This is my favorite "go to" restaurant in Dupont Circle. Nothing beats sitting outside on a nice night eating real Italian food that is simple and high quality. The manager always greets me like a friend, and I appreciate that, too. The Pizza Regina is like a real Italian Margherita with fresh mozzarella and basil. It's a bit pricey but so much better than the "Margherita" listed on the menu. I've had most things on the menu and all are good. Cappuccino is great, too. read more

I walked in with 3 friends. We were greeted and seated immediately. The waitress came by, brought water, and took out drink orders. I ordered the bourbon drink from the menu. It was a healthy pour of bourbon. She recommended an appetizer of Frito Misto. It was brought to our table quickly, and was piping hot and crispy. We ordered our entrees. I had the swordfish special, and it was some of the best swordfish I've ever had. Tender and not overcooked. Others ordered pizza and pasta dishes, and those were great as well as we shared across the table. All in all, great food and great service. Got food poisoning from the spaghetti and meatballs. Luckily it wasn't very good (frozen meatballs) so I only had a few bites but let me tell you, stomach pain, vomiting, chills right before I was about to go to bed (6 hours after eating the food). Also, I read some of the reviews and someone else got food poisoning from the spaghetti and meatballs. Finally, server took forever to come to our table. read more

Management informed my group after we sat down that it's required to order food to get the bottomless mimosas deal (one member did order lunch, whereas the rest of us had already eaten). This announcement did not come until we had already finished one round of drinks and the stipulation was not anywhere on signs or menus, nor did our server inform us that we'd need to buy food to get the deal when we first ordered drinks. Think twice before coming here and clarify their deals multiple times before ordering. Update in response to the blatant lies posted from management below: (1) I regret not photographing the signs and menus, but there was no stipulation about ordering food marked on this deal. There was a stipulation about a 2 hour maximum on the deal, but there was nothing about the food requirement. It's also worth noting that we saw another table having this same issue in the room when we were there. (2) We received one complimentary round of drinks, not two. We all paid for two drinks by the glass. (3) We did not consistently change our mind about ordering food -- all but one of us ordered only drinks initially and were up front with our server about this decision. Once we were told that we'd need to buy food we inquired about possibly splitting appetizers to satisfy the requirement. Upon reflecting further on what was occurring, we decided instead to pay for drinks by the glass. This indecision, again, was a result of the lack of communication on the part of the restaurant. It's not that difficult to have this stipulation marked on a menu. Thus, it feels like this is some sort of deception. Came for brunch on a whim last Sunday. The service was fine, no complaints but it wasn't spectacular. The food was pretty good though. I had a half order of the carbonara with an arugula salad. I'm glad I got the salad to go with it because I don't think the half portion of pasta would have been enough on its own, but it was perfect with the salad. The BF got the Italian Toast. The description says "fried eggs, spinach, Prosciutto Di Parma, hollandaise sauce". In my mind, I pictured toast with all of that stuff on top of it. What he got was just those ingredients all separated (so, toast next to eggs next to some prosciutto with hollandaise on the side). He said it was good, but I think it just wasn't quite what either of us was expecting. There was a lot more prosciutto than either of us was expecting though so at least that was good. I've been wanting to come for happy hour, but based on some of the reviews I might hold off on that. We'll probably be back, if only because it's so convenient for us and the brunch was decent. read more

It was Christmas morning 2017, with very few places in this neighborhood open. We ended up here, and this was so good, it will a first choice in the future. The food was good, atmosphere good, and we were lucky enough to have Darko as our waiter. He made this Christmas brunch wonderful. This place completely burnt my meatballs to the point where they were inedible. I did not ask for my money back, I did not ask for a new meal. I will NEVER come back. I ordered a basic, easy to make dish and it was absolutely disgusting. Further, when I told the waitress she apologized, said the food is usually not like this, and did absolutely nothing further. Clearly it is acceptable to charge people for burnt food at this restaurant. I just went on June 3rd, at around 5pm and it will be my LAST time. My favorite is the Scialatelli (homemade short basil fettucine/fresh tomato sauce/smoked mozzarella/eggplant). Went for brunch with a couple of my girlfriends and we ALL enjoyed our meals. I got the Cuvo Cotto (baked eggs, san marzano tomato, feta cheese, bacon, wheat toast) it was delicious, just wish it came with more toast it only came with one piece, I had to order more. Food is ok, the outdoor eating area is nice in the spring/ fall... it is fine... I'm just not wow-ed I have friends who really, really love Sette and as a result I have been 8 or 10 times. It isn't as if I am being dragged kicking and screaming... there is nothing particularly objectionable about the food and the ambiance is quite pleasant... it just isn't all that memorable. The pizza is fine.. again there was nothing wrong but it just didn't light my world on fire. It is a really safe choice- if you are going with a group and unsure of what people will eat then it is a virtual guarantee that everyone will be fine... but it isn't somewhere I would necessarily actively seek out. read more

