Yikes! The pizza was hands-down the worst pizza I've had in a very long time; I could honestly say that I myself could make better pizza than this. The ingredients (vegetables) were a cacophony; the flavors all clashed, and none of the vegetables were properly seasoned to bring out the flavors. I tried my dining companion's pizza (with meat), and it was equally horrible. This was one of the few restaurant experiences where I just couldn't get myself to finish the dish I was served; it was THAT bad. I was pleasantly surprised by this place! I typically would not go somewhere so super-packed, but my mom and I decided to pop in last night after seeing the Bonnard to Vuillard exhibit at the Phillips Collection (which is open until 830 on Thursdays!) Outside area was totally packed so we took a comfortable table inside. The service was notably friendly and the food came out super-fast. We shared two apps - the mussels/clams and the octopus salad - and enjoyed them both. The mussels/clams were very delicious. They were perfectly cooked, plump (da mussels), and clean (nothing worse than a gritty/hairy mussel - vomz!) The sauce for the clams/mussels was nice and garlicky and could've used some crusty fresh bread for soaking (the bread served before the food was okay but not great mussel sauce dipping bread). The octopus salad had a nice setup and a very generous amount of octopus. I liked that it wasn't fried and wasn't heavily dressed. The combination of flavors was really well-paired - capers, arugula, a lemony dressing, potato...it worked. My mom found it a bit salty, but it was just fine for me. Washed everything down with hoegaarden (only beer they have on draft is peroni) but they have a bunch available in bottles and plenty of wines, too. Also saw on the menu that they offer (I believe) two eves a week where wine is half-price, and a brunch with bottomless mimosas. I would return. Outside seating is great for people-watching, if you don't mind the crowd. read more

I sat outside for a late lunch (4 pm) so I didn't really get a feel for the ambiance inside the restaurant. I'm reviewing strictly the food. Absolutely loved it. Granted, I got something pretty basic in the world of Italian food (pizza) but it was spot on. The wood burning oven baked pizza was perfection. The best I've had outside of Europe. I had the 4 topping pizza with mushrooms, artichokes, ham and sausage. The crust was not too crisp and perfectly chewy while the cheese and toppings were fresh and top quality. I noticed that when you get food with a lot of preservatives in it they are salty. This pizza was not salty at all. It was a perfect balance. My friend had a simple pasta dish of just big round hollow pasta cooked al dente with butter and pepper. Simple but elegant tasting. The pasta was tasty by itself and when cooked perfect it didn't need much of a sauce. I was impressed by the simplicity and deliciousness at the same time. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is the 3 mini calzone appetizer i ordered. It's fried and not baked. Anything fried tastes good even a horse's behind so I couldn't say if it was a great calzone or not. read more

After moving downtown from the suburbs, I love living in the city, walking to restaurants, shops, museums, parks...etc. One thing I miss about my old town is the small town feel, people greeting you and stopping to chat. Wallace, a bartender at Sette, helps fill that gap. He remembers people's names, always has a friendly greeting, and takes excellent care of his customers. Outdoor dining is very pleasant because it faces on the cross street rather than Connecticut Ave. Staff is well-trained, polite and accommodating. I am surprised by the negative reviews. The food was good - however, this is not the place to come if you want a nice relaxed Italian dinner. Everything was rush rush rush. We told our server we did not want everything out at once. Very glad we slowed it down as we watched the other tables not be done with their salad before the main dish was brought out. We tried to order wine, but they no longer carry the wine we wanted that was on the menu. I wanted a dish with clams only to be told they had no clams. Frustrating. I purchased a brunch deal from Capital Deals for Sette Osteria and I was quite satisfied. I ordered the Sette Brunch Tart and French Toast and I was in brunch heaven. I have never had something as unique as the Sette Brunch Tart. It was a Phyllo tart with avocado, bacon, tomato, scallions, and mozzarella with two sunny-side up eggs. I highly recommend trying this dish when you visit Sette Osteria. The French Toast was cooked perfectly! It was custardy and sweet with the perfect amount of crunch to chewy ratio. I LOVED it! I ended up ordering two entrees because the price to add bacon and eggs to the French Toast entree was $3.95 a piece. I thought that was quite unreasonable seeing as though the French Toast was already $8.95 and most places offer eggs and bacon with French Toast. All in all it was a great time and the food and service was good. I would recommend it for brunch with the ladies. read more

