I came for Sunday brunch and was not disappointed! My friend and I arrived early and were promptly seated. The waiter started us on unlimited mimosas and never let it get below half-glass the entire meal (and I drink a lot, and drink fast). There's a limit on 2-hours, but we went over the limit and the waiter never mentioned it. He just kept refilling until we were ready to leave. The food was great with lots of flavor. The staff is friendly and attentive. The restaurant was busy, but not crowded. It never felt like we weren't getting attention on our table. We had a friend arrive late and they worked quickly to get his order and bring it out so he wouldn't be too far behind the rest of us. I've eaten here a few times now and every time I'm there I make sure to get the calamari; it's cooked to absolute perfection! It is honestly some of the best calamari I've ever had. You can't go wrong with any of their pasta dishes for your main course. Whether it's the delicious salmon penne or the Italian sausage, it's all quite extraordinary. Service has always been top notch and their patio is a great spot for after work drinks and appetizers. This has been a reliable destination for years. Great location with street view at Dupont (but can be chilly in winter). Recommend off peak hours because it can be noisy. All food is delicious, especially lasagna, agnoletti, and steak and risotto is outstanding. Desserts are excellent, particularly apple tart. read more

I am a regular guest at Sette Osteria, I love the food at this restaurant because the portion a sized right not to much so you have for a nice dessert after your meal. The staff is very friendly and always tries to do there best there can. Reviews from people like Lorenzo G. are so stupid because this is not how this restaurant is. Since he knows how to cook at the age of 5, than maybe he know what it mines when a Kitchen closes at Midnight. Maybe Lorenzo should go to a Diner not to a Restaurant. A Diner will be open 24 hours and have the hole Menu available. I only can say I am a fan of this restaurant and will return always. There have great outdoor seating and a great brunch. read more

The good and the bad...well, the good is easy. The location is great, the food is delish (can't go wrong with the wonderful wood-fired bread and almost any pasta dish, even the drinks and desserts are worth taking a look), and the relaxed atmosphere means that a night at Sette can go a lot longer (and for a lot more calories) than you expected. the bad...well, the service is shoddy. At my limited experience, I went to the bar and tried to order what a friend had--the bartender said it was a limited menu now and they couldn't do it. Fine, so what about what she is having over there (this woman had just been served). Nada, says the bartender. Limited menu. Hm. problem number 1. Is it really that impossible to not serve someone something that was just out on a plate? Problem number 2--CHECK YOUR CHECK. They overcharged us, and after a good-natured but friendly haggle with the bartender, we got the right bill, but not much more than an "oops, we're sorry" to go with it. I tend to think that egregious bill mistakes deserve a bit more than a shurg and apology, usually in the form of some gratuitous offer, be it drink or dessert. No such overture, and a decent-sized bill mishap on their end. Worth a star deduction alone. So go, eat and be merry, just don't expect the service to be good, and triple check the bill before paying. read more

The service here is horrible! I was charged twice for my dinner. When I went back to talk to a manager, both the host and the manager were rude. The manager told me they would look into it but over a month later I still have not been given a refund or answer. The food is average and so are the prices. The service was unacceptable and food was mediocre. Upon entering the restaurant at 8:45 P.M. we were told we would be sat in 15 to 20 minutes. So we put our name on the list, the very rude hostess wrote our name down on a scrap piece of paper as "girl in the red shirt". After 45 minutes we checked to see how much longer and were told that they had no idea how much longer we would have to wait. While one hostess was very polite and sympathized with our wait the other who seemed to be the manager was very rude. Once we were finally sat the restaurant was near empty. At the table we ordered wine that was not delivered until we asked again. We were seated close to the bar and witnessed multiple bickering matches amongst employees, We order appetizers "suppli` and crochette" while the overall taste was good the mozzarella at the center of the suppli` was cold. Suppli` is supposed to be the ultimate comfort food and should be served very warm. The wait for the food was so long that one guest from our party had to get up to move the car as it was now 10:45 P.M we had still not received our food and the garage was about to close. The waiter finally checked on asked and asked if we had received our food. Instead of checking on our food he cleared 3 tables. Once our food finally arrived it was cold. The fettucine alla bolognese was good but definitely not worth the wait. Over all I would rate the service of this restaurant at 0 and the food a 5. The atmosphere is well thought out with Deruta Ceramics and tiles with italian sayings. The name of the restaurant is not cohesive as it means seven but the logo is that italian card is the 1 of clubs. The layout of the restaurant is too crowded and one can barely move to get to the restroom if anyone is standing at the bar. read more

Margarita Pizza was delicious and in my opinion world's better than another such Pizza Place down the street which I find over priced and over crowded My Sette rule is stick to the pizza and you will be in for a great dish... The shift manager was plain rude and the host inconsiderate, I went in 1.5 hours earlier than we wanted to eat, put my name on the list and sat at the bar waiting for the rest of the group. It was a group of 15 so I figured If I go early it will be ok (I also called in the afternoon to notify them to expect a group of 15 in the evening). They had 3 different tables where they could sit our group. We patiently waited until one of the tables became available and guess what! They sat another group. When I asked why they gave me some lame excuse about "oh, we thought you didn't like that table". Eventually we sat about 30-45 minuted after expected (so total wait for me 2+ hour). The food was mediocre, I have had better food in many restaurants around here. Our waiter was a nice guy and did his best. Overall nobody in our group felt welcome and they all noticed how rude the evening shift manager was. She is in the wrong job. I am pretty sure I won't go there again. read more

