For delivery, this place is pretty alright. Got the masas de puerco and they were just about how I'd expect them, but the pork was surprisingly good, garlicky and very tender. The maduros and beans were also really good. This Sergio's has been pretty solid for years and the problem has always been that the actual restaurant itself is kind of meh, with the food items being hit or miss. You just have to know what's good to order here. Unfortunately, they're also the kind of restaurant that HAS to serve ALL the Cuban classics, even the ones that they aren't very good at making, and they suffer for it. I only came to Sergio's because I heard that they had Miami Brewing Company Coconut Ale on tap. I wasn't really expecting to eat or to be wowed so this was the best surprise ever. First of all, this place is adorable. You walk in and it is inviting. It feels like home and it is decorated a little kitschy, but modern at the same time. You can sit inside or outside. Secondly, our waiter was so sweet! He made sure that we sat where we wanted and got our beer right away. I was so elated to have the beer that after that I decided to check out the menu. My friend suggested we get an appetizer of plantains and black bean hummus. It came out in this cute little wire container! The plantains were shaped like little scoops and that hummus was delicious! Went today after my awful last visits . I was contacted by a member of management and they apologized for it . Which I appreciated because to me it shows they want to satisfy their customers. As soon I walked in I was greeted and asked where i wanted to sit. It wasn't the usual . The server promptly came over and handed our menus and got our drink order and had someone bring us water. We came here on a weekend for a late breakfast/early lunch. Our table was seated immediately, however shortly after that, everything went downhill. The service was definitely lacking and most of the time, we had to flag down our server to tend to us. Our meals were not complex; café con leche, ropa vieja empanada, and vaca frita. The best part of the meal was the empanada and this was one of the main reasons we chose this particular Sergio's location. When the café con leche arrived, the mug smelled like it had just been rinsed in water and not washed. I could not get past the smell with every sip that I took. When the meal came, the plate clearly had not been cleaned as it had a piece of an egg shell on it and some yolk. I went on a Wednesday afternoon and it was quiet but had a great ambience. We had eaten a couple of hours before so we were not hungry for a full meal. We decided to grab some drinks and start our happy hour. We had the red Sangria pitcher. It was super delicious. The taste smooth and not overpowering but powerful enough to make happy hour "happy"! With the sangria order we got free "mariquitas" which is green plantains cut into thin slices and fried. They were addicting and paired very well with our choice of drink. Went after "work" one day with two of my classmates. We chose a seat outside. We were promptly greeted and brought menus. My two friends ordered cortaditos right away. I ordered empanadas for an appetizer. I chose ham & cheese and a spinach one, because those were two of the types that the waiter listed. Of course, once he returned without the empanadas, I knew that they didn't have the kind that I requested. So, I got the two that they did have: chicken and beef. The pastry part was decent, but the filling was pretty dry. Also, I may be mistaken, but it seemed as though I was brought two chicken empanadas. I would not order them again. In the mean time, there was a basket of bread. It looked like garlic bread, but I did not taste any trace of garlic on the piece that I ate. So, maybe it was just toasted bread with butter. For the meal, I ordered steak fajitas. They came with a side of rice and beans. I also ordered tostones. The steak was quality steak and the flavor was pretty good. There were onions and peppers in it. However, these are Cuban fajitas, and I guess that means that they are eaten without a tortilla. The rice was rice, and the beans were good. The tostones were super greasy and the flavor was just not there. However, they did come with a garlic dipping sauce. To me, there is no such thing as too much garlic. So, I was quite pleased with the sauce. One of my friends ordered the palomilla sergio's. I can't say how good it was because I did not ask her. But, she cleared her plate, so I'm guessing it couldn't have been too bad. She also got rice and beans. She is a bean freak, and she said that the beans were really good. My other friend ordered masas de puerco. Again, I can't say much about it, as I didn't ask how it was. But, he did not eat it all, and he usually clears his plate. For desert, I ordered tres leches cake. I was never a huge fan of tres leches cake until one of my friends ordered it at puerto sagua. It was to die for, and ever since then I've been in search of something equally as good. This tres leches was a huge disappointment. I don't even know where to start. The whipped cream was that fake, overly sweet, and horrible textured stuff. I was not impressed by the cake itself. I would not order this again. Growing up in a Cuban household and eating Cuban food for almost everyday of my childhood, I grew pretty sick of it. However, Sergio's is the only place that I will ever go to when the boyfriend has a hankerin' for comida Cubana. I've had the vaca frita with moro and french fries - it's always good. The meat is tender and somewhat crispy, the fries crunchy (if you're in the mood to be a real fattie, you can ask for them to melt some cheese on top of them), and the moro flavorful. One of the things I love about Sergio's is their bread. It's toasted, super buttery, and has a hint of garlic. I've also had breakfast here (probably the basic eggs, bacon, etc) but the orange juice is awesome! Fresh squeezed and pulpy - just the way I like it. For dessert I've had the tres leches, which I'm assuming they buy from somewhere like Lila's. I would prefer it to be made there, but in my eyes you can never go wrong with any type of tres leches. As for the restaurant itself, there is always plenty of parking, the service is always friendly (although sometimes a bit slow when it's a busy night), and the crowd is always loud and entertaining (I mean, what do you expect, it's a CUBAN restaurant). Like most Cuban restaurants, they have a window where you can order some croquetas, empanadas, coffee, etc. - very convenient. You can also place to-go orders here. When my sister comes to visit us from the beach we always go to sergios. Lately we've been disappointed with the food. I like to have the pan con bistec. I've gone twice and the bread is stale. I know Cuban Bread gets hard very easy but the bread that is served on top of the sandwich is hard flakey and stale. I'm hoping they improve. Not only for this location but for the one in Doral as well. Although its kind of funny that the bread they serve before the food gets there was really good. My parents are also disappointed with the two for two. It is a great special but the selections are not accommodating if the customer doesn't like the selections for soup. I always get a bistec empanizado with platanitos and I'm never disappointed. My dad usually picks up the food but yesterday I walked over and ordered something else. Truly deserves zero stars. I placed an order over the phone for pickup. When I arrived at the restaurant I asked the lady behind the counter about a pickup order. She was clearly bothered and barked at me "over there" pointing to another counter behind her. I told her that I did not deserve to be spoken to in such a rude way and then all hell broke loose. She pulled down her face mask and started yelling that she had not been rude and that she was the manager of the place. Her name is Yelani Acosta. I felt embarrassed as her yelling had cause everyone in the restaurant to look over. I decided to leave to avoid further embarrassment and mistreatment by this woman. It's a shame to see that sergios has declined so drastically in their service to their customers. Was in south Miami and stopped in at Bird Rd spot for breakfast, asked for La Flaca Fit and was asked if with chicken or meat, I said it doesn't come or show on menu as such, she told me they don't put it.
