We just returned from our second dinner at Sette Osteria. We ate there last night, and since it was so good, we went back tonight. Both nights our food was delicious, and our service outstanding. Tonight my husband had whole grilled sea bass, very fresh, with a large assortment of sautéed vegetables. The meal was superb. He said it was the best bass he ever had! Mine was excellent, too--a different sea bass entrée that was very good. The first night we had pasta dishes that were also excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive both nights, and so was the service. The prices are quite reasonable, too. We will definitely eat there again next time we are in DC, and hope our friends will try it also. read more

Ate here yesterday for lunch. The service was quick and friendly! There was a great variety of options on the menu but I finally decided on a vegetable calzone. It was a large portion and came with a delicious tomato sauce on the side! I was especially hungry so I finished the whole thing, but there easily could be enough for leftovers! Out of towner getting chilled after walking around Dupont Circle area, stopped in to Sette Osteria for an early lunch. Could not have been better! They warmed me up by the oven, I had a (strong) red sangria and the crab cake sandwich...excellent! And their flatbread (?focaccia? was warm and the best I've had. I'll be back! read more

My girlfriend and I attempted to have brunch today. I have heard good things about the food. Unfortunately we were seated and then waited at least 15 minutes( I pulled out my phone after about 5). The waiter initially came when we were first seated and then he disappeared. He didn't ask for a drink order either. 15 minutes is a long time to wait. No one came by at all. We were on the patio. We gave them 5 minutes more. We had originally decided between going to brunch at Circa or Sette. We opted to leave and dine at Circa. On our way out I mentioned to the hostess that we waited for 15 minutes. She looked through me without uttering a response. Icing on the cake. On the up side we had a wonderful experience at Circa. This has been a reliable destination for years. Great location with street view at Dupont (but can be chilly in winter). Recommend off peak hours because it can be noisy. All food is delicious, especially lasagna, agnoletti, and steak and risotto is outstanding. Desserts are excellent, particularly apple tart. read more

Leaving this review because my experience was just perfect. I came here on a Sunday brunch when my mother was visiting from out of town. She can be a little picky and rude when out to eat so I was slightly concerned about whether or not she would enjoy herself. Our server, I can't remember her name unfortunately, was so accommodating that I was blown away. She was pleasant, timely and her recommendations were on point. My cappelini was light and delicious just as I had wanted! Also try the Albarino-- it's their best white by the glass! Food and atmosphere was great. Stumbled across this gem on Christmas Day and so glad they happened to be open! The service and food was amazing so I will most definitely go back. I would like to try everything on the menu. Food was excellent. It has a full Italian menu but they are known for their pizzas. I got one of the pizzas, the Quattro Stagioni and it did not disappoint. Along with a salad, the Insalada Mista. Bottomless mimosa brunch is not rare in the nation's capitol, but $15 bottomless (unwatered down) mimosas are hard to come by. The staff is friendly and the ambiance is perfect for a midday meal. We enjoyed out dinner in this informal and well restaurant. Service was good and timely. We shared mussels in herbed white wine sauce which was very good although a little too salty. A great spot for dinner, whether it be a large group celebration or a casual friends/family outing. Very accommodating to gluten-free dining, GF pasta is best I've had in DC and always available unlike some other Italian spots in DuPont or Georgetown. So after a nine hour drive and moving furniture all day 4 foodies agree to try a little place called Sette Osteria. Upon our entrance we noticed how clean and charming the spot looked. We were quickly shown to our seats with a smile and the service ended there. (As I write this I will divulge that it was just after midnight when we entered and the kitchen closed at midnight but the pizza was served till one). So we quickly move to ordering wine...which came to us after a quick 15 minute wait (even though there were only 2 other tables & a front staff of 4). Then when we asked for a simple serving of pasta to accompany the pizza and calzone we ordered we were quickly shot down. Even when I expressed that one of us is pregnant and 2 of us traveled all day. We were told that it takes too long to heat up the water...I guess she didn't know I started cooking at the age of 5 and knew full well how long it takes to boil water for a serving of pasta! So how about one of the great Buffalo Mozzarella Salads on their list...you may have guessed the answer...no. Why, we will never know. So let's not focus on what was lacking (which 100% included the service...did I mention they only brought 3 plates for 4 people). I have to admit that the crust for the pizza was very good: crisp, thin and the right amount of salt. Also the Ricotta for the Calzone was very good. That's it for the good...there was no bad...we'll move onto the ugly. The Vegetarian Pizza was amongst one of the biggest culinary disappointments I've had to date. It was a wet pile of over cooked, flavorless, stewed vegetables. I have to admit that the pizza didn't upset me as much as the fact that the waiter never asked how anything was and failed to notice or comment on the pile of wet vegetables which were scrapped off the pizza laying lifeless on the plate with the sad look of rejection. My hopes after reading the positive reviews of this restaurant from others is that I had a rare experience which may have been caused by the lack of any management being in the restaurant. Maybe it is my NY state of mind which expects more out of a place that you choose to spend your money in during this economy. Maybe it is because I know how little one has to do to give a decent amount of service. Either way this is not a local I will be giving another shot to. read more

