I had lunch with a friend this past Monday. We stopped on a whim and am I glad we did. It's a charming place on the corner with some nicely hidden outside seating. We were greeted warmly and allowed to choose where we wanted to sit. Our server came up two us with a smile, a water pitcher and menus. She introduced us as she pored water,told us about the luncheon specials and took our drink order. They have a very nice selection of beer, both bottles and on draught (draft) and a nice selection of wines both by glass and half and full bottles. When she returned with our drinks she took our order and gave us some bread, which were little squares baked in a pizza over and slightly charred along with some olive oil for dipping. Delicious! And, addicting. The extensive menu is nice as it allows you to have half plates of almost all entrees. A good selection of salad, pizzas and entrees. I had a spicy (arribiata) sauce over pasta and it was fabulous. Just spicy enough for me (I like hot) and the right amount, considering the bread I put away. My companion had a salad, which she enjoyed very much. She said the lettuce was crisp and the dressing divine. The service was wonderful. Right there when you needed them but not overly present. We lingered for several hours and had a wonderful time. we were checked upon about every 15 minutes, which was appropriate. I will go back and I suggest you put Sette Osteria on you list of restaurants to check out and enjoy. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful experience. read more

My family and I went here in December. The food was greasy and expensive. The waiter did not seem to understand much English (and I have no accent, whatsoever), so when I ordered the Chianti wine that my mom, sister, and I wanted to share, I had to point to it on the menu. I asked for the $25 bottle of Chianti. Upon returning home and seeing that we were charged $34 for the bottle of Chianti, I found out from looking online that the $25 Chianti was only for half a bottle. I wish our waiter would have corrected me when I ordered it and said that the $25 one is only half a bottle, but if I want a whole bottle of Chianti, it would be $34 instead. He did not do this, but instead just charged us for the whole bottle amount and gave us a whole bottle of wine. The way that their wine menu was set up at the time was confusing. The wine list went as follows: Prosecco White Wines - It was unclear which ones were prices per glass and per bottle (cheapest - $8, most expensive - $175) White Wines (half bottle) Red Wines (half bottle) Red Wines - The most expensive wine on this list was $12 Seeing that the most expensive wine on the list of Red Wines was only $12, I assumed that it was not for an entire bottle. Therefore, I ordered what I assumed was the whole bottle of Chianti from the more expensive Red Wine list, which apparently was only for the half bottle. I'm not sure if there was a whole bottle list of Red Wine separate from the other ones on the back of the menu or somewhere else, but the whole menu was just very confusing. Anyone could have made this mistake. However, like I said, I wish the waiter would have corrected me or let me know that I was reading the menu incorrectly. My mother wrote a review about this incident, but was assured that she made a mistake and wrote about the wrong restaurant. They sent her a link to their menu which looked very different from the menu that we saw when we went there. I don't know if the menu has been changed, updated, or altered, but the restaurant made a complaint about my mother's review and her review was deleted. read more

Came for brunch on a whim last Sunday. The service was fine, no complaints but it wasn't spectacular. The food was pretty good though. I had a half order of the carbonara with an arugula salad. I'm glad I got the salad to go with it because I don't think the half portion of pasta would have been enough on its own, but it was perfect with the salad. The BF got the Italian Toast. The description says "fried eggs, spinach, Prosciutto Di Parma, hollandaise sauce". In my mind, I pictured toast with all of that stuff on top of it. What he got was just those ingredients all separated (so, toast next to eggs next to some prosciutto with hollandaise on the side). He said it was good, but I think it just wasn't quite what either of us was expecting. There was a lot more prosciutto than either of us was expecting though so at least that was good. I've been wanting to come for happy hour, but based on some of the reviews I might hold off on that. We'll probably be back, if only because it's so convenient for us and the brunch was decent. read more

