Unfortunately I got severely ill here from food poisoning. Under no circumstances should you consider ordering the clams and mussels here. I did and spent the rest of my vacation in the bathroom feeling utterly miserable. When I called the restaurant and spoke to a manager - I was told I would get a call back from the general manager. This restaurant is beautiful and located right across the Coronado hotel which was a bonus. I got the bowl clam chowder which was 9/10 and fish and chips were 7/10. Our table also ordered calamari and oysters for apps and since our server went on break, it was never put in the system which is forgivable. But they asked us 2 more times about the forgotten apps when we were already eating our entrees. We ended up still wanting the oysters but came when we were done with the meal. This was my favorite restaurant during my 1 week trip to san diego. The actual building is a boathouse on the water which is pretty cool. The lighting makes it even more enjoyable at night. Service was great even though there was a litttle bit of a wait. It was a little hot as this was during summer, but they do have many fans throughout the restaurant to help cool down the place. I didnt expect everything we ate to be so good. From the bread bowl clam chowder, to the sear scallops, to the fresh tuna, to the ciopinno. Even served good drinks and beer. We ate so much thay we couldn't even think of dessert. They serve very good sized portions that you wont be disappointed by the amount of food and the flavor. Stayed at Hotel Coronado and had a terrible experience at one of their restaurants, so in a 'fool me once' decision, we decided not to eat on property again, and we came over to Bluewater. Old School Seafood spot with excellent service. We had delicious oysters, NE Clam Chowder, a lobster roll and a Louie Salad. Soup was very tasty. Lobster Roll was very good, but the roll is too big and it looks like a smaller amount of lobster than it is. So it kind of detracts from the enjoyment. Still, a good sandwich and good fries. Louie was good, but oddly served with mixed greens rather than traditional romaine or iceberg. While it was good, I'd pass on this one with mixed greens. This place was so good we went three times during our stay. The first time, we had drinks at the bar. Ben, the bartender, was very attentive and made great suggestions. The next visit, we had the cold lobster roll with fries, blackened fish and chips. The lobster roll was so good! The buttered roll was delish! The blackened catfish was SUPER spicy! My husband loved it. On our last visit, we had the Manhattan clam chowder, the New England clam chowder, prawns & linguine, and the bouillabaisse. The chowders were so good. I could have just eaten those and been happy. If you can't decide between the two, they will give you half and half - mixed. The prawns were HUGE and tender. The sauce on the linguine was light and bursting with herby goodness. My husband loved the bouillabaisse which was full of fish, scallops, mussels, etc. The restaurant sits in Glorietta Bay which is just across the street from the Hotel del Coronado. I'm honestly really disappointed with our experience here last night. Out of all the amazing restaurants in San Diego we could have chosen for my birthday dinner, we chose this one, and unfortunately I really wish we hadn't. We had a reservation, so we were seated quickly, but once we sat down it took about 15 minutes for our waiter to even come to the table. Another server eventually noticed we hadn't been helped and had to go find our waiter for us. Once our waiter finally came over, we ordered an appetizer, sushi, and asked for some bread. Our sushi arrived, but there was still no bread and very little follow-up from our waiter. We repeatedly had to flag down other servers to ask for things, check on the bread, and get assistance. It genuinely felt like we interacted more with the rest of the staff than we did with our own waiter. We later ordered another sushi roll and specifically asked for no krab, but it came out with krab and had to be sent back. What really capped off the experience was when our waiter eventually came over with the checkbook without asking if we wanted anything else. Our iced teas hadn't been refilled, our waters weren't refilled, and there was really no effort to check in on us throughout the meal. The food itself was okay, but by that point the lack of service had overshadowed the entire experience. The hostess was also aware that it was my birthday. I don't expect a restaurant to necessarily go above and beyond for a birthday, but when you're choosing somewhere special to celebrate, you hope the experience feels at least somewhat thoughtful. Instead, I left feeling pretty bummed about where we chose to spend the evening. You don't turn 29 every day, and it sucks that this ended up being the experience. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this restaurant for a birthday or special occasion. There are too many great restaurants in San Diego to leave a celebration feeling this disappointed. read more

Another wonderful dining experience at Bluewater Boathouse Seafood Restaurant in Coronado! We started with the garlic Parmesan fries and a spicy tuna roll, both of which were delicious. Our fantastic server, Reid, recommended a High Spot, 182 IPA that paired perfectly with our meal. We were lucky to be seated on the second floor, where the breathtaking waterfront views made the experience even more special. To finish, we ordered the Firecracker Shrimp with minced garlic and chili flakes--packed with flavor and the perfect ending to our meal. The iconic cupola style consistent with the historical character of the Hotel Del Coronado, this restaurant which was once a boat house has been serving fantastic seafood surrounded by stunning views of Glorietta Bay. Plenty of free parking on the lot steps away from the entrance. The covered outdoor patio is our preferred seating. Views of the bay, boats, and mini yachts docked is always fun to see. Have dined here a few times and we always order our favorites: spicy Bloody Mary, Sand Dabs and Norwegian Salmon all presented nicely and tasted as good as it looked. Service from the staff and waitress all times we were here was cordial, attentive and accommodating. There were times we sent back something for being too salty and the kitchen were accommodating and apologetic enough to correct it or offer another dish as they should. Have only dined here during late lunch but I've heard the Happy Hour and dinner times are great and gets busy and a fun to do. We came here for dinner the other night for the first time. Funny enough, we originally meant to go to Blue Water and thought this was the same restaurant as the ones in OB and Point Loma -- turns out it's a similar name, but a completely different restaurant (those are just "Blue Water"). We were seated right away, which was great. We ordered the calamari and clam chowder to start. For mains, my husband had the pan-seared striped bass, I ordered the misoyaki cod, and our friend had the swordfish. Overall, the food was mediocre for the price. The standout dish for us was the clam chowder -- it was the only thing we really enjoyed. My misoyaki cod lacked flavor; I could barely taste the miso and it felt like it needed to be marinated longer. The rice that came with it was also overly greasy, too much soy sauce on the bottom, almost like too much oil or butter, and I couldn't finish it. My husband's striped bass tasted better than my dish, and the swordfish was just okay. Overall, for what you pay, we weren't very impressed with the food. The food looked good at first glance but the fist bite was so fishy it immediately threw both my wife and I off and it instantly ruined the experience. First time having lunch at Bluewater Grill in Coronado. It sits next to the marina, opposite of Hotel Del Coronado. According to its website, "the iconic cupola-adorned landmark was built in 1887 as a design prototype for the Hotel del Coronado located across the street". It has the same red/ white facade as the famous hotel. We sat next to the water under heat lamp. We ordered the crab and avocado salad, crab cakes appetizers and pan-seared salmon entree and had complimentary sourdough bread and butter. Our main courses were: grilled rainbow trout, salmon and tuna. The green beans were unpleasant, way under cooked and flavorless, the rice with the tuna was boring, and you wonder why serve rice with a sauceless main. The potatoes with the trout were tasty but barely warm. Overall a disappointing experience. I read some reviews that really praised this place, and a few that didn't, I join the latter group. This location is the upscale version of the India Street and OC location. I personally seafood market versions but the traditional restaurant version is quite good as well. They have a bit more variety of items than seafood market, more drink options, and I think it's a bit more pricey. The quality of the seafood is the same as the other locations.
