The food at service bar continues to impress. We were a little worried when we came in because several items on the menu were unavailable such as all their pizzas, their Ragu, and the red snapper. Nonetheless, whatever was on the menu was delicious. From the small plates, we shared the duck confit wings, the duck fat fries, and the smoked pastrami trout on potato. The pastrami trout was the star of the show. For the main course, we shared the spring pea gnudi. My daughter and I liked this dish the best. The flavors were amazing -- bright, lemony with pancetta and ricotta. The dessert was also wonderful... it was an interesting take on a strawberry shortcake with homemade biscuits and homemade strawberry sorbet with vanilla ice cream. Service Bar was a fantastic little spot. I loved that they had a parking lot. Reservations are recommended. They have a couple of tables, a bar, and some outdoor dining spots. They have a nice cocktail menu and a couple of mocktails. I opted for a mocktail. It was really good! I also tried their featured pizza. It was amazing! Each bite had a lot of flavor. My mom tried the Lake Erie Walleye. Her meal looked really good too. The food and drinks were really good and the bar is beautiful. Came in on a Friday night before heading over to the Short North Theater to see Rocky Horror Picture Show (which was most excellent!). Was immediately seated at table 42, the best seats in the house! Everyone was very friendly and the service was fast. We had the Curry Fried Quail and the Beef Neck Ragout. Never had fried quail, but it was okay. Tasted like dark meat chicken. The Sweet Potato Waffles and bourbon syrup were excellent. The pasta was also good. I think they are doing themselves a disservice by calling the dish 'Beef Neck'. Who the hell wants to eat a cow neck? Regardless, the meat was very tender and reminded me of a beef short rib, without the bone. Before any of this I tried the two bourbon flights. Had both the Founders Flight, which are all run of the mill blended 80 proof or so spirits, and the Cask Strength Flight, which is the really good stuff, each one checking in around 125 proof. Each flight had a bourbon, a whisky and a rye. Ended up liking the rye best and bought a couple of bottles to bring home. The ambiance is a casual chic, decked out mostly in black and white. Bar area seats about a dozen and the rest of the restaurant holds another 30 or so, so not a big place. They have a gift store where you can buy everything they sell. I ordered the old fashioned and could only drink one - it was delicious, rich, and booze forward. Exactly how they're supposed to be. A great drink to sip and a great vibe in the establishment. What a treat. We came here for my FIL's birthday and was not let down. I have heard rave reviews about this place so I was very excited to try it out. We were welcomed when we walked in and were allowed to put our coats on a coat rack. Plenty of parking designed solely for the Service Bar which made it very convenient. There was an odd smell but it's likely due to the MidWest Spirits being produced in there. You get used to it. The service was fantastic. We started with the French fries and the wings. Both of them were great. We ordered a bottle of wine for the table. My BILs got the espresso martinis. They were a bit underwhelmed by the size but enjoyed them. They would have preferred them without bitters but they didn't have any problem enjoying them. For dinner, I ordered the pork chop and it was delicious! The pecan crust was a nice touch! I also got lucky being able to finish my MIL's last half of her burger and the leftover fries. Clearly, I came hungry and ready to eat. For dessert, we ordered the apple fritters which also was very good. Overall, this is a very nice restaurant. The ambiance is great. I think people in Columbus are stupid. Stupid for not making Service Bar far more popular now. Yes I know it had a famous chief pre-covid and he was great. But you are foolish not to give Chef James, who has been running the Kitchen for the last 8 months, a chance. I have attached the menu from June 2024, as well as some photos of the food, decor and the chef himself. Probably one of the best meals we have had this year. I had an Old Fashion made with the bourbon they distilled on site (I case you forgot Service Bar is a distillery as well as a bar/restaurant) and my wife had the Strawberry Fields cocktail. Both were excellent. For diner I had the glazed pork chop and she had the salmon. Again both were outstanding and generous portions. The menu prices struck me as very reasonable compared to other places with similar quality and style. Even more so once we tasted them! Our waiter was knowledgeable, attentive and professional. Not only did he personally know all of the dishes, but he could explain the ingredients in them as well. One of the best service experiences we have had in a long time. Parking was easy since after 5:30pm the largish shared parking lot it is pretty much dedicated to SB customers. The interior is elegant and tables well spaced out. I wouldn't call it "fine dining", but I would call it "elevated dining" which is exactly what we were looking for. We wanted a great atmosphere and wonderful food without having to get too dressed up. This fit the bill. It's the kind of place where they have music playing just loud enough, you can hear it, but you could easily have a normal conversation without it interfering or making you talk louder. All in all it was a fantastic night dining out and I hope Columbus embraces Service Bar once again. They deserve it. Highly recommended! read more

