Horrible customer service...was abruptly dismissed as a patient today after obtaining aligners through an orthodontist following my last cleaning. I respect that practices can set policies, but never was it conveyed to me that I was not allowed to have ortho work done outside of this practice. They waited until the end of the cleaning to take my money and then tell me I was not allowed back. This is as so unexpected and discouraging. This office is a disaster. I have been seen here multiple times and have paid my copay for every visit. No one ever mentioned any billing problems until years after I started coming. In May 2025, I get a surprise bill claiming that every visit I've had since 2023 was denied by insurance. They even claimed my March 2025 visit was denied by insurance, despite the fact that my insurance (and eventually, their office manager) confirmed it was never even submitted to my insurance. No explanation, no apology, just a mess I had to clean up. This office simply LIED to my face and expected me to pay for their negligence. Too lazy to submit a bill? It's ok, just have your patient pay the whole thing! To get any answers at all, I had to take time off of work to physically go to their office to meet with the manager, Robin. That's how useless and unresponsive they are, you have to show up in person just to get someone to take responsibility. They made zero effort to contact me until they decided to threaten me with collections. No emails, no calls, no letters--nothing. Just silence for years, and then suddenly a massive bill dumped in my lap. Their billing system is broken, their staff is dishonest, and their communication is non-existent. They do not care about their patients, only about getting paid. Even when it's their own incompetence that caused the issue. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Stay far, far away... Edit to add: Less than an hour after posting this review, I received a voicemail from Dr. Waters himself. He claimed I should have called the office to get the billing issue sorted: despite the fact that I did call, many times, both when this first happened and again when it happened a second time. Every time, I was told the issue was resolved, yet it clearly wasn't. He also said he didn't appreciate receiving a 1-star review "with four paragraphs about a billing issue that has now been resolved." For the record, the only reason it was eventually resolved is because I took time off work to physically go to the office and force a conversation. He further implied the billing problems were due to my insurance changes over the years, which still doesn't explain how they lied and claimed a 2025 visit was denied when it was never even submitted. That's not an insurance issue, that's negligence. Had I known this would have been such a big issue, I would have paid in full myself at time of service and filed the claim myself with my insurance. The fact of the matter is, this office failed to submit claims, misled me about denials, failed to communicate for years, and only responded after threatening collections. Insurance billing is a courtesy offered, and if they cannot do it properly they should say that so patients can find an office that can bill or pay themselves and receive reimbursement from insurance. Stay away. It's not worth the stress. read more

I just got X-rays my previous visit and when I told the staff I didn't want to do them again, Waters came in and said he didn't want to see me. went in for chipped tooth repair. after 1.5 hours had a full mouth xrays, another type of full around the head X-ray then pictures taken of my teeth. then the dentist came in for less than I minute said something about providing an estimate. then the lab technician returned to advise they could not confirm my Delta Dental coverage. I left in a rage. Still with my chipped tooth! Called Delta Dental AZ from my car they advised I was fully covered and all dental staff had to do was provide my name and DOB to confirm my coverage! He sold his practice to Serenity Smiles, and since this change, the dynamics of the office has declined. Dr. Barna is still a great dentist, but I am leaving because of the staff. I asked for detailed summary of charges, was sent a letter stating we should find another dentist. No problem. I then asked for my records, Robin threatened to take me send me to collections for a $14.80 bill (which had been paid, never recorded). The result was that they want to do fifteen thousand dollars worth of burke and not bother to check with the insurance company to see what parts were covered. BUYER BEWARE OF THIS DENTIST! My wife and I went in for a basic cleaning. She was told she needed almost $3000 in additional "treatments". I was told I needed $750 "extra" cleanings. We paid for the exams and my wife was refused when she opted for a simple cleaning. They said they would ONLY do the recommended treatment, not any "basic" cleaning. So they refused to see her again. They were VERY nasty to me on the phone and hung up. I had used them before the new group took over, this winter. The new group is intent on up-selling high-priced add- ons that we probably don't even need. They have lost our business and I am warning anyone about this practice. I went to see Dr. Justin Waters of Serenity Smiles for two molar crowns. Starting at the end of December 2023, he had to keep redoing his crown work because of his repeated mistakes. By April 24, 2024, what should have only been two visits with an outcome of excellent crown work had turned into five visits with crown redos. He left me in discomfort with shoddy workmanship on the upper molar crown, having used up my lifetime dental benefits for that particular tooth. I have had good dental care throughout my life in multiple U.S. cities where I have lived, never having experienced anything like this before. My advice is to stay away . . . this truly was the WORST dental experience of my life!!! read more

New to the McCormick Ranch Area all the way from the East Coast! I got my dental cleaning by their Hygienist Christan and she was the best! She was very gentle, precise, and also provided me with the importance of oral health and how the health of your mouth, teeth and gums can affect your general health. I also had the opportunity to get examined by both Dentists, Dr Goff and Dr Eccker! Dr Goff is so beautiful, kind and made me feel so comfortable and less anxious about getting my cavities filled. Everything went so well, I don't feel or see any of the fillings I got done. I cannot wait until I begin my Invisalign process with Dr Goff! I rarely post reviews but after three failed procedures I felt inclined to keep others from having their teeth damaged. During the few months I was a patient of Serenity Smiles I had a filling come off twice. I subsequently had a tooth with a crown start to bother me. I was told to have a root canal (which I did). This tooth began bothering me a month later. I knew it was time for a second opinion. Per a CT scan I now know the root canal was done incompletely/poorly. A filling done on another tooth had a hole in it and my tooth became decayed. Please take your dental needs elsewhere. read more