It was Christmas morning 2017, with very few places in this neighborhood open. We ended up here, and this was so good, it will a first choice in the future. The food was good, atmosphere good, and we were lucky enough to have Darko as our waiter. He made this Christmas brunch wonderful. This place completely burnt my meatballs to the point where they were inedible. I did not ask for my money back, I did not ask for a new meal. I will NEVER come back. I ordered a basic, easy to make dish and it was absolutely disgusting. Further, when I told the waitress she apologized, said the food is usually not like this, and did absolutely nothing further. Clearly it is acceptable to charge people for burnt food at this restaurant. I just went on June 3rd, at around 5pm and it will be my LAST time. Went for brunch with a couple of my girlfriends and we ALL enjoyed our meals. I got the Cuvo Cotto (baked eggs, san marzano tomato, feta cheese, bacon, wheat toast) it was delicious, just wish it came with more toast it only came with one piece, I had to order more. We ordered the cheese platter as an appetizer and then had pizzas. I have to say the bresaola pizza was the best. I've been thinking about it for days. We were too full for dessert but ordered the mousse to share, and it was incredible. Since we don't live close by, I have been trying to find a recipe to try and duplicate it. ,We love this restaurant and we only come for happy hour once a month,but we've done it for a while It really is an excuse to eat their delicious food and incidentally have a drink. We recommend their "ravioli Della nonna", " sette sliders","flatbread : wild mushrooms" and "salsiccia alla griglia". All of these are $5 and are tasty! We've also tried the " bruschette" which make you want to eat more of them lol! and the simple Margherita pizza which was equally delicious, only thing we w ould ask them to bring back which is so simple and delicious is the small pitcher of olive oil filled with red hot peppers so we can drench the pizza with it lol. I've been going to Sette Osteria for the past 10 or so years - one of my favorite places in DC. However, my most recent visit this week was a disappointment. I ordered carbonara, which was swimming in sauce and oil. My dessert was mediocre at best. This was a brunch/lunch time, so my first meal of the day. By the time I got home, I got a really upset stomach and felt sick. Will give it another go, but with a lot more caution. read more

This is one of the better restaurants I have been to in DC, I am surprised it is not busier because the food and the service are top notch. From The moment we Sachin in the restaurant until the moment we left the waitress made us feel like welcome patrons. Eytota was our waitress and her knowledge of the menu was excellent and she made some great recommendations for our meals. I ordered the Fettuccini Bolognese and it was full of flavor. Sette Osteria is a solid pick if you want reasonably priced Italian food in Dupont Circle. My favorite is the Scialatelli (homemade short basil fettucine/fresh tomato sauce/smoked mozzarella/eggplant). I came here last Friday with my family & had a nice experience. We had a 6:30 reservation, got there a little early, but were seated immediately. We got the fried calamari & zucchini as an appetizer & it was really good. When we asked for extra marinara, our waitress brought some spicy marinara sauce that tasted really good. We ended up dipping our bread in it! I got a Caesar salad with salmon & it was okay. I should have gotten pasta, but it was still good. I asked for the salmon to be blackened and our waitress said ok, but it wasn't blackened. That was my only negative. Still a good salad. My dad got the lasagna & liked it. My sister got the arrrabiata pasta & liked it as well. Since I checked in on yelp we got free Nutella bites - very tasty & a large portion. Went to this brunch spot earlier today with 8 of my girl friends. Definitely the place to go for a bottomless mimosa drink & brunch special on the weekends. I ordered a greek salad with chicken which was decent. A lot of my friends ordered omelets and said they were just alright too. Food is ok, the outdoor eating area is nice in the spring/ fall... it is fine... I'm just not wow-ed I have friends who really, really love Sette and as a result I have been 8 or 10 times. It isn't as if I am being dragged kicking and screaming... there is nothing particularly objectionable about the food and the ambiance is quite pleasant... it just isn't all that memorable. The pizza is fine.. again there was nothing wrong but it just didn't light my world on fire. It is a really safe choice- if you are going with a group and unsure of what people will eat then it is a virtual guarantee that everyone will be fine... but it isn't somewhere I would necessarily actively seek out. read more

Came here for a quick drink before heading back home on the metro after a Saturday brunch day. This place actually really nice. I love the outside setup they have and the inside is beautiful. I wouldn't say this is a drink day type of bar unless you do the brunch. It's more upscale and it seems like a place people would go for a nice dinner or nice lunch. Overall it was a good experience. Barely finished that and dinner was there. For lunch, might be fine but for dinner we were hoping for a more relaxing experience. I had the Margherita pizza with added fresh tomatoes. Very tasty, but that's not saying much, most Margherita pizzas are -- who doesn't love dough and cheese?? What DID look rather scrumptious, were two platters to be found under the Antipasti -- a meat plate and a cheese plate. They came with gorgeous looking smoked meats / cheese and bread and olive oil. Though listed under the Antipasti section, they definitely could have satisfied me as my meal, especially if sharing. Bright and clean look to the place, striving for a bit of Italian flare with tiles on the floor and soccer playing on the bar television. Service abominably slow. I've gone twice and the gnocchi is amazing. Fluffy and cheesy and delicious. The service is fast and friendly. The main dishes are well priced, I think the apps are a bit overpriced. Depending on time it can go from no one there to everyone fast. Last time I went an appetizer came to the table with it still frozen in the middle which was very disappointing. They took it back and brought out a new one a bit later. I would go again if in the area but probably would not seek out specifically. read more