A perfect date night spot. Reasonably priced drinks, food and merchandise at the restaurant. I love the ambience and exterior a lot. There is also a few parking spots attached to the place which was super convenient considering the location! We ordered salad, burger and the pasta. I really wanted to try the lamb shank but it was sold out at the time, a little surprised since it was before 6P on a Saturday. My husband loves the burger and the fries was very very good! Amazing value for the pricing point. My pasta was also tasty but a little salty to my liking. The restaurant is super cozy. I do wish there is more spacing between tables since we can literally hear the whole conversation from the table next to us. Maybe I will ask for the booth next time. I had been wanting to try this spot and it did not disappoint. It is small inside but very chic, and they are making the spirits they craft their cocktails with in the next room which is cool. Our server was really fun, attentive, and helped explain the menu. There was six of us and we tried a plethora of cocktails and wine and they were all good. We started with the chicken wings and duck fat fries. Both of which were delicious. I shared the Caesar salad which sounded very unique but was absolutely awesome. For my meal I had the burger and it was delicious! At the table we also had the pork chop, the chicken sandwich and the linguini and clams and everyone raved about their dishes. PSA - Service Bar has a new chef and you must try his food asap! This was a totally diff experience from last time I visited about a year ago. Next time anyone asks for a more upscale yet unpretentious dinner, this on my short list of recommendations. I love the ambiance... moody and vibey and elevated. The bar is a work of art in and of itself. The food is beautiful yet totally comforting. Elevated Midwest food with Italian inspiration. My favorite. The Duck Confit Gnudi blew me away and so did the Lamb Shank. Those are must orders. Pappardelle is my go-to Italian dish and this one was excellent. Handmade pasta that had the perfect texture. My friend Rosalie and I had a full-blown conversation about the noodles being "QQ" - a term originating from Taiwan that is basically the Asian version of "al dente." Soft, chewy and bouncy - but not mushy. These noodles were QQ. For starters, both the Lake Erie Rillettes (walleye) and Porchetta & Burrata Toast are worth trying and great for sharing. Cocktails are gorgeous and tasty - all using Middle West Spirits. We both loved the Oaxacan 75. Such a fun take on a French 75 with much more flavor and spice and complexity. I've been searching for restaurants that have squash blossoms on their menu and was glad I finally made it in to Service Bar. The restaurant is connected to Middle West Spirits and there were lots of options highlighting the spirits they make. I enjoyed the green curry mussels and both the crème brûlée and bananas foster with black sesame topping for a nice twist. It was a slow night but our server and FOH staff were super tentative. Also, parking in the adjacent lot is available to customers after 5:00. The signage is outdated and I ended up driving around looking for parking when I didn't have to. Haven't been in a while after a bad experience post-Avishar. I'd heard that there was a new chef and everything was turning around. Sorry, no dice. Menu was pretty uninspired to begin with. Drinks were delicious. That's where the good ends. Someone posted that the wings here were better than Citizens Trust/Veritas. False. They were terrible. Small, mushy, and fall off the bone in a sort of creepy way (slimey?). Endive cups were just ok, quite bitter which I know is how endives taste but the stuff on top just didn't complement that at all. Burger was pink which I typically prefer but it had been sitting on the bun so long that the bun was wet, red and mushy. Other than moderately raw tasting the burger was flavorless. Duck fat fries had no flavor except salt, and were just meh. Homemade mayonnaise tasted only of lemon. Might go back for cocktails. Not interested in the food again. read more

First off, one of our friends is vegetarian and as soon as the staff found out the chef sent fries not cooked in duck fat to the table. The best thing about Service Bar was not the service but the restrooms. The restrooms had a lovely bourbon scented candle. Nice touch. Let's talk about the drinks. If you are ok with ice cubes the size of your head, consuming 90% of the available volume of your glass, this is the place for you. (Notice the size of the glass and napkin for reference.) They tasted fine. We decided to treat ourselves with desert before dinner. The Apple fritters arrived smelling like burnt toaster crumbs. They looked like tiny meteors that landed on earth in a puddle of cinnamon sugar with no apple in sight. Their saving grace was the pillsbury cinnamon roll icing. When asked how the apple fritters were, we responded with "they are a little burnt" and we received a "really?" and an eye role. And then we were charged for said fritters. read more

