If you think having your own jeweler is only for the 1%, think again. Serjeo gave me a fantastic price for rebuilding & resizing my engagement ring, and creating my own custom wedding band with Serjeo was CHEAPER than any online deal I could find for a generic, mass-produced ring (e.g Blue Nile, Zales). You'd have to be legally insane to not go custom when it's less expensive than generic! First off, the other reviews note, it's true, you do get to go into Serjeo's work room and watch him work, and tell him if you like what he's doing or change anything you want as he goes along. He explains his process and answered all the questions I had about the gadgets in his work room. How awesome is that? I needed my solitaire engagement ring (which my hubby bought elsewhere) resized for my tiny size 3.5 finger - piece of cake. I also wanted the shank to be thinner though, and Serjeo filed it down, polished it - I got to watch the whole process. I thought I might want it even smaller, but he warned that once it got smaller you can't add the platinum back, so try it out for a few weeks, and if I decided I wanted it smaller, to come back and he'd make it smaller for no extra charge. So later I did decide that I wanted it smaller, came back and he made it just perfect. At the same time we also designed my wedding band, which I just wanted to be the tiniest plain platinum band possible. A band this size didn't even exist anywhere else - he ordered the platinum and made the band (while I watched of course) and it turned out perfectly, and it was cheaper than if I were to buy one online that wasn't perfect. And I get to say that my ring is custom! Top top it off, Serjeo is a swell guy and fun to work with. He is not the type of guy that would ever rip you off, he is very honest and fair. I honestly can't say enough good things about working with Serjeo. I came in with a very old diamond which had been in my family for a while but needed some touching up. To be honest, I wasn't even sure it was going to be suitable for an engagement ring and was prepared to purchase an entirely new rock and setting. Serjeo had every chance to sell me on this but wouldn't allow for it - he said a ring like this had so much character and meaning that it was the perfect stone. He then polished it and discussed potential designs which would work best, everything from the type of setting to the kind of metal. I then made another appointment to come in and discuss details. We sat and discussed all the finer points and Serjeo, again, was nothing but genuine and helpful. Once he began (custom) making the ring, he sent over updates to show the progress. Once the ring was ready and I popped the question, it turns out I mis-measured her size and we had to get it resized. (This may have been the most above and beyond anyone had ever gone for me) Serjeo made time for us that very weekend to come in and resize the ring - he took us to the shop, gave us a few beers and did all the metalwork right there in front of us. I already had rings...but having purchased them from larger jewelry chains, after just a short time, had problems with missing diamonds, and even so far as missing my over 1 carat center princess cut stone. Thankfully it was found...That said, we knew we needed a change. We brought everything to Serjeo which I am lucky enough is one of my husband's close friends and he asked me what I liked in the way of cuts, styles, etc. and that I should leave everything with him and he would make it perfect. WELL, I could not have been prepared for what I saw when my husband picked them up. I am a bit of a control freak and not knowing exactly what the whole thing was going to look like needless to say I was "nervous". Serjeo literally disassembled both of my rings. All diamonds out, all white gold melted down and away he went. He created two matching "eternity bands" to go on either side of my engagement ring filled with the diamonds from a ring I had loved for years and was originally heartbroken that I had to re-work. He also cut down the height of my princess cut center stone (which I think made it look bigger in the end). With 3 new rings in hand I was so thrilled that I wasn't missing my old ring styles. He reworked everything into a fantastic and extremely sparkly (very me) work of art that I am so proud to be wearing every day now. Serjeo matched his reputation for excellent product and a great price. 12 years married, it was time my engagement ring saw a refresh. Serjeo listened to my ideas and read my personality/style and steered me towards something that I absolutely love that was well under what I expected to spend. In fact, on a couple of occasions he discouraged me from adding more diamonds or possible swapping the center stone for something larger (which would have meant more profit to him) which impressed me a great deal. He was far more interested in creating a ring that I loved than he was with upselling me to a higher priced item. He took the time to create my newly revamped engagement ring so that it sits comfortably with my existing wedding band and my 10 year engagement band, should I want to wear it that way. Serjeo is a true master jewelry craftsman who has far exceeded all of our wildest expectations. We started the search for my wife's upgrade to her wedding ring by going to the typical commercial retail outlets without success. Via recommendation we were directed to the jewlers building in Boston and that's where our real search began. We quite literally went into almost every store in the entire building floor by floor. There were fine quality wedding rings in many of the showrooms, but we were unable to find "the ring" that my wife had envisioned in her head. Many of the jewelry associates explained that they could help to order a custom designed ring for us, but none of them could interpret the vision my wife had in her head and we felt very uncomfortable leaving this important design and assembly to someone that we would never meet. Eventually we walked down one hallway on the 5th floor and found ourselves at Serjeo's, but thought we were out of luck due to the sign indicating "by appointment" only. Not being discouraged we rang the bell anyway and we're greeted by Carolina who explained that Serjeo was in his shop working on a piece of jewelry. She went in the back room and in a few minutes Serjeo came out to meet with us. We explained to him that after searching at least 20 different showrooms we just could not find a design that we had been searching for. Serjeo sat with us and asked what qualities and styles we had in mind and explained that HE could help us with the design of our ring and create it himself. