My new FAVORITE Italian spot in Jersey. This place is out of this world. Portions are huge for what you pay, it's byob so we love that, the people are cool, and the ambiance is low key and comfortable. We came for my mom's birthday and everyone had a fabulous time. If you're a meat eater, order the Vitello Di Mela this is the best veal entree I've had. It masters the perfect combination of sweet and savory with the dried cherries and and apples over the meat. Bellissimo!! We also ordered these chips with stracciatella cheese - basically Italian nachos- and it was to die. The calamari app was amazing too, it had a slight Asian spin on it and was just delicious with the peppers. You will not be disappointed - or hungry - leaving this place. Living in the area for 8 years and our first visit to Sergio's. Why did we wait this long?! We went on Valentine's day and the service was great! They had a special Valentine menu with so many choices there was no way to be disappointed. From the appetizers to entree, everything was spectacular! Don't let the outside deceive you, the interior is cozy, romantic and everything you'd want for an intimate evening. It is BYOB but don't fret, there are 2 liquor stores nearby. Our waiter Carlos was very attentive, especially after explaining to him I had some food restrictions he made some recommendations that were on point. Thank you to Sergio, the actual Sergio who owns the restaurant for also being attentive and so welcoming. He gives you that feeling of family, like we were his family. I enjoyed both times I went there in regards to food. To be honest the food was exceptional. The problem I had both times was the service. The service seems to be the common problem according to the not great reviews left for this restaurant. Both times it was more absent than I would care for. The waiters have a tough job because the list of specials they have is way too long and they have to memorize it and say it to customers. As a guest it's too long because not only do the waiters have to memorize it but the guest as well when it's being said to them. I think you should stop being cheap and actually print out the specials daily with the price because of course the waiters don't tell you the price. The atmosphere is eclectic and good for a date on the plus side. I found the support staff much more attentive than the actual waiter. Maybe if you printed out the specials they would have more time to take care of the guest and their needs because I had to ask the support staff for most of the things I needed including finding my waiter. I would give the experience a 3.3 mostly because of the food and atmosphere. I'd go again because the food was good, but if the service is lacking again then sorry but three strikes you're out. That's because everyone who is eating there is talking up a storm that's fueled by the appropriate excitement level emanating from their palates.... A jubilance only enhanced by the way the owner and staff make you feel like someone special every time. And many of the staff have been there for years, a testament to how they enjoy working there. I always try something new each time, and not only is it always one of (if not THE) best version of that particular dish I've ever had -- It often takes dining to a religious experience! First off BYOB always a plus. Going here for my Fathers Birthday we had to reserve a table I called the day of and they only had a 5:30 and an 8:30. We took the 5:30 Bc the 8:30 would have been too late for everyone. We enter Sergio's and as you walk in you can tell they are very religious. Statues and crosses prayers all over the walls. And a big picture of his mother in the waiting room. The place was a decent size with lots of seating. It's very Dim with Italian style music playing in the background. We all sat down and our waiter welcomed us. They served us complimentary warm bread and some spicy olives. The waiter comes back and runs off a list of the daily specials which are not in the menu so pay close attention because he says them pretty rapidly. Most were appetizing. There was one dish that stood out to me on the special menu. The almond crusted grouper over risotto. My father got the Zips Di Pesche my brother and his wife got the chicken Milanese my mother got a pasta dish with artichoke and shrimp. Our appetizers were fried calamari and stuffed artichoke. As we our drinking our wine we brought. The apps come out the fried calamari was so tender with a light crispy batter so delicious. The stuffed artichoke was tasty I saved the sauce that was excellent for my main course. The guys coming around to clean the table almost took it away so be careful if you want to keep things on your table. These guys r will swoop pass you if your not paying attention. The entrees came out not too long after the apps. And I'm so happy with my choice the; -almond crusted grouper over risotto was delicious, crispy outside from the almonds and a warm flaky white flesh. And the risotto