back again!!! read more

We visited during the holidays and we were disappointed. Pulled up to the hotel and they would not valet park my car because the valet was full. I know it's the holidays and people are visiting to see the lights but I feel like hotel guests and people with reservations at the restaurant should be able to valet. We finally got to the restaurant and we were seated in a corner next to a massive line of people who were waiting to use the restroom. These are people that are not patrons of the restaurant but people that are just walking through the property. Imagine a line of people queued about 10 feet from where you are seated to enjoy dinner. Eventually my wife and two daughters had to use the restroom and it was in terrible shape. Toilet paper all over the place and only two stalls to service the restaurant as well as people walking over from the ice skating rink. I understand it's going to be busy but when you go to a restaurant with your family and spend $400 you expect better treatment than that. The food was good and the service was good but the ambience and facility was severely lacking. read more

Came here for brunch to celebrate my mom's birthday and had a marvelous time. We made a reservation ahead of time, and the restaurant even accommodated us for arriving early. The server was super friendly/spirited (oppa!) and took his time to really walk us through the menu. He also came back to check on us pretty frequently which was greatly appreciated. Although the food took a little bit to come out, we all thought the food was delicious (we particularly liked the octopus, crab benedict, and lobster roll). Highly recommend sitting outside if the weather is nice since there's a beautiful ocean view. Definitely recommend this spot for special occasions! read more

Had high hopes for this spot but was severely disappointed. We ordered the octopus thinking it would be a decent portion of octopus for $30. It was 4 bite sized pieces and with potatoes adding most volume. Not worth the price what so ever. Whole grilled fish was sold at market price. It was the best part of the dinner but again overpriced!!! Patatas bravas: super deep fried and filled with so much aioli of some sort that you couldn't even taste the actual potato. Drinks were solid. SARAGLI dessert was awful. After being recommended by our waitress that it was super delicious we took the recommendation. We also asked for a candle to be lit for a birthday and our waitress said it couldn't be done. Didn't even make the slightest attempt to redeem us with anything else. It came to the table super hard and had no flavor at all. Ice cream ball size felt like was feeding little dolls. The ambiance is nice. That's about it. I don't mind paying good money for food but it needs to wow me. This was not the case! read more
