Hands down the best Carne Asada burrito that you will find out there. The burrito is stuffed with rice, beans, meat, onions, cilantro and salsa. I prefer the green salsa over the red one as the red on is like enferno hot. Heck, it is so good that I usually purchase another burrito to take to work the next day! The carnitas are also pretty good here. I usually get two carnitas tacos along with my burrito. Think of it as a taco appetizer. Tacos will set you back $1.60 each, and they the normal small taqueria sized tortillas. Again, green salsa for me. The red salsa will burn your stomach, but it tastes pretty good. Parking kind of sucks here as there are few spots right next to the restaurant and some in front of the liquor store next door. Also there are some interesting characters that hang around the area, so make sure you lock your doors. read more

Let me tell you super nachos I give it a 4 star meat was amazing just the nachos got a little soggy but it was delicious. The part where I wanted to leave a 1 star was because I was excited for the flan and it turn out to be expired the taste was horrible and started to like bubble and in my mouth taste sour and smelled like wine the syrup was sticky . I stopped going to the Sergio's Tacos on Olympic and Garfield because of the repeated problems of getting my order right, and then being treated as it was my fault. It appears they're now sending the same cooks from Olympic to the Vail location, especially on weekends. On a weekday, the cooks are awesome and give plenty and the food is prepared perfectly. On the weekend I've noticed the tacos are sloppy, my Taquitos only a a small small amount of guacamole (about an inch) on three Taquitos and a handful of cabbage. Sometimes, when you get a taste of something, it's like an epiphany. The opposite of your deepest, darkest fears coming true; that one empty, aching spot in your gray matter's been filled-in, sanded, and finished: job done. If it wasn't for Dennis I. and his review of the Sergio's Tacos down Atlantic Boulevard (which I most DEFINITELY must try), I'd probably never stop by their companion eatery on the corner of Vail and Olympic. I mean, throw a split goat's head into this area and you're going to hit a restaurant with bright harsh lighting, a crudely painted mural or two, and those fast food bench/table units. Driving south from Beverly Boulevard, down Vail, It's largely residential until you reach Olympic, but don't worry; by the time you get close, the sign for this place seems to light up the intersection. Parking is about four spaces off to the side, each slot a straight shot in from Vail, so I'd watch out when backing out with your asada booty. I'm sure street parking is available but I had tunnel vision on my first visit last night. One thing that surprised me was that they take credit cards!! It was a WTF moment, but a good thing to remember for future visits. The interior takes its cues from all the other restaurants where the mexican salt-of-the-earth crowd eats, with the ambiance to match; total no-nonsense. There's more than enough benches and tables to bring a group of people, but some might be hesitant to order their food "for here". So the atmosphere isn't that great, but their food, particularly the asada tacos and the asada burrito, gave me a feeling not unlike a sensation a treasure hunter might experience when happening upon a sunken Spanish galleon. In short, I ordered three asada tacos ($1.25 each) with the mandatory onions and cilantro, an order of taquitos (you get three), and an asada burrito... to go, since I wanted to take it home and share. The asada tacos were wow!! Two small corn tortillas topped with a citrusy asada; the way I like it! The citrus was similar to King Taco's asada, but the meat was more down and dirty, fitting in perfectly with this place's ambiance; a nice mix of charred bits reminding you that this is NOT the quality-controlled cow of my beloved King Taco, but made on the premises subject to the cook's whims. In fact, I'm sure Sergio's sticks more asada into their tacos. I got both the red and the green sauces on the side. I must say I lean more towards the green sauce; the reds are too spicy for me. However, this red sauce, spicy as it was, had that chili-inspired smokiness that other mercilessly spicy red salsas often lack. The green sauce on my taco almost seemed overwhelmed by the flavor of the beef, not that I'm complaining. These tacos are good and I love the asada here. The taquitos here are also pretty good. The guacamole is squirted out of a bottle, but the taquitos themselves are made here, shored up by toothpicks during their trip into the deep-fryer. One FYI is that they're not made with beef, but a white meat; probably pork, but don't even let your rabbi stop you. The taquitos here are nicely fried. One day, I might have to eat them fresh out of the fryer before the guac's soaked into them. The more I think of them, they better they're starting to sound to me. The asada burrito... Man, what a treat! A large, warmed tortilla smeared with creamy refried beans, then orangish rice, lots of asada, then onions and cilanatro; haphazardly wrapped, then enclosed in foil. They are the kind of burritos I wish King Taco made since I'm not a fan of their frijoles. These burros are larger, too. Other than not being able to get a bite of every single ingredient until mid-burro, I have no complaints about my burrito. I also found that they're not as easily subject to that "toothpaste effect" in which the contents ooze out of the other end. by the time i got home, the innards were nicely coagulated into a single mass. Another thing i loved was how the radishes and lemon wedges were thrown into the same plastic bag, the juice giving the radish slices a nice tanginess. The restaurant also serves combinations and soups, not that I'll want to advance to them. I'll want to stay at the tacos and burrito level for a while. while waiting, I thought I saw a sope, but there were none on the menu board. Hmmm... conspiracy? I even made a five-second friend while waiting, and told him it was my first time there. He gave me his opinion of Sergio's, which I think is valid: King Taco and Sergio's are two different things. He DID tell me that whatever I do, get an asada taco, and that the red salsa is overly spicy for HIS taste. When he asked how I learned of Sergio's I mentioned Yelp. (for some reason, a lot of people think of small dogs barking) I gave him the URL and he checked it out on his phone. First rate food and a potentially new Yelper; how better can it get? read more

