I've been here a few times, this specific location never has good luck with restaurants, in the last 6 years I believe it has been at least 3 different restaurants. However, I believe that Sergio's is here to stay. The food is excellent, the service is extremely nice, professional and attentive while still staying in the background. The price is very good considering the quality of food they serve. I live all of five minutes from this place and I will be coming back again and again. The only negative that I can think of is the lack of a bar and the bread they serve at as the appetizer. It wasn't very fresh..if not for that, it would have received 5 stars from me. read more

Tonight was our first visit to Sergio's. We arrived a bit early for our reservation and less in number but the staff at Sergio's had no problem with it. They were so kind and considerate in accommodating us! Our server was just wonderful. He answered all our questions and was most pleasant. We ordered the veal marsala, spaghetti with clam sauce and penne ala vodka. I had a special request. I wanted the chicken sorrentino BUT, with veal instead of chicken and no eggplant. No problem! I couldn't believe it. I've tried to get this in other restaurants and was denied; probably cause they pre-make everything. The dish came out absolutely perfect! We all enjoyed our dinners and had the stuffed clams as an appetizer and they were delicious! I ordered the pistachio cake and hubby got the tortufo for dessert. Both were excellent. The food here is so good, albeit a little pricier than other authentic italian places. But i would say our meal was worth it considering now this is in my top italian places to go to in NJ. It's in a sketchy strip mall area. If you park in the back there's people just sitting on their chairs staring into the parking lot- weird. Anyway, the bread they give is a little overdone hard to pull apart maybe bc toasted in the oven too long- hard. But the OO and olives are really good. Lets see - the penne vodka, stuffed artichoke, pasta w/ mushroom and skirt steak was really good. I would say for penne vodka I Gemelli is the best though but this is good. Probably some of the best italian I've ever had! It is BYOB but there is a liquor store right across the street. This place is in a little strip mall but when you walk inside you wouldn't even know! It's dark and gives off a more romantic feel. My fiance and I both ordered meals that were specials for the day. The food was awesome and the server was very professional and good at his job. My mom, my dad went to the restaurant last night, they were obligated to take off their coats even though they didn't want to, also, there were also other people with their coats on. The decor is a bit over the top, and the ambiance is very dark and romantic (there are statues of cherubs everywhere). The service is excellent. The wait staff is very attentive and pleasant. The food was quite good. The appetizers were delicious, however I did find most entrees (from seafood to risotto) were drowned in too much sauce. Dessert was delicious. I had the pleasure of meeting Sergio, the owner and his wonderful wait staff on a Friday nite recently. They where able to accommodate my immediate family and friends to celebrate my wedding. I planned the event in 2 weeks and they had a beautiful room to have the ceremony and dinner in. I could not have a sled for a more perfect evening!! The room fit 40 people!! They allowed us to come in earlier to decorate a bit but they had the room already beautifully done. The food was absolutely delicious!! Started of with hot and cold antipasto which was rice balls, mozzarella sticks, stuffed mushrooms and fried calamari!! Served family style. This was followed by a pasta dish.We chose penne with vodka sauce! It was made perfectly. Nice and creamy. Our guest had a choice of 4 dishes for there entree. The best food I have ever had in a long long time. The service was Amazing! and Sergio the owner was super friendly and attentive throughout our entire stay. We had a party of 12 and closed the restaurant. We came over from Queens NY, because a friend who came to visit us from Florida had visited before and recommend it. Since moving from Clifton to Lodi, Sergio's has kept up with the quality of food and great creative specials/dishes! It can get a bit crowded on weekends and even with a reservation, you may have a wait. But they are very accommodating and attempt to get you to your table quickly. From the front end to the waiters..A++!! The appetizers are amazing and the dinners are even better. Great local BYOB. Just one warning.. it does get very very loud at times and you can catch yourself screaming to talk at your table.. but it's a lively crowd and a fun experience! read more

