I brought them back and the lady lied to me saying they never use bleach and instead blamed me for the stains. She never offered to replace them or even give me a refund. Absolutely disappointed. The clothes have always come back mediocre- my clothes always smell neutral to the point where I am not sure if they just put it though a dry cycle with dryer sheets without actually washing it. While this is not necessarily a sticking point, what really put me over the edge were that my most recent pile of laundry came back with several of my clothes having a grease sort of stain on it. I would like to provide context in that I rarely sweat nor do I drop oily things on clothes as I take care with meticulous fashion to NOT stain my clothes so these were not stains originally on my clothes in the first place. When I tried to get it fixed, it was simply stated to me that they cannot fix grease stains. So I'm really confused- what can they actually wash if they cannot take out simple stains (which by the way they caused in the first place)????? I was also given the excuse that it was perhaps my fault as I maybe left chapstick in one of my pockets or maybe my makeup got on it ?? First of all I don't wear makeup and second how is this my fault? I tried to be nice and still in the end I did not argue anymore as I do not like yelling at others or arguing in front of their customers. Normally this would not be a big deal but on top of the mediocrity, this just blows my mind. Additionally, I am leaving on a trip in a few days and my schedule is now thrown off because I have to make a different trip to a different laundry place to fix this mess. Instead of offering to fix the clothes and just simply wash it again (of which by the way I only brought 4 pieces back to try to be nice about it, even though almost HALF of my laundry had small stains strewn throughout on it), I was given a powdered bag to fix the stains on my own. On top of that, one of items of clothing which had the BIGGER stain on it was sprayed on with 404 Multisurface cleaning solution (what simulation am i actually living in???) ! While I do appreciate that she tried to offer a solution, the solutions were nonetheless inefficient and may have stained it more. Why would you offer a bag of powder to soak the clothes and dry myself in when you, oh I don't know, /own a laundromat/?? I will not be back here. Even though I only gave this place a try because it conveniently is located across the street, I would literally rather drag my 30+ pounds of laundry of me and my partners clothes and drop it off 4 blocks away to my other laundry place who actually do a great job. An errand of laundry was now turned into a fiasco that I have to fix. read more

There is one woman who usually works behind the counter and stares me down each time I pick up or drop off clothes. As the grandson of two Seamstresses, I cannot give this place more than two stars in good conscience. So let me drop the scenario: I needed some new pants hemmed before I was to go on a trip. The place I initially went to said it would take 5 days though the price would have been around $6 per garment. I needed the alterations done much sooner so I stopped in to Sew Good and the woman said she would be able to turn all 3 pairs around by the end of the day. Then without asking if that was ok, she rung me up and charged me $38 for the 3 alterations. On my way home I passed 2 places that did alterations for around $6/piece with a 1 day turnaround, half the price of Sew Good! Then I thought, oh whatever, they are doing it with a quicker turnaround time and the price must mean that they will do a great job. Not true at all. I hate to put them on blast because they were nice but these were simple hems and they looked completely amateur. The color of the stitching on my jeans were different than the color that was used on my pockets. All three pairs had slightly crooked hems. The lengths were fine and to be honest no one is going to be scrutinizing the bottom of my pants so who really cares. But at roughly $13 a pair, they should have been hemmed perfectly. My Grandmothers would have scoffed if they were still alive to see this. read more

As another reviewer has noted, this place is pretty good for last-minute alterations. I brought a few pairs of suit pants here before a business trip and they turned it around perfectly. I'd go elsewhere for good quality dry cleaning. I brought a few trenches - some to get buttons reinforced and some for dry cleaning. I guess it was a mistake on my end to think that they would cover the buckles/buttons; I'd gotten this particular trench dry cleaned plenty of times before and the brown leather finished buckles came back with half of the finish missing. So if you decide to try out this place, be VERY specific when you drop your items off. Prices are reasonable. read more

I was flying out of town in 2 days and had bought a vintage dress that ALMOST fit perfectly! I went to sew good and was greeted by a young girl (who was very friendly) and explained I needed alterations in a hurry and she translated to the older women behind the machine. The women who did the alterations was soooo sweet (even though I don't speak chinese) She had the dress ready the next day by 12 and when I wanted one other thing done she did it in 2 hours time! I go to this place because it's conveniently a few doors down from me. the staff is a little standoffish at first but once they know you they are friendly and funny. Which makes sense since as soon as you walk in, it's obvious they get a lot of business. One day turnaround for wash and fold drop off service, same day service if you drop off before noon, and if you're a few days late picking they don't really mind. Prices are decent I think it comes out to 85 cents a pound. Been using them regularly for over 2 years and I have no complaints. read more