mixed with the stuffed artichoke sauce was a great compliment to the fish. -Zuppa di Pesche was flavorful -Chicken Milanese was crispy and good -pasta dish with artichoke and shrimp- I wasn't a fan of because the shrimp was over cooked and it had a vinegar taste. What a hidden gem! Why haven't I been here sooner?!?!? Everything was perfect! Definitely the best authentic Italian food in the area. If you're looking for a perfect date night restaurant then this is a great pick. The atmosphere is very romantic with dim lighting and music playing in the background. Some tables have more privacy than others and we we're lucky to have one of them. The service is excellent. All the severs are very attentive to all the tables needs. Everyone was very friendly. The owner even came by and asked how everything was. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer and it was cooked perfectly. I ordered a classic entree, chicken parmigiana. It was one of the best chicken parmigiana I've ever had. It was cooked perfectly with perfect amount of sauce and cheese. So much flavor and seasoned with love. My boyfriend ordered a salmon special and said it was cooked perfectly. The cannoli is big enough for two people to share. I highly recommend it. Side note it's BYOB and who doesn't love that?! This is my 2nd time here - does not disappoint! I went for a family baptism - the server, Carlos was so knowledgeable, professional, courteous and very friendly. Made excellent recommendations and was so attentive, to everyone's request. Carlos made sure my wine glass was always filled! I have been here many times now, and every single time it has been a good time. Good service, good ambiance and great food. Saturday nights can get really packed here, so reservations are recommended. We've had to wait 45 mins even after making a reservation (but it's worth it). I suggest Friday nights. It's a perfect spot for a date. It's also BYOB, so bring a bottle of wine of champagne. The servers will bring out wine glasses or flutes, as needed. So the food- whether you like authentic Italian or modern Italian fusion, they have it all covered. We love to hear their specials and order the specials. Omg......what an awful experience!! I will preface this review by saying the food was good and I have no complaints about that. It was the treatment by all staff, including the manager/owner that will make me never step foot in here again!!! Upon entering we were greeted with a mandatory coat check in. When I said I wanted to keep my coat, I was told that I couldn't and was forced to check it in. We were seated right by the front door and a window and it was freezing cold. I was uncomfortable the entire time. Meanwhile, a whole table of about 20 came in after us that walked right in with their coats and not only kept them but they weren't even asked to check them. That was 1 of many that came in with the same story. I then asked to get a new glass of water because the waiter who filled it touched the pitcher directly on the glass. Yuck! When I told the hostess she didn't believe me and made me demonstrate what happened. This pissed me off and I told the manager. He then responded by saying that people are getting crazy because of the Corona virus. Let me tell you that it had nothing to do with that! Touching the pitcher to everyone's glass is disgusting and not sanitary on any given day!! When I told the manager that he walked away. Well guess what, I am walking away and never returning. There are many other Italian restaurants with food that is just as good if not better that I will go to and be treated respectfully. read more

I stopped into Sergio's Missione for an early dinner on a Thursday and it's honestly one of the best decisions I've made in a long time. Firstly, the location is very unassuming as it is located in a strip mall plaza next to a Walgreens and other small businesses. Only after you walk inside do you get the sense that this is a nice fine dining establishment. I noticed that each of the tables against the wall were separated by really nice sheer curtains, which is great for privacy if you're having an intimate dinner. They also have an additional space that can accomodate larger parties. Now onto the food: everything I had was excellent! I started off with crab cakes (pictured) which were very tasty and came with a sauce that paired really well. I was set to order the cavatelli for my main, but once my waiter told me their special that day was a lobster ravioli with shrimp and spinach (pictured) I just had to switch it up. Cue another great decision! I ate until I literally could not take another bite. Note, the restaurant is BYOB. That said, as an added bonus the waiter was kind enough to bring me a glass of red that they happened to have in the back. All in all, I will definitely be back! read more