The neighborhood is a bit up and coming it seems tho it was dark but they are next to a ShopRite that looks quite new. Look for the Walgreens and Sushi place and Sergios is right there. You will be greeted by the owner and taken to the dining room which resembles grandmas home with funky lamps and lots of bold artwork. It reminds me of Marcello's that was once in Ridgewood. The food is great along with the service and byob to boot. This is definitely a campy place where you can feel at home and it won't be a sin when male guests greet each other with a kiss. There are plenty of tables with groups of girls and the clientele is not stuffy or fafa. The only missing piece would be having a couple of stunning waiters to look at! We ordered 2 appetizers That were delicious. My friend and I ordered monk fish which prepared Correctly tastes like lobster, and it did it was excellent Service was very attentive and came over to our table to check if all was ok. Planned a surprise dinner for one of my best friends and I was amazed by everything. The food was absolutely delicious. It's a BYOB so that was nice that we got to bring our own wine bottles/beer. The stuffed artichoke is to DIE FOR! Highly recommend that. I was stuffed but I wish I had room for their pistachio tiramisu, NEXT TIME! My only piece of advice is that, they should print out a piece of paper with all the specials on it because after the 2 or 3rd one, kind of forget everything that the waiter said. Totally blown away by the atmosphere, the food and the service. The room is so romantic, the decor is exquisite. Sheer curtains between tables. We were greeted warmly as if we were old friends. Oscar,our server was awesome. His descriptive way Of presenting the specials from memory ( and there were many) was impressive. And his assistant was getting quite a work out he was hustling constantly to keep things running smoothly. The burrata appetizer with prosciutto and tomatoes was amazingly good. I could have licked the plate clean if not for good manners. My dinner was sea bass with shiitake mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes over spinach with a pink sauce was stellar. Melt in your mouth made with Love tasting yummyness My wife had the pumpkin ravioli with butternut squash and sage was very good. I thought It was on the sweet side myself. We arrived on time for our 5:45 reservation. Our waiter uncorked our wine, gave us menus and returned two minutes later asking for our order. We ordered a salad to share and were told we had to order our entrees. We said we were still looking. He agreed to put our salad order in, returned a minute later with bread and asked again for our entree order. We said we were still deciding and needed another minute. Our waiter then spoke with someone we assume was the maitre d. This man aggressively charged to our table and demanded in a shockingly rude manner that we order our entrees immediately because he had other people coming in. We told him we had a reservation and were not walk-ins that had been squeezed in. He acknowledged that and still forcefully demanded we order. My friend suggested that perhaps we should just leave. He heard this and loudly told us, Yes get out! Stunned and confused we left the restaurant at 5:57 having spent a full 12 minutes there. As two women out to dine, we have to ask would this have happened to two men? Are we victims of misogyny? Or is this just the type of shabby treatment everyone can expect while dining at this establishment. read more

I came in with my friends for a quick bite. The food here is amazing. I ordered their pasta with all types of seafood and everything was perfect. Was sat at 7:05pm. Did not receive our food until right before 9pm. I understand dishes are cooked to order however this was a bit much. Way too long to get our food. On top of that the staff was not very friendly or polite. And now we get to the food.... The red sauce was very good. My veal dish was not good. Meatballs were average at best. I will not go on. The food is so devilishly prepared and so many favorite dishes it's not easy to chose! The appetizer on the menu as well as the specials are my favorite! I just order several so I won't miss out. The pasta is perfectly cooked as they come with delicious sauces which fish chicken one of our favorite bolognese sauce!! The pork chops veal chops skirt steak and fish or to die for. Sergio's is by far the best hands down, there homemade pasta specials are to die for, and let's face it somebody may have back in the day for the recipe, it is Lodi. There friendly staff, makes you feel like your in there home. But Kathy goes above and beyond to make you feel so at home that Nona could be in the basement kitchen cooking. A terrible experience! Sergio, the owner is a liar and a crook. I had my Father's Repast there. I told him I wasn't sure how many people would be there. I told him 20-25. He said it would be $30 per person. When I got the bill, he charged me for 25 people (only 15 people were there) and 34.95 a person. So he lied about the rate per person. I had to call him and he said what do you want me to do throw the rest in the garbage? So he agrees to 20 people which is unfair because he never said I had to pay for the estimate. One never knows how many people will show up for a funeral meal. Then I decided to go back and say I should get the extra 5 meals. He had a box packed with meals. So he lied. He was never going to throw them in the garbage. And he never offered the extra meals until I asked one of his workers for them. Despicable! Oh and the food was mediocre at best. Cheese burned on a tasteless veal sorrentino. Desert that appeared past its due date. Will NEVER return!!!!!! read more

I cannot decide whether the great, affordable food outweighs some of the shortcomings that this restaurant has. The good: This restaurant had a very romantic ambience, perfect for a dinner for 2 or 4. The lights were dimmed and had a very cozy feel to the restaurant. This place is for at least nice jeans and a button down. Again, the food was great. My girlfriend had the Cavatielli with cream sauce and it was bomb. Pasta cooked to perfection and the sauce was amazing. I had the Chicken parmigiano which was also stellar. The angel hair pasta was a little bland but not a problem. The portions here are huge for the amount you are paying. Maybe because rent in Lodi is cheaper than other places (not sure). Also, BYOB. The bad: The restaurant had odd trinkets and paintings. This might not bother some, but I dont want to be seeing a picture of a naked cherub while I am trying to eat my food. Some of the statues and art definitely would rub some customers (including me) the wrong way. The ugly: I never like bashing the service after 1 experience but I have to... I came on a Sunday evening and there were only 3-4 tables. When we got to the door, there was no hostess taking our table, we just had to wait for the waiter to come seat us after a little wait. The waiter forgot to give us menus and bread. Also the service was very slow. With this being said, the waiter was still very nice and courteous. The food was enough to want to come back, but if the service is like that again, there are plenty of Italian restaurants in Bergen that are always on point.
