I have old machines. One is a Pfaff 130 in a cabinet and is extraordinarily heavy in and of itself and it is installed in a cabinet making it heavier. This positive review is long overdue. I own two Miele canister vacuum cleaners and one Sebo upright (plus a Dyson and a Bissell...) because I have pets and love having a clean home. I was no longer able to press a button and watch the cord automatically retract on one of the Miele canisters (which is very satisfying after vacuuming). I can usually fix things myself by watching YouTube videos and because I enjoy taking things apart, but in this case it needed a replacement cord. I brought the vacuum to Sew & Vacuum World for repair. Steve was great. He has a wonderful sense of humor and is an expert at what he does. Steve has owned this place for so long and has always managed to help me with my vacuums and my sewing machines. I have a Bissell carpet cleaner that was not sucking up the water so he took it apart looked at it and told me the possible things that I was doing wrong so he disconnected a couple things reconnected it to make sure that it totally snapped in place and then demonstrated at his shop he'll get the section was on the machine. This business is at 8th and SImms, Lakewood/Golden. I took a Dyson in because it kept shutting off. The owner put his hand on the long, hard wand and said it was "Clogged". He put a wand down it and 2 small pieces of Xmas tree fell out. About 1" each. This took him all of 3 seconds. I am NOT kidding. Charge $20. He also said I needed a new filter, that mine was beyond saving even though they are washable. So I bought one $29. I had no idea with they cost. I am all for small business, but when I found he was charging 5x more than what I paid somewhere else for the filter, I decided I needed to return his. Well, that alone set him off BIG time. Spouted all kinds of negative things at me, refunded my money and told me never to come back. I had been in there twice before and he was fine, but if you have a concern and question it, he won't even let you talk. He is a class A jerk. Bad temper! read more

I have alway gone to this business and have referred many people. I waited for service for about 15 minutes due to a customer before me. I noticed Steve, the owner coughing and his dog coughing too (I played with the dog during my wait). I was double masked due to health issues. When I approached the counter I asked Steve if he wouldn't mind wearing a mask during our transaction. His demeanor immediately changed, and he became very angry and insisted he would NOT wear a mask and that if I wanted to be "paranoid" about it, that I could just leave. He threw down his service ticket book and started cussing foul expletives while going to the back room, I was shocked! I thought about how long I waited and he came back to the counter angry and coughing badly. I decided to leave since I was very disappointed with Steve and how he treated me. I will NEVER go there again and will NEVER refer anyone ever again. read more

My old Hoover died yesterday mid-cleaning. Brought it in and Steve (?) had it figured out in minutes that the motor overheated due to my never having cleaned the filter. Went into their shop to get a hose for my Dyson Vacuum. The part was $40--seemed like a fair price. They put it on for me even though I didn't ask them to do that. It took literally 30 seconds. Steve then convinced me that I needed a $25 filter and charged $20 for "labor". I got home and realized that the filter was in fine condition after washing it, which is recommended by Dyson. I paid $89 when I really only needed a $40 part. When I sent an email to him about this the response was "Sorry I don't work for free! Do you?" I don't normally post negative reviews, but I also don't take kindly to that sort of retort when I am trying to express a concern in a reasonable way, so I decided to post this review. read more

Wow - if more places like this existed the whole fix the stuff you have rather than throwing it away and buying new stuff would be a whole lot easier! My Dyson vacuum had been making a horrible noise and I was planning to buy a new one - dealing with getting it fixed just sounded like it would be a hassle. That was, until I read the other Yelp reviews for Sew & Vac World. With reviews that great I figured it was worth a try. I stopped in today after work and within minutes the gentleman working at the shop had diagnosed the problem. However, it gets even better . . . he let me know that since my vacuum was less than 5 years old Dyson it was still under warranty and Dyson would pay for the repair! So not only do I not have to buy a new vacuum but I will have my old one working again for free! So a quick call to Dyson tonight to get it registered and I will be back tomorrow with my receipt (to show I purchased less than 5 years ago) and I will have a repaired vacuum at no cost (and very little hassel)! Major win in my book! This world could use more great places like Sew & Vac World . . . now I just need more people to break their vacuums so I can recommend this place! Update: Took my receipt in today - less than 30 minutes and $0 later I walked out the door with a repaired vacuum. And he even did a bit of maintenance cleaning to keep it running well! read more

Rude staff, and repair took almost 2 months! I had a 1-year-old Hoover carpet cleaner that had a major malfunction (the handle and its housing were cracked). Rather than waste my time lining up a warranty repair, I ordered the replacement part myself for ~$25. When I went to install it, however, I saw that all of the holders for the screws were also broken and I was unable to fix it. September 28 - I setup the warranty repair with Hoover. Sew & Vac World was the location closest to me. When I arrived at the shop, I first got a huge lecture about taking it apart myself. I have to wonder if a guy would have gotten the same lecture. It isn't rocket science - it is just screws, and I am fully capable of turning screws. He eventually decided that he would try to do the warranty repair even thought I has (*gasp*) taken it apart on my own. I left it there, and I waited - he thought it would be ready in a week. After waiting for over a week, I called the shop. He still had it sitting in a corner and had done nothing with it because he forgot about it (his words). I once again waited over a week without hearing anything from them, and I called the shop again. They had not received any parts, and if I wanted to know what was going on, I should call Hoover. What I expected to hear was, "I'll follow up on that". No, I could do it myself. November 6 (over 5 weeks later)- I have not heard anything else from the shop, and I finally do call Hoover myself. Hoover followed up on the situation for me, and they promised that parts would be at the store within 7-10 days. They said that if I didn't hear back from the store by 11/15 to call them back directly. November 18 - I call the shop. They claim to not have the parts. November 19 - I call Hoover again. Hoover once again followed up with the shop. November 20 - I get my first call from the shop telling me that the parts just showed up and that it is ready for pickup. November 23 - I send my man to pick up the cleaner as I don't want to deal with this guy any more. And the guy has the nerve to say "you tell her that next time she better not take it apart or I won't warranty it". Don't worry, after this experience I won't be requiring your services ever again. read more