After Ken's review I had to check this other location out. This location has better parking than the one on Atlantic Blvd (about 2 miles away). It has a larger menu with taquitos, enchiladas, chile relleno, and even hamburgers. I would say the Atlantic location had slightly better carne asada tacos. More tender meat, more of it, and better cooked tortillas. Plus I missed not seeing the meat cleaver guy here (maybe the meat guy is Sergio). Anyways, both places are great so try them both out! read more

Sergio's is located inside a dingy, small strip mall. The inside looks very "authentic." You don't come here for the atmosphere thats for sure!! I ordered 2 carne asada tacos. The meat is tender and full of flavor! Actually pretty bomb! There's no salsa bar here but they do have the red and green hot sauces in bottles. You can find them on the counter or randomly on tables. The red hot sauce will burn your mouth, but it was awesome!! Green hot sauce was my favorite. You can taste the chilies and it's the perfect amount of spiciness. The lime and a few pieces of radish will come on your plate. Overall, the tacos were pretty tasty. I have been a recurring customer here for many years now and have always enjoyed their food. Today wasn't a good day. Today is Froday, July 17, 2020. I walked in with my mask on and stood in line to place my order when I noticed a woman standing in the kitchen area with her son, both not wearing a mask. I got her attention and asked her to put on her mask and to get her son his maks. Her reply was: "Oh, I don't work here." (So, if you don't work here, why are you in the kitchen?) I told her that that was irrelevant. All the kitchen staff was wearing a mask, all the customers were wearing a mask, there is a sign on the door that says you have to wear a mask. I addressed the kitchen staff in regards to the woman and her child and no one would even look me in the eyes let alone reply. I'm no germaphobe and I respect other people's space, however, if I can't order a taco without having to wear a mask, then this woman shouldn't be in the kitchen of a restaurant without a mask. read more

Last night I went on a mission al pastor. I visited 3 taquerias in search of REAL tacos al pastor (eg, like you would find in Mexico City, roasted on a spit with a pineapple at the top). Sergio's in Montebello was the first stop as it was closest to my in-laws' house. I ordered 5 tacos: 2 al pastor, 2 carne asada and 1 pollo. The lady spoke quickly and in Spanish and my Spanish is rusty. I just kind of agreed to everything and $7 + change later, I had 5 fantastic tacos. They had a generous helping of salsa roja which was fantastically spicy. It was too spicy for my lady so I got her chicken taco too, which was fine by me (I love spicy food). The seasoning and quality of meat was fantastic. The chicken was tinga-style, the carne asada had some nice crispy edges but was still moist and delicious. The pastor was flavorful and delicious but was sadly not the legit item roasted on a vertical spit. Compared to the other 2 places we visited, service was fast and friendly and they also had a beautiful mural inside. There's a deep foul smell once you walk in, and continues to linger as you dine. A side of cabbage will run you about .75 cents. First time here and certainly last. Customer service is mediocre at best. I was handed a receipt with a pen (to sign after purchase) and then she walked away (before I even began to sign). I had questions and concerns over the salsa but had to wait by the counter for some time to get acknowledged. We go there for menudo on weekends. It's pretty good and they have hood customer service. I like that they are open early.

I always enjoy my fair share of Mexican food. This has always been my go to spot and although they have another location just a few blocks down, this is the spot. The food is delicious I'm always ordering the wet burrito it never let's me down. The spicy green salsa Verde with a drizzle of crema to top it off, mouth watering. Off the corner of vail, this hole in the wall was amazing. Theres little parking but its on the neighborhood streetwith houses, so theres plenty there. The food came quick and the cashier brought the food to the table. The pastor is one of the best pastors ive had. Must get! The tripa couldve been crispier/ seasoned better.
