I was tagged by the city of San Francisco to have 13 squares fixed. I ended up having 38 done. Since Gonzalez concrete was coming out, I decided to have preventative work done... They gave me an accurate estimate. They pulled the permits and did the work. The company was responsive, on time, and did what they promised. In fact, they did a little bit more than they promised. Work was done in two days. They actually came out on a third day to finish shaving some cement edges down that were tripping hazards. They worked on the area's I requested. Plus they shave down two areas that I had not requested. Work that needed to be done but that I did not notice. Definitely a plus in my books. I worked with Daniel Gonzalez in the field and Jasmine in the office. Very pleasant people to work with. I highly recommend this company. If I had more concrete work to do I would ask them again. read more

A small area of my concrete driveway needed to be repaired due to cracks and unevenness. The initial communication was rapid and an appointment was made for an estimate; however, SF Gonzalez Concrete did not show up and no phone call was received regarding cancellation. After contacting them, they apologized and another appointment was set up. During the appointment, SF Gonzalez Concrete said they would give two estimates for each of the two options discussed. A week later, I received an email stating the minimum cost for the job. That's all the information I received. I clarified that two estimates were agreed upon for the two options. Not hearing from them for over a week, I contacted them. They said that they could not send out anyone for another estimate, and the estimate already was sent. I was not expecting nor did I ask that they send someone out again. When I asked about the estimate that was given, I received an email that copied the earlier email stating the minimum amount for the job. I didn't realize that qualified as an estimate. It's only a feeling, but I think that they really weren't interested because my job was small. I certainly would have appreciated it if they had said so in the beginning since that would have saved me from several weeks of delay. read more

The ladies in the office Veronica and Jasmine are professional set up the appointment and answered all my questions. They sent out Daniel, he was right on time. I told him what I need to be done. And Daniel made suggestions. Which was very helpful. After a few days I set up appointment for work to be done. This company is one of the most unprofessional operations I have ever come across. The issue that I have with them is unrelated to their quality of work, but rather their blatant disregard for permit guidelines around the use of a porta potty at a construction site in Noe Valley. In order to complete the work they moved the porta potty on the street just off the sidewalk at the neighboring house. The porta potty was placed directly in front of the back bumper of our brand new car. After driving off to run a few errands, we noticed a chipped rear bumper in front of the porta potty door. It was obvious that someone had opened the door upon use of the porta potty and hit our rear bumper causing the damage. When we confronted the foreman, they of course denied causing any damage to our brand new vehicle. After further investigation with the city, we were able to determine that Gonzalez Concrete had neglected to place proper signage around the porta potty after moving it away from their construction site. Then there was the obvious damage to our vehicle when they used our back bumper as a door stop for the porta potty door. We attempted to report the incident through the city, but we all know how that goes. read more

This company gets pretty bimodal reviews, and I'm in the low end. Had Mr. Gonzales out to check the site for a fairly simple project - a little foundation and sidewalk-adjacent work. He agreed to bid on the work, and promised an estimate early the next week. Four weeks, several phone calls and several more emails later they finally conceded that they wouldn't be bidding on the project -- and that was after I offered them the graceful exit of declining to bid if they didn't feel the job was a fit for them. Quality of the work, if you get it done, may be excellent. I wouldn't know, since they couldn't marshall the professionalism to manage the bidding or customer communications process properly, so the job went to someone else. I won't advise you against having Gonzales bid on your job, but they certainly shouldn't be the only one you bring in, nor would I advise waiting for them once you have another acceptable bid in hand. read more