I am baffled at the low reviews this place has received. I lived in Bologna Italy for a good deal of time, and I have searched extensively for a respectable Tagliatelle al Ragu in the States. This is the only Italian place that even comes close to serving it the way they do in Bologna. This isn't the typical Bolognese you find here, with little pieces of ground beef floating in tomato sauce.. This is a meat sauce. My only criticism is that that they still use a little too much tomato sauce, but it was so good I didn't mind the extra. The tagliatelle was freshly made and perfectly cooked. I never had pasta as perfectly al dente in the US as this place. The pasta was truly delicious and I ate every last bite. I give it 5 stars because it actually felt like I was in Bologna when I was eating the pasta. All I can speak for is the Tagliatelle with Bolognese, but it was a 5 star pasta that is as authentic as you can find. I also found the bread they served both brilliant and delicious. The thickness of the bread is random and so some parts are really soft and some pieces are hard like a cracker. My girlfriend had an Italian roommate living with her for a year, and this is the place that her Italian friend recommended. It's not your typical Italian American red sauce based spaghetti and meatballs place most people seem to love so much. This is authentic Italian food. read more

After a hurricane of carb loading, I continued to weather the storm with more carbs. It was wonderful to have such a pleasant restaurant open on the Tuesday of Sandy. The host was very nice and there was no wait (surprise). Waitress was polite and knowledgable. The bread that was sent to the table after our drink order was amazing. It was similar to their pizza crust and a delicious combination of crunch, and that doughy, pillowy pizza crusts. However, that may be the best offering. THe pizza was great. Fresh, delicious mozzarella on the perfectly baked crust! The pizza is large enough to split for two and still feel full. It nears the top of the list for pizzas in DC. Especially for the low price when compared to the speciality pizza places of DC. I also had an appetizer (broccoli rate and sausage). The sausage was flavorful but the char from the grill ruined that and the broccoli was almost cold and tasted like water. I know I know its broccoli but still a girl can hope for delicious greens. I'd return the try the pasta and get pizza again. Looks like it is great for date night (couples of all ages filled the dining area) and yet still appropriate for families and small group dinners. My boyfriend and I went to Sette for brunch on Saturday with Capitol Deal vouchers. I was a little nervous cause not only were we late, but reviews didn't seem that great for the restaurant. I had read a lot of reviews complaining about the service and mimosas not being filled frequently enough, etc. When we arrived at Sette a half an hour late, they sat us immediately (it was busy but not crowded), and our waiter was over to our table very soon after. We both got the crab cake eggs benedict to make the most of our vouchers and this was a delicious choice. Our waiter was around to top off our mimosas at least every 5 minutes, not even waiting till our glasses were empty. Do not expect a warm reception here, enquiries about 'happy hour 'responded to with suggestive uncertainty, almost saying why dont you just sit at a table instead of the bar. However this place needs a warm reception, as tables are tightly squeezed together in a "numbers over comfort" arrangement with a fastfood like atmosphere. Nothing special on the menu, clearly masquerading as a restuarant above its class with higher prices than the food quality deserves, drinks are pricy, only consider going at happy hour, if for a drink. Butternut ravioli with sage butter, was satisfactory-entree in an appetizer portion size. Waitress was pushy with asking us to have a second round of drinks which we declined. This used to be my standby neighborhood Italian restaurant. The pizza was good and the other dishes were far more authentic than at pricier venues in DC. A recent visit, however, was very disappointing. The vitello tonnato appetizer was veal with a bit of mayo and capers (none of the fabulous tuna sauce that gives it its name, at least none that could be perceived) and the pizza crust was mushy. Came to this place for brunch. The place is a a pizza place, but doesn't really have a personality. We came here for brunch. They don't have bloodys on the menu, but all they do is pour bloody mary mix out if a bottle and add house vodka, which is pretty lame. All they have for bottomless brunch is mimosas and Bellinis. The waitress took a while to come back around, and considering they have a 2 hr time limit, empty drinks to me are just not acceptable. They also just had the gallon of generic crappy oj sitting on the bar, which is pretty disappointing as well. Food was decent. Had a burger with a poached egg gg, which was really just a over easy egg. I think the weirdest thing is that the place was pretty empty (probably because the comments above). But there was a good number of families with their kids in a he restaurant. This place may be cool for dinner, but wouldn't come back for brunch. read more

Sette Osteria is my favorite Italian restaurant in the DC area. I have been going to this restaurant the last few years and they are always consistent when it comes to quality of their food and service. In addition to offering a pretty wide range of wine choices, their entree options are fairly large as well. To start off, all of their appetizers are extremely good. I especially enjoy their calamari since it is always crispy and not salty like most places. As far as their main entrees go, you can't go wrong with their pastas. I have tried all of them, but my favorite has to be the seafood pasta with red sauce. The only negative side I can think of this place is its size. The restaurant isn't that large, so I try to go when they are not too busy, before 5:30 pm. read more

We just returned from our second dinner at Sette Osteria. We ate there last night, and since it was so good, we went back tonight. Both nights our food was delicious, and our service outstanding. Tonight my husband had whole grilled sea bass, very fresh, with a large assortment of sautéed vegetables. The meal was superb. He said it was the best bass he ever had! Mine was excellent, too--a different sea bass entrée that was very good. The first night we had pasta dishes that were also excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive both nights, and so was the service. The prices are quite reasonable, too. We will definitely eat there again next time we are in DC, and hope our friends will try it also. read more