We recommend their "ravioli Della nonna", " sette sliders","flatbread : wild mushrooms" and "salsiccia alla griglia". All of these are $5 and are tasty! We've also tried the " bruschette" which make you want to eat more of them lol! and the simple Margherita pizza which was equally delicious, only thing we w ould ask them to bring back which is so simple and delicious is the small pitcher of olive oil filled with red hot peppers so we can drench the pizza with it lol. Nothing to rave nor grievously whine about here. A prime location on Connecticut Ave in Dupont Circle unfortunately allows Sette to get away with mediocre food and service. I had the Margherita pizza with added fresh tomatoes. Very tasty, but that's not saying much, most Margherita pizzas are -- who doesn't love dough and cheese?? What DID look rather scrumptious, were two platters to be found under the Antipasti -- a meat plate and a cheese plate. They came with gorgeous looking smoked meats / cheese and bread and olive oil. Though listed under the Antipasti section, they definitely could have satisfied me as my meal, especially if sharing. Bright and clean look to the place, striving for a bit of Italian flare with tiles on the floor and soccer playing on the bar television. Service abominably slow. Wouldn't choose to go back, but if dragged, I wouldn't be screaming or kicking either. read more

I've been going to Sette Osteria for the past 10 or so years - one of my favorite places in DC. However, my most recent visit this week was a disappointment. I ordered carbonara, which was swimming in sauce and oil. My dessert was mediocre at best. This was a brunch/lunch time, so my first meal of the day. This is one of the better restaurants I have been to in DC, I am surprised it is not busier because the food and the service are top notch. From The moment we Sachin in the restaurant until the moment we left the waitress made us feel like welcome patrons. Eytota was our waitress and her knowledge of the menu was excellent and she made some great recommendations for our meals. I ordered the Fettuccini Bolognese and it was full of flavor. Mr Man and I came here for a late lunch after a day of being touristy in Dupont Circle. It was late in the afternoon, so there were only 1 or 2 other tables in the place. Like others have said, this place was a little underwhelming. The service was prompt and pleasant, and the food was OK, but there was nothing I would really come back for. OK, wait. I take that back. The pizza we ordered, the Indiavolata, sounded incredibly promising with it's spicy sausage deliciousness! Unfortunately, I found it incredibly bland. So bland that I asked for some Parmesan to sprinkle over it, just to give it some FLAVOR. I mean, I could SEE the red pepper flakes on the sausage, but the punch just wasn't there. Just to clarify, I am NOT one of those people that drowns things in hot sauce, and I never use salt on my food. Something was just off! I enjoyed the rabe, it was something different to have on pizza. I think I WOULD come back to try another pizza, because the crust was INCREDIBLE. So much potential for a Perfect Pizza! Thin, crispy (but not crunchy!) on the outside, and nice and chewy inside. Sooo good. But what good is a great crust if the toppings fall so completely short?! I'd come back and make sure to order a pizza with a stronger cheese and more flavorful ingredients, cuz I think it could be AMAZING. We also ordered the fried calamari, which was light, maybe a little greasy, and the spicy tomato sauce was nice. The rest of the menu sounds very good--the pastas, the mozzarella salads, the entrees. They all sound like simple, classic Italian dishes, but I wonder if simple also means bland and tasteless? If you're in the neighborhood, pop in and give Sette a try. NOTE: Bad, bad service. This is the perfect example of how terrible service can prevent one from noticing even the best tasting food. The Italians took me to this cafe/pizzeria because a close acquaintance of theirs owns the establishment as well as the Cafe Milano, which is a very popular restaurant in Georgetown. Right from the start, we were turned off. The young, female host was cold in personality and didn't welcome us or make us feel at home. Luckily the table they placed us in was cozy and felt intimate enough. The waiter we had, Adam B., was immediately very rushed, anxious and lacked in customer service in general. Ultimately, we would be the reason we will never return and at the same time, we will never encourage or recommend this place to any of the other friends of theirs. He would find offense and act irritably even to the smallest request as asking for more coffee, which by the way he promised 20 minutes prior to because they were making a fresh pot. Apparently, they needed to ship the coffee beans from the hills of Italy, because it took forever. We asked for an extra cup, and he asked again irritably why and looked confused. The point is, we needed one, and there was no need to ask us why. He barely came to our table so we had to keep calling him over. When we asked questions about the size of the pizzas, he annoyingly walked away and came back with an example size plate. Weird. Anyway, it was just a series of moments when we felt our waiter was continuously being inconvenienced when asked for the simplest of requests. The acting manager was not any better either. Because our server was avoiding us, we then asked her to split the check three ways, she interrupted us, and said she was sending our rude waiter over because she didn't understand what we were asking of her. She was the manager! Needless to say, the pizzas, calamari (grilled and fried) were superb. We loved the food. But do we dare come back? Absolutely not. Sorry, but the food wasn't nearly that wonderful for us to endure the poor, poor service this place seems to radiate. read more