My husband and I went here last night for a little spontaneous date night based off the recommendation of my aunt. The restaurant is super cute, cozy, and has a welcoming vibe. It's great for a date night or a little family get together. It's a BYOB place so we brought a bottle with us to enjoy with our meal. We were greeted with smiles and given a bread basket and spicy olives. I don't even like olives and these were so amazing and addicting, I couldn't stop eating them. We ordered a burrata to start, which was super fresh and creamy. I got the ravioli Sergio, which was fantastic and my husband got the penne vodka with sautéed spinach in it. We wanted to try some of the classics although the specials looked and sounded phenomenal. My ravioli was stuffed with mushroom in a delicious pink sauce, I finished every last bite. My family and I were looking for a restaurant to celebrate my mom's birthday so we chose Sergio's. I used to love their other location that was in Clifton and thought it would've been the same great experience. Our dinner last night started off on an okay note, they sat us near the door where we found ourselves cold the entire evening. We ordered the following dishes: -Squid ink pasta w/ seafood medley -Veal chop -Braised short rib with saffron risotto -Kids chicken tenders and fries -Kids penne pasta in red sauce. My mother found herself pretty sick this morning after consuming their squid ink pasta. We aren't sure what exactly caused it but can confirm she had a case of food poisoning. In addition, my brother asked the staff nicely for a well done veal chop but they presented him an undercook veal instead. The waiter was kind of enough to remake the dish but it still wasn't up to par. When my brother tried to bring it up to another waiter, he rudely snatched his silverware out of his hands and took the plate away. I was beyond livid as this was both unprofessional and inconsiderate especially since we spent over $300 on last night dinner. As for my dish, the short rib was pretty fatty, lacked the meatiness that I liked, and the saffron risotto was very bland. My sister ordered the same thing and she thought it lacked something. As for the kids, my nephew loved his penne but my niece didn't enjoy her chicken tenders. We pretty much ended our meal short and left the restaurant feeling unsatisfied. I'm not sure if the kitchen was overwhelmed or not but last night experience wasn't a good representation of the restaurant at all. Would I recommend or return? Probably not. read more

Reminds me a bit of Paisano's in Rutherford. Management was able to accommodate our table of over twelve and we had plenty of room and the staff was attentive. You'll find a decent menu and plenty of daily specials to choose from. All our dishes were very well prepared with decent size (not over the top) portions. My shrimp fra diavolo over capellini was excellent. My wife's pappardelle with brisket was fantastic. The rack of lamb special another friend ordered looked amazing and she said it was excellent! Other friends ordered pasta, seafood, chicken - all were happy! The Calamari Tuscana (with garlic, wine and hot peppers) was my favorite appetizer. The escargot was nicely prepared as well! Definitely give Sergio's a try. They may not have the celebrity of nearby "Summer 17", but I'd definitely recommend Sergio's as a wonderful gathering for a night out with friends or a romantic "kids-free" night out! Was 5 stars, but lost one due to customer service issues. Yes customer service. We called to make a reservation and were told to arrive at 8:30pm, we then had to negotiate 8:pm. This seems a little strange, so we arrived at 7:30 and we're seated without any mention of the reservation. That's not good. Then they insisted that we check our coats and this then turned to a demand that we check our coats. This did not set well with me considering that there is a sign when you enter that says "Be nice or leave". Really? Not good number teo. I guess that rule only works one way. Additionally, a group of people came in after us and they keep they coats on. Not good number three. So we get seated at a table by the door and we get a cold blast every time it opens. Where's my coat? Oh yeah, not allowed, except if you are part of this group. Did I mention they were sitting and waiting with their hats on. The scunglli salad was very good, but it was more lettuce than fish. And when asked I passed along my comments to the waiter. The chicken marsala was excellent, the sauce was perfect and mushrooms, veggies and mashed equally as good. Grouper was prepared equally as well. Different mushrooms, I believe baby Bello's and excellent.. Oh, as I am sitting by the door, I am seeing the selected people allowed to keep their coats on as they are seated. Two sets of rules. Keep a close watch on the wait staff when your water is refilled as to not have your glass touched by the water pitcher. SO DISAPPOINTED! We were so excited to dine at this restaurant after reading all the greats reviews! This ended up being THE WORST so called Italian restaurant we ever dined at! We ordered the stuffed artichoke heart appetizer