My sidewalk got tagged for repair by the city, and my wife and I decided to bite the bullet and replace the entire sidewalk, including the driveway and small retaining walls. We got what I thought was a reasonable estimate from Gonzales Concrete, and since they do a lot of work around town I was comfortable giving them the job. In short, they did a fabulous job. Yeah, its only concrete, but have you noticed how many bad concrete sidewalk repairs there are around town? All the lines in my concrete are perfectly straight, the light broom finish is uniform, cleanup every day, placement of barricades, etc. All very professional. Mailo in their front office was really good at communicating what was happening. On the day of the pour, the owner showed up to direct the work and make sure everything was perfect. I can't imagine anyone who has had work done by Gonzalez Concrete giving them anything but 5 stars. I'd give them 6 if I could. Due to some nasty invasive street trees, and being tagged by the city, I had to replace my entire sidewalk. It was no small job -- about 80 feet in length by about 10 feet wide, with lots of difficult angles and access issues. Gonzalez was not the low bid, he was in the middle. But from the very first impression I knew I would select him. His attention to detail is extraordinary, and he inspired great confidence. We ran into a number of delays due to weather, work to be performed by other contractors, etc. When it finally came time to do the job, he did it quickly and professionally. No messing around with these guys, and the job turned out absolutely perfect. Cleanup was outstanding, too. And special mention should be made about the prompt, friendly, and courteous manner everyone in the company demonstrated, from Darlene in the front office, to Mr. Gonzalez, and to his sons who work with him as well as the rest of the crew. I needed an extremely simple bit of concrete work done in my garage/driveway. Gonzalez came via a referral from my neighbor, who warned that they were good but expensive. After connecting with their office manager, we set an window to meet "between 9:30am and 10am" the next day, depending on how long it took Mr. Gonzalez to arrive from his previous appointment. No problem, I thought. At 9:35 I proceed to get a call from the office manager wondering where the heck I was for my 9:30am appointment, because "Mr. Gonzalez is waiting outside." First, we had a window, not a specific time. Second, is Mr. Gonzalez too good to walk up to my front door and knock like a normal person? Setting that aside, when I explained what I was looking for with the project, he rejected me summarily and instead told me that in order to do it right he'd (of course) need to redo my entire driveway -- at a cost of thousands of dollars. It's one thing if a small job like the one I'd requested (which, by the way, I told the office manager about up front, so he shouldn't have been surprised) isn't worth Mr. Gonzalez's company's time given what other larger projects they may have lined up (I have no idea, obviously), but (to use a car analogy) to try and upsell me from the Chevy Sonic I came in the door looking for all the way up to the most expensive damn Corvette they sell, which doesn't meet my needs in any way whatsoever is just insulting. He completely wasted my time -- and I'm sure he'd say the same about me. They apparently do good work but you'll have to get past the oversized ego first. Be warned. read more

Just recently had to deal with Gonzales concrete company. They did work and at finish time their workers proceeded to splash small concrete material on at 3 cars in the near by area while cleaning up their tools and boards. The neighbors are stuck with damaged cars as concrete does not come off any possible way. Their insurance company is not willing to even discuss the problem. read more

Disappointing when you call to request a quote, leave a voice message and never get a response. What happened to customer service??

I wanted to give this company a zero rating but apparently I cannot do that so I am going to give them a one (1) star rating because this company never gave me an estimate to repair my sidewalk. The first time I called, which was Oct. 3, I spoke to a lady named Jasmine and she said her boss would check my sidewalk and once she received the estimate from her boss, which I assume is Mr. Gonzalez, she would e-mail me the estimate to repair the two concrete square blocks - I never heard from them. I called again on Oct. 7 and left a message asking if they have an estimate for me and to please call me back and again I never heard from them. My final call was on Oct. 19 and I spoke to Jasmine again and she said she remembered speaking to me and she apologized saying her boss probably forgot to give her the estimate and she would speak to him and call me back this same day - I never heard from them. So, I am assuming they do not want to give me the estimate and they do not want to do business with me because I think the job is too small for them to bother with it. We orginally contracted this company b/c of the positive yelp reviews. Just to give a little back story, we agreed upon a contract, signed it, and they began work. After our driveway was completely torn up, the owner called back to say he wanted more money and that upon inspection THEY accidently wrote up the bid wrong. Nothing like being held hostage by a contractor. So classic bait and switch. We have no driveway and a contractor demanding more money. What do we do?? Hold him to the contracted price and risk a terrible job? Or pay the extra amount so we can get a decent job done?? After a few heated phones calls with his admin staff and eventually Mr Gonzalez himself and being stuck between a rock and a hard place, we settled on a HIGHER price. The work quality remains to be seen over the next few months but what an aggravating experience to deal with. read more

Reading the previous reviews, it looks like many people have had similar experiences as well. 08/20/2015 - 2pm site visit scheduled - they didn't show up. I called in and they said that they rescheduled it but forgot to give me a call to notify. 8/25/2015 - 1pm - met at the site. Was told that I will be sent a proposal the next morning. 8/31/2015 - called them to remind the proposal. Was told that they will send it by the end of the day. 9/2/2015 - called them to remind the proposal again and was told that they are too busy to provide a proposal. End of story. read more