I'd been to Sette Osteria which is why I went there looking for dinner on a recent trip to DC. Unfortunately while the location is very well located near Dupont Circle, the food was very disappointing - particularly so given the prices. I had the grilled vegetable plate (peppers and eggplant) for an appetizer. The contents of my plate were apparently immediately removed from the refrigerator - it was cold, not even close to room temperature. Thick raw slices of garlic were dumped into the vegetables to make up for the fact that they sure as heck weren't grilled that day. It might have even been last week. Since there were so many pizzas listed on the menu I thought I've try one out. I asked for the spinach and ricotto version. The pizza arrived on a cold plate and so was only lukewarm. The crust was bready, chewy and tough. The spinach was thinly scattered in an unartistic manner while the ricotto was applied heavily and thickly using an ice cream scoop. Very disappointing. They don't have any inexpensive red wine. Where's the chianti? I had an $11 glass of mediocre wine. I will never come back. Blech! read more

The pinot noir we had was great, but the wine list was lacking in selection of lower priced options. The advertised happy hour pizza and wine special is only for the bar, which they should also have made clearer. Our calamari sauce was so spicy it should really have been labeled fra diablo. However, the calamari were lightly battered and perfectly crisp, and almost didn't need any sauce. The thick slabs of pizza crust style bread were unnecessary, though if I'd had pasta they would have been an excellent vehicle for any left over sauce. However, I went with the pizza margherita, which was absolutely wonderful. I couldn't help myself from eating the whole thing, even though I swore I'd be good! It had a perfect light char, beautiful bright pieces of basil and the cheese was not overwhelming. I would definitely go back for the pizza! read more

I came here last Friday with my family & had a nice experience. We had a 6:30 reservation, got there a little early, but were seated immediately. We got the fried calamari & zucchini as an appetizer & it was really good. When we asked for extra marinara, our waitress brought some spicy marinara sauce that tasted really good. We ended up dipping our bread in it! I got a Caesar salad with salmon & it was okay. I should have gotten pasta, but it was still good. I asked for the salmon to be blackened and our waitress said ok, but it wasn't blackened. That was my only negative. Still a good salad. My dad got the lasagna & liked it. My sister got the arrrabiata pasta & liked it as well. Since I checked in on yelp we got free Nutella bites - very tasty & a large portion. My sister also got the wild berry cheesecake & it was really good. Overall, it was a good experience. I'd definitely come back. read more