The food here is good, but the service was poor and the portions weren't worth it for the price. The sangria was delicious but when I asked the waiter what the more popular option was between white and red, he treated me poorly and was pretty rude. At the end our checks were messed up and the waiter rolled his eyes when we asked him to check it. Overall the food and ambiance made up for the service, but it still harmed the overall experience. read more

Seems like most people had a negative experience...I was really hungry and ate my meal quickly, therefore I do not think I was there for long enough to have any poor experiences. I had the calamari to begin with; it was good, not great. For lunch I had some pizza with eggplant, onions, peppers and smoked mozzarella. The pizza was very good. Thinner crust; I enjoyed it. The service was fine; he brought the food, filled up water, that was about the extent. Overall, good pizza, they have outside seating. I noticed a limited wine list though...that never turns out well in my book. I'd go for lunch again; probably not dinner. read more

ok, glad to see that i'm not crazy thinking sette is crap. a friend that lived in rome and LOVES italian raved about this place, so we went for a late dinner. she ordered pizza and seemed very happy. i ordered the pasta with clams. there were more clamshells than anything else and the butter sauce (oh, i see on their menu it was supposed to be olive oil. as if.) tasted weird and did not sit well. our service wasn't as horrible as what others have experienced, but i couldn't get my water glass refilled for love or money. it's a definite pass - another mediocre DC restaurant that manages to stay in business because of location. read more

I've been dining in DC's restaurants for over five years now and this restaurant experience was one of the most disappointing. I emailed the manager, Mehdi, in February to inquire about the restaurant's corkage policy and he replied (5 days later) that there's NO corkage fee on the first two bottles of wine. This comported with the restaurant's policy on OpenTable. So my friend and I dined here this past Friday evening and I brought a large bottle of wine to celebrate the end of a stressful week for the both of us. The waiter told my friend and I that there was in fact a $15 corkage fee. Okay fine, we accepted this despite what Mehdi and OpenTable told me. I pulled out the bottle of zinfandel and the waiter (after speaking with Mehdi) came back and told us that the corkage fee was actually $30 because the wine bottle was 1/3 larger than a normal size wine. This didn't make any sense and clearly a ploy to gouge us for more money. Opening a larger wine bottle doesn't require any more effort or time than a regular size wine - heck I would've been fine opening and pouring our bottle myself! What exactly was Mehdi thinking when he told the waiter to charge us $30 for a corkage fee instead of $15?! The experience was very humiliating and Mehdi's remark when we left "I'm going to help you drink your wine next time" was inappropriate. Unfortunately Sette Osteria, you lost a customer who would've brought more business in the future. read more

My wife and I had an excellent dining experience at Sette Osteria. Our server, Melissa C., was extremely pleasant, attentive and helpful. I had the Penne Arrabbiata and my wife had Fettucine Bolognese, both of which were excellently cooked and flavorful. The patio was pleasantly shaded and provided a much needed break from the sun. My only complaint involves the seemingly never-ending honking of car horns emanating from the adjacent streets but that is completely out of the control of the restaurant. I highly recommend this place but just be ready for good food and constant honking. read more

Yikes! The pizza was hands-down the worst pizza I've had in a very long time; I could honestly say that I myself could make better pizza than this. The ingredients (vegetables) were a cacophony; the flavors all clashed, and none of the vegetables were properly seasoned to bring out the flavors. I tried my dining companion's pizza (with meat), and it was equally horrible. This was one of the few restaurant experiences where I just couldn't get myself to finish the dish I was served; it was THAT bad. I would've been embarrassed to serve something like that to guests in my own home. read more

I made a Valentine's Day reservation here for me and my girlfriend. The place was absolutely packed. When the food came out it was easy to understand why. It was fantastic. Very flavorful and perfectly cooked. I had the lamb shank over risotto and my girlfriend had chicken breast with vegetables. Both were terrific, as was the shrimp and scallop scampi appetizer. The place was very cute too. The entire ceiling was covered with red, white and pink balloons for Valentine's Day. The staff was great - despite being short-handed because of the flu. They were pleasant and cheery. We were 15 minutes late for our reservation, but they found us a table and saw to our every need. Free valet parking next door too - a big plus. I took a guest to Sette Osteria for brunch. Part of the appeal is the corned beef has that is advertised in the menu outside the restaurant. They don't have that anymore I was told...Instead I ordered the lox (smoked salmon) "Platter" This consisted of the worst bagel I think I have ever had, with barely enough cream cheese or salmon for half much less a whole bagel. The service was passable - until we asked for the check when the passing wait person said they weren't responsible for our table and didn't know who was.