Best bar in the Fifth and High area. Service Bar is pretty classy but casual. The prices are kind of high but everything here is high quality. Cocktails are made skillfully and look awesome. Food is a good match for these. A great thing about this bar is that it uses lots of local products. It's attached to Middle West Spirits. This is who makes the OYO liquors popular in bars around here. It of course is used in many of their cocktails. The specialty cocktails are about $12 each. It's quite high for this area. The ingredients they use are just high quality. Food menu is a good compliment. The Red Cabbage Caesar is about $7 for a bowl of red cabbage, puffed rice, and tahini. It's a good light eat. There doesn't seem to be a happy hour. Overall it's a good place for trying locally made liquor. Be sure to get something made with OYO in it. Re-opened earlier this month after a hiatus during COVID featuring a new chef, Chris Connolly. It's an upscale place which you can tell from the interior design, server interactions, menu, and the super thicc paper towels in the bathrooms...like the kind you find in 5-star hotels. Everyone ordered a cocktail and loved their drinks. I don't drink so I only got a ginger beer so I can't really comment on the mixed drink aspect. For food, we ordered two each of gnudi and hearth roasted delicata squash for 7 people. It was enough for everyone to get 1.33 of everything so the portions aren't huge. The gnudi was like a dumpling filled with little pieces of butternut squash and the delicata squash was featured with a nice mole sauce. I liked the delicata squash more and really enjoyed the complexity of the mole sauce. I didn't think I liked mole, but I guess I do now! For my entree, I ordered the burger and hubs ordered the chicken sandwich. He really liked the extra crispy breading of the chicken. My burger was honestly just ok. I asked for it well done and it was pretty dry without much going on in terms of flavor. My entree was the only one that came with a side of horseradish-containing sauce and a side of ketchup, I assume for my fries. The chicken sandwich didn't have any ketchup even though it also came with fries so that was a little weird. My friends ordered the red kuri squash risotto and really enjoyed it so it just depends on the dish you order. Overall, I don't think it's a place I'll be rushing to come back to, but would come back if others wanted to try it out. read more

AMAZING! We went on a Saturday night and it was busy (would recommend a reservation). We didn't have a reservation and the hostess was so nice he let us have a table since the bar was full and the table was open from a no show. The cocktails were so good! Very creative and delicious. We had the beet and burrata for an app which was a perfect combination of flavors. We had the risotto and gnudi for entrees. The risotto was fantastic definitely one of the best risottos I've had. Have I really never left a review for Service Bar? I freaking love this place. In my opinion, Service Bar is one of the best dinner and drink spots in Columbus. From the incredibly well-thought-out food menu to the craft cocktail selection, Service Bar is ahead of the game. They also have a solid bourbon selection... which is a big deal for a city that is slightly lacking on bourbon bars. As for the food, you have to try the Cheese and Pooff... just trust me. The cheesy brisket crunch is awesome too. It's a fun play on Taco Bell's cheesy Gordita crunch. The inside of Service Bar gives off speak easy vibes and the old bar is magnificent. My recent trip to Service Bar was the best dining experience I've had in Columbus. We visited on a Saturday night for my birthday dinner. From the second we walked in the door, all of the employees were wonderful, kind, and helpful. It was incredibly difficult to narrow down what to order, because I wanted almost everything on the menu. Our server gave thoughtful recommendations and described some dishes in a way that almost made the whole table change their orders. We ordered several cocktails - I stuck with the Poison Oak cocktail throughout the night. Our server created the cocktail at our table and poured the mixture over a sugar cube and mixed the drink together. Here's what the table ordered to share: Cheese & Poof Blistered Brussels sprouts salad Bread and spread (secret menu item) Cheesy Brisket crunch Individual dishes: Short rib Pasta (secret menu dish) Crispy ribs Hot & Sour Lamb Noodle Stew We ordered dessert from the secret menu - decorate your own chocolate cake. They provided the frosting, cake, and topping and we got to decorate the cake at the table. I love how interactive and fun it was to create our own dessert. The food was so wonderful. Drinks were awesome, my friends would not stop talking about the burger "best burger and fries they've ever had" - I'm vegan but it looked great. The grits had curry spices so it was an explosion of flavor. Bonus is the shrimp wasn't over cooked. Accessibility: Cheese and Poof is essentially pimento cheese dip with pork rinds. But it's the best darn pimento cheese and pork rinds you'll ever have. The Cheesy Brisket Crunch? Sounds like an item from a fast food place, doesn't it? You wouldn't be far off. Excellent! Love how the chef incorporates Bangladeshi flavors into some of the dishes! I had the shrimp and grits, which had a "malaikari" flavor, which is like a coconut curry flavor. It was amazing and the tiger shrimo were cooked perfectly. I loved the sweet and tangy pickled eggplants too. My husband had the short ribs, which came with bao bread and had an overall Korean vibe in flavors, equally tasty. My friend had the whole chicken