We LOVED these guys ! Responsible, Speedy, Courteous and GREAT work ! Its hard to find professionals like them in SF and we talked to 5 other contractrors. We requested an estimate for laying concrete in our basement gym area which was all dirt and wood (9x24 - small room) from 4-5 contractors. Some were awful at communicating ( wouldn't return phone calls ). Some of them gave ridiculous estimates (2-3 times higher than Gonzalez). Others said they needed "2 weeks" just to give us an estimate. Fortunado and Darlene were professional. They came within a day of setting up an appointment. Efficient email response. Clear, honest answers to our questions. We are very very happy with the quality of the work and their bedside manners esp compared to the other contractors read more

By chance, Fortunado was driving by my home right after my sidewalk was "tagged" by the city. The work was great, but most impressive was how well the office staff worked with the city and myself - it was so easy. My only complaint was that the site was a little messy when they left, concrete dust all over, but I did leave two cars in the driveway in close proximity to their work and they remained pristine. interesting to read other reviews. Seemed to be either 5 stars or one star and nothing in between. years ago the reviews were 4 and 5's. What is important to me is the final outcome. I had driveway, walkway, and sidewalk replaced along with replacing drain pipe under garage concrete and brick work. Mr Gonzalez's work is artistic, as much as concrete can be. Slopes, crack lines, color, were perfect. He advised me on issues I wasn't aware of, like the need for larger drain pipe under garage. Mr Gonzalez worked the concrete himself, got down and dirty with his team. Cleaned up any splashed matter. There were some delays, but the results were worth it. read more

I recently purchased a building with two seperate garages. The garage floors, now over 80 years old had never been repaved. Gonzalez Concrete was very prompt in giving us an estimate and professional in their follow. The owner, Fortunado was a pleasure to work with and very knowlegable about our requirements. Like most of the other reviewers, I was very impressed with the quality of their work. I hired them because there was a tree root clogged sewer pipe 6' or more under under the 6' long brick walk that led from our doorway to the street and the sewer pipe needed to be dug out to access it; some concrete next to the brick walk needed to be removed in the process. Their first helpful point was to immediately give me an option to replace the concrete wall jutting up several inces on one side of the walk with either brick or concrete -- a perceptive point which might not have occurred to me and, of course, I choose brick. They did a lovely aesthetic job and were equally good about neatness and sidewalk safety during the process. When I realized that it would be helpful to repair a gaping crack on the nearby wall at the last minute while the job was ongoing Mr. Gonzalez was there to look at it in literally a half hour and agreed to do it for a very reasonable $100. And at the end when I noticed a couple of additional small craters in the front concrete wall (not part of the job), the working people graciously filled these in without additional charge. I also found them all, from Mr. Gonzalez to Darlene in the office to the people who did the work, very pleasant and easy to communicate with. I wanted to make it 5 star but haven't only because they didn't warn me about the heavy dust from the earth process, and I'll need to do a bit more scrubbing on my car parked in front to get it off. Overall I originally thought the cost, $4200, was high but now realize that it was all a lot more work than I realized. The plus is that the entrance to the house looks so much better that it probably has added that much to the house value even though my original intention was just fixing the sewer. read more

I have nothing but good things to say about this company. We had a dry winter and the week I am scheduled to have Gonzalez come out and trench 20 feet worth of sidewalk in front of my building it not only rains, but the City decides it wants to repave my street. Mr. Gonzalez took care of everything and got the trench dug while taking care of the foreman from the city so that the other subcontractors were able to perform the work they were scheduled to do. Over the weekend, Mr. Gonzalez came out to make sure the plywood covering the trench was installed correctly by the other subcontractors working on the project. When it wasn't he spent about 45 minutes rearranging it so that pedestrians could walk in a safe manner (and this was over the weekend). When it was time to backfill the trench, the quality of the concrete work was outstanding. For those who don't know, walk down your street and you will see many different ways concrete gets finished, from the brush work to the conforming to existing concrete. Not to mention, my concrete work does not have a mark of grafitti on it unlike the people who did P.G.E. concrete work when they redid the gas lines at my building or the water dept (there stuff got tagged all up). Gonzalez concrete did an outstanding job and I will use again on all my concrete projects. To a lot of people who don't look at the details, laying concrete may just be a simple task that anybody can do. But its like anything else, to do it right it may cost a few extra bucks but the details in the prep and finish work! read more