I got my vacuum mechanics 101 while he fixed my dyson animal. I have two long haired dogs which pretty much killed my vacuum. I thought it was done for. But he took it apart in seconds, diagnosed the problem and fixed it within 15 minutes. The price was fair and he joked as he worked. I will continue to see this guy. Now I am sneezing less in my house. And he sells those "lifetime" hepa filters which aren't really lifetime for a good price. Don't toss your pricey vacuum take it to him and he'll make it new again. He also sells refurbished and some new vacuums, vacuum bags, carpet rakes, attachments and hoses. And there is a friendly chihuahua at the door. read more

This is a great LOCAL business! Very customer-service oriented. Very FAIR and super knowledgeable. I would highly recommend going there, even worth driving to! I just bought a new Miele vacuum which I researched, and debated and stressed over spending the money! BUT, I know a good vacuum is worth the money. Steve is the one who sold me mine, and I tried out TONS of them, including ones closer to $1,000 - not exactly in my budget! I bought the Miele Salsa upright, but considered several other models and at no point did I feel "pressured" to buy more than I wanted to spend. I felt I was given a great "tour" of what is available, given lots of options, things to consider, and I opted for the upright because I have DISGUSTING berber carpet that I cannot afford to replace right now. Steve encouraged me to consider a canister because I also have a lot of hardwood floors, stairs and rugs. I opted for the one he showed me that is an upright because it ROCKS at cleaning carpet! Steve gave me a VERY good deal, taking in a trade of an wreck XL, and I know that returning there will lead to great customer service and helpful information I would not have found, even reading 50 Amazon reviews. I have bought several belts, bags, etc. for other vacuums there over the last 10 years because it is close to my home - luckily! But, I would recommend going there, even if you live a bit farther away. I feel I have always been given a good value. And, as much as I hate it at times, I spend a lot of time going to "take care of vacuum issues" because I have an entire entourage of pets and they cause our house to get dirty constantly and it causes a lot of wear on cleaning appliances. I watched Steve, throughout my multiple trips there, with his "quirky" but friendly personality work with different customers and he expends that great service to ALL. Please tell me this place is no longer in business. I took my beautifully running vintage Eureka here for a new belt and to replace the wheels. The owner suggested a cleaning so I agreed. When I picked it up he said he was embarrassed because he'd put the machine back together wrong and had to redo it and that's why it smelled weird. He said the smell would go away after I used it a couple of times. You guessed it, the smell didn't go away. And my vacuum hasn't been the same since. He basically ruined it. Go somewhere else. I took my four year old vacuum to this local business today and Steve, who I assume is the owner, was friendly and immediately took a look at my four year old Dirt Devil vacuum which has not been working nearly as well as it should for months now. We did a little haggling on services and price and we came to an agreement that he would finish unclogging it for me and install the belt. We were going to replace the filter, but he noticed that it wasn't used to it's full capacity and acknowledged that could wait, which I appreciated. Although I had unclogged part of the system, he proceeded to finish unclogging the part of the hose assembly that I missed, sold me a new belt and installed it at an incredibly affordable price within about fifteen minutes. He answered my questions about the vacuum as he worked. When all was said and done the price was under $10 and since I didn't have cash (they don't accept credit cards for purchases under $10), he literally insisted that I just come back the next time I'm in the area to pay him the total, since they were closing in a few minutes. Who does these things anymore? :) I will be back the next day they are open to pay for the purchase. I may very well return to his shop, perhaps to pickup my future filter, rather than ordering online. read more

I went in thinking I would be purchasing a certain vacuum more expensive vacuum, but after describing what I needed Steve made a recommendation that was cheaper and fitted my needs better. Steve is intense and passionate about vacuum cleaners, he knows what a certain vacuum can handle, and hates to see when they are abused. Bought expensive ($800+) Miele vac. 3 mo. ago.Bought from this store as they repaired old vacuum in past and Steve was very nice. Was told by Steve (owner) at time only known problem was power cord. If it occurred it was an easy repair and free of charge. Vacuum died after 13 weeks. Called him and he said probably power cord- bring it in, bring canister only. Checked on internet and they suggested same problem.Arrived and he 1st asked where rest of vac. attachments were. I said you only said to bring canister- I did bring canister and hose. He threw hands up in air and made face and said probably power cord problem. He plugged in and it worked. Said not broken, nothing he could do. He pulled cord in and out 2x and said nothing wrong. I explained I lived 45 miles away- each way and wouldn't have brought in if it was working for me. He said can't fix because wasn't broke. Very short with me. I would have been happy if he had offered to keep for a week or two to find which was now obvious intermittent problem. I put vac. in car and stepped back into store and said I bought this vacuum because you recommended it and you were sure a lot nicer before you got my money.There were no other customers there- I wasn't trying to embarrass him or make a scene. I left and got in my car. He came running out of the store, banged on my car window and yelled at me. I locked the door, made no eye contact. started car and left with him screaming at me. Scared me to death. Please find a different place to go for a repair or purchase if you need one. I never raised my voice, swore, etc.- just said I was unhappy it was broke. I don't want new vacuum or money, just wanted it fixed. By the way, I got home and it won't work again. $800 down the drain if I can't find a place to fix. I will be contacting the manufacturer today for suggestions. read more