"Insipid" is not a word one encounters much any more, but in the case of Sette Osteria, it applies perfectly. The food, though generally well made and well presented, is bland, lacking seasonings where you'd expect them, and needing salt when you wouldn't expect to need to add it. There were three of us who stopped in to Sette for lunch earlier this week; we each ordered something very different, and shared portions with each other. Friend #1: Soup of the Day (Squash bisque with cannelloni beans, with a garnish of crispy proscuitto), and a plate of three assorted bruschetti, one with chopped tomato, one with olive tapenade, one with chopped mushrooms. The soup tasted like baby food with canned beans added: blendered blandness with a hint of sweetness in the squash puree, the beans adding a bit of bland texture, and only the proscuitto adding interest and some taste. The little bruschetti were serviceable. The best was the olive tapenade; the worst was the tomato, that tasted like it was made with those tomatoes that come three-to-a-white-plastic-tray, wrapped in cellophane when they are still green, and left to ripen while in transit to the grocery store -- no taste, tough, and hard. Friend #2: Lasagna, a stack of several large squares of wavy, somewhat overcooked lasagna, drenched in tomato sauce (looked like it was poured over the pasta) the color of a Halloween pumpkin, with bits and pieces of meat that seemed to be ground beef. It reminded me of the sauce that comes in all Chef Boyardee canned pasta products: orange and sweet. The lasagna was bland and overly sweet; there was only a hint of cheese in one or two of the layers. Me: I ordered a good-sized personal pizza called the "Verdona": oregano-flavored ricotta cheese, spinach, black olives, capers & fresh mozzarella. My first bite had virtually no taste. I'd expected a rush of oregano at the very outset, but there was none. I asked the waitron who had delivered our food for grated cheese, which she brought and added for me. Only a marginal improvement in the taste. I finally had to salt the pizza, and add flakes of crushed red pepper to get something going on my palate. The saltiness of the capers and black olives (both fine, quality ingredients, but a little more of each would have helped) were welcome little bursts of flavor. The baby spinach had been put raw onto the pizza; it was cooked unevenly and its presence on the pizza was only visual, not gustatory. The crust was thin, bubbly and chewy, as it should be, but too sweet. All in all, not that bad, and reasonably priced at $10, but it left much to be desired. We shared a half-liter carafe of a house red called "Mezzo di Montepulciano" ($20) (literally "mixture of Montepulciano [wines]" -- i.e., mixed wine from Montepulciano, Italy, rather than a wine made from the varietal Montepulciano grape). It reminded me of a full-bodied, old-vine zinfandel -- dark and fruity and very enjoyable, but WAY overpriced at $20 for a half liter, which works out to about $40 a bottle. For that money, the wine should have been much better quality, or served in a larger quantity. What was disturbing about the wine, however, was the unsightly deposit of sediment at the bottom of the carafe, which showed up in the carafe and in our glasses when we poured out the last of the wine. We brought this to the attention of our server, who said he would tell the manager, and took the carafe and one of the wine glasses with him as proof. The waiter came back with the bill, with no apology from the manager, and with the wine still on our bill. This is just wrong, and we reflected our disappointment in the tip. The waiter should have been more assertive with his manager about this. I think that the variety in the cross-sampling of the foods we tried at this meal allows me to conclude the following: If you want to take your children or teenagers out to an Italian restaurant where they will love anything on the menu, I think this is the place. It is not an Italian restaurant for grown-ups who know Italian food. The food is bland and sweet, and does not challenge or overwhelm in any good way. If ever there was a restaurant that was the McDonald's of Italian food, this is probably it. read more

Excellent pizza. Nice, crispy crust, and fresh mozzarela. Make sure to order with tomato sauce for $1 extra to avoid a dry experience. The pizza prices were fine at about $12. The prociutto, arugula and garlic on top made very happy, as did the cilantro! The lemon zest salad was refreshing and understated. I didn't like the $4 iced tea in a big bottle (Republic of Tea brand). Well, the ice tea tasted fine, but I didn't want to pay that much for it, and ordered ice tea b/c I love refills. My compadre paid $3.25 for a coke. So, I'm not stuffed, which is fine. The place was busy and has a nice, outdoor porch. They seated me promptly and not too rushed. read more