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that we could actually sit and talk with the person who would craft our ring rather than putting the design in a strangers hands. We were very impressed with his personal attention and ideas that we made an appointment to return. Serjeo asked us to identify all the qualities that we were looking for and to bring in pictures of different rings that had features we wanted to include in our design. Our return visit was simply amazing because this is when our thoughts were finally put on paper and our vision started to become a reality. Serjeo understood the direction we were trying to go and offered some key suggestions that we blended into the design. All of our concerns were addressed with consideration to the final outcome. He explained that some elements we thought would be nice wouldn't exactly work well and eventually we came up with the basic concept for him to create a wax mold. The wax mold was delivered for us to look at and to our surprise Serjeo had added an another feature to the ring that he thought would compliment the design (he explained that this could easily be removed if we wanted). This added design feature completely made our jaws drop to the floor and we loved it, he understands our vision......This was the ring my wife wanted to have on her finger forever!!!! Another visit was made to Serjeo's showroom to look at the actual gold casting before the diamonds were added to confirm the design was accurate, even without the gemstones we could see how beautiful it was. Serjeo met the promised timeline and delivered to us one of the most beautiful pieces of jewelry we have ever seen. My fiance proposed to me very spontaneously without a ring (which originally was the one thing I told him he had to have - but he was so genuine and romantic that I had to say yes). We decided to design the ring together, because I wanted something pretty unique (alexandrite instead of a diamond as the main stone). I found Serjeo on Yelp, and he absolutely lived up to his reviews! He was wonderful to work with, really took the ideas of what we liked, pared it down and came up with a truly elegant design. I loved being a part of the design process, although the waiting afterward was painful (I bowed out of the process after the initial meeting so I could still be surprised by the ring). I was referred to Serjeo by a friend who had used him also. I emailed him to setup an appointment and met with him the following week. I had brought an existing ring with me with 2 diamond "sidestones" existing in it. I said, "I would like to use these 2 sidestones in the 3 stone ring that looks like this picture." He looked at the 2 stones and gave me his appraisal of them, which matched the one I already had gotten. This was my first measure of trust. He said, "Ok based on the side stones lets pick the centerstone out." He came in lower than bluenile.com on the price of the center stone that I selected. That was another point in the trust category for me. He then asked about specifics on the setting. Advised i go with a cheaper metal than i thought originally, and showed me some examples that he had already made. One of the examples was exactly what i wanted, so that just became my ring. All said and done, I probably spent an hour with Serjeo talking about details. Less than 2 weeks later i'm putting it on her Finger, and she literally couldn't be happier with it. It's really an awesome ring, and getting it was such a non-hassle that I couldn't believe it. Im going back to pick up the previously existing ring with 2 new birthstones in it where the sidestones once were. I will clearly be purchasing my bands from Serjeo. Last but not least. The original "no-more-than" budget I gave him, we ended up staying $500 under it. Yeah that says UNDER. It really felt like we were working together on a project, and that our interests were aligned. I saw a diamond semi-mount in the Caribbean while on a cruise, and thankfully I didn't purchase the ring there, but I got a picture of the semi-mount to research getting it made at home. We were able to quickly settle on a design, he gave us a great price, and not only that, but after initially thinking he would need 2 weeks, when I told him that I was going to visit a bunch of college friends the next wknd who I knew would be grabbing my hand to see, he had it ready in just a week! A friend had recommended Serjeo to me, and although I wasn't quite ready for the engagement phase, I did want to explore his work. When I walked into his store, i was immediately impressed with the decor and professionalism of the staff. I mentioned that a friend had referred me and the girl behind the front desk disappeared, and seconds later, Serjeo came out to great me personally. I told him that I had already purchased a ring for my gf from Gucci for v-day, but wanted to see his style and if there was something he could do in the near future for when "that time comes". I showed him the ring and he brought me to his shop in the back to see his works and explain how he operates. i was so impressed with his style and his adaptability, i am confident that he will be able to custom design the perfect ring that i had in mind. He commented that the ring i had already purchased was beautiful, and i asked if he did engraving. he said he did and offered his services. being Friday, the day before I was going to give my gf the ring, i immediately jumped on the offer. he put the ring on the machine and encountered problems due to the rings unique design. He spent a great amount of time and effort configuring the machine so that the ring would fit. in the end, he came through and the engraving was beautiful. when he returned the ring, i went to pay and he would not accept any payment. Serjeo was such a pleasure to work with, and you can see in his work and his personality that he loves what he does and cares about making you happy and everything perfect. Maybe he has me hosed, but I loved him. Walked away with a custom pave diamond eternity band. Made me feel comfortable, didn't try to up sell (in fact, told me why white gold made more sense for the wedding band we were getting than platinum. I was set on platinum, but when he explained that for a $1200 ring, he questioned whether an additional $900 for platinum, which he was willing to do, made sense ). And even though it's appt only (oops, didn't know that,) he saw us anyway and didn't rush us. Actually sold me the ring I had tried on and said he could make the exact same ring, but with the current cost of gold it would be ~$700 more (he prices the rings based on the cost of the materials at the time it was made.) Also said he could add $300 more in pave diamonds to go all the way around the band, but he felt in the long run, I would be more likely to loose diamonds, bang it on the desk at work, etc and didn't recommend it. Then he refunded the tax because I was a teacher and he respected the work we do for the little money we get paid! He was only the second jeweler we had gone to and we were not planning on buying anything today (just looking and learning how it all worked). I was worried I was being impulsive, but the smile on my face as I wore the ring (and thought about wearing it for the rest of my life) was enough for my boyfriend to say, "let's do it." He makes the jewelry he sells, so for me that meant something. Plus neither of us are big shoppers, so the thought of going around to the other places seemed more daunting than fun. If my boyfriend decides to go w/ a white gold or platinum band, we'll be back (he's considering Tungsten and Serjeo, put no pressure on him and said "for your lifestyle, that sounds like a good fit. Don't spend more than $100 and you'll be happy, but go on-line for that." Then he sized him and gave him the info he would need to buy elsewhere. I should mention Joseph Gann quoted $270 for a tungsten ring.)