We are new to DC and had high expectations, but this was the worst dining experience I think I have ever had, especially during restaurant week. We were seated at 12:30 and didn't order until 2:00, even though the waitress stopped by and asked if we were ready to order and we said yes. Almost everyone in our group ordered bottomless mimosas/bellinis, and their glasses were empty most of the time. When we finally got our food, 2 people in the group had wrong orders and everyone else's food didn't look appetizing at all. I ordered the frittata and homefries were piled on top of it like they were trying to hide it. I'm sure I could have made something better myself if I had just stayed at home. The waitress never stopped by our table to check on our food. My boyfriend was able to send back his food for the right order. When it came again the second time, it had the incorrect side. A third time, he asked for the correct side, which then showed up on our bill when we finally received the check. They removed the charge for us, but I definitely regret coming here and I don't think anyone in our group will go back there again. read more

I absolutely love this place. Another friend brought me for lunch one day during work. I had the calamari salad and the waiter recommended a Chardonnay by J.Lohr. I fell in love with both items. The calamari is grilled - something you cannot get in a lot of places. And it is grilled (or seered but who cares) to perfect. It has just the right amount of singe. But i digress, did I say how much I love this place? You can't beat Happy Hour. First of all the bartender is a super friendly guy and knows his wine. Second, the prices are fantastic - $5 pizzas, flatbreads and other yummy items. When I went in earlier this month with friends I was doing a cleanse for the month of January (technically still am). Anyway the bartender went to work with me on what I could eat and had a fantastic meal without gluten, dairy or added sugar. Hard to do with an Italian place but true. And by the way, when you want to indulge? There is a to die for dessert that includes pizza crust with warm Nutella poured over the top. Yes, that is what I said. WARM NUTELLA OVER PIZZA CRUST. I went here because I wanted an Italian restaurant nearby around 10 pm. My pasta dish was okay, but my boyfriends was pretty bad. It came out way too soon and it was supposed to be a seafood dish, but there was one tiny shrimp and a couple clams. I have been told since that the pizza is great, everything else sucks. Notorious poor service but amazing pizza lead me to purchase the Capitol Deal offer for brunch...only to find out they CHANGED the terms of the deal to prohibit all of Easter weekend. Fabulous outside seating, Buschetta appetizer is solid, otherwise very pedestrian food. Touristy. Beers are overpriced.

I went back there after maybe a year and was truly disappointed. The salad lacked dressing and the pizza was inedible. We got the one with the broccoli rabe and the only thing it had were broccoli stem pieces and cheese. Very bad. The service was also worst than I remembered. I really think the only thing good about this place is the terrace, and unfortunately, I was there in January, so I couldn't even enjoy that, I don't think I will go there again or recommend it to anyone I like. read more

My first delivery order from these folks was so good (I Iove eggplant parmesan) that I ordered it again just a week later. The portions were much smaller, the driver was a hustler (he said there was no tip, although I know I included one, and pretty uch refused to give me my food until I offered a second tip)/ The driver thing is not such a big thing as the much smaller portion was. started going to sette on my first date with my now fiance. eating on the patio used to be lovely and the food used to be delicious. two years later: (this past saturday), my fiance and i brought a group of friends there for a birthday dinner. we sat for 2 hours before our food arrived. the portions have decreased (a $9 bruschette miste is 3 pieces of bread); a $12 calamari fritte is about 12 pieces.) the authenticity of italian cooking that once was is no longer (gnocchi specifically could have been frozen and heated up; the sauce could have been from a jar.) our waitress asked if she should bring the manager over because we all kept staring at the kitchen, as if we should inform her if that is good business practice. she didn't send anyone over. the birthday boy got fed up and asked for the manager again; she neither apologized nor seemed concerned. she said they were busy and there was nothing she could do. sad and disappointing. spend your money on better italian--go to il mulino if you can afford it; a trattoria in NYC if you want a real treat. read more