with crab meat and the Sformato Di Parmigiano. The stuffed artichoke stunk when it arrived to the table because the crab meat was definitely not fresh! It was also burnt, and tasted awful! The Sformato Di Parmigiano was decent. For entrees we ordered the skirt steak which I requested medium well over veal tortellini in a pesto sauce and lasagna. Both dishes were DISGUSTING! The skirt steak was tasty, but was served undercooked! The veal tortellini was too mushy! The pesto sauce was watery, and it didn't even taste like pesto sauce! It had a horrible taste! The lasagna tasted like it was sitting around for a week then they just reheated it! It has no fresh ricotta cheese or any cheese whatsoever! Besides that it had no sauce either! It was basically dried up pasta sheets with meat with a dollop of sauce on the plate! You can see in the picture for yourself! I could of bought better lasagna at any pizzeria! There is NO possible way any Italian chef cooked any of our dishes! Zero stars for the appetizers and dinners! I'm only giving this restaurant two stars because the desserts were delicious, and our server was great! We ordered the pistachio cake, a tres leche bread pudding, and a Ferrero Roche dulce de leche cheesecake! The pistachio cake and the Ferrero Roche dulce de leche cheesecake were fantastic! The bread pudding was just ok. At least this restaurant had fabulous desserts! Kudos to the pastry chef! I'm really surprised with all the rave reviews here as the food we had was really awful! No quality chef works here just heating up old food! As I said it is 100% the worst so called Italian restaurant we ever dined at! I don't know what's taken me so long to write this establishment a review. I've frequented Sergio's for the past few years. I've introduced families and friends to this delicious restaurant because it is truly my favorite. From the moment you walk in Sergio and Teresa welcome you with a welcoming smile. The service is impeccable, every single time. While their menu has classic Italian staples (try the Ravioli and Veal Milanese !!!) they always have decadent specials. I don't have much of a sweet tooth but I always make sure to save room for dessert here at Sergio's. Sergio's also has two private rooms for parties available. I came last night with a group of 8 and everything from start to finish was amazing. We got multiple appetizers including: the Special Cheese Tasting which had the most delicious jam & spiced honey and a great balance of cheeses (hard, soft, sharp, etc), the stuffed mushrooms which everyone enjoyed, and the special Japanese taco's which had crispy duck breast & pickled onions- I could have easily finished them all by myself! For dinner, 4 of us got the special Parpadelle pasta with filet mignon in a rich, brown sauce- it was truly a perfect winter meal! My brother got the grilled, double pork chop special, which was cooked spot on & so yummy. My dad and I had the halibut special with purple potatoes & brussel sprouts- to be honest it was one of the best pieces of fish, I've ever had. This past Wednesday March 24 I made a reservation at SERGIO MISSIONE. During the reservation process I asked if they were honoring Covid 19 protocol ( 50% capacity. the owner assured me this was the case ). When we arrived to the reservation the following Saturday night at 6:30 to our surprise the room we were taken to was perhaps 12ft by 15ft. That room was seated with perhaps 60 people. The other room 20Ft by 20ft had perhaps 100 people. The food served was inadequate, the noise level was horrible and when I mentioned the lack of Covid protocol the owner just shrugged. DO NOT SUPPORT this establishment based on its lack of concern for public health. Apparently spacing tables, masks and limited capacity is NOT THE LAW for Sergio Missone. I give this establishment less than one star but the guidelines will not allow it. read more

Sergio's was recommended by a few friends. Decided to give it a try tonight and glad we did. The owner sat us and immediately introduced himself and welcomed us. The atmosphere was nice and cozy. We shared the hot antipasto which was phenomenal and actually a meal in itself. For dinner, I had chicken saltimbocca which was delicious while my wife had a fish special which she raved about. I had to post a good review because for one the owners service was exceptional. He literally came back to check in on us numerous times. I can sincerely say he takes pride in his business and it is personal for him. Now let's talk food, the penne vodka with chicken rather than the prosciutto was sooooo delicious. Both my honey and I were impressed and it takes a lot for us to be impressed when it comes to food since we are serious foodies. The appetizers were also tasteful. We had the portobello mushrooms stuffed with crabmeat. They were a hit. Can I also mention that because we didn't have a cork for our wine bottle, the owner proceeded to give us a cute little carrying case for our wine to take home.
