We've been coming to Severn inn for years now. The food and waterfront view never disappoint. The service however is inconsistent. When we have gone for brunch it's great. A couple of private celebrations service has been between good and mediocre. Hence why the 4 stars. Definitely a 5 location/ambiance. 4 star for food. 2-3 star service. Plenty parking in the back if you don't find any right up front.

Such a beautiful location. The service, while very kind, could have returned more often. The lobster pasta provides a very generous portion of lobster, but the sauce is so thick and cheesy that it's too rich to enjoy the whole plate without feeling kind if gross after. The scallops were great! The crab came would have been top tier, if it weren't for the maybe 10 pieces of shell in it. Disappointing. Burgers also were not successful although we couldn't pinpoint the odd flavor it had. I recommend drinks and appetizers here. My malbec was delicious and I adored the brisket nachos as well as their 2 oysters they had in.

Brussel sprouts with Parmesan cheese and some sort of honey glaze.

I dined at this restaurant for the first time. My meal which was broiled crab cake with a seafood medley was good. I also enjoyed the Brussel sprouts which was my starter but did not care for the classic margarita, tastes watered down. Sitting outside listening to the water hit up against the rocks was relaxing. Though the servers were nice, there appeared to be a bit of confusion with who got what meal and the plates coming out one or two at a time. It could have been new servers but that will not deter me from eating here again.

The decor was very good and impressive. Management and crew were very helpful, informative and knowledgeable

We settled into our table and were welcomed by Shannon, our server. (There was a little confusion about this, but it straightened out.) The restaurant is bright and separated from the well-stocked bar. I had a Sagamore rye neat, and B ordered a glass of the Rioja. If there are oysters on the menu, you know I'll order them. There was a pretty good selection, and I opted for a half dozen Rappahanock oysters. They were excellent, sweet and briny. We each ordered a Caesar salad, but Shannon advised us that it was large enough to be shareable. More than enough. B ordered the pasta with clams, and I choose the Seafood chowder. The chowder was delicious, but B found the pasta to be too peppery for her tastes. Worse, three of the clams were unopened. We brought this to Shannon's attention, and she offered to put in a new order, but B demured, as she was full. At this point, Owner John Hogan came over to the table to chat. He told us the clams would be taken off the bill, and gave us a gift card, hoping we'd return. He stayed at our table for nearly 30 minutes, and we had a wonderfully engaging conversation with him. We will definitely be going back.

They are definitely lighter on the sauce, so if that's your preference these are perfect. Personally, I like my wings a little saucier, so I would probably ask for extra sauce next time. The chicken itself was fried perfectly and the portion size was pretty solid. For my main, I got the buffalo chicken wrap with no buffalo sauce and it was amazing. The lettuce, guac, and pico all tasted fresh and paired really nicely with the breaded chicken in the wrap. My only complaint with it is they go pretty light on the guac and pico, so I wish there was a bit more of both. The pricing overall was fair too and didn't feel over the top for the quality and portions. The fries that came with the wrap deserve their own mention because they were phenomenal. Crispy golden brown on the outside with a soft, fluffy inside. Honestly, I'd come back just for the fries alone. I requested outdoor seating when making the reservation and they have a really nice outdoor section with a great atmosphere and view. They did a good job with the space they had, but the tables are pretty close together, so you can hear basically every conversation around you. The chairs were also a bit smaller and not the most comfortable for longer seating. Service was great all around. Our server was very polite and even helped my very undecided sister choose her meal. Everyone was friendly and it definitely feels like a nice place to bring friends or family. My only real complaint, and honestly this applies to a lot of places nearby, is the parking. However, the chicken was breast meat and sliced thin, which made it come across as dry. I did tell the server I liked it and didn't go into much detail since she seemed very busy and I didn't want to add stress in the moment. Still, it's not something I would personally order again. The waffle situation was more frustrating. I initially received cornmeal waffles, but I had told my server ahead of time that I strongly avoid cornmeal. She said she would substitute them, so I was surprised when the plate came out with the original cornmeal waffles. I didn't realize at first and ended up taking a bite before noticing. I let the server know and she had the kitchen remake it. The replacement Belgian waffles were overcooked and dense, so they didn't really improve the experience. The butter though was genuinely delicious, just very rich and more of a holiday-style flavor than something I'd personally crave in warmer weather. I also had a basic cup of coffee made with Rise Up Coffee Roasters, which was $4.50. That felt overpriced for what it was. I could have walked right across the street and had a specialty coffee from the source for very little extra cost, which honestly would have been the better choice. Overall, the experience had some clear issues, especially with the waffle mix-up and consistency, but it wasn't completely disappointing. I just don't think I would personally order the same meal again.