service, which is enough to feed 3-4 people. She could not rave enough about the fried chicken and naan bread. I will have to come back and try that for sure. Really nice service as well. It's awkward that I haven't written a review of Service Bar because I go here at least once a week. Hell, last week I went there three times. First off, it has a parking lot!!!! So, great for taking a bunch of suburban-ites or out-of-towners who don't want to figure out the insane SN parking situation. Second, this is one of the few places where a person of color is the chef! And the menu reflects his heritage (Bangladesh) and his experience at other, famous restaurants (e.g. Mission Chinese). For example, on a recent visit, I had the Shrimp and Grits. The shrimp were (perfectly) cooked in a Bengali malai curry style and went perfectly with the coconut infused grits. Such a great amalgamation of the American South and South Asia. Yum! Other MVPs on the menu include the cheesy pouf (recommend the veggie version), the lamb or veggie dumplings, the bread and spread, and the crispy ribs. Third, Service Bar is INCREDIBLY accommodating for GF, veggie and vegan folks. In fact, they have a separate vegetarian/vegan menu. I do wish this place had brunch because a. I'm a basic bitch and b. it's a distillery and I can just imagine those brunch cocktails would be fabulous. Oh well! We *finally* tried Service Bar and it exceeded our high expectations! My husband and I toured the Middle West Spirits facility last summer (highly recommend the tour!) and we saw how beautiful the restaurant space would be. The bar has rich history and it is clear the owners wanted to maintain the architecture of the building but also have style. It was cozy yet airy and perfect for a winter date night! We made a reservation and were glad we did - the place was quickly packed on a Saturday evening. Our server immediately greeted us and took her time (and multiple trips) to orient us to the cocktails, the menu, and describe the specials. Clearly we were already huge OYO fans, so the extensive cocktail list was exciting and easy to navigate with the help of our waitress. I tried the Mind F*uck - the perfect 'adult' cocktail without being too bitter. I try to walk the line between sweet and fruity and bitter and boozy cocktails. My husband had the draft Cider House Rules - very complex cinnamon/boozy/bitter taste. He loved it but it was a smidge on the bitter side for my taste. Once we ordered our drinks and had a chance to try them, our waitress helped us navigate the menu. She explained the menu has a good mix of portion sizes and recommended we try many items and the kitchen would course the meal for us. This was the perfect approach!!! We started with the lamb dumplings - the smell of the sauce alone was to die for. The dumplings were on the smaller side and come in a serving of six so I think they are a good appetizer. They were so tender and the lamb was sweet with a slightly spicy but complex sesame oil concoction. I can't describe the flavor - you will just have to try it yourself. Next came the Cheesy Brisket Crunch - all those reviews comparing it to to a Taco Bell crunchwrap supreme had the right concept but were sorely mistaken. First off, the order comes with two large tacos - easy to split and likely too much food for one person. The traditional crunchy corn tortilla is wrapped in an Indian bread with cheese in-between. The inside is piled with incredible brisket, lettuce, more cheese, and this creamy guacamole sauce. Moral of the story - it will blow your mind and fill your tummy. At this point, I had already said we were coming back again at least five times.... but the steak special arrived. Great news - the waitress said the steak special will become a regular menu item! This was the highlight of the night. The steak was one of the best we have ever had with an incredible sauce, crispy onions, polenta, greens, and a pepper and onion mix. We desperately tried to slowly savor this course. We didn't save room for dessert but they options looked good. The three menu items were the perfect amount of food for the two of us to share. You have to try this restaurant! Come with an open mind and plenty of time to explore the drinks and menu. Get to know your server and ask questions so you can create the perfect meal. read more

Best burger in Columbus. There, I said it. Service Bar's menu is pretty great, but the burger keeps us coming back. Bonus points for an amazing gluten-free bun (shown in photo) that you would never in a million years think is gluten-free. I also love getting the bread & spread here, because their gluten-free bread is exceptional. It comes with the most delicious, spreads. The last time we had the Parmesan custard with it. Definitely two thumbs up! They always have the most unique desserts. Cocktails are very good, as well. Highly recommend for a fun night out with friends or a date night! Just make a reservation far in advance, especially for larger parties. They fill up quickly (for good reason!). read more

We come here for all manner of special occasion and often just for their delicious cocktails. Derek and Eric at the bar (which is beautiful) are great and Adam and Chris are great servers. At this point we've had more that's been on the menu than hadn't, with some favorites being the short rib with bao buns, the duck, the Brussels sprouts salad (seasonal), many of their pulled noodle dishes and house-made pastas...