Tried this place recently during restaurant week. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. The ambience was nice and liked the large windows looking out toward Dupont circle. The food was also pretty good. I had the butternut squash soup. It was nice and hot and a good texture. Not watery or too thick. I also had the chicken with a mesclun salad. Chicken was a tad overdone so a bit hard to chew but the flavoring was good. I think the highlight of the meal was the molten chocolate cake with vanilla gelato. Again the cake came out warm and it wasn't too sweet and had the right amount of chocolate. The raspberry syrup drizzled on top hit the right spot. Definitely would go back again! read more

Mr Man and I came here for a late lunch after a day of being touristy in Dupont Circle. It was late in the afternoon, so there were only 1 or 2 other tables in the place. Like others have said, this place was a little underwhelming. The service was prompt and pleasant, and the food was OK, but there was nothing I would really come back for. OK, wait. I take that back. The pizza we ordered, the Indiavolata, sounded incredibly promising with it's spicy sausage deliciousness! Unfortunately, I found it incredibly bland. So bland that I asked for some Parmesan to sprinkle over it, just to give it some FLAVOR. I mean, I could SEE the red pepper flakes on the sausage, but the punch just wasn't there. Just to clarify, I am NOT one of those people that drowns things in hot sauce, and I never use salt on my food. Something was just off! I enjoyed the rabe, it was something different to have on pizza. I think I WOULD come back to try another pizza, because the crust was INCREDIBLE. So much potential for a Perfect Pizza! Thin, crispy (but not crunchy!) on the outside, and nice and chewy inside. Sooo good. But what good is a great crust if the toppings fall so completely short?! I'd come back and make sure to order a pizza with a stronger cheese and more flavorful ingredients, cuz I think it could be AMAZING. We also ordered the fried calamari, which was light, maybe a little greasy, and the spicy tomato sauce was nice. The rest of the menu sounds very good--the pastas, the mozzarella salads, the entrees. They all sound like simple, classic Italian dishes, but I wonder if simple also means bland and tasteless? If you're in the neighborhood, pop in and give Sette a try. I really want to like this place, because we live only a few blocks away. I've had several mediocre experiences at the restaurant, but the last visit deserves a review. We placed the easiest order you could possibly place - just two entrées, nothing else. Exactly 45 minutes later, the waitress admitted she messed up the order and brought three pieces of crackers (not even bread) to our table while we wait for food to come out. Not once she checked on us during the 40-50 minute wait or offered anything for making us wait for almost an hour! This kind of service is unacceptable. read more

NOTE: Bad, bad service. This is the perfect example of how terrible service can prevent one from noticing even the best tasting food. The Italians took me to this cafe/pizzeria because a close acquaintance of theirs owns the establishment as well as the Cafe Milano, which is a very popular restaurant in Georgetown. Right from the start, we were turned off. The young, female host was cold in personality and didn't welcome us or make us feel at home. Luckily the table they placed us in was cozy and felt intimate enough. The waiter we had, Adam B., was immediately very rushed, anxious and lacked in customer service in general. Ultimately, we would be the reason we will never return and at the same time, we will never encourage or recommend this place to any of the other friends of theirs. He would find offense and act irritably even to the smallest request as asking for more coffee, which by the way he promised 20 minutes prior to because they were making a fresh pot. Apparently, they needed to ship the coffee beans from the hills of Italy, because it took forever. We asked for an extra cup, and he asked again irritably why and looked confused. The point is, we needed one, and there was no need to ask us why. He barely came to our table so we had to keep calling him over. When we asked questions about the size of the pizzas, he annoyingly walked away and came back with an example size plate. Weird. Anyway, it was just a series of moments when we felt our waiter was continuously being inconvenienced when asked for the simplest of requests. The acting manager was not any better either. Because our server was avoiding us, we then asked her to split the check three ways, she interrupted us, and said she was sending our rude waiter over because she didn't understand what we were asking of her. She was the manager! Needless to say, the pizzas, calamari (grilled and fried) were superb. We loved the food. But do we dare come back? Absolutely not. Sorry, but the food wasn't nearly that wonderful for us to endure the poor, poor service this place seems to radiate. read more

(komi, sushi taro, hank's, montsouris). we need to demand more. sette -- you are not living up to your potential. first, your dining room is pitiful. one giant room with tables smashed up against each other like a cheap diner -- yuck. and the salty mediocre food -- ew. the ingredients are there -- please learn to balance flavors. how did you manage to mess up a simple pizza with tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil, and anchovies? why isn't the calamari crispy? alberto's has better pizza. I came here for Valentine's Day dinner with my boyfriend and it was really good! They had red and pink balloons all over the restaurant and service was great for such a busy night. We split a pitcher of sangria, I had the seafood pasta, and my boyfriend had spinach and ricotta roll ups with chicken. The pasta was very good. We got panacotta and tiramisu for dessert and they were both yummy! I def wanna come back to see what happy hour deals they have. 10/10 would recommend. read more