I've taken several vintage dresses to be altered here, and time and time again they do an excellent job. I just moved to the East Village and was looking for a good dry cleaner - Sew Good had pretty good reviews on Yelp so I decided to take my clothes there. Do not go here!!!! The first batch of suits I took came back fine so I took another batch last week that included a suit jacket and a dress. I pointed out some small black marks on the dress to them when I dropped it off (black purse rubbed on a white dress) and they said they would take care of it. Not only did they NOT get the stains out, but you could tell that the fabric had been rubbed vigorously and it now has very obvious rub markets and looks worse than when I brought it. The jacket I brought had a fabric waist belt and they lost it!! I am so frustrated and really disappointed. They basically made two pieces of my clothing unwearable. read more

Uhhhh can they be any better here? No. I have been going to the sew good ladies for years! They clean, mend and tailor every thing perfectly. I moved to Brooklyn last year and I STILL bring my stuff in to the city to sew good. How's that for a vouch? They've gotten ice cream out people! Chocolate ice cream! ( serves me right for wearing white in the summer) I just started yelping, mostly because of the horrendous personal reviews I've read about some of the hardest working people in NYC. Working with the public in a service oriented job is hard people! Frankly, the whole concept of getting laundry folded by someone other than my mom when I go home is still a revelation to me. I love these ladies! They do amazing alterations at a great price. I trek out here from Brooklyn to get my clothing altered because I trust them implicitly. The language barrier was scary at first, but I find that if I am patient when explaining what I want and listening to their feedback we are able to understand eachother. It's a hit and miss with these people: I got because it's conveniently close and I've had worse experiences but most certainly not because they are great. Pros: 1. they are nice if you are a regular. 2. they are conveniently fast 3. success rate is 50/50 - meaning half the time clothes are clean, sometimes they come back with interesting stains and sometimes I have stuff in the laundry that does not belong to me. .But half the time it's fine. Con's: 1. They are skimpy with detergent and clothes are never really clean. They sometimes even come back dirty and smelly - My solution: I give them my own detergent, which I prefer anyway. I have sensitive skin. - Problem: half the time even those I bring it they forget and then again the clothes are dirty and smelly again. I'm even willing to think this can happen from time to time but please just fix it. But they don't at best you will find the owners daughter threaten to punch you in the face (so far my favorite responds) and the son will just pretend my detergent is now all of the sudden unscented. ???? - which it is not! I can smell the difference between my detergent and theirs. It's just annoying when instead of showing a little costumer service and admitting the mistake fix the problem rather they prefer to pretend they used my detergent when the bottle I gave them is still full. The mom is usually willing to just correct the issues and rewash. It wouldn't be so irritating if it didn't happen so frequently - it's such a headache. I'm already buying my own detergent the only thing you have to do is use it. One time my laundry has also come back with dirty finger prints - it looked like someone used my laundry as a napkin after it was washed and dried. I was trying to be gracious about it, but they just thought it wasn't their problem by pretending the stains were there before I dropped it off. Realistically, dried on crusty fingerprints would have washed off if that was true - not even possible. I see them load the laundry into cars and drive off to somewhere all the time - and I see them drop the occasional piece so I was not surprised to find street dirt and other black stains on my white sheets and clothes. Obviously they did not care about this either. So now I use them when I'm in a bind and only drop off thinks like towels, sheets and yoga clothes. Never anything good they can ruin. I now bring my stuff to Royal Cleaners on 4th Ave and 10th Street- who are simply awesome. Their dry cleaning service is mediocre at best - I would waste my money on poorly pressed clothes and their alteration service doesn't even come close to royal cleaners - so why bother. read more

I tried on a dress next door at Cadillac Consignment (great place) that I really loved, but somehow the XS managed to be kind of baggy. I asked about alterations, and they took me over to Sew Good. And it was! They took it in on both sides and also did some fixing in the bust area. Now it fits perfectly. They had to move a zipper which automatically ups the price range, but I thought it was very reasonable. I will definitely come back here for alterations. read more

I took a bridesmaids dress here to be taken in. The seams and the zipper was on the side of the dress, so I was told that I would be charged extra for the extra work of taking the dress in from both sides and taking out/putting back in the zipper. I said ok. Well, when I came and picked up the dress, the fit was horrendous. Way too tight. Then I realized that the tailor literally took out more than an inch more fabric from one side than the other. There is a bow in the back, and it was a full 1.5" closer to one seam than the other seam. I tried to explain this to the lady at the desk, and she kept trying to convince me it was in the middle. She even went so far as to sloppily pull out a ruler and show me, but it was obvious she was trying to manipulate where she started measuring to make it seem like it was in the middle. Finally, she said she would call the tailor to redo it. After I got it back, it was still completely off-center and too tight... I am not even 100% certain they did anything. I was maid of honor at my friend's wedding and felt self-conscious about the dress the entire day. I really suggest avoiding this place!! read more