I got a notice to repair my driveway from the city. I requested quotes from five concrete contractors. Gonzalez was the first, and least expensive, to respond, so I went with them. I have been absolutely delighted with their service. They have responded promptly throughout, took care of all the paperwork (as a caveat - let the city know your progress, because the communication between inspectors there seems suboptimal) and finished as quickly as could be expected and without going over budget. They did an extremely careful job, and cleaned up fastidiously. I have to say, this concrete is really quite stunning - which I don't usually say about concrete unless I get hit on the head with it, which is unlikely to happen with a driveway. Mr Gonzalez was very patient in working through the design details with me, and very thorough in his pricing. They handled the city permit process very smoothy. All of their employees were nice to work with and were very neat and tidy about the surroundings. Today, this [Saturday] morning in Burlingame, CA our community was welcomed by the sound of a Gonzales Concrete work crew jackhammering a sidewalk at 8AM. The crew was working in front of a church located at 1449 Oak Grove Avenue. Naturally, the police were called. The officer arriving at the scene requested the Gonzales Concrete crew to produce a working permit, which they did. Because the permit did not list a start time, the officer asked the Gonzales Concrete crew to stop working, and wait until 9AM to resume. (Burlingame police informed me sometimes work crews can start at 8AM; early on weekends, or even in the middle of the night on any day - if there is an emergency situation.) I do not have any direct experience with the Company's work or work quality, but this recent Saturday morning experience does leave me questioning the judgement, and self-awareness, of the work crew employed by Gonzales Concrete. read more

I used Gonzalez Concrete in response to a Notice to Repair areas of my sidewalk from the City Department of Public works. They were very responsive to a request for a bid and their quote was reasonably priced. Gonzalez was also very cooperative in modifying some of the work. The work was done with high quality and expeditiously. There were accommodating in accelerating the schedule. The workers were also very clean, skilled and paid attention to safety with barriers while the work was being done. The front office, through which the contracting and change orders are handled, is also very efficient and easy to work with. Gonzalez worked very effectively with the City in obtaining Permits and in supporting closing out of the NTR. This resulted is little effort by the owner. I could not be happier with my experience with Gonzalez Concrete! I had ~10 side walk squares marked by the city for replacement. I had 3 concrete companies look at the sidewalk as well as a long walkway along my house. Severally said sloping the walkway along the side of the house was not going to keep water off my foundation, but Gonzalez was able to do it as well as replace the squares (with the permits) for a great price. They were there when they said they would be, did the job in the time quoted and the price was great. They then emailed the inspector with pictures of the completed work. I had an opportunity to meet the owner of the business as well as his son and in addition to doing great work, they are great guys. (my 4 year old son had A LOT of questions) read more

If I could give 10 stars I would. We had a concrete patio area that had cracked and broken, for undiagnosed reasons. After several calls to different contractors and one other bid following a painful site visit we connected with Mr. Gonzales who arrived 10 minutes EARLY, promptly diagnosed the issue, had a bid sent by email within 20 minutes, scheduled the work for three days later, and finished on time without any issues. His team is conscientious and professional. Contractors and other service providers take note: when you communicate clearly, do what you say, and act professionally throughout, your customers will gladly pay a bit more and give you give stars! I have no idea what the poor reviews are about ~ seems that many of the reviewers who trashed the company never actually had work done, which is jank. read more

I am really impressed with Gonzalez Concrete. I contacted them because our sidewalk was badly cracked and I worried that it might cause an accident. I decided to have it fixed before anything bad happened. There was a wait to have work done (as with all contractors these days) but when our time came to have work done it was done beautifully. Unfortunately, our front step broke after cement removal. Fernando immediately took responsibility for the problem and a crew was dispatched to fix the step. And they did a fantastic job with that too. This is a great company to work with. I highly recommend them. read more

We received a notice from the City that several squares of our front sidewalk needed to be replaced. We called Gonzalez for a bid and were immediately impressed by their responsiveness. Fortunato came out the next day and gave a bid equal to the lowest we had received. Best of all, Gonzalez handled all the bureaucracy, getting the CIty permit, providing all necessary barriers and pedestrian safety rails. The work crew was fast and efficient, removing the old sidewalk on day one and finishing all the concrete work on day two, including building up the curb next to the driveway which had been broken down. The crew also did a superb job of cleanup. You would never know that work was done, except for the beautiful new sidewalk left behind. No dust, no debris. When I came home fron a trip to Oregon for Christmas, I had a surprise Christmas present from the city. On my front door was a notice to fix my concrete and redo the curb. My next door neighbor and I decided to have the work done by Gonzales Concrete. They came the next day and gave us a quote. Delores, the secretary, gave me a phone call every day to tell me what to expect. The company handles all the required city's permit work while starting the work in a timely manner. I have been very impressed with every worker I have talked to during this process. Every man has been so friendly and helpful.