Wonderful to discover another place we can dine out with a family member who has celiac disease: the menu features many GF options, and the kitchen staff takes great care to prevent cross-contamination. I took my friend here for Restaurant week and i was not disappointed. A top class place with a great wait staff. Although, we had no reservations, we were seated promptly at a nice table. The waitress took quick drink orders and we ordered a nice bottle of Rose. The food menu is great. We bypassed the Restaurant week menu and ordered from the main menu. The calamari and mussels were perfectly done. Calamari was juicy and tender. The main course, we ordered Sea Bass and Milanese Chicken. The Milanese was not too oily and I liked the texture of the breading. It was well cooked. We had a wonderful time and I will definitely come back here again. read more

Wish I had looked at Yelp before going there -- it's clear from many posts that the pizza is the best choice, and everything else just so-so. We dined there last night and were drawn in by their nice outside area for dining (a lot quieter than inside which was full of large parties). My friend's salmon dinner was fairly good, but my fettuccine alfredo was mediocre. Pasta was al dente', but the sauce was nearly flavorless. If we go back (maybe lunchtime?) I'll try the pizza. Avoid! I dined here this evening. While the food and service were fine, actions by the bussers were appalling! Two bussers were moving a table that was already set. A fork fell to the floor. The busgirl picked up the fork and put it back on the table. Right in front of us! Moments later a busboy started clearing the silverware from all the tables and added the fork that had been on the floor into a silverware organizer filled with clean silverware. Horrified, I asked to speak to the manager and explained what happened. Although the manager conveyed her apologies and thanked us for for letting her know, there was no immediate attempt to rectify the situation and as of the time that we left the restaurant the dirty fork remained commingled with the "clean" forks that would all likely get set on future tables. If this lack of cleanliness happens right in front of patrons, I shudder to think about what happens behind the scenes. read more

We were very hungry after a day of sightseeing in D.C. and needed to "carb up" for a second day of adventure. We were looking for a pretty good pasta and pizza place when we came across Sette Osteria. Whoa!! We were totally impressed with the service and quality of food. My wife ordered the Penne Alla Russa, I ordered the Fettuccine Alla Bolognese, and my son ordered a pepperoni pizza. The sauce on the Penne was incredibly flavorful and not too heavy. The asparagus beautifully complimented the salmon that was part of the dish. My dish was rich and robust with a good amount of meat, but not too heavy. My son's pizza was probably one of the best pizzas I have had in a long time. The pizza was baked in a wood fired oven which gave the crust a nice smoky flavor. The mozzarella was creamy and can't ever go wrong with pepperoni. I would definitely recommend this this place to everyone!! read more

Great place for kids as well. Our daughter loves this place and always it's her first and preferable choice to eat when we are going out- is Sette Osteria! Tried yesterday their dish from the Specials Menu (which was a lot to choose from): tried Red Snapper Fish. What a great dish! The fish was soft and yummy! the vegetables (potato, carrots) finely chopped and done well and blended well with sauce. Total- interesting presentation of the dish plate with tomato and fresh basil sauce around the fish. The vine choice is great. They offer great Italian vine and beer along with local US vines and vines from other countries! Have a bottomless choices on weekends. The dessert menu is great, I personally love Crème Brulle and Panna Cotta, but there are many other choices as well. The place is very clean, staff is very professional and nice. The owner, Mehdi, is very professional and nice person, who always makes sure you enjoy your meal and your stay and that everything is working well and customers are satisfied! I walked past this place 1000 times. Ended up stopping in recently, and was really surprised at how good the pizza was. I got the one with arugula and prosciutto. It blew circa, ella's and most other dc wood-oven pizza places (not 2 Amys though) out of the water. Not sure why this place is much emptier than circa, perhaps the location, but it is so much better food-wise. Also, the fact that it wasn't really crowded like Dupont places tend to be, made it that much better. read more

went here for lunch on sunday. The dining room was half empty yet it took the hostess 5 mins to find us a table for 2, a quick look around the room would have saved her some time. It took another 10 min for the waitress to come over and ask if we wanted anything to drink and another 15 min for her to come back to take our order despite them not even being at half capacity. Our glasses stayed empty for most of the meal with the waitress only coming by to take our order and drop off the check. This being my first time here I def will not be coming back.The food was just ok the pizza was good but the service was hands down the worst i've had since being in dc. That one star was only for the pizza. read